Same reason people hate LoK

It shat all over the ATLAB
>>
>>64661041

is LoK any good?
aside from shitting all over the original
>>
>>64660894
because it wasn't a carbon copy of the cartoon
>>
>>64661080
Not really. Korra is unlikable as fuck, the characters aren't as strong, likable or developed and the fact that they had to shoehorn in characters from ATLAB not only makes you realize how weak the whole thing is comparison, but also how much you'd preffer to watch that instead.
>>
>>64661080
There are a few likeable characters, but season 3 is the only one that kinda stands nearly as high as the original.
>>
>>64660894
Because it was badly made and had shitty acting.
I know people like to shitpost about terrible movies being good, but this one is pretty much unjusifiable

>>64661080

nope
It's the worst case of wasted potential I've ever seen. There are interesting concepts and ideas that all lead to absolutely nowhere, characters are crap and the lack of overarching story really hurts the series.

Throw in some completely retarded ideas like pic related and you have a fucking mess that is Korra
>>
>>64661319
I liked the Zaheer parts. He was cool.
Also the animation of his fight was top-tier.
But yeah, other than that the series pretty much consistently stayed disappointing
>>
Because M Night thought you could condense 26 episodes of TV into 2 hours by putting in a season's worth of exposition in it. I'm pretty sure 98% of the dialogue is expository, it reminded me of bad old Speed Racer dubs where every line is just talking about what's happening on-screen.

Also I really like Aasif Mandvi but he should never play a villain in anything ever again. He was the least threatening antagonist I've ever seen outside of Colin Hanks on Dexter, he literally used the exact same vocal stylings as he did on the Daily Show and I couldn't stop laughing.
>>
>>64661080

only good thing that came out of Korra is the porn
>>
>>64661651

that's a bit spoilerish
>>
>>64661896
Alright, I deleted it.
Got the impression here that no one really cares about korra, though
>>
This is what the Star Wars prequel loving meme has brought us to.

This film is a steaming pile of dog shit, and that's an insult to steaming piles of dog shit.

It is objectively terrible and everyone hated it for good reason. If you actually genuinely think this is a good film you should seriously consider ending your life.
>>
>>64661080
Some of the animation is pretty good, the villains are all pretty good too, with actual depth and motives behind their actions. It deals with a lot of more serious adult/political issues for a show that aired on Nickelodeon.

Also the soundtrack is TOP TIER. Plus if you liked ATLA a lot (which you should if you aren't a pleb) then there are lots of nice throwbacks and references to the show, although it can get a bit much if you really hate fan service.
>>
>>64660894
>let's make the Fire Nation based on Imperial Japan and that all look Japanese in the show into Indians so I can cast all my Indian buddies in the film

Shamylan basically misunderstood everything that made ATLA a great show, it was way too serious, and he changed so many small things for no reason that the whole thing was just unrecognisable, like firebenders needing fire to be present before they can start bending (???)

Korra is great. /co/ only hates it because they are butthurt nitpicking fanboys.
>>
>>64660894
Sokka is no longer funny and is instead emo. No one picks up the slack.

Bending is now complete garbage. Earthbenders are kept prisoner on land instead of at sea. 10 of them dance for a minute and only manage to throw a single fist sized bolder.
>>
>>64661041
not really, even people who havent seen the series think this is a remarkably bad film

Because it is.

It has the worst action-scenes in mainstream cinema history.
>>
>>64660894

>Shitty acting all over the place
>Bad bending effects make character appear much weaker than they are supposed to be
>All the characters appear as empty shells of themselves and miss all the character traits that made us love them in the first place
>A terrible script results in terrible pacing
>Changes that don't make sense, like earthbender prison on earth
>The epic climax from the first season is instead a huge anti climax

And much more. Simply put, it's one of the worst adaptations ever made, and it also fails miserably as a standalone movie.

Music and background visuals are the only good things about this movie, which is why I give it a 2/10 instead of 1/10.
>>

Enough said.
>>
>>64660894

>>
>>64660894
It's a bad film. I've never seen the show and I thought it was a bad film.
>>64661085
No. What >>64661232 >>64664503 said.
>>
>>64660894
Because it fucked up everything. There isn't anything aside from some of the visuals that went right. I'm not even an SJW but it's god damn jarring to see white people play eskimos, indians playing imperial japanese, so on. It's jarring because there's so little logic (People who draw their powers from "earth" are imprisoned in a place full of earth, they haven't escaped because nobody apparently thought they could win.), the characters are the main reason I watched it and their personalities were screwed up, most of the dialogue is exposition, so much is skipped because they didn't have time to explain it so it becomes even more inconsistent.
>>
>>64661080
It's absolute shit tier if you compare it to the original. If you don't care about the original, then it's "acceptable if you're into the setting"-tier.
Main characters from the first one were completely ruined and misinterpreted in various aspects, including using them in shit like "Lol, you remember this, right? It's an in-joke, you see!". In every way, they were made worse. They gained character flaws that while not impossible, were there for no purpose: Toph became a slut who couldn't hold a family together, Aang was a bad father for some reason because he wanted an airbender kid regardless of the fact that he made far more selfless decisions for complete strangers in the original, Sokka didn't mature almost at all, and all of the characters became diluted and misrepresented. Their powerlevels dropped pretty badly too. (Compare Toph to Iroh, who was at his prime in that age.) Zuko was represented well enough, but he was used in one of the "in-jokes".

The original was all about adventure and exploring the world, and would've quickly become boring if they didn't do that. To counter this, they invent a steampunk city with some almost cyberpunk-ish elements in terms of atmosphere, mystery and corruption which would've worked had they cared to actually explore it. It also had an overarching plot and arcs for each of the characters which happened simultaneously, like a song with many different instruments, each playing all the time but some gaining priorities and "solo"s when their turn came. All of these arcs worked in harmony, being essential to oneanother. In Korra, they ruin it once again by having the plot change direction at least once, if not more times, per season.
>>
>>64661080
It starts weak but the last two seasons are pretty good.

First let me say, personally, the ATLA cartoon is one of my favorite fantasy stories. I'd put it way above Harry Potter and close to LOTR. The show had great pacing, amazingly developed characters, smart writing, and a great mythology to it.

The movie sucked because Shymalan is pretty much a hack. He wanted this to be his LOTR, but where Peter Jackson was a huge fan of the book, Shymalan seemed to have only watched a few episodes before jumping on.

He changed things that didn't make sense the pronunciations of characters names and the fact that firebenders needed fire around them to bend it. He took all the humor and development from the characters. He took the bending styles which on the show were beautiful and powerful and turned it into 6 earth benders doing a dance in unison to throw a single fucking rock.

Adapting something is tricky. Yes, you should try to make it your own, but you also need to respect the source material. Understand it. Figure out why people like it so much.

>>
they neutered the shows race war/ethnic cleansing stuff and made every one white but 1 character

also they couldnt call it avatar despite the fact the show is called that because some fagget made a movie about over grown smurfs living in furn gully fighting the us military over a substance used in the movie the core
>>
>>64660894
It wasn't that it was just a horrible adaptation of a pretty good cartoon.
It was a shitty movie in general even if you've never seen the show its based on.
The CGI was shit same as the 3D effects, Benders having to do a whole dance routine before the attack launches, Firebenders needing fire to bend before hand removes any threat as fire is like the least naturally occurring element as compared to the other three, etc.
>>
>>64666099
This, I don't understand what it is but she's the best. It's probably the muscles and the dark skin but with white features/blue eyes. It's a god tier combo.
>>
>>64666288
>made every one white but 1 character

You forget when they made the whole fire nation was Indian instead of Japanese?

The Earth kingdom were actually Chinese in the film too.
>>
>>64666288
>made every one white but 1 character
What I always found strange about that... he changed the race of everybody, but then changed the pronunciations claiming "that's how the cultures they're based on would pronounce it". Why would he care? He already shat on the cultures they're based on.
>>
>>64660894

Because not only was it pure unfiltered garbage in every way, but it also effectively ruined any other chance of adapting ATLA into live action for years to come.

Even people who haven't seen the movie (or even the show) know how garbage it is purely by word of mouth, and it's put a dent into the name of one of the greatest cartoon series ever made. And that's a travesty.

(Cont.) Each of the characters is more or less a copy of one of the members of the original team.
>Mako is Zuko, except with less character motivation. Probably the best and the subtlest character, but there's no explanation apart from lol friendship as to why he joined the Avatar, just like the rest of the group.
>Bolin is Sokka, except less funny because his humour is far more forced and the show is not even slightly aware of this. Adds practically nothing to the team, while Sokka on the other hand did.
>Korra is Toph, except more irritating because she's portrayed as a hero while still being an arrogant shit who gets beat up all the time, whereas Toph got beat up rarely and when she did, she was portrayed as the loser of that situation as she should've been. She is just like an SJW who gets herself beat up and plays the heroic victim.
>Asami is Katara, except more calm. No real personality apart from this.

They had a formula for each season. Not a good one that you usually see which creates the arc feeling with variations when needed and which is executed so well you don't even notice it, I mean a clear formula that goes like this:
>Aftermath of the previous season, Korra is trying to learn something, everything else is normal
>New enemy is found. Obligatory subplot happens some time after.
>This repeats for a while: Korra tries and fails to prevent the enemy's plans, but fails with increasingly bad results
>As if things werent "tense" enough, tables turn for the worse
>Korra loses completely, world is doomed, all hope is lost
>Korra wins because of increasingly stupid reasons.
>>
>>64667449
(Cont.) They also wasted a ton of plot threads on nothing
>Equalists
>Old Team Avatar
>Red Lotus
>Earth Kingdom Instabilities
>Spirit World & Valley of the Lost
>Convergence
>First Avatar
>Republic City corruption
>Air Nomads coming back to the world

All this complete by the amount of how much they relied on Tumblr's support and pandered to them from the beginning (female protag, romance drama overload, Mako being essentially Edward), eventually culminating in an out of nowhere romance between Korra & Asami which wasn't even done openly, and they had to hide it on screen and mention it in twitter to make sure that conservative fans "wouldn't notice" and tumblr would: the optimal ratio of pandering and low-risk.
>>
>>64660894
It's hollow as fuck. I actually liked M. Night for his first few breakout pieces, but he can't into no-twist action movies.

It mostly relied on decent effects and had no character development outside of the pitiful development of Korra and Ang really.

I didn't see much of the cartoon, mostly what I saw my siblings watching in passing, but it was definitely done an injustice with the movie. It's like 2 hours of watching people who can't act and know karate do karate shit with CGI filled in.

The chick who played Korra is hot as fuck, though.
>>
>>64661391
>it reminded me of bad old Speed Racer dubs where every line is just talking about what's happening on-screen.
Holy shit, this.

They had 2 hours, and hardly utilized dialogue at all. It was like a phone conversation with my ex.
>>
I know I am biased as a big fan of the series but this is probably the worst movie I have ever seen.
Ever.
>>
>>64661080
Not particularly. Strong concept, poor execution by the the creators of the original show, but without the aid of some of the other talented people who worked on the original show. Kind of reminded me of the Star Wars prequels.

Loved it.

Drink every time:
>Aasif Mandvi mentions a scroll
>the camera is zoomed in close enough to see up actors' nostrils
>words are mispronounced
>a scene has narration
>an action scene slows down and speeds up
>someone finishes their bending
>both cameos appear on screen (M. Night and penis hair)

Fans of the cartoon hate it because it didn't include every single bit of pointless filler from the show.

Normal people hate it because it's a terrible fucking movie with awful pacing, horrible actors, and a completely directionless story.
