Lol why is this allowed I know it's science fiction but damn.
>>64617596
They don't spin, they're inlet guide vanes
>>64617596
>turbines
>on spaceships
bruh
1. It looks cool
2. Its an original Mcquarrie design
3. Its fantasy
>>64617596
They arent normal turbines, since jet mechanics dont work in space and we dont even know how X Wings work.
Why dont they give BB-8 a proper seat inside the cab?
>>64617747
cultural racism against droids. BB-8 will become the Rosa Parks of his day and in ep IX Finn will become Darth Malcom
>>64617596
>Advanced split wing design

LMAO WHAT???? ITS FANTASY HOLY SHIT
>>64617789
>insulated flight helmet

Who is responsible for this shit
Why even have engines if your whole galaxy works on magic?
>>64617818
No, its a movie
>>64617841
A flick at best
>>64617818
enjoying content that goes pants on head retarded
>>64617828
Why wouldn't you want your helmet to keep your head warm?
>>64617596
u r dense
>>64617596
Those were how the X-Wings were when Ralph McQuarrie drew them.
>>64617859
My head naturally runs really hot so it wouldn't be too good
I prefer to wear masks, personally

Seriously nigger?

>tfw no Nien Nunb spin off movie
>>64617911
You should join the empire.
>>64617715
they fly in atmosphere too you imbecile
>turbines in space
>foils in attack position does nothing except increase the surface area of the ship and make it easier to hit
>>64617928
>implying I'd even consider joining rebel scum
>>64617972
So does the fucking space shuttle but shit ain't got turbines on it you buffoon.

Why is it Halloween colors???

>Doesn't understand the concept of multi-role fighters
>>64618082
>multi-role fighters
>weighed down by torpedos, a warp drive, and an astromech droid
>still outperforms TIE fighters in atmosphere
Fucking Jew Jew.
>>64618120
>implying it's not a trade-off between maneuverability and superior firepower.
X-Wings always had an edge over TIEs in every area bar maneuverability. TIE/sf (the Finn and Poe break out with) are obviously an attempt to counter X-Wings. Regular TIEs were designed to be mass produced and overwhelm opponents.
>>64618181
Good thing the rebellionsistance completely forgot about B-wings and A-wings then
>>64617596
>turbines
>in space
>ayyyy
>>64617716
it doesn't look cool once you notice it
>>64618204
They literally couldn't afford them. Remember, the big guns are all owned by the Republic. Hell, they probably have E-wings and Mon Cal Cruisers up the ass at this point
>>64618254
Only if you're autistic.
>>64618273
Weren't they all wiped out in that retarded Hosnian prime segment
>>64618299
Looked like a large fleet was destroyed in that attack. I doubt the Republic would put all their forces in one spot though.
>>64617596
It's fantasy, not sci-fi
>Americunt education
>>64618314
Sci- Fake fantasy for the mundanes.
>>64618314
It's Space Opera, if we're being pedantic fags.
>Giant weapons of mass destruction that would likely drain several planets to construct
>have a problem with the spacefighters that wouldn't even exist in reality because physics
Alright.
>>64618351
What is space opera? I see the space but there's no opera? Or do you mean the bubble show Sheev is at in Revenge of the Sith?
>>64618294
It's as cool as having fake vents on a car.
>>64618393
Well one of those actually exists...
>>64618372
>Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare and melodramatic adventure. The term has no relation to music but is instead a play on the term "horse opera", which was coined during the heyday of silent movies to indicate clichéd and formulaic western movies.
>>64618393
Maybe if you're a nigger
Because star wars is for children
>>64618399
Camaro's have stock hoods like that. Especially in the late 80's early 90's.
>>64617871
That doesn't make it any less stupid
>>64617596
that X wing got BLACKED too i see
hmmm
JJ really pushed his agenda quite far
>>64618402
>replying seriously to shitpostingThank you helpful anon
>>64618393
depends on the type of engine fag.
i like the design actually. people who don't are probably autistic
>>64618432
Yes, I was referring to the Camaro not existing.
Not the the X-Wing.
>>64618482
Actually it's people who do that are autistic

why would a space ship need air intakes? to suck in more space?

That was a low blow Anon.
It is every science fiction movie I watched in the last 35 years.
>>64618539
That would be ideal, but unfortunately no hard science fiction movies exist.
>>64618181
Only regular ties, Interceptors and X-wings are much more evenly matched, sometimes usually in interceptors favor.
Good thing FO totally forgot about those and went back to regular tie fighters, with a few special forces ties having a backseat gunner though!
A-wing = Y-wing > X-wing > B-wing
debate me
>>64617924
it's a legit tactic. the pilot performing the maneuver throttles back and tails behind the others in the flight group. this assures he is the first one shot while the others carry out the mission.
>>64620759
Y-Wings are outdated shit, the other three excel at their individual roles.
E-Wing and K-Wing are better still.
>>64620352
I love that slightly rounded, soft edges look of the late '70s-early '80s
>>64620699
2001, for starters
>>64620733
No shit.
These are still canon apparently.
>>64619001
Both of the major scenes depicting these particular ships in TFA take place in atmosphere.
>>64621301
>turning Jupiter into a star
I know it's from 2010, but burn.
Why does tech design in Star Wars go from sleek to boxy and jagged to sleek again? They should have made everything in the prequels look like a big clunky version of the OT tech, comparable to computers now vs. how computers were in the 90s. Guess it does kind of make sense with the Republic becoming the Empire.
>>64619001
To collect interstellar hydrogen and other gasses if necessary, like a Bussard Ramjet.
>>64621334
So if three vanes are better, does that make four the best?
>>64621301
You have no idea what you're talking about.
>>64620352
> MUH QUARRIE
>>64621372
It's like in Star Trek where everything looked way cooler than in TOS. You may not understand what I'm talking about, then, think of the modern "simple" computer interfaces. The Metro lookalikes.

> each "genre" is like a box
> every film must be filed in a single box, with a label on it
Or, maybe, genres don't exist. And what you're thinking of are more like themes, and a film may contain many themes.
>>64621301
Dude, not him, but no. The nig monoliths are space fantasy-tier. Besides, everyone knows (even back then) that animals use tools all the time. That doesn't make humans specials. Even fucking birds use branches that they "sculpt" to get larva and shit.
>>64620699
Primer
>>64621301
No
>>64617596
It's not a jet. It has no turbines. They're ion engines, and those are the intakes.
>>64619001
ion = ionized particles = physical matter that's been ionized. The front of the engines colelcts what matter it can in atmospheres and uses it for propusion both in atmospheres and in space
The part you should be criticizing is the way it has no thrusters for steering, and how it maneuvers in space like a fighter plane does within atmosphere, which is impossible.
Ships never made sense.
Like the cockpit in the Milienium Falcon. Where the fuck am I suppose to see anything?
>>64621584
How does Primer's time machine work?
>>64617811
You don't have any friends.
>>64621780
I thought we were friends, Anon...
>>64618120
>still outperforms TIE fighters in atmosphere
the fins on the side of the TIE would act like giant spoilers limiting your turning ability
>>64621742
It doesn't, if it did it would be a real time machine.
hard science fiction is still fiction, not a manual on how to build a space ship.
