Thoughts on Peep Show? After 12 years it's finally over. I thought the series finale was a bit weak but overall the season was miles above series 8. Doing a rewatch it's pretty sad to see the guys age over time. Ironically Super Hans seemed the least affected by father time. Aside from Mark, which character did you most relate to?
Pretty grim link. Jeremy gets wrecked.
David Mitchell turned into Christopher Hitchens while Robert Webb turned into a friar from the middle ages.
Best side character imo. If I had to relate to any character I see myself a male version of Dobby except a virgin. You might say I'm Mark then, but other than his failures with women I'm not nearly as uptight and anal as he was. As the show went on he definitely became a less sympathetic character.
Apparently they had planned to have the internal monologues of other characters beside Mark and Jez. Can you imagine being inside Johnson or Super Han's head?
Seeing Jeremy age from season 1 to 9 is just awful. He looked so young...
Characterwise I related most to Sophie. Brought up in a sheltered life. Slowly get exposed to hedonistic things and take it a little too far.
Why was Dobby so perfect guys?
>you'll never tour around Europe with Dobby being quirky and having new experiences
Mark really pissed me off in season 8 for not wanting to go on adventures with Dobby. Yet then in season 9 he's doing lines of coke with April and throwing his ipad out the window.
The finale really suited the show, what with
Mark and Jeremy never actually learning anything and being stuck together in their dysfunctional relationship - except now they're rapidly aging to boot
And probably Gerard, except for the unnamed chronic illness
If you didn't count the sex stuff I could say I fit Jeremy's profile. Manipulative, lazy, drug using, emotional, hedonist. Not as self confident or unintelligent though, But again, aside from the sex life I act like him more than Mark. Mark and I only really share anxiety and a love for history.
Gerald lost his virginity at 26. I'm currently a 26 year old virgin. Didn't really get to see enough of the character to make a good comparison to him. He's way to much of a pushover. In my friend group I'm more like Super Hans.
Wow, that's hilarious. Kind of makes sense though, it'd be strange if it was any longer. Only took 6 months for Dobby to go full insufferable NYC hipster complete with hipster boyfriend too.
I must say they did a good job of hiding his hair then because I didn't notice it was that bad. Of course he was balding already in the earlier seasons anyway.
Would have been nice if they unofficially adopted Mark's son Ian like a "gay couple" because of how much of a drunk Sophie was. By the end of the show she looked like a granny. She was the ugliest looking girl in the show by far. Never understood why Jeff was interested in her.
Poor Dobby and her "blossoming" by becoming a New York hipster. Still fucking adorable though. You could Jeremy balding in the front but they hid the top/back really well.>>64572398
Never realized it was that bad.
Interesting. Aside from a few sketches I really didn't care for Mitchell and Webb Look. So tired of seeing the "are we the baddies" skit getting posted everywhere. This was my favorite by far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwXjm64a3QE
These two are my favourite.
Reminds me of hilariously aggressive fights about literally nothing my friends have at the pub sometimes.
I always thought Sophie was nasty from ep1. Her face was so unappealing. Toni was much better in season 1. I preferred April or Dobby to Big Suze, Nancy or any of the "hot" girls of the show. April in particular was GOAT.
They definitely should of made it more dramatic. Not necessarily go the Seinfeld route with them going to prison... but something. The dinner party in S9 had me laughing hard though. Using all that lettuce in the food and drink. Felt bad for Angus.
Hans/Hands whatever. Never understood why they called him in that first place. Like "nice to meet you my names Super Hans". Was always funny when they invited to formal events like family dinners and weddings. By the end of the show his life was the least fucked up.
I think they shouldn't have made it more dramatic but should have brought the show back to reality hard. Like show them getting in huge shit for kidnapping the professor and how they're both lonely manchildren with no friends or job prospects at that point but then life goes on anyway.
Instead the final scheme just worked like every other in the series, no sense of consequence which it needed
I liked when Jez lost his boner mid act with her realizing how similar she was to Mark. His inner dialogs were the best. Always "is this a good idea? yeah I should definitely not be doing this".
Well I assume Angus would go to the cops over getting kidnapped. He was a big guy, not sure how he got taken by a skeleton like Hans. But the finale did show that they were both lonely manchildren with no friends or job prospects. Went all meta with them looking at the TV as a reflection. All and all beside Mark having a kid nothing changed in their lives beside getting older. I wish they had more scenes with that angry carpenter Andy. Loved that part where he threatens to drink a cheap can of paint if Jeremy doesn't beat the shit outta him.
With Mark and April banging in the bathroom like that, I was expecting her to get pregnant. Maybe she did and ended up cucking Angus. Speaking of which I wonder if he was a fill in for Peter Capaldi who played Mark and Aprils history teacher.
Yeah I got the sense that is what they were going for but I don't think they ever switched tone enough for it to have an impact. They could have finished it with anything but like others have said it felt as if the series was still going to be going on at that point and not in any positive way.
I wonder if Jeremy going gay was always in the cards. Pic related...
What about this goddess? Even when they dressed her up all nerdy she still looked hot. David Mitchell should have married her instead of that Victoria Coren who quickly turned into a hambeast. What I'd do to put my dick in the dobs...
I don't think Rob would be as happy if he knew his hairline was gonna look like >>64572398 soon.
Apparently in real life their real life personalities are the opposite of what they played in Peep Show. So David Mitchell is the impulsive one banging all the girls and being a free spirit while Webb is all uptight and necrotic.
After reading a few of Robert Webb's political columns I can see that. He definitely seems like he a bit of a chip on his shoulder and isn't the happy carefree Jeremy. Then you have David Mitchell laughing it up on all those panel shows. Who knows. I'd love to have a beer with the guys to see how they are.
Yeah that was really out of character for him. Loved how he was always breaking Marks balls. That part where he cucks Mark into buying him condoms so he can bang Sophie... I'll never hear "Jeff?!" without reading it in Mitchell's accent.
Do Brits like this show? Everyone I've talked seems to hate it, especially northerners. It's almost as if Mitchell and Webb did something to insult them personally.
What's the deal with northerners and hating London so much? I talked to my friend from Manchester about visiting it and he acted like I had gone to Iraq. The North/South divide seems bigger over there than it does in America.
Just your standard regional rivalry. London is shit though innit.
I want to talk about the Battle of Stalingrad with David Mitchell. Guy seems intimidating as fuck though. Like one of those snobby wannabe intellectuals. He's starting to look a little like Christopher Hitchen's these days and I bet gets hard as a rock if anyone makes the comparison
Good god his wife looks like vomit. I remember an earlier picture of her and she was pretty good looking too. Guess she said fuck it as soon as they married. Should have stuck his dick in the Dobs...
If >>64572398 is Robs wife then he definitely won in that department. I don't know though, would I trade having a shit wife like that for his hairline.... Can always divorce her and get someone hotter due to my starpower.
To be fair she wasn't the peak of human fitness before hand and she did just have a baby in >>64576954
They both look pretty wrung out desu. I'm against marriage by principal though, and it has nothing to do with the fact that no one wants me.
lel, the wife used to be a free spirit. really nice gal who landed a good husband. Lucky him !
next to this
>Her books include Love 16 and Once More, with Feeling, about her attempt (with co-author Charlie Skelton) to make "the greatest porn film ever". Their jobs reviewing porn films for the Erotic Review led them to believe that most of what they were watching was terrible and that they could make better films themselves.
haha i loved those characters, is this really what like british ghetto kids are like? I also loved how it was implied that those were the little children who bullied him in the pilot
I felt that he was just so hypersexual that eventually he was just as okay with having sex with men as having sex with women. Not as if he ever cared much for societal norm anyway.
>that time he and Super Hans got high and sucked each other
>him thinking that he'd fucked more men than Sophie had
>wanking off that musician
They were laying the bi-ness on a bit thick
Victoria Coren was hot before she got pregnant and fat as a whale.
I loved it, real cult classic. Will be mentioned alongside the likes of Red Dwarf rather than Blackadder and Only Fools though.
(early) Mark's social skills, Jez's work rate master race here.
The ending felt fitting, there was no other way it could/should have ended. Although at times the final season felt more like a "hey remember this guy/girl/situation!" rather than adding anything new.
Holy shit I had no idea
Yeah that was weird when Jeff cried. It was satisfying for Mark, but didn't really make sense. I guess they were trying to show even these alpha males who pretend they don't give a fuck, are human deep down, but I just can't imagine Jeff caring.
Although by the latter seasons he'd essentially turned from a normal bloke, to a beta orbiter of Sophie
>What's the deal with northerners and hating London so much?
Because the rest of the country gets fucked at the expense of London all the time. Once you become qualified, you have to go to that overpriced, overpopulated shitheap unless you're incredibly unlucky and score a big job back home.
I really don't like London, everybody who lives there is rude, it's cramped, the transport is horrible, house prices are unsustainable.
The north has the "old England" feel still that you see in TV shows
>feeling sorry for Robert Webb
The guys a loony.
>Robert Webb: Roll up, roll up, to see a man talking about feminism. What could possibly go wrong?
A man complaining about “anti-male sexism” is the sound of a man crying about lost advantages. Huge, man-made, God-thundering advantages.
The ending was pretty depressing. I thought Mark was actually going to make it with what'sherface and be happy and maybe Jeremy's fuckboy would understand how inferior he felt towards him.
It's much better like this though, they're both a pair of fuck ups and a happy ending doesn't suit them.
Ever since I found Robert Llewellyn's (Kryten from Red Dwarf) blog-style website I try to avoid finding out my favourite actor's political beliefs. Same sort of thing as 'never meet your heroes.'
And if you're worried it wasn't anything bad. He's a very intelligent guy and had a lot of good articles but it was just your standard inevitable upper middle left wing nonsense here and there.
If you're wondering why I'm giving your 'opinion' about as much respect as a puddle of urine then perhaps think about what your opinion consists of.
'It's shit.' Brilliant. You've won me over.
That's great, but calling something shit and leaving it at that isn't very conductive to a discussion. Why do you think the jokes don't connect with you? What shows do you compare it to? I very much doubt you found the show 100% shit so I'm sure there's some good things you could say about it, assuming you've actually watched more than a couple of clips.
If you're content to just leave it at 'it's shit' then that's fine too but, and this is general advice, don't get confused when people are less than civil in response.
well i like david mitchell's performance i think his delivery alone can be quite funny, but most of the jokes dont connect with me beacuse i feel like ive seen it all before and at other times it just wants to be outrageous for outrageous sake, like rob pissing himself in a church (i think it was a church) and with no funny jokes to go with it
>I really don't like London, everybody who lives there is rude, it's cramped, the transport is horrible, house prices are unsustainable.
Go away and wash your coal you dirty northerner
You obviously hadn't read his books. He was a cringing 80's 'new man' even then.
He unironically wrote a book called: 'The Reconstructed Heart: How to Spot the Difference Between a Normal Man and One Who Does the Housework, is Great in Bed and Doesn't Get All Iffy When You Mention Words Like Love and Commitment'
>Literally the only reason the UK is still relevant globally
>Has all the foreign investment. all the biggest companies HQ, houses of parliament, courts, largest city in the country by far
>I hate how it gets so much attention
You are literally retarded
Now that's a fucking opinion. If only more people made the effort here.
Mitchell's delivery alone is what makes it one of my top 10, along with Super Hans but he never has enough screen time.
A lot of the gags are just for 'cringe' value as that's the sort of show it is. Layering absurd event after event until the viewer can't take it anymore, similar to The Office or Inbetweeners.
It definitely isn't for everyone. They're not my favourite style of comedy and some days I have to pause episodes even though I've seen them before.
