And that's what I got. Literal worst fucking casting I've ever seen, mixed with shitty acting, and completely re-writing the story to appeal to brain dead Game of Thrones fans. I honestly hope Terry Brooks tells everyone how shit this really is.
>tfw this and The Magicians adaptation is complete shit.
I was hoping to be cautiously optimistic but I guess this one gets dropped before I even watch one episode.
I know this was going to be based off of the second book but I was already but I should have known this was going all wrong when the promo art featured what looked like
a wrecked antenna tower and the post apocalyptic reveal was one of the best parts of SoS and set it apart from being what was basically a LotR swipe.
It was all a pipe dream that MTV would pull a quality or even passable program out of its ass anyway.
Aside from hearing the name I had no idea what the fuck this was before I watched the first episode just now. It was okay and seems to be high enough budget to have entertaining fights but the modern civilization being a ruined forgotten one is a weird aesthetic or rather its used in a weird way. For some reason trolls are people who wear gas masks.
It honestly seems like a way to get teens who've never read any fantasy literature into fantasy. A bunch of handsome and pretty actors, cool effects and "fashionable" fantasy clothing.
fan of terry brooks calling anyone brain dead...
the fucking series seriously starts the most specialists orphan who was raised with humans sets out on a quest with an old man to find the mcguffian coz hes the chozen one
10 minutes in, visually (I don't know the story) it looks like a weird mixture of cheap Lord of the rings knock-off, Twilight series for the dialogues and Gossip Girl with pointed ears for the characters. Seriously, I started laughing when I saw a NY preppy girl with full make up and sexy dress and pointed ears, they were even joking about boyfriends. It makes Game of Thrones looking like Divine Comedy.
>Books from over 30 years ago
>everyone surprised when a husk of station, formerly known for great music but now known for reality tv shows, totally shits all over the source material to appeal to teenagers
You should have known better.
Having them groomed like modern teens was a poor decision but in terms of the actual acting I thought only the rover girl was that bad.
>rewriting the story to be episodic
>to appeal to game of thrones fans
How does that work?
Looks like GoT has completely fucked any hioe if getting a faithful fantasy adaptation that isn't derivative and formulaic in the next 10 years or so.
The good news is fans of the more popular fantasy series out there (Wheel of Time, Malazan, Thomas Covenant, etc) have a real shot at seeing their favorite stories on screen.
Bad news is it will be a Pyrrhic victory.
This is one of those shows you just watch because theres' not much good on atm.
The pacing at the start of the first book was a bit fast. In just the first episode its' already too fucking fast.
>set it apart from being what was basically a LotR swipe.
it didn't because aside of that everything else is literally lotr with renames. Its the absolute same shit. Even the ending with the army and not-gandalf holding until notfrodo throw not-the-one-ring into not-mordor.
