It's less about their armour, I think, and more what their armour represents.
When people think of any of the armours here, they think less of what the armour looks like, and more about the characters in them. Basically, subconciously, it comes down to which set of troops you like most.

Snow Troopers are objectively the best in terms of combat prowess, but their design is awful.

I like the TFA troopers the best. It takes the classic albeit somewhat clunky design of the OT troopers and modernises it.

Phase II are the most intimidating and spooky looking. They have like this skull look to their helmet designs.

They're a nice mixture of Mandolorian and classic Stormtrooper. I like the visors the best, especially when you see the blast reflections of when they're shooting down the Jedi. My favorite looking ones are the blue platoon of troopers that follow Darth Vader to take down the Jedi Temple.

Commander Cody was pretty great too. He fucked up by giving Obi-Wan back his lightsaber seconds before Order 66 though.


After Phase II, I definitely go with the Original Trilogy Stormtroopers. Can't beat the classics. I love the voices and little moments like in ANH where they're talking about that new speeder while Obi-Wan is behind the corner.

Those are all models so Lucas could get a good visual representation that wasnt a pointing, also so they could be scanned into the computer.

All those model props and miniatures were turned into CGI so they could place the characters in.

I actually quite like the mandible on TFA & more liberal joint-armor (mobility matters) vs. the original costume, looks slightly more "athletic", aesthetic, and functional. And of course they're both 5x better than whatever that thing on the left is. I actually found myself not "seeing" the difference between OT and TFA, in my mind's eye.

I saw episode I in the theater three times, as a kid when I was hopped up on meme-balls. Around the third time (and dad repeatedly insisting how terrible it was), it started to dawn on me...
Then I saw the second one, just once. I've seen it once. This is what I remember as the actual, literal worst film in the series, exactly because I remember so little about it, containing most of the cringe and some more meme-CG battles (was this the one with the guy with all the different arms? I've suppressed all this just a bit). My own boredom with something that is supposed to be exciting me, plus the popular (negative) reaction to the above is where it starts to click in my head that these are awful.
I did see III with some friends in a theater, also just once. Less cringey and more watchable due to violence and everything going to hell (and actually setting up the OT, now), but... still cringey. /tv/ reminds me of the lines on a regular basis. I did like seeing the Obi-Wan/Anakin battle stay true to the folklore prior to the films, however, but it was too-little too-late by this point

I also really personally disliked how boba fett's backstory seemed to me at the time to negate the "bounty hunter" written stories, maybe it really doesn't but I've never seriously sat down and compared their canonicity because the PT is dead to me. I don't care to compare them.

My nigga. I just rewatched the prequel trilogy, thinking that they were better than they actually were. Holy shit was I wrong. TPM is at least laughably bad, and can be enjoyed in the same way a B movie can be enjoyed. The art direction was beautiful but the abuse of CGI completely ruined most of it. AoTC was the worst in the series. I nearly walked out several times, but I was watching the film with my roommates and they insisted I stay. The plot, the characters, the dialogue, again the CGI, was all so bad I could barely stand it. The "romance" between Anakin and Padme is so cringe-worthy I felt sorry for the actors for having to go through the process of filming those scenes. The only saving grace of the film was Christopher Lee's very short appearances, and the soundtrack, which was phenomenal. General Grievous is in the next film, but I'm not surprised that you couldn't remember what was and wasn't in the plot, as it was complete fucking trash. RotS was probably the best of the three for the action alone, and that really was the only redeeming quality in the entire flick. I am so disgusted with the squandered talent and resources Lucas threw away that I don't think I can say anything more about the prequels.
