I saw a short directed by anno that used live action sets and puppetery similar to what will be used in Godzilla which made me hype as fuck.

Its hard to explain but it looks really good in action, better than CGI. Im sure it was some kind of behind the scenes thing where the puppets were roughly the same size as a person.

Im trying to find it now but im sure i was linked it in an eva thread ages ago and youtube is coming up with nothing, as is imdb.

Except CGI is not evolving like the previous anon implied, it's a different technique with different merits. And is usually the easy way out. I don't judge a film by unfinished CGI and I won't judge the puppets by some shitty set pics.

You guys aren't even considering post production. Most cape set pics look like something out of a cosplay convention, the final product usually looks better.

How am I wrong? Hollywood makes Aliens look scary by using paranormal-tier special effects as if they were ghosts or something and even the aliens themselves are unoriginal. last good thing I've seen is Virus, The Fly, The Thing, Alien, and Event Horizon. everything else is just gray, boring, speedy and inane to make you quickly spooked out and just ruins the tension. I don't want a quick thrill.

Pic related was pretty fucked up when I watched it as a kid and it's still unnerving sometimes.
