I would go to /a/ but what a cancerous board.
What animes have you watched and liked guys?
I've been looking into older series and so far Zeta Gundam is a personal favorite. A bit campy in places but if you're watching anime that's to be expected.
Gintama is very funny. I mostly like action-packed stuff directed at young males, Trigun, TTGL, Attack on Titan, stuff like that. Probably after that is quasi-serious, quasi-humor like Eve no Jikan, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, etc.
/a/ is not cancerous
the problem is that you're an insecure coward
He just knows anyone who posts pleb note will get torn a new once since it is the most entry level show there is, he probably tried to post this exact thread there and the replies made him feel sad inside.
Monster is god tier.
Munch munch. Chomp chomp. Gobble gobble. Gulp
I cant believe they showed the whole thing on Syfy. Its funny how Syfy is one of the few western channels that shows quality anime.
Anyways, another great one is Gantz. Brutal, funny, disturbing, emotional, real, moving. I watched all 26 episodes in a night. Also you must watch
the english dub
I watched the first episode of this and fucking despised everything about it. The annoying pretentious faggot of a main character who thinks he can outsmart a semi-omnipotent being because he has "high test scores" and the demon was almost as much of a generic japshit edge lord. To be honest the only Jap shows I have enjoyed are the ones I used to watch for dumb action packed fights
Because it's entry level fedoracore trash like almost everything that will be posted about in this thread.
>Misunderstood genius discovers a supernatural relic and uses it to cleanse the world of evil.
This show much be huge with fedoras.
The Dark Knight is complete plebeian trash friendo
"The Dark Knight Rises is at once both a quiet commentary on urban decay and Modern Blackness - Christian Bale hides under a negroid cowl (a witty metaphor for Hollywood's addiction to emasculated "white-faced" African-American actors) and pontificates like an early Poitier or Murphy. Bane (Hardy) is unintimdating as a picaresque villain, his quasi-labial mask reminiscent of older, better baddies (Salo, Dude Where's my Car). One can only imagine what a more talented actor could have done with the source material - Tyler Perry perhaps.
In short, The Dark Knight Rises fails to live up to its post-Marxist ideal, and is still not as good as the seminal Transformers at analysing our plastic culture's need for inter-textual resonance."
Legend of the Galactic Heroes is pretty much the peak of what you could expect from an anime series.
I like the manga of Berserk, Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball and Death Note a lot too.
No. But if you werent retarded, you would know that part of the appeal of anime is that they are ridiculous and over dramatic. Complaining about that is like complaining anime isnt live action
>the peak of what you could expect from an anime series.
>I would go to /a/ but what a cancerous board.
this meme is getting old and outdated. they love the same pleb garbage most of you /v/ babbies love and have unironic threads about them now too.
i mean they even fucking have naruto threads now which are protected by mods
Wow, /tv/ used to have some of the best anime conversations ever. This place has apparently become even shittier, which is quite an accomplishment.
[x] every third word is someone using fedora as an insult in place of thought
[x] no one posts what they like, just criticizes one popular thing they probably haven't even seen
[x] fags announcing that nothing in anime is worth watching because they've already seen the 2 good shows
[x] half of the basketball-americans just shit-posting about /a/ because /a/ actually takes out the trash, unlike /tv/
What a dirty shithole /tv/ has become. I know, I know, it always sucked dick since day 1, but it's surprising that it really keeps getting worse.
on /a/ everyone is an edgy retard and they're all trying to outdo each other to see who can be the biggest dick
on /tv/ everyone knows we're all pathetic and we all love each other. that's what makes /tv/ special and /a/ shit.
Where did I insult anyone? And yes it does help. Telling people to fuck off when they say shit like "I just watched Death Note, any more like this" it forces people to find their won shows that THEY want to watch so THEY can develop their OWN tastes, unlike here where you have countless amount of rec threads that just turn to shit because everyone has arguments about who should watch what and what he shouldn't watch, when in fact it is up the the person to find what they want to watch. That is why /a/ is easily the best board on this site, they refuse to spoonfeed and mods banned people for asking for recommendations. Asking for and giving recommendations helps no one and all it does it create drones.
I pretty much recommend either this or the original Mobile Suit Gundam if you want to get into the basis of the genre. Zeta arguably better and can be watched without having seen any other Gundam. The animation is pretty good for it's time, memorable characters, and decent drama. If you can get past the age then it's a rewarding watch. Of course, there are other ways to get into the mecha genre, it doesn't have to be through Gundam.
this is something you could only come up with if you just started browsing this board in the last month, but even then you'd be able to pick up on /tv/s act by then
i believe you actually only just started posting here this week or last
I hate mecha animes. But Evangelion was GOAT because mech aspect of it was at minimum and it was more of a psychological and surreal series.
Gurren Lagan was really good too because again there wasn't too much emphasis on "muhh robots", and more of a fast paced action ride, was lots of fun.
/a/ made fun of the Wire, Sopranos, True Detective, etc. calling it all trash but watches the weekly moeblob machine, nuff said. They have the lowest IQs of any board on 4chan, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the posters there are non-white.
I saw a anime years ago on the Sci-Fi channel about a mother and son trying to get robotic body parts, but they couldn't because they were poor. It was a movie, not a series. Does anyone know what the name of it is?
you can watch all gundams, stand alone. Personally I recommend Gundam Seed. Its my favourite, though it isnt the most popular. Its fantastic scifi and the story can be really emotional. I found myself learning all the names of the weapons, operation modes, ranks, etc. Those aspects are very fleshed out.
The only reason to watch anime is to enjoy cute girls. If you want to watch it for some edgy grimdark plot, you can go back to tumblr and circlejerk over Dr. Who or whatever the fuck.
>pebbiest most entry level anime aimed at a Western audience
>it's much better than I expected!
Don't try to shame off your pleb tastes with "I didn't expect it to be good"". You just admitted you like the plebbiest most entry level teenage schlock. Degenerate
So seeing a show like death note and liking it, isnt developing their own taste? People are only allowed to like the obscure shit you're in to?
If you dont want to recommend good anime, just say so. But dont use the excuse that it is because people liked something that is too popular.
You really are autistic. You should go back to /a/.
/a/ is the most arrogant board on 4chan. They thumb their nose at anyone who watches fewer than three hours of anime a day. There's also the constant threads for a 20 year old show about robots fighting aliens.
>implying I don't watch it to turn my brain off and watch Sand gingers crush Asian faggots
Serious anime shows are pointless, they're just good for flashing lights and blood
>watch grim dark bloody negative violence in any genre
>people think your cool and want to be like you
>watch cute thing doing cute non-violent positive things in any genre
>people think you are a weirdo freak and need to be locked up
Anyone watch this one? I've never seen many threads of it on /a/ and I'm too scared to ask
lel fuck off with your donnie darko shit pleb
You missed the point entirely. Let me put it this way. People who watch Death Note as one of their first anime enjoy it, they then go on to watch more anime and possibly watch Death Note a second time and they find it doesn't really hold up, it's not as good as they first thought when it was the first thing they have seen in the medium. People who use /a/ know this as they watch a lot of anime so when the word 'entry level' gets thrown around it really means the show isn't that great when you have watched a hundred or so series', or at least it isn't as good as you first thought when it was one of the only shows you have watched. For the record, Death Note was one of the first animes I watched I thought it was gods piss, I was the cancer I am complaining about, I then watched more anime and I watched it again. Turned out it wasn't that great.
Where did I saw I liked obscure shit? Can you form an argument without projecting?
These are the essentials, avoid every show that focuses on shitty teen high school drama and you're good.
This, I feel almost dumber after watching anime. I've seen some well written animes, but they are extremely rare and also always inconsistent.
When I watch films or tv-series I usually feel like I can take something from that experience, but animes are just void of anything intellectual or relative to the real world. The stupid tropes don't make things better either. Don't get me wrong though, animes can be enjoyable, but gosh do they feel like a waste of time
You are wrong there. It is the same reason why /tv/ loves capeshit, it's all that is on right now. Every single anime series you can think of has been discussed to death on /a/. Just like most movies and tv shows have been discussed here. They consistently discuss what is currently airing which happens to be a lot of moe. Moe aint even that bad, you are just a closet homosexual who can't admit to liking cute girls doing cute things because of your closest homosexuality.
You sound really inexperienced with anime. If anything anime destroys the vast majority of tv and film and anime is just cartoons. I dont know how you can look at television, modern or otherwise and say that you take away something, but not from anime.
Try some of the recommendations in the thread
Coming from someone who finds most anime to be utter garbage, I think Space Dandy is fantastic. I have never found any anime as mature or as intelligent as this one (including films, and I'm pretty sure I've seen all the good ones:Dbz, Naruto, mononoke, most ghibli films,Outlaw Star, Yuyu hakusho). That is not to say that it doesn't have elements which are designed to cater to a less mature crowd, like excessively cute sounding robots or the occasional unnecessary (and stylistically jarring) gratuitously sexual outfits and angles of the characters wearing said outfits. The stand alone episodes are also sometimes not up to par with the series, but I don't find that they take anything away from the really fantastic main storylines.
The animation is not as good as anime films, but overall I think this series is considerably better than both of the films, and head and shoulders above every other anime series out there.
But in the end, Anime simply cannot match the caliber of American tv series( HBO ) or even Japanese films like Hana-bi.From a critical perspective, it's juvenile NEET pandering garbage.
Maybe you should just come out of the closet anon. Your pent up sexual frustration is showing.
still one of my favorite detectives
I'm a regular on /a/, I actually like K-On! for what it is, but if you go on right now you'll see shitty harem of the season getting praised and legitimate series getting bashed.
This blind "sift through the shit yourself!" approach is why I think most of the anime community has bad taste, or at least /a/ and other so-called enthusiasts.
Seen most of the popular ones mentioned in this thread. I liked Welcome to the NHK and Steins Gate, but not much more than that. And I can admit Death Note was great until L's death
WHY THE FUCK DID LIGHT HAVE TO LOSE
Dont care if you faggots call me edgy. The show would have been so satisfying if it ended with Light coming out on top. There was just so many different ways he could have handled that differently. It was too uncharacteristic of him to make those final mistakes.
All he needed was one of his sluts listening in through an earpiece or a back up piece of paper for his minion use in case the book was tampered with which he should have expected
>tfw he might actually make fedora note good
Thank you based gus
Which animes you think are the best? The problem with animes is that there aren't many serious quality ones or they are not that strong. Death Note being regarded as the best or one of the best is pretty normal because of that reason. It is one of the very few serious and quality anime shows ever. I watched lots of them and only DN and Evangelion I can call GOAT. The rest varies between really good to meh or mostly overrated as shit.
Not the same guy btw
I missed the point because you arent making a point. It doesnt matter how good they think Death Note is. The point is that they are looking for more anime to watch. And if the other animes are so much better than Death Note, then it would be even better for them. You are saying that they should find their own shows, because you are trying to say that what is popular isnt their own. Because liking entry level stuff is "bad". You are putting forward the exact same argument that /a/ uses, but you are using phrases like "people on /a/ say" when you are part of them and these are your opinions.
>Can you form an argument without projecting?
> they then go on to watch more anime and possibly watch Death Note a second time and they find it doesn't really hold up
who exactly is the one projecting here?
Watch the Aoi Bungaku series if you enjoy complex depressing stories about the human psyche. It's an anthology with short adaptions of classic literature. At least check out the Ningen Shikkaku four-parter.
>I didn't expect it to be so good.
And it's not. The opening is BSG-tier in terms of skipping the BS and getting you into the action but the pacing is terrible. There's only one battle with the titans before the human titan is shoehorned in as the main baddie. You obviously watch a lot of anime if you thought AoT was good, because terrible pacing is nearly synonymous with the medium. Here's what would have happened if this was a western TV series:
S1: Same beginning, rest of show is training/establishing characters/fighting titans. Season ends with climatic battle of trost where Erin is killed (and trost is lost).
S2: Eren becomes a titan, but isn't a Gary Stu right away and spends the rest of the season trying to control his ability. A large portion of the season is focused on the internal quarrels and the politics on what to do with him. Season ends with retaking of trost but appearance of female titan to counter Erin's newfound Gary Stu status.
S3: Focus on Scouting missions, establishing external beachheads, learning more about titans, chasing and finally capturing the female titan.
I watched it thinking it would be appealing to a westerner, but alas it makes the same "let's rush the plot to introduce this over-the-top powerful enemy" mistake that I've seen in most animes I've watched.
He's kind of right. I recently watched Death Note again and it was just okay. It gets the job done if you're trying to transition into the medium, but overall I don't think most people consider it a standout great example of what anime is capable of.
It's not bad though, but it's very pedestrian, hence why it's seen as entry level.
shouldve waited to watch the currently airing Fate Stay Night show first, now the original series is ruined for you
but yes if you posted this on /a/ one of the babbies there would probably get triggered
>It gets the job done if you're trying to transition into the medium
It does a GREAT job at that. Hey, it made me be interested in animes. I hated them before DN. God knows how many people became fans of animes because of that show. That should be taken into consideration when talking down on DN.
But like I said, I watched many but still couldn't find an anime much better than DN or Eva.
what do u guys think of these mature animes for mature people
none of that moeshit
Will there ever be an anime has emotionally satisfying as TTGL
Or is this really the peak of the medium?
There aren't 30 anime to have ever existed worth watching, let alone however many is on that list. If you actually think anything that inclusive is remotely fucking useful, please end your fucking life tonight.
ha ha good troll my friend ! these kids have no idea about REAL animé like boku no i dont give a fuck and have you seen the other one MOTY with the schoolgirls and social problems, just like US. fucking plebs
the aesthetic space Death Note occupies is pretty teen mallgoth but it easily transcends those trappings
I found it compulsively watchable (and to be honest, I like Gothic/Romantic stories, and found it worked in that way despite it seemingly being of a lesser iteration/corruption)
i think dear anon is tired of the endless dicksucking that it gets on mainstream sites and needs to bash it to make himself feel better
that being said its 8/10, not enough of an overarching story
OP, I've seen most of the stuff on this list. Here's the stuff that's genuinely worth your time (other stuff might be alright or have great points but isn't consistent). Also there's some stuff I haven't seen but not too much.
>GitS (original movie)
>More Miyazaki shit (Spirited Away is okay but it should not be on this list over some others; Mononoke is pretty alright)
And that's all the shit I'd actually vouch for that I've seen in that list.
Shit I haven't seen in this list that mite b cool:
>Yokohama Lo Mein
>LotGH (I tried but couldn't get past how poorly its animation/sound has aged)
And that's it. Pretty much everything else I've seen and was either mediocre or inconsistent in quality.
Will there ever be an anime that comes close to being as good as Hunter X Hunter?
>my top 9 anime
tippest toppest of keks
Why do people still make anime threads on /tv/ and delude themselves into thinking they have better taste than /a/?
It's group think nonsense at this point.
>2 cours of Mushishi
>2 cours of Space Dandy
This year sure was a good year for patrician animation afficionados such as myself. I don't know how can you watch more than 5 shows a year though. I mean the average quality of anime is just so embarassingly fucking low. Though I guess that's true for western TV as well
It's true for films too. It only seems larger because it's not limited to a single country. But if we were to do that. Limited it only to Hollywood, it's actually worse than Japan and anime.
Also, you don't know shit about anime, kid.
What are you talking about? No one on /a/ even talks about other boards. I don't think we give a shit about any of you. Except /v/ That's our trashchan when we tell trash like you where you belong.
On the top of my head I rank couple of these to my personal all time favorites (live-action shows included in some cases).
Pretty much the whole GitS franchise, expect Arise, which was just a bad attempt from the crew to try to replicate everything that was good with the franchise in the first place without actually understanding the substance of it.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: just a great and fun series for a historybuff like myself and you can clearly tell tha the original novels (to which the series is based on) autohor is one aswell.
After these I can't really decide that which particular movie / series I like the most since to my oppinion both of the franchises mentioned above are in a sort of category of their own. Sure I like most of the stuff that is on the list posted on this thread, Monster comes to my mind especially and I'm looking forward of seeing how HBO handles the liveaction project that was announced sometime ago.
Overall I haven't watched too many anime movies or shows, maybe around 150-250. I tend to be quite picky about the quality of them. Since I'm not in to braindead moeblop genre or too action orientated shows, so that sort of cuts out most of the shows that are available, I've noticed that there seems to be less and less anime available for my picky taste each year. I think this trend started somewhere around 2006-2008.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________:^)___________________________________________________________________you mad, weebshit_______________________
post you're top 5 from this decade
patricians only, if you think criterion movies are "deep" and you unironically use phrases like "film is a visual medium" or "I'm a film buff", don't even bother posting
1. Shinsekai Yori
2. Space Brothers
3. Yuru Yuri
4. Uchouten Kazoku
5. Ping Pong
Has there been any good shows this year other than Mushishi and Ping Pong? All the rest look so fucking dumb and generic based on their premise. This is what I hate about anime. At least with western TV shows I can pretty accurately predict whether I'll like a show or not beforehand.
"Your" shitty board is the most similar to /v/ on 4chan you retard. Why do you think it's only those two and /co/ that have "eternal drawfag" threads? Because it's the exact same type of people visiting them
The difference between boards like /g/ and boards like /v/, /tv/ and /a/, is that /g/ actually spends time doing things constructive, like coding and personalization. /v/ and /a/ just consume media and thinks that makes them cool and superior to others.
So drawfag threadswhich is 99% requests, no discussion and people keeping to themselves is the source of all cancer and shit? Yeah, right. What other boards exactly warrant drawfag threads? Maybe a few other children board to /a/ and /v/ but that's it. At least think a little before posting shit like this. Jesus christ.
I'll allow you to give me an actual thought out and proper problem with /a/. Go ahead.
You misunderstood me. Drawthreads are a symptom, not a cause. No one goes on /a/ and /v/ just to post in draw threads. They're the people who make up the board, and that type of autism (as you astutely observed, 99% pointless) is just not tolerated on other boards
Basically you just have something against the people that say in what order someone should watch unrelated shows as the arrangement would be very opinionated and not helpful in giving thematically similar shows.
Great, that isn´t happening in all rec threads and if it happens it´s by far not written in stone that the person looking for shows has to watch them in that order, the person is still a human being with free will. If an order is given he has the option to ignore it or follow it. When discussions about the order/list come up there is a better chance the person can form his own opinions as that would reveal parts of the shows themes and content.
Rec threads are more about getting some actual good or at least worthwhile results. It is near impossible even finding the few shows a season that aren´t moeshit, let alone the ones that aren´t moeshit AND worth watching.
I love how this pretty much confirms that /a/ is just autistic.
there are plenty of charts that can be used. /a/ even has fucking wiki for that shit
at the bottom of that page. In rec threads everyone just repeats something off one of these charts, so it's a bit pointless to make thread about it when you can just use these charts, or just google it.
I like almost no anime because most of the time the pacing is fucking terrible and is structurally poor.
Best ones I've seen are Code Geass, Ghost in Shell SAC and possibly some shonen like Full Metal Alchemist.
I've searched a lot and these are the only animes that i find awesome:
Death Note - until episode 26
Akame ga Kill
SaO - only Alicization arc
Knights of Sidonia
I tried watching many others but never got the feeling to watch more after the first few episodes.
>not reading the source material first
There is nothing pretentious about Death Note. Light is portrayed as a saturday morning cartoon villain.
You might be confusing with Monster or whatever tedious and pretentious shit /a/ enjoys.
>What animes have you watched and liked guys?
Pretty much every Studio Ghibli movie
Pretty much every Ghost in the Shell movie/show
The Garden of Words
5 Centimeters Per Second
Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple
Read or Die
Strike Witches movies/shows
Space Battleship Yamato 2199
That's the only one I've ever watched.
A host on a podcast brought it up once, saying how it really played with game theory and bluffing really well. I watched it on that recommendation and did like it. Then it switched gears half way through and wasn't as good about it.
It still had the problems that really keep me away from anime though. The awkward upskirt knicker shots of very young looking women. The high pitched squeals of female characters that make it sound like you're watching a japanese porno. There's always a teen romance that is cringey as fuck. And there's the whole weird hashes on their heads and big snot bubbles and over exaggerated movements. It's just all very adolescent. I haven't found an anime that has avoided all of these, but this was the closest and I powered through it because I did enjoy the guessing games.
I've watched a bunch of episode 1s, though not tried again anytime in the last few years.
There was the space debris one, that fell badly into the squeeling teenage girl trap. Despite an interesting premise, I couldn't bring myself to watch any more.
If you know of any that do avoid these pitfalls, I'd love to give it another go.
I honestly can't even think of something to recommend. I've watched a lot of anime and found most of it to be either garbage or mediocre. You really have to wad through oceans of shit to find anything remotely decent. Yet I keep watching it mostly because I'm just beyond burnt out on regular television.
My biggest bit of advice I could offer is to completely avoid 1-cour adaptations of unfinished works. Just don't even bother. This should really free up any backlog you might have because unfortunately this is like 50% of what anime is nowadays. Just glorified ads for the source material. Most of them don't even have proper endings and it just feels unsatisfying as fuck. Just do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this shit.
the manga monster doesnt have really any squeeling at all and all that bullshit you dont like, mushishi is another one that doesnt have it as well as mononoke (not the miyazaki film but the tv show). There are others that have these cringy tropes but in very small quantities, but these are the only ones that i can think of that really dont have any.
Berserk is the best by far. Aside from that, I can pretty much find something to appreciate about pretty much every anime I watch since I have very low standards when it comes to anime. I recently watched Watamote and the first 3 seasons of Slayers, both of which I liked for what they were (though that 3rd season of Slayers was shit). The only anime that I can say that I hated was Samurai 7. I'm a big fan of Seven Samurai and this show is just a disgrace. Everything about it is shit from the character designs, music, story (because they fucked around with the plot), animation, the list goes on. This Samurai 7 was the only anime that legitimately pissed me off. Fuck that show.
I came here to say ZZ is better
