>Burma

How does it compare to Thailand and Cambodia? My wife and I are planning on going to Laos here soon and I would like to also go to Burma but I am not sure itll be feasible, since its so hard to travel in Burma and time constraints. The trip would go roughly

>Luang Prabang
>Vientiane
>vang Vieng
>Yangon
>Mandaly
>Bagan

Is Burma worth it? I really want to visit it due to the mystique of it, however my wife isnt really sold on the idea since it is so undeveloped even in the tourist parts.
>>
>>944767
I believe someone will respond to this eventually. There are people here that have been to Burma
>>
>>944767
Go to Burma it's rapidly changing and in a few years it will be as populated with tourists as it's neighbors.

(2012)I got around via bus and plane and had little to no problem. Yes it's easier to get around Thailand, if it wasn't for years of shit government, corruption, and mismanagement Thailand would be closer to KL an Singapore.
Yangon is kinda trashy, I say spend no more than a day here, the LP walking guide is suprisingly decent and you can end your day at the Strand chilling during happy hour. I took a comfortable night bus up to Bagan and spent 3 nights. Bagan by bicycle was such a chill, laid back, and wonderful sight. Personally I love temple architecture, so it was a huge bonus for me. We then took a bus to Kalaw for a staging point of a 3 day walk to Inle (¬60km). Inle was nice, but unless you really love riding a bike by a lake and taking in wineries, it's not too amazing. However I would work it into any plan. We (coworker and I) then flew to Ngapali Beach and had another few wonderful days. It's expensive over there, we managed to get into a hotel that was finishing construction for $40/night some Bungalows were $300. The beach was pristine and quiet. I really wish that I had visited Mandalay and Amarapura Bridge. Over all I believe we spent 19days there and I plan on returning soon/ You are right there are areas open to travel which are harder to get to, but the main stops are easy. The road to Kalaw or Inle is the bumpy one, the main highways going from Yangon to the North and smooth. Buses are better than trains for cost, safety, and cleanliness.
It's easier to get around Thailand, don't forget they're #2 in the world for road deaths though. Cambodia, I felt it was as easy as Burma to get around. I have little experience in Laos.
However, if your wife is worried about undeveloped, why the hell are you considering SEA at all? Delays, lack of foresight and safety, laid back "get there whenever" attitude etc. Also, stay away from Phuket.

how much of a concern is Malaria?
>>
>>944891
I lived in SEA for 6+ years and have never once taken an anti-malaria. I have gotten Dengue though. A slightly higher risk than Thailand, but nothing like Africa.
>>
>>944767
Iam in mandalay at the moment. Bagan clearly is a must see, like siem reap!

Pic is Yangon, Myanmar
Think of Myanmar as Asia's Cuba: gorgeous, lavish, time-capsule living that swings wildly between palatial and rustic.
>>
>>944854
The wife and I went to Thailand and Cambodia last year, she fell in love with thailand and really liked cambodia (she started cambodia off on a bad note because we crossed at poipet without any forward travel planned out, it was the shittest 4 hours of the month long trip).

She wants to go back to Laos and I would really like to see Burma. I know Burma is more difficult than the other 3 countries so I am somewhat hesitant. Another concern of mine is the electricity situation as well as the Internet, both of which I have heard are intermittent at best.

I found it no more difficult than Thailand. Internet is available at 90% of the hotels on desktops, but there wasn't a lot of wifi going around 2.5 years ago. I fucking loved it, it was like being thrown back a decade or two. Using the phone or having reception using the phone to book buses and planes, every single person wasn't staring at their phone.

I didn't have one hiccup the entire time I was there. As for electricity, I always had power at night, early in the morning was when they shut it off. So when you are out and about the power is off, when you are sleeping there was AC.
If you decide on it, I can name some nice hotels I stayed at. I switched it up, sometimes as cheap as I could get, then staying at a nicer place like La Maison Birmane in Inle.
>>
>>945179
>Yangon, Myanmar
Id actually like to hear the places you stayed at just for curiosity sake. I'm headed to SEA in March and never really considered Myanmar because I need to have reliable internet access due to some online college classes I have. I need to be able to log in at least twice a week to upload assignments.
>>
>>945107
You two are little bitches arent you? The electrical power works perfectly fine, the internet surely is extremly slow. Those are thinks you have to deal with, when visiting a undeveloped country like burma. Iam writing from mandalay, of course you cant watch youtube videos, but for the rest its fine.
>>
I'll be in Yangon in a couple of weeks. How easy is it to navigate there by taxis? Can just haul them and are they going to speak English or understand if I just point to my destination written down?
>>
Country is shite
>>
>>945743
Shut up asshole, you probably have never been there. I fell completely in love with the burmese people

just came back from Yangon/Inle Lake/Bagan/Mandalay/Yangon trip

Myanmar is great, and you should definitely go. Travelling internally isn't hard, nor is getting a visa and getting in. The place is modernising very fast.

Bagan is uniquely beautiful, rent scooters and fang around the temples. pic is of the city wall

Mandalay is boring but i got laid there so that was good

Inle is beautiful and chill, spend a day on the lake. I would have gone to the wineries if I had time.

Yangon is just another big dirty city, a cross between Mumbai and Bangkok. Good food though.

>>944895
I also never get malarials

>>945053
i took that same photo (with my friend in the pic), but the temple is covered up right now as they are repainting, so it looked kinda shit

>>945107
we had a power out or two, no biggie. fuck the internet m8, harden up

>>945197
DONT stay at the backpackers with the pods. good service but shit-ass hostel. I really liked the Pickled Tea Hostel, though the location is a bit out of the way.

>>945268
better to have the address written in the local language and a map, english is not reliable.

>>945743
explain? because you're very wrong
>>
>>946465
>>945255
OP here, I actually NEED Internet access to periodically check on work related items since I own my own business and will need to check the log books every few days of sales and shit.
>>
>>946465
>Mandalay is boring but i got laid there so that was good
local or fellow traveler?
>>
Travelled Yangoon, Mandalay, Hsipaw hiked through mountains to Namshan, Hiked Kalaw to Inle Lake. Train to Myitkyna in the north then ferry back to Mandalay. Bagan and Chung tha beach.
Spent 2 months there in 2009. Probably changed a lot since then.. travelling between cities can be rough (or was) but if you are a chill traveller and have time its the best place i travelled in asia by far. Unlike above Chung tha beach was cheap as fuck for a nice cabin almost empty long sand beaches with palm trees.. spent $60 for a week there and that included cabin, beer, seafood, really good restaurant meals etc.. but the road there was probably the most hellish day you will ever spend in a bus.

Muslim mother and children hung by Buddhists in Burma. You won't see this on the news.
>>
>>947331
I don't watch cable. Only the local channels. Mostly ABC. Obviously I can, and do, consume a lot of my news online, but that is not how most of the USA does. The WP and NY Times does great covering international events. As well as Time. But their reach is limited these days. A lot of things that is big news internationally, is not well reported in the USA.
>>
>>947325
you know what you don't see on the news?

the fact that muslims keep raping buddhist women and the fact that the muslims are illegal immigrants

oh, how about the ISIS members painting the letter N for nazarene (christian) onto the doors of christians in iraq and syria so that they can be visited by death squads.

fuck the muslims.
>>
>>947384

-.-
>>
>>947384
>>947325
Yikes.
I'm so sickened by the ISIL atrocities, I have to admit I don't seek out the news anymore. A doctor friend who has remaining (elderly) family in Syria was telling me 3-4 years ago about the "rebels" doing this same stuff, tearing down historic sites, burning books, and nonsense like that that i was like damn, that stuff has been around since biblical times, and the stuff to people, just too much. And, burning someone alive, wtf kind of barbarians can do that, look a human in the eye and be lacking such a moral compass. Disgusting.
So, I appreciate your candid insider descriptions, but I sadly have to put my head in the sand and ignore it, because I'm just too sensitive to read about it daily.
I was a kid when I visited Guatemala in the 80s and I vividly remember dead priests and nuns on the side of the road, more than once, flies and all, and little children aged militia guarding city corners, with machine guns at night, all scared and far too young to fight against their will. They were picked up at gunpoint from their villages to work. I'm a traveler, but I have sense to avoid that in my age now. I don't need risk to find somewhere I want to visit right now.

>>947325
I'm a Bangladeshi citizen, and have been to Burma. The Burmese rohingya(muslim people) are a serious problem in the border districts, but you shouldn't call them illegal immigrants in their own homeland. There is research that suggests the rohingya people made it to the Burmese soil even before the buddhists did. It is pretty much a genocide at the current state.

I don't have anything to say about Burma. But I went on a trip to Laos last year to visit family, and I have to say that the place is wonderful. It was my first time leaving the country and it was amazing. Be ready for lots of smiling people ready to make you feel welcome. And I don't think it was just because I'm half Lao, I've met some people that said they were treated great there and they were of different ethnicity (all of western origin). The south is where I visited, near Savannakhet, Pakse, and Champasak. Just beautiful and laid back. I hope you enjoy the trip!
>>
>>947325
It's 'HANGED' when you kill people. 'Hung' is for pictures on the wall, or nignogcocks

Anyway, they aren't hanged strictly because they're 'Muslims', but because they're minority poorfag scapegoats for anything bad. If they were Christians or Hindus or Zen Buddhists, it almost wouldn't matter.
>>
>>949092
whenever muslims kill hundreds of thousands of christians or jews it's a "tragedy"

but when a few thousand muslims get displaced it's a genocide?

fuck off, camelfucker

havent been to burma but hope this helps you anyway:

the nightmarket in luang prabang is really nice and there's loads of nice food there.
Also the most beautiful waterfall ive ever seen with cyan blue water.
There also is the 'bowling alley'; because bars have to close at 12 people go there to keep on drinking which i disliked veey much.

vang vieng has beautiful mountains and a nice lagoon bit is full of fullmoon-esque bars where you can order all kinds of drugs and listen to shitty music.

Can't say too much about vientiane, i've only been there for one day.

haven't been to the other 3 because i spent most of my time in the south.
Si Phan Don (4000 islands) is a very nice place on the border to cambodia but full of stoners.
Also there's the biggest waterfall in se-asia which is quite impressive.
In Champasak is a very nice khmer temple thats usually really peaceful.

Those roads! I've spent 8 hours in the back of my uncles truck as we rode to Khone phapeng falls. 12 people loaded up in a quad cab pickup, front and back. It was one hell of a cramped ride but was worth it.

They don't have a 4chan because Cambodia IS a 4chan. Seriously. Go to /b/ and tell us what you see: gore, child porn, nudes nudes nudes, drug threads, losers, creeps, and weapons.

Well, that's Cambodia in a nutshell. Angkor and the other ruins are just a very, very, very small part of that country. Most of it is an utter shithole just like this place.
>>
>>950127
What /b/ are you looking at, and where's that time machine so I can borrow it for better things than surfing the 4chan of yesteryear.
>>
>>950127

Dude you're thinking of how /b/ was years ago. I haven't seen much child porn on there since like 2011.
>>
>>950147
And Cambodia's the same. They've cracked down on child prostitution but if you really wanna fuck an 8 year old, it's still very doable.

Likewise, /b/ is still home to plenty of cheese pizza.
>>
>>944767
Never been to Thailand or Laos, but Burma is really cool.

Get the JJ buses if you value your sanity.

If you've ever been to China, it's about that level of disorganised, so just be prepared for nothing going to plan ever.

Bagan is fucking cool. Yangon is nice, but rotting. The clubs are shit during the week, try the weekend. Also go to Inle Lake
>>
>>950147

yeah now /b/just posts lolicon threads to skirt the CP ban, and people still comment CP within threads but gets removed pretty quickly
