*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥

Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

Where do you think we are?
>>
I had some questions about visiting Japan and figure this is a decent place to ask.

I wouldnt call myself a hardcore weaboo but I am big into video games, computers, anime, and that kind of thing. I always tell my brother that we will visit japan one day, half jokingly. I actually started looking into pricing and stuff for flights around May and it didn't seem as bad as i thought, tickets both ways for two totaling ~1250 USD.

The only thing i'm worried about is what the options are for places to stay at. I've never traveled anywhere for an extended period of time and was thinking around 10-14 days would be my stay IF i decided to go ahead and make the meme come true.

I initially thought the plane tickets would be the biggest part of the investment but looking through hotels and such it is obvious that this will burn a way bigger hole in my pocket than i thought. Any advice?

Also like i said it was always half of a joke, so i dont even know what i would really be aiming to do in japan. I was thinking of landing in Osaka, seeing some cultural or nature stuff, eating sushi since its a big coastal city, taking a train to kyoto and doing the same. From there i thought i would take another train from kyoto to Tokyo, stopping halfway to see Mt Fuji.

From there i have no idea. I was thinking just exploring the city would have enough to keep us entertained
>>
Crazy question, i will be in tokyo, i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am looking for really nice chopsticks. Where can I find a place that sells them or specializes in them?

Hey guys, I'm planning on spending up to a year in Japan teaching English using a working holiday visa through the 2018 year. Is there any useful resources regarding living expenses in Japan? It doesn't need to be specifically Tokyo, but I'll take as much info as I can find.
>>
>>1215407
Oh fuck are you serious? I need to be able to get in on the ground floor then. The fish in the first few weeks are going to be incredible.
>>
>>1215389
For Canuckistanian and other Commonwealth countries' passport holders, you used to be able to get a "Working Holiday" visa where you could spend up to six months in Japan and also work legally. Most of the available jobs (so I'm told) were crap, teaching English, or both - but hey, six month visa. Had a housemate who worked as a bartender/semi-bouncer for some shady-looking folk that were probably missing bits of their fingers; no idea how he got it, but that's probably about the only sort of under-the-table job you'd get as a furriner.

>>1215389
Most helpful thing you can do is to have a college degree; that'll go a long way towards getting a legitimate visa unless you're making stupid amounts of money.

Go for it, my man.
I stayed at hostels throughout my 2 weeks, about 3-4000 yen per night. Obviously cheaper if you stay longer in one place. They were all OK, so if you don't mind hostels they are a good option imho. Try looking them up on booking for example and then try to book them directly, will save you some bucks.
If you like big cities you can do what you wrote down, I've been to kyoto and tokyo 3 and 4 days respectively. Kyoto is VERY touristy, I heard more chinese and korean than japanese; kyoto is basically buddism central there so expect shrines/temples on every corner. Tokyo is very different, for me personally it was a disappointment as I found out it was suffocating me. Too big, too rigid, however if you like cities and night life you'll love it. Haven't been to Osaka though, can't comment on that.
Other than that you can take day sidetrips from each city, like Nara from Kyoto or Nikko from Tokyo, etc.
By the looks of it you don't need JR Pass either, since you aren't traveling a lot. Or you could take a week one and do the traveling in that period (you can activate it anytime basically), check out if it's worth for you.
If you don't know what to do just google "x day itinerary japan/tokyo/kyoto/etc" and you'll find a lot of info what people did and liked then you can assemble your own itinerary and book your accomodations accordingly. If you decide to use trains hyperdia.com is a very good site you can plan your travelling.
Here is my itinerary from october, may have overorganized a bit, but well....it was my first long trip alone so it was ok. Did follow through except the Nikko sidetrip, was rather tired by the end and just walked around tokyo aimlessly. All in all I loved the rural and smaller cities of Japan, biggest surprise was Kanazawa for me. It was probably the one place I liked the best.

I loved it!
I can only recommend, however be prepared. The place is volcanic, so at the top there is sulfur in the air and since the palce you land is about 2300m asl you might get air thisty. So you leave a realitely low altitude and get to the top rather rapidly (if you want to spend as much time as possible at the top/peak area) you don't have a lot of time acclimating, so be mindful of that.
I personally never been above 1500m previously on a mountain so it might be another thing but as mentioned I went from nagano to the top in about 6 hours and I couldn't forward my backpack so I was carrying it all the way (roughly 10kgs) and at the top I had to stop every so often to breath.
If you want to climb to the very peak (3000m) you will need time so consider spending the night at the hotel on the top otherwise you will have to rush through the other areas as the buses and trains have a schedule and the last bus leaves rather early.
As for the place itself, it was beautiful. I was lucky that the clouds cleared up just when I reached the top. I believe it's worth a trip.

Visa requirements are long, nasty, and usually involve lawyers, but the short version is "If you have a bachelor's degree of any type or higher, it makes getting a visa a lot easier for everyone involved". If you want to do the eikaiwa thing, many schools require you have at least an undergrad degree.

Not good m8. Tokyo is easier to live in for an American than Europe and Canada because of the English teaching route, but you will not get an "under the table job" that will just set you up in Tokyo. It's not happening.

I can't speak for everyone, but people speak to me in French and Italian pretty often. At work, where I've introduced myself a couple of times and clearly mentioned I'm American, people still block it out and ask me if I'm Australian, European, or Brazilian. I've spoken to people in English with my American accent and they still challenge me that I'm not American. I think being a healthy weight and well dressed throws them off.

Do it! You'll never regret it. Be wary of your brother though if he's not as "in the scene" as you are or at all. So try to include him as much as you can in the planning and what stuff you'll do. I've only ever gone with like minded people or my girlfriend (who is from there) so although you might be high on dopamine from just browsing snacks at an 7-11 other people can be very bored or overwhelmed.

May should be good for seeing Fuji but beeware that you might miss it. Over two trips I went to Hakone and Fuji-Kawaguchiwara, basically at either foot of the mountain and couldn't see it, not even from places high up in Tokyo as Tokyo Tower or Skytree. When I finally did see it was on my thrid trip where I only went to Osaka and accidently saw it taking off from KIX.

So the only way of being sure is climbing it :)
But I do recommend going to Hakone on the way to Tokyo, just hop off at Odawara and then stay a night at a hotspring

So it is a city, but not so big and rigid as Tokyo or as touristy as Kyoto. There are several tiny "districts" you can visit and wander around, here the buildings are left as they were built back in the day. And you can enter the gardens of a lot of these houses and just walk around them.
At my hostel they explained the city has ninja origins, as such the streets are unlike of a modern city, they are curvy and narrow except the few main roads.
You can easily spend half a day in the Kenroku-en garden, it was really pretty and relaxing. There are remains of a castle, not as interesting as himeji or matsumoto though imho, but that's another place to go.
It's a costal city so if you want to eat some good sushi/fish it's a great place to do so.
Tbh I can't point it out to you why I loved it, but it was a perfect balance for me it being a city.
If you are interested in booking a hostel, I can recommend Guest House Pongyi. It is close to the train station (5 minutes) and the owners are very nice. Though it is rather small it being a kimono shop in the past, if you don't mind it it's great to stay at.

Hi, I'm a Japanese living in Kyushu.

I suggest that you stay at Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe for each night.
Kyoto is the old capital of Japan and you can see many historical building.
Osaka is big and vibrant city famous for nice food (e.g. Takoyaki)
And Kobe is urbane port city that has old western-style atmosphere.

Of course Kyushu has other charms, for example, too many Onsen(hot spirng), cheap and nice foods, majestic natures like Mt.Aso...but Kyushu does'nt have big city expect for Hakata/Tenjin area(Fukuoka Pref.).
And at end of May, Kyushu will be rainy season, so it's hard to travel in local area of Kyushu.

Sorry for my poor English.

You do it over the internet like any other airline. They all have english websites. The cheaper, shittier airlines like Vanilla Air and Jetstar Japan may ostensibly have the lowest fares, but they don't give you any checked-in baggage allowance or a limit of 10kg, and they charge you an arm and a leg for anything additional. I recommend Skymark Airlines for no dodgy business practices.
>>
>>1216044
Seems like Skymark doesn't offer Tokyo to Osaka connections. Problem is, I will have a lot of baggage. I guess I'll have to take a Shinkansen, then.
>>
>>1216049
Aren't you buying the rail pass? Domestic travel is much easier on the shinkansen than the plane in Japan - lots of luggage space, plenty of legroom.

Only reason i got the plane is because there's still no shinkansen route to Sapporo.
>>
>>1216052
Shinkansen is more expensive though. I'm not on a vacation. I'll be in Tokyo for a few months and want to move on to Osaka eventually. Looking into my options at the moment.

So I am european and I'd like to hitchike to Japan Through Russia. Is there any way of crossing the border directly from Russia? Any ferries, etc.? Can I buy visa there or do I have to have it with me already?
Of course I'm interested in doing this the cheapest way possible
>>
>>1216055
If you want to save money and have enough time, you might choose night bus.(in Japanese YAKO BASU)
There are many night buses from Tokyo to Osaka.
>>
>>1216058
Right, didn't even think of that. I might just do that.
>>
>>1216060
Check how much luggage you can take. I just booked my night bus and it had limitations on luggage and some buses didn't have room for any large luggage at all. Read the fine print.
>>
>>1216057
There is two ferries from Russia to Japan.

One is Vladivostok to Sakaiminato(Tottori Pref.) via Korea.
http://www.dbsferry.com/eng/main/main.asp

Another is Korsakov to Wakkanai(Hokkaido Pref.), but you have to cross the sea to Sakhalin before you get on the ferry.
>>
>>1216066
Thank you. Is hitchhiking through north Korea absolutely moronic and out of the question, or is there a slight chance of success? (I'd cross the Russian-Korean border)
>>
>>1216069
It's a good idea if you're tired of living.
>>
>>1216069
I don't know well about North Korea, but I'd like to say it's not good idea.
North Korea is exclusive, and is not friendly country to Japan or USA, especially South Korea, so there may be much risk.
Even if you could cross the border from Russia to North Korea, I think you could not hitchhike.
>>
>>1216069
There is no freedom of movement in North Korea, North Koreans traveling within the country must show documentation why they might be traveling from one region to another. A foreigner traveling in North Korea regardless of Nationality must do so via a sanctioned tourism agency and have an assigned minder. There is no "solo" or unsupervised movement in the country.
>>
>>1216074
I guess that solves it then. A pity. Though it would be damn funny if they assigned a minder to hitchhike with me
>>
>>1216069
nobody has cars so you would only be hiking. do your research so they dont put you in prison for 10 years

I'll be in Japan for 9 days, the start of April. Does anyone know of any scenic and charming small towns that aren't too far from Tokyo?

I've been to Kyoto before and loved it, but I don't think we'll have time to go that far away from Tokyo since we'll only have 9 days in Japan and we arrive and leave from Tokyo.

Lived in Japan for a friend for a month, a recreational stay.

I stayed with a friend who lives there permanently (Last 5 years), and it was a blast.

Is living in Japan on your own lonely? Is it possible to make friends and establish a healthy social life?

Could someone give me a brief pro/con, and recommendation of living there? (Or direct me to a good resource on the topic)

Learn Japanese and don't presume your culture to be correct or better than Japanese culture and its definitely possible to make real friends and relationships

But even with a perfect accent and deep understanding of the culture people who don't know you well personally will keep you from advancing as fast and as high as you should in society.

I'm going to be making my first visit to Japan this August. I plan on spending 7 days in the Tokyo metro area and am trying to learn the best way to move about. Just back from 3 weeks in Japan.

Saw the snow festival in Sapporo, bathed with snow monkeys in an onsen in Nagano, relaxed in a ski resort ryokan in Shizukuishi, sang Karaoke (badly) with locals in a tiny bar in Asakusa, went to Mt. Takao and then window shopping in Nakano Broadway, got sunburned while sightseeing in Okinawa, experienced my first earthquake while eating gyudon in Narita, good stuff.

So what's the best way to get over the crushing feeling of loss and depression after coming back to a country without clean public toilets, drink vending machines at every corner and 24h-conbinis, where people loudly talk on their mobile phones in the subway and waiters expect you to throw extra money at them for doing their fucking job?

It was such a great trip. Spent a day at Fuji-Q Highland amusement park, hit up the Imperial War Museum, spent a day at Fox Village, visited so many shrines, did the Tokyo Skytree, Odaiba, and spent a fair bit of time just randomly walking the streets, getting off the beaten path.

Planning is an absolute nightmare.

How are you supposed to travel around with two weeks worth of stuff when you need to cycle and use the train all the time?
Apparently the coin lockers are only 24 hours and are quite small.

Is there a way to leave a suitcase around for a few days?
I want to take the cycling bridge from Onomichi to Omishima Island and spend the night and cycle back. But obviously I can't cycle with a suitcase.
>>
>>1216488
option a) get a small backpack instead of a suitcase. For a 2 week trip, 25L should be more than enough (provided it's not in winter).

Option b) coin lockers usually can store for more than 24 hours (I think it was up to a week at major train stations/airports).
>>
>>1216484
Yeah, the streets are kind of iffy in Sapporo (and appearantly in most of Japan), especially when it goes from 20 cm of ice to a clean curb. They seemed to be using grit, but I don't think it did much. Didn't have too much trouble myself, though, as I was wearing good winter shoes and watched my step. I think most people are just wearing bad shoes.

>>1216488
you have a couple options:
- Learn to travel light.
- Ask your hotel if you can leave your suitcase with them.
- send your baggage to the next hotel with Yamato Kuroneko Takkyubin
- leave your baggage at some storage facility, they're often available at stations
>>

It was actually a much nicer hotel than I originally thought it would be. Comfy as fuck bed, amazing shower. Kind of a walk from Shinjuku station, but there is a subway station almost under it (Tochomae, on the Toei line) that takes you to Shinjuku station. The minibar had Yamazaki 12 year if you're into whiskey, though it was 500 yen more than the other travel size bottles I saw in a couple of the liquor stores I went to. Go with a friend, if you don't have a friend then find a friend. It's boring as fuck going there alone.

Go to Jumanji 55 for clubbing, don't go to Gaspanic, you have to have a drink with you at all times or you get kicked out. Usually the club doesn't get crowded until after midnight, and from about 0200-0300, the places is so crowded that you can't walk around the main area.

Oh, and if you want to go to a bar or anything, a nice place I found is called iDarts, it's right next to a 7/11. The bartenders there are really cool. If you want to smoke shisha then go to the bar right next to it.

Hey there /trv/, Polandfag here planning a trip to Japan and I have an electricity related question.

First of all let me tell you that I have barely any technical knowledge regarding the subject so don't yell at me if I'm missing something obvious. The thing is that here in Poland the standard for the electric socket, voltage and frequency is completely different from Japan's (Type E; 230 V / 50 Hz to be exact), I figured that I'm going to need some sort of adapter but after some googling those turned out to be rather expensive if you want the fancy (read: safest) one, which I wouldn't mind getting if I wanted to bring more than my phone and a netbook, both of which can be charged with an usb cable. So my question is, will I be able to get some sort of cheap USB adapter in Japan that will safely charge my things, or do hotels have USB ports built in along with the normal sockets where I could charge my phone without a need for any adapter at all, should I actually go for an universal adapter that can change both voltage and frequency of the current, or will I be fine charging both my phone and laptop in lower voltage/frequency?
>>
>>1216800
It's actually not that hard if you're decently attractive looking (as in not a fatass and don't smell bad). And if you're white then it makes it much easier.

Most of them can already understand or speak a decent amount of English. But of course it definitely helps to have someone who can actually speak Japanese be with you. If you can't find anyone, then at most you'd only need to memorize like a few words. Saying "kirei", for example, is telling them that they're attractive/beautiful, so that's helpful even though literally every other guy trying to get a girl will be saying the same thing to them all night.

Oh also I should let you know, that the clubs in Japan allow people to smoke cigarettes indoors. In Jumanji practically everyone is smoking in there all the time. So yeah that's just a warning for you if you can't stand the smell of cigarettes.
>>
>>1216801
For hotels, may depend on whether you're staying in an actual hotel or a hostel, but my hotel gave me a universal adapter to use during my stay. Other than that, I would think you'd be able to find something for a decent price at Yodobashi Camera or Bic Camera.

It is closer to beer -- it is a brewed beverage, not a distilled one, though some sakes have additional alcohol added. It comes in a huge range of dry-sweet, as well as being available in sparking or unfiltered (nigiri) varieties, and sometimes has added fruit flavors and shit like that.

Bad sake is pretty bad, to my taste, good sake is amazing, again to my taste, for which there is no accounting.

If money were no object, I would eat and drink like a fucking king. You're partly wrong anyway. Nagoya (and Aichi prefecture at large) has more foreigners as percentage of population than Osaka does. Automotive and other heavy industry account for this.

Dude, that's just not true. Michelin handles all the ratings. Michelin does not let anyone handle Michelin ratings but Michelin. It has been alleged that Michelin sucks up to Tokyo a bit, and I don't know if that's true, but to say Japan has its own rating system is silly.

Hello people, I'm desperately hoping someone here can answer my question.

I will be moving to Japan (Sapporo) early April, having gotten a job at a private English school.
I'm currently in the UK, and am looking at working visa requirements, but their is alot of conflicting information online, and the official embassy's site is not loading up.

My question is, is there a minimum amount of money you need to have in the bank in order to get the working visa?
Some sources say you need £2500, others say £1500.
I intend to have £1600 after booking my flight, which having spoken to my boss, I've been told will be enough to last me till i first get paid.

Please somebody clarify these requirements for me! Thanks so much in advance.

Well, I really enjoyed it.
.
Nagano itself was not all that exciting - from a touristic point of view it was pretty much dead. Not much snow, either. Most shops on the approach to Zenkoji were closed.

Yudanaka was a different story, though. It's about an hour or so by train (snow monkey express) from Nagano, and the snow levels kept rising. Station attendants were busy shoveling away 15 cm of fresh snow when we arrived. Then you take the bus ride to the vicinity of the monkey park. There's only 1-2 buses per hour, so they can get a bit cramped. It's a bit adventurous-looking too with narrow streets and all.
The whole town with its Ryokan and Onsen looked really picturesque - they had like 50+ cm of accumulated snow, icicles hanging from roofs, etc. Would probably be awesome to stay there for a night or two and relax in a comfy room with access to a rotenburo.

The monkey park itself is not too exiting - it's like half an hour of walking a snowy path through a monotonous forest, hugging a mountainside before you get to the monkeys. They have an entrance hut with toilets and a few posters and showcases about the park and the monkeys, and then you access the valley end where they've built a pool for the monkeys to bathe in. The monkeys themselves are really nice to watch because it's a unique setting - your milage may vary depending on how much you like monkeys - and they're completely used to humans. They were ignoring the crowd and darting everywhere past people's feet. At least good for an hour-long foto session or so. Due to the remote location it wasn't even that crowded.

My personal highlight was that just before the park, there's an old Ryokan where you can bathe for 500 yen. They have a mixed rotenburo, and if you're lucky the monkeys may join you, too - though they just watched us from the rim. Only downside is that it's in full view of the tourist path, but it's not like I'll ever see any of those Chineses again.

Will provide pics in a bit.

Is this itinerary okay for 13 days 12 nights or is it too much?
1-5 Tokyo. Day trips to Hakone and either Nikko/Kamakura.
6-10 Kyoto. Trips to Nara, Osaka, Himeji
11-12 Hiroshima + MIyajima
13 Tokyo flight

Is it even worth going to Hiroshima for 2 days? Would a day trip from Kyoto be enough to see both Hiroshima and Miyajima?
>>
>>1217907
There's loads to do around Hiroshima.
You could do a trip to the rabbit island, and then carry on to Onomichi and back to Hiroshima in a day.
>>
>>1217907
I would recommend against Hakone and Kamakura personally.

Kamakura: Unless you really like that kind of stuff, you're already going to be seeing a lot of culture, temples, etc. in Kyoto.

Hakone: While there are some cool spots, you'll be spending a lot of time travelling for a day trip. I'd stay in the city or pick somewhere closer.
Maybe save it for next time. Do an overnight stay then you can easily visit the Fuji areas too.
>>
>>1217907
I would skip Osaka and/or Hiroshima and spend more time in Tokyo personally. Hakone is not really a day trip, I'd recommend spending at least a night there (is doable on the way to Kyoto). Nikko is also more of a 1 night thing. Kamakura is really the perfect day trip, Enoshima is really cool and Kamakura is really great (especially in summer).

I wouldn't pass up Kamakura. The temples and shrines are comfy and unique and not as overrun as Kyoto/Nara. Riding the Enoden line there is also very cool - get yourself a spot right behind the driver if you can. You can also visit the beach or cvontinue on to Enoshima.

I kind of agree on Hakone - I'd say you get a better view of Mt. Fuji from Fuji or Mishima (or the train ride between). Aside from the various things you can ride (train - bus - ship - cableway) on the way to the best view, I found it kind of stressful and underwhelming for a day trip.

That's disappointing. I kind of really want to do Hakone so I guess I'll do a night there and stay at a ryokan or something.

I'll also do Hiroshima as a day trip instead. Should be able to do Miyajima as well if I take the 630am train.

I'm not sure about Enoshima in the spring? Not really interested in the beach.

I kind of want to travel enough to make a 14 day JR pass worth it. At this point I'm getting the 7 day pass.

>>
>>1217973
Be sure you are not tall. There's a height limit on a lot of attractions in general in Japan. If your height starts with a 5 you are probably okay for 80% of the rides though.
>>
>>1218007
If I am about exactly 6 feet should I be alright?

And should it be disneyland? I know when I'm visiting family in california I much prefer six flags, it's cheaper and has better rides. Does Japan have similar competition?
>>
>>1218011
exactly 6 ft should still cover the main rides barring some children shit.

What you need to understand about Japanese theme parks is that it's mostly about the atmosphere, even more so than in the US. Six flags is a theme park focused on extreme rides and thrills. These things are far less popular in Japan, so please don't go to a theme park for that very experience.

That said disneySEA is still the best in the ride department. And yes Japan is absolutely faggot for building 2 different disney theme parks next to each other.
>>
>>1218011
As a sidenote if you're willing to travel a larger distance (not that big) from Tokyo. Check out Fuji-Q. These are not my type of rides and I think six flags is better but maybe they are right up your alley.

Those are the top dogs in Japan.

So if you've read through this thread at all you might have seen many possible ways to go.
But as a NEET I'll try to explain to you how I went. Calling my self a NEET is kind of inaccurate though. I do work 3 months out of the year. Most years... You do need money for this. And if you really want to go then its worth it.

Anyways. I work 3 months of of the year. Collect unemployment the rest of the time. For the 2 months I went there I saved up about 5k dollars.
$5,000
-$735 round trip plane ticket (price will be different for you)
-$510 21 day rail pass (was $576 when I went)
= around $3,750 for everything else.

Lets say you average around $30 a night for hostels or Airbnb's.
For 2 months (assuming you go for that long) its about $1,680 total for Sleeping.
-another $1,680. 30 a day for food (this varies because some days you eat one or 2 ramens and other days you splurge on a steak and sushi)

So. I covered my tickets there and back. Transportation for the first 21 days, which is plenty to see a lot. And all your food and lodging.
That left me with around $400 spending money. Which is very little. But considering I was able to do that whole trip in the first place was more than enough.
>>
>>1218107
Thank you, anon. I will wagecuck until i have collected 5,000$
>>
>>1218108

Also. Some how, (I think its because I really didn't eat a lot) I ended up coming home with around $800 extra.

But that's just me.
You'll have to fine tune it to what you want to see and do.
I'm also not an impulsive buyer so I didn't really buy much souvenirs.
>>
Just booked my third trip over in November.

Going to do it on the cheap so flying into Narita on <$300 tickets and got an Airbnb for the week in Ikebukuro which was around $200 for me (travelling with one other).

No. I didn't get laid there. I did go to dinner with this girl and her friend that I met. It didn't go anywhere because I'm an autistic faggot.

>would being fit help?
Probably, but I feel liking having a good personality would trump it. If you have both then go for it.

Also read the /trv/ sticky meme.

Also, personally I wouldn't suggest going for a full 2 months.
The reasons being I pretty much got stuck in Tokyo after my rail pass expired. Which wasn't too bad. Tokyo is an awesome city with lots to see and do.
But I also had to stretch my money out to last the whole 56 days.
If I did it again I would go for around 40 days.
I feel like you could do more in that less amount of time because you wouldn't have to stretch your dollar out.

the vagabond sticky part was useless lmao

If I go and I like it, I'm staying. The 5000 should get me a couple of months maybe to find work.

I always stretch my dollar. I cook good meals and that's very very cheap to do, plus i eat very few calories.

I dont know if I'd vagabond. I would either settle in and rent an apartment for cheap (looked into it years ago it was like 300$ equivalent in US for the shittiest studios).

I just want to be somewhere else. I have so many bad memories in Florida and I have bad memories in Arkansas which is the only other state i will even consider going to.

There's no wrong reasons to travel friend.
One of the best parts is figuring it out as you go.

But to sum it all up. As soon as you have the money JUST BUY THE TICKET.

Don't listen to that idiot, Roppongi is fine to visit unless you're a pussy and can't handle a couple black guys speaking to you.

Hey everyone, new here - of course.

My friend and I (23 and 26 years old) will be heading to Tokyo at the end of March.
We will be in Japan for 2 weeks [March 29 - April12]. This is our first time travelling to Japan and for me personally it will be one of the larger trips I've taken, aside from moving across the country for work for a few months.
We already have our airbnb booked for every night near Matsudo station. We are planning on staying in Tokyo for most of the trip but are very interested in day trips here and there throughout the trip.

Any suggestions for how we should fill our days? or is it best to loosely plan and let your interest at the time take hold?
