The action was okay but I had no real reason to care about it. We all knew they would die, but that would work if we actually got invested in said characters, but I can't even remember their names. The only decent one was the robot dude because of his snark.

Also, if the Empire is this big feared galactic threat, why can an entire squad of them be taken out by a guy with a goddamn stick? They didn't really feel like a threatening presence. They were just there to make our heroes look cool.

Honestly the movie would have been better if it had focused on Jyn's dad. A man struggling with his own morality and trying to sabotage the weapon he made to save his family? It writes itself!

But no instead it's, "we're the generic resistance and we've got to take out the big bad superweapon."

It's the Fast and Furious of Star Wars; glitzy and visually entertaining but nothing to really get invested in. But in FF it works because it's so silly and over the top while Star Wars plays it up all super serious.
