Kobolds are communal so the whole tribe raises the hatchling. She knew her parents but they weren't really in a relationship or anything. Kobolds kind of fuck each other for fun and then go about their business. She was much closer to the tribe Hatcher (the kobold in charge of warming and hatching the eggs in the egg hut) and the Teachers, who taught stuff like climbing, hunting, religion, etc.

Sure! She already has, a few times, in fact. Pregnancy is no big deal to a kobold. Each female's heat is a different time each year so there is no sudden influx of pregnant females in the tribe. That way the few that /are/ with eggs can be pampered by the cookers and the helpers whose job it is to take care of the moms. Since heat comes only once or twice a year (depending on how fertile they are), females are pretty much encouraged to have kids as often as possible. It's a dangerous world out there, and a big tribe is a strong tribe.

Depends, the elders would decide. It would probably be given to the shaman of the Mountain Dragon to decide, and during the rituals of divination the stranger would probably go away. Kobolds are a bureaucratic lot despite their tribal organization. The elders have to decide on anything big. So if a furry shows up, it'll be discussion. If it's a kobold from another tribe, sure, come on in! That's how we get new blood in the mix, and how disputes are solved without violence, by just moving to another tribe. If it's a dragon though, we all make sacrifices and pray to be blessed with its seed to make magic genius babies.

My canon is extremely loose, not even a cohesive story other than two of the characters having a major rivalry for most of their lives. It's basically just barebones set dressing for a range of chars with magic abilities. Howl would be a somewhat major character lorewise but no more important than the others are ultimately.

She just seems way too amazing. First magic user ever - which means she becomes loved by everybody, leads a clan, is incredibly powerful, and sees into the future. So she freezes herself because she's done all the good she can in her own time and goes off to become even more amazing in the future. My first reaction was that she's Aang, but with every single flaw removed. One big thing is - why exactly does she need to freeze herself in the first place? With magic so new, wouldn't it make more sense for her to stay around and help start magical study and training instead of fast forward to where things are already pretty much figured out?

One or both of two things I think would be a good way to humanize her. Either make her power a source of fear and anger in the old time, so she freezes herself to avoid persecution. Or have her be much weaker than she thought compared to all the modern magic users when she gets out. The second one I think would make for a pretty interesting 'subversion' type story. She can still be powerful and helpful because of how much closer to the source of magic she is, but generations of study have refined the craft to be well beyond her. Skill beats will.

I actually like both your suggestions; I imagine the sudden arrival of magic in that era would lead to all kinds of chaos and problems, so it makes sense that she wanted to get away from those who feared her.

I also like the idea of her magic being weaker than "first witch ever" would suggest. Maybe she even froze herself accidentally while trying to fight off her persecutors in her time?

I think she'd work well as "the first witch, but even a low level modern witch can outclass her" but have her still be somewhat respected due to her story. Maybe a focus on how unrefined and wild her magic is compared to more organized and focused magic is in modern times...

Alright, here's a quick rewrite of the original summary:

Millions of years ago, during the dawn of the ice age, the first witch discovered her powers. By performing ritualistic dances and gestures, she could perform rudimentary spells and such. Naturally, her fellow cavefolk were absolutely terrified of her. After a year or two of her practicing magic, they cornered her in her den with the intent to kill. In a panic, she froze herself in a block of ice. Now, in modern times, a team of magic researchers have unearthed and thawed the cave-witch. Upon being freed, she laughed heartily and began threatening the researchers with her magic. Unfortunately for her, magic had come a long way since her time. They quickly backed her down and led her to the university they worked at. Now, the witch known as Howl lives in that university, still convinced her powers are far greater than that of modern magic users. Most people respect her status as the original witch and try to avoid showing their more advanced spells around her.

Actually, maybe you can help me with another character idea for the same setting?

Basically, she's the closest thing to an "antagonist" this setting has with its lack of story. She's a stage magician who claims that her tricks are actually spells and that her powers constitute a whole new "school" of magic. Obviously, the magic community are outraged at the implication that her often provocative performances are equivalent to the age-old schools of magic like Conjuring and the like. She revels in the controversy she causes and often antagonizes the magic users in my roster of characters, especially Madame Cordyllia, a respected, more traditional witch. Design wise, she's based on the famous "Schrodinger's Cat" experiment, being able to shift between a "Dead" and an "Alive" form with the aid of a box-shaped halo. The main focus of her personality and interactions is dancing around the question: is she actually magic or just a con artist?

Yes; since she lived in the Ice Age and is convinced she's more powerful than any modern person, she almost pities them, especially in the cold. That said, males had either be DTF or ready to resist her advances. She is a relic of prehistory, after all, and still has some animal instincts; particularly hunting and procreation~

I got a little list for a rambunctious America cheetah boy. Aiden, Dakota, Owen, Wyatt, Billy, Felix, Ryan, Dylan, Gabriel, River, Julian, Nathaniel, Oliver, Ian, Martin, Nicholas. Any of those any good? A couple of them have little stories, like River might be good because he has some native American blood and his parents are hippies that wanted to get in touch with their roots, but most of them are just because I like the sound. Open to suggestions. A couple I kind of like, but already eliminated are Chase, Wyatt, Leo, and a couple others.
