Wasn't it just a spaceport?
Treasure Planet deserves its cult status I think, though it's definitely a 7/10, tops.
The art direction is absolutely gorgeous, the score is catchy (although a bit dated),
and manages to tell a compelling father son story amidst a high fantasy space swashbuckler.
The first and second act are solid, but the third is kind of a mess, especially when B.E.N shows up. It wraps up nicely tho.
Then again, I love the corny 00's Disney, so I'm pretty biased.

You could literally write the exact same thing about Atlantis.
>See the film as a young teen.
>Fugg, I got to search that cat thing.
>No art anywhere, except for REALLY shitty stuff and screencaps taken from cam rips.
>Oh well, I'm sure some capable artist will draw her.
>Years pass, still ~10 pictures on the entire internet. I'll wait a bit longer.
>Year 2017, still marginal amount of art.
God fucking dammit.
My teenage self was horribly blueballed by the lack of sexy catlady art and situation hasn't exactly gotten better.
Imagine the amount of porn that would emerge if this movie came out now.
>>11580524
I agree on pretty much all of those points.
Fuck B.E.N and fuck whoever put that abomination into the movie. Terrible idea.
One of the studios that worked on Treasure Planet is making another movie.
I think they were responsible for animating Doppler.
It's called Klaus and you can definitely see some of the doctor's movements here.

It's because they had these big name writers like Brad Bird and Joss Whedon writing high concept sci fi movies for a 90mjn runtime. Titan A.E. comes to mind. They just never have time to flesh out their plots because they have to wrap up with a loud finale before the kids get bored. Pixar finds that comfy spot where it's well written, but it keeps the subject matter simpler. Atlantis had to distract kids from the Indiana Jones plot with a band of goofy, two dimensional stereotypes including a dirt addicted mole person.
>>11583279
Fuck I wish they had continued the story of Titan A.E. it would've been a good movie series.
>>11583380
Agreed, it's kind of a shitty movie, but it's charming with an interesting concept at it's core, kinda like Stargate. Would have been nice to see sequels.
>>11583380
The impending Drej attack on Planet Bob. Also more Stith legs pls.
>>11583279
Fuck you, Moliere was great!
>>11583750
Planet Bob IS the Drej.
The planet maker ship used them to make Bob.

>kinda like Stargate
Titan A.E. or Atlantis? Because the plot of Atlantis is so close to Stargate, it's scary. Milo even looks like a Daniel ripoff.
They're both movies that have a lot of valid criticism against them, but I don't care for one simple reason: They're original. The small kind of original, where it's all still normal enough to relate to. Plus, I'm a sucker for science fiction.
>>11578859
No idea, it's been years since I saw the movie.

>Let me make this as... monosyllabic for you as possible: I. Am. Hungry. I don't have time to be simply sitting here-- look at me! I'm positively wasting away! Come then, surely you've some rations worth splitting? You seem like the honest, caring, courageous, dependable sort... ... ...Oh, shut up, you know I don't mean a word of it. You can keep your flim-flam foolery for your own little floozies; I don't want your guff, I want your FOOD! Gmmnph... Ouugh, these churning guts of mine; they're so deucedly erratic! Oh, to be so wondrously full... How did I put it before? Like sailing a most wonderfulhhnnnnrrghh--*PHHWRRRPPPHHBBTT'PHHHWWRRGGHHT'PPHHBBLRRRBBPPHBBLRRRTT!* Aahn... There you go, poetry.
