Archeology is a science!

Some info on Trypticons Broken tail. A broken tail isn't as big an issue as you think. The tail can still extend and retract, but it will only be an issue to you if you have Dino base displayed with the tail section with no support under it and you want to display trypticon with the tail all the way up. The ship mode is unnafected since the feet clip on to the tail, you can woosh it all around without a care in the world (or until your arm gets tired).

Alright niggas, we know PotP is going to be combiner wars redeux and that it has Abominus, Predaking, and Dinobots. That leaves one more guy who can fit the scramble city format. Problem is he's a six man team where every member also becomes a target master. We also know that there's a sixth dinobot and he may be redecoed into Cindersaur, fillinf out the sixth legends class member from CW.

Do you think Hasbro will do Piranhacon? Is he worth doing at the standard combiner level? Should he be a Titan class set? Will we get all five limb guys at deluxe scale?

I subbed for one year, then they sold my credit card to Chinamen and I never subbed again. I ended up with Shattered Glass Drift, Runamuck and Runabout and the boxed set with Metalhawk in it.

The leaks only went thru 2018 and there's only 2 waves of each size class planned for 2019. That's enough time for the 7 Deluxes needed to complete the Decepticon, Autobot and Female Autobot teams.

The Voyagers will continue the CW pattern of adding torsos that do not have their own specific limbs. (Scattershot, Cyclonus and the white Optimus)

Hun-Grr and Grimlock still have redecos that will fit that bill. Deathsaurus and BW Megatron respectively are the most likely and easiest retools. Literally turn Hun-Grr around. His twin dragon heads become a tail. The tail becomes his head. Swap the direction of his legs, add wings and its a pretty minimal retool compared to Alpha Trion and Broadside.

With Optimus Primal, a BW Megatron is a natural retool for Grimlock.

Starscream is already getting retooled into Elita-1.

If we are getting Star Saber, Takara is definitely doing Victory Leo, whether there's a redeco planned or not. Hasbro will sell it somewhere as well.

The Leaders have two open slots for 2019. Star Saber and a new Megatron. The rocket pack for Saber will be retooled to be Galvatron. The Megatron tank will be all new.

Transformers Go figures. Japan exclusive version of Prime Beast Hunters. These guys can all form a head, torso, and legs, so they all got Katoki'd for the combined mode. They also made a beast trio for the decepticons and and a compatible train Prime.

Never got any of them so I can't comment on the quality, but I never had any interest in any of them due to the awkward proportions. Sadly, that's a limitation of having to make toys only for a Japanese market.

I do feel bad for hasbro. I still buy Takara when I can, but I know how important Hasbro is. Ultimately they're the ones who decide on a direction for the line.Their designers clearly have a lot of enthusiasm, they just have to deal with a lot more corporate bullshit than Takara.

I'm sure Hasbro execs are the reason we saw non-original headmasters in TR; they probably pushed for synergy with the recent 86 movie rerelease and the current comics. I think it has to do with how each company handles its market. Toys in the west have a way different stigma than in the east. Hasbro and Takara simply have to compromise for money. Selling to kids requires a cheaper product for parents to swallow, collector oriented means go hog wild. Both countries have different media to push it, or at least variations of the same media, and have different audiences of vastly different sizes. That's before we get into the old farts in charge of either company. It's a miracle Hasbro hasn't gone full mobile swindle on us yet.

Ultimately Transformers is just stuck in an incredibly unprecedented and complicated situation. Until we see how the toy market changes in the next ten years, we just have to judge each release from each company in a case-by-case base.

Sorta. I joined in the very first year because a Transformer Fan Club seemed like the coolest thing ever, and it had those neat articles about obscure vintage toys, or other things. But the comics didn't interest me, and that was like half the content of any given magazine, so it fell to the toys... and Skyfall is a pretty lousy first year exclusive. If you're not on board the "black paint apps on a dark blue translucent figure" with outbursts of non translucent hot red, then he's pretty awful. Here's a picture I took of him when I got him back then. Didn't feel that enthused, and money got tight so I never renewed.

Later, I rejoined to get Punch/Counterpunch. Nothing had really changed, and the website still felt time displaced from 1996. But I got Dion, and eventually Punch.

Dion was...ok. The Hot Rod mold is incredibly flawed, but the blue and orange contrast was really nice, and overall a pretty sharp toy.

Punch was infamous, since his undersized head wasn't known about until people were already receiving theirs. it's not AS bad in Sunstreaker mode, but Sideswipe mode's HUGE looking torso really does it no favors. It's an ambitious idea, but not one that "hey put a new head on an old toy" or FunPub's spotty success rate were made for.

I didn't rejoin after that. Kind of wanted the Only Human GI Joe toys and Melissa Faereborn, but I'm losing no sleep over not having those.

Cosmos' parts are incredibly swappable. You could swap the old head over to the new body if you want, but there are quite a few differences. The newer one is a darker shade of green (which looks much cheaper and less-shiny), the yellow is a brighter, more lemon-y shade, the Autobot badge is stupid tiny, the head is cast in red with only the visor and faceplate painted, and the visor is painted the same reflective color as the windows instead of its own shade of blue. The bits in the forearms are also yellow now. In my opinion the red bleeding through the yellow face paint isn't really that much of an issue.

Honestly? Just put some super glue on the crack. I bet it'll hold. Gorilla brand, if you can find it. I used that shit to repair a ball joint on a Grimlock model kit once. It's still holding strong, and there's a lot of stress put on it.

Depends what it's used for. If the part is something that needs to be repeatedly exposed to friction and not deform or wear out, diecast is a good choice. Much like the long support for MP Laserwave's gunbarrel.

Just because the diecast on one figure is shit doesn't mean it always is. Using diecast to make something intricate like a joint is retarded. The bigger problem with diecast on G1 Transformers was that it was so much stronger than the surrounding plastic, it transferred all stress and broke everything else. I certainly don't like it in great quantities, but I've never broken any diecast parts. Then, I've never broken any of my toys at all, but whatever.

I took the headmaster removal out of the equation and just made the whole neck assembly rotate. Now he's an optional headmaster which I think is the way it should be.

How niche are Transformers in Japan? What kind of people there seem to buy them?

One more thing about TR Windblade. Again, I do still like her but I have noticed that the weight of the backpack is very easily tipped over. If I put her blades into their designated slots on the backpack it's enough that it becomes much harder to pose her; I either have to have them out on her wings or in her hands to balance her back out, or just omit them. It's a shame, too, because putting them on her back makes them look good, but she's very nose-heavy.

The Renderform kit is probably the best non-printed Galvatron kit, but for some reason he didn't think to make it not partsform, which was one of >>6503671's complaints.

I mean, since they can't actually mate or even have sex (presumably?) it probably doesn't really matter to them who they pair bond with, right? So being a non-repoductive robotic race, they're kind of all potentially pansexual AND asexual. Can anything be gay or straight when there's no biological imperative for pairing up in a binary way? Plus, aren't the femmes just another subset of Cybertronians stemming from Solus Prime, just like the bots are from Prima, and beastformers are from Onyx Prime? So not even a "gender" at all.

It's not quite that. The different colonies all stem from different primes, and you're right about the Beastformers. They have their quirks, but being female isn't one of them. Apparently all the female cybertronians just died, or stopped existing at some point, or something. It's been a point of contention on the writing staff which is why they keep having to go back and do damage control on it.

See: Arcee being crazy because Jhiaxus made her a her without consent to introduce gender to the species, basically her being a crazy tranny, which people didn't like at all, so they backpedaled saying it was what she was supposed to be all along and Jhiaxus was just reintroducing genders to cybertron, and then it was vague-ified further that she's just fucking crazy from the torture, but maybe she's still trans? It's blurry and kinda dumb and depends on who's writing.

The gay stuff doesn't bother me nearly as much as their attempts at approaching the subject of transgender, because they've all been hamhanded as hell. Like the other anon said, when you have a 1:Millions female:male ratio, some gayness is expected assuming relationships can happen, and since Airrazor and Tigatron are a thing, we know that's possible. That stuff only grinds on me when they get too hammy about it and drag out the drama more than necessary.

The Blast Off/Onslaught thing, for instance, is commonly overblown here. The pages people post are from a saccharine dream sequence Starscream was using to tempt Blast Off by promising he could brainwash Onslaught into liking him back (assuring him he's only "tweaking" him a bit). In the real world Onslaught has been more or less normal but you know there's a reckoning coming on that plot point eventually.
