Any of you guys is now paying the price to own rare and complete G1 transformers just because like me, you love a particular character or modern toy and want to own the origins?

Old thread >>6417319
>>
>>6420978
No, because I like to play with my mode changing plastic robots
>>
>>6420978
As a child of the 80s, I still have some of my G1 stuff (mostly late G1, and then the reissues during G2)
With the past few years revamping a lot of G1, there's really only a small handful I still want.
Scorponok and Trypticon. The new Trypticon is pretty nice, but A) it doesn't walk, and B) I can really only justify one $100+ transformer purchase every few years, unless I go an entire year without purchasing any. So if I bite the bullet on Tryp, and then they announce scorp for next year or the year after, I'm fucked.

My more recent G1 purchases were powermaster Optimus Prime and Galvatron, neither of which I paid more than 50 to get them complete.
>>
>>6420978
Nah, I love G1 concepts and designs, but their execution was limited by their budgets and enginery, thats one of the main reasons why I love TR.

I'm a poor nostalgia fag, so I just stare from afar.
>>
>>6421006
That feel gives me suicidal tendencies.
>>
>>6420978
I'm in my 20s man. I don't have nostalgia for G1. Beast Wars maybe.
>>
How much of Nitro Zeus's nosecone is rubber/soft plastic?
>>
>>6421027
No one has it yet. I don't think you should stick it up your butt either way.
>>
>>6420978
I've been trying to get a Master Force collection started. G1 us the only way to get six of the main Pretenders so far. It's also pretty reasonable since they aren't very popular.

Complete Power Masters are more than most 3rd party toys. The Headmaster Jrs aren't much better. But they're still my best shot at getting those characters.

I'm not really going for scale, just some representation of the cast. I've got a couple of God Ginrais. The actual original mold was reissued a couple of times the past decade, so it will be my display piece. When it comes out, the Maketoys Thunder Manus to mess with.

There's a KO of Browning that is pretty reasonable. That's a great classic mold.

The reissued Seacons are a great display piece as well.

The Titans Return or Takara Legends Overlord will more than satisfy my desire for the character.

I'll go 3rd Party for my Sixknight, Black Zarak and Grand Maximus. The 3P Sixknight just looks better for a quarter the price. Iron Factory Black Zarak and Toyworld Grant are decent substitutes for the G1 molds.

There were licensed action figures made of Ginrai and Minerva. Those are part of this collection too.

I really regret spending all that money on Scorponok and Overlord, but they were holy grails at the time.
Hopefully I'll get my shit together soon so I can start selling stuff.

Uh? If you look closely at the picture, I'm not a MISB faggot. Also, no one is made out of gold plastics. When I buy a super expensive G1, I make sure and can safely transform it back and forth and go PEW PEW PEW without worry.

The unplayable Transformers that are too fragile is a MODERN thing. I gave my local geek shop the Disney Label "bumblebee" Donald Duck because of that. Shit look like is made out of glass.

The G1 are TOYS. Meant to be played with. And even though Chromedome look like a total derp, it's very simple and fun to transform and go so well whit his TR incarnation.

Got Nitro Zeus and Hot Rod yesterday.

Believe the hype on Nitro, he's pretty great. Reminds me of the ROTF days.

Hot Rod's meh. I'd like him better if he came with weapons, right now I just got him holding Hound's tiny miniguns underslung.

Even if you have no nostalgia for G1 because you are too young, you can still find some unexpected fun treasures.

G1 Optimus Prime have been reissued more times than cockroaches can reproduce so he's easy and relatively cheap to obtain. He's also one of the best early G1 figures. Also, the first generation of G1 had diecast all over so they are quite hefty and satisfying to handle.

If you love oddballs transformers the Pretenders are very fun. If you don't care about the missing gun or armor piece, the price can be reasonable and you may have some fun and laugh at the concept of a minibot hiding in a human/monster shell.
>>
>>6421165
The G1 Prime KO is $40, and while it has some tiny flaws(wheels don't always roll well) it's better shape than a beat up G1 original and doesn't have short stacks like the Hasbro reissues.

At this point, if you don't own a G1 Prime, you don't want one.

The only reason I can't suggest an Ultra Magnus over Prime is that... well, face it, that thing only looks good from the front, and the shoulder rockets aren't evenly aligned. More play value form the combination doesn't totally balance it being a poor display piece.

Sold my childhoods G1 Apeface (100% complete) years ago in my early TF collecting days for 85$CAN because it was yellowed and had a loose ape-arm ratchet.

Years of regrets later I recently bought a complete (but in great condition) Apeface for 180$CAN, counting shipping and customs.

Sigh...
>>
>>6421170
>It almost feels like they do it on purpose so parents will buy new ones for their kids

It's not really that- Hasbro still thinks kids will "lose interest in a year" and more or less sees the collectors/fans as almost a tertiary market so they get cheap on production, it's the same with all their lines and many other companies. Material and transit costs did go up in recent years, albeit not to the point of some of the retail price hikes we've had so companies have cut costs and raised prices, but with primary sales to kids/parents not being affected, they don't have to give a shit if the fans complain. Hell, the fans are still buying it regardless. Complaints mean shit if sales are strong enough.

I feared it might just explode in my hands. But amasingly, I don't think he's made out of the usual Gold Plastics. It even feel rubbery. I dared to transform and pose him several times and so far, nothing is broken! It's amazing. Also, Vroom and Crossblades are so bad, so ugly, that I can't help but love them!
Aslo, my local G1 source took random shit in trade and gave me two of my holy grails. G1 Bludgeon and Thunderwing! Those two are amazing and it amaze me more that I was able to get them in one feel swoop!

Now if only G1 Sky Shadow was not 2000$...

Speaking about pre-millenium figures, I'm totally in love with how simultaneously stupid and awesome this Convoy looks. The whole shellformer thing doesn't even bother me, those horns look absurdly menacing in robot mode and the fact that we actually got a fucking mammoth Prime is ridiculously cool enough by itself.

Anyone around here owns this beast? Is it worth 60 euros (about ~70 dollars) MISB on Ebay?

Eh, that might be true for post-cartoon figures like Pretenders / Headmasters / Turbomasters / etc. but if you're into the really early figures, like Dialcone-based ones and season 1/2 releases, you will find that they're the most delicate and fragile things ever made. Just a few days ago I decided to play around a little with my Encore Jazz after leaving it on display for maybe two or three months and apparently that was enough for his rifle post to get stuck inside the peg, to the point where pulling it out basically broke the post. Might be because of the terrible vaccum metalized plastic, which is unfortonately something almost every single early G1 figure has.

Still, I do love collecting vintage figures, and it's neat to see them being discussed in /tfg/. Hopefully I'll get pic related one beautiful day.

OP here. I went to my local geek store today and I unloaded a HUGE quantity of random transformers. Most were not worth mentioning but I did gave Alternity Optimus and Megatron, and Beast Wars Big Convoy as the TFs with the most value. I also gave the Revoltech Queen's Blade Ymir and Noah, having lost interest in those. It was still two HEAVY bags of random Transformers for the most part.

Anyway, tose toys given gave me over 400$CAN in store credits so I finally got back the last lost Transformers from my childhood, G1 Defensor!

And because I love the Combiner Wars version so much, I also got G1 Computron.

And I just had to add an extra 40$ in cash to get an unplanned and unexpected G1 Transformers, Doublecross A.K.A Twinferno!

Everything in perfect shape and 100% complete of course! I'm happy as child on Xmass day!

And because
>>
>>6422200
I like the A3 version of him a lot.

He's like half the reason I got the LG Ultra Magnus.

Man, if I could slap the little brat I was when I got rid of Defensor... I hated G1 Scramble City combiner because the latest I had were the Seacons reissue and RiD Ruination. Both felt incredibly cheap, like some KOs.

But Defensor is the real deal, with diecast parts and everthing. It's solid and I think he hold up even today.

Computron was a "why not" purchase. I planned instead to get G1 Dreadwing & Darkwing, but those Powermasters have their gimmicks so flawed from the get-go that they were a pain to fiddle with. Also, breakage risks everywhere. So, nope.

So, how is Computron? MARVELOUS! Stattershot is worth the price of admission by himself! The thing is BIG, even in vehicle mode. So big in fact, why bother combining? Also, the transformation of all the bots gave me some serious surprises in how clever they were designed.

No regrets at all.

>>6422348

And finally, the unexpected find, Doublecross.
Because my TR Triggerhappy came with two right "sled guns", making combining them impossible, I complained to Hasbro. A few hoops jumped through later and I got in the mail a random TR Twinferno. I found that figure to be ugly, stupid, and derpy. I even thought of getting rid of it. Still, I kept it in the end just for the novelty.

Having some cash left in store credit, I found the original, G1 Doublecross and even though the TR is trash in dragon mode, the G1 look FANTASTIC! Plus, his stickers were perfect and even the spaks gimmick still work.

Having played with it I can confirm that unlike G1 Chromedome and G1 Highbrow, G1 Doublecross is clearly the superior toy compared to TR Twinferno.

This is a really random question, but can anyone confirm if Universe Ravage (the one that came with Hound) can fit in the tape deck of a G1 Soundwave? Contemporary reviews all say that he does, but they were all using the double-deck Soundblaster mold that was used for the reissues of Soundwave, not the original mold that only holds one tape at a time. >>6422667
Part of the issue is that waves are budgeted by case and not figure which must make deciding who gets how many paint apps and what ones pretty fraught. Brainstorm and Trypt on the other hand fill up cases by themselves so it's an even split per figure, pretty simple to balance that budget.
Let's assume Brainstorm is 8 per case at the same wholesale price as a normal non-exclusive deluxe, his tooling costs are spread over 8 figures per case instead of the normal 2 which would make them cheaper per unit, the same is true of his packaging so there's savings there though probably negligible ones, this all leaves more room in the budget for his paint apps. Pretty easy to understand when you think of it like that
>>
>>6422724
I would just go for that one for the same reason but I also wanted to have the Chromedome faceplate to [spoilerson/toy/could] give to my bad guys to use as a brainwashing tool while another headmaster used that transtector because I am autistic like that and still play with my toys [safeguardpostersfromtheirownautism/].

>>6422736
2 things
1) the high price will likely keep out some of the bronies, not to mention bronies tend to support fan created content far more than official content
2) the pricing isn't that ridiculous, as a veteran convention goer I can say that, while high, for an event with such a large corporate backing, the price is only mildly high. A quick glance at the schedule also shows you that, much like a lot of comic conventions, there's a lot of repeat panels, i.e. the bulk of attendees will just be buying single day passes.
60 bucks for a single day pass isn't that high, comic con charges 55, and pretty much any industry heavy event will be charging at least 50 for a day price.
It's more that the 3 day passes at other shows tend to have larger discounts than 10%, usually it's closer to 30%
>>
>>6422768
>60 bucks for a single day pass isn't that high, comic con charges 55, and pretty much any industry heavy event will be charging at least 50 for a day price

Holy fucking shit I didnt know what the price for HasCon was and why people were calling it expensive but that's nothing compared to what larger anime cons are and what Dragoncon charges. You guys are spoiled compared to trying to go to those events.

Why do people honestly bother? It's a massive waste of money. Everything will be seen online. It's not like they're SELLING what they're showing off then and there as some kind of early bird exclusives or anything, and anything being sold there outside of some shitty, overpriced repaints (aka: "con exclusives") will easily be available from the comfort of your own home, and for less than you'll get it at a con most likely.

For those complaining about the price of the ticket, do mind that a convention usually rent a WHOLE building. Often something huge and glamorous. Montréal's Comiccon is held at Palais Des Congres, THE biggest place in town save for the Olympic Stadium. Even then, there is still around 50 official sponsors.

Also, a corporation whole reason to exist is to make money. Not to suck your dick.

And finally, there is a way to get the 3 day pass for "free". Volunteer to work there! I did a panel myself. That.s a whole 45 minutes of work relatively paid 80$CAN. Yeah, you do have to be selected from the applicants but eh, try it.

By the way, last year at Montréal's Comiccon, we had Peter Cullen. This year we have Knight Optimus Prime.

Oh yeas you can sit in Optimus. Like the 60's Batmobile or any other vehicles, 20$CAN can get you a picture with you inside... And the picture is taken with your own camera.

I have no idea of your chances. Newcomers may have a harder time coming in, but if you have proven your worth once, it's easier to get selected again. I've been doing a TF panel two years in a row in fact and it's the only reason I was able to enjoy the 'cons.

Because I'm a cheap-ass who would only come for the small Friday, when it's only 25$CAN to get in instead of the BIG Saturday that is 55$CAN.

By the way, pic related was my Day one Comiccon haul. I was already broke and that Zii statue from the webcomic Ménage-à-trois was 100$CAN and ate most of my budget. Still, the original creator of the webcomic was there and she sighed it for me.

Sigh, if only I didn't spent so much in random shit before going....

>>
>>6422875
Conventions usually offer best prices for products, since you're usually not paying taxes or shipping.
You also get to see toys you'd never see in person and decide right then and there that they're worth your money.

So even if their prices are the same price as amazon, bbts or amiami, you're getting a better deal anyway.

And yes, while things can usually be seen online later, a lot of things never show up or are only partly shown.
Most photographs of objects also don't show all the details you can actually see for yourself in person. It's like how people think prototypes are pristine and perfect or how people hate Mezco's cloth on their figures.
Seeing shit for yourself makes a huuuuuge difference.

Then there's seeing shit outside of your normal zone of interests, which will expand on what you like.

Plus, its fun to go out and meet new people and go to panels.

That anon is just taking pot shots anyway, the claims keep getting tweaked, I'm glad no one is taking notes so that faggot doesn't get any credit bar gullible forum posters taking anything we say seriously.

Going by Takara's record with LG Ginrai prime, if what anon is saying about PoP is true (same titanmaster without the head plate that plugs into spot to give gimmie weapons), it is very likely Takara pull another one by adding parts to open up the stomach guns and canon on the pretty much empty space TR overlord torso.

Alleged info on the Bumblebee standalone movie toyline, from an older thread:

>Maybe half of the line consists of different movie Bumblebee variants. It seems like he's going to have at least half a dozen of different alt modes in the film, there was everything from a classic Beetle to some 1980s sports car and even a cropduster.

>Saw a few other car Autobots with generic names. One was a red muscle that does remind me of the recent alleged set pics, and it wasn't called Cliffjumper. No Decepticons in the line iirc, and probably none in the movie either.

>Like AOE and TLK, most of it is centered around fast transforming kiddie figures plus a few simplified Deluxes / Voyagers. The paintjobs looked slightly improved but not necessarily on a pre-DotM tier.

>Was also told that the entire toyline was specifically aimed at younger kids, although they're still considering to release improved versions of some of the molds in a Generations-like premium subline, probably for a significantly higher collector-grade price.

PotP leaker here, haven't seen anything Bee-related but I can confirm this. Hasbro wants to put out a short line of improved Bayverse molds between Bumblebee and the 6th film, basically like Takara's "Movie The Best" line.

The IDW comics actually did something close to that years ago. They thought they turned Chuckles over to them after years of effort and grooming.

The rest of the staff who actually did all the work offered to buy them out so they could carry on running the convention, but they didn't want to give up the name. Bought TR Topspin yesterday because I actually found him, and I'm thinking Takara probably won't release him because he was never in the cartoon.

I like him a lot. His alt. mode is pure sex, but his bot mode is kind of bland. The white plastic on his chest and legs is cheap and milky as fuck and washes out all the detail, which is one of the biggest reasons I was hoping for a Takara release. The underside of his wings are super ugly, too, so I tend to pop them off and swap them around whenever I transform him. His torso seems a little sparse, but it's not bad.

There's none. Tidal Wave was the most selfless and dedicated decepticon and the only one Megatron could trust at all because he was, unlike Demolishor and Cyclonus, both competent and loyal.
Nobody would rely on someone like IDW Tidal Wave.

Fuck, it was almost as they needed to give him a random crippling personality flaw only so he wouldn't just bulldoze everything in his path.
>>
>>6424247
All I'm reading here is "NOT MUH". Besides, IDW isn't Armada. Soundwave already fills the "most selfless and dedicated Decepticon.

>>
>>6424263
I really am complaining more about the cheap way used to make him useless. Cheap is bad even in a fucking Captain Tootsie short.
The most appealing thing about Tidal Wave was how scary he was and that he seemed unstoppable which coupled to his loyalty gave Megatron a ridiculous advantage until the next power creep; people are going to expect that from Tidal Wave.
If you can't write a not stupid way to prevent a really powerful character from short-circuiting your comic book or subvert expectations just don't put that character in your comic book.

I believe if you rotate then slightly crop the photo, it should fix it.

Basically, with the basic editing a phone does, just rotating simply swaps some sort of flag int he file for rotation that only the phone sees. If you crop it slightly, it forces a rewrite of the pixels at the new orientation.

This is still a working theory.
>>
>>6424788
Phones store photos in landscape orientation by default with the home button on the right. It then stores the intended orientation in the metadata (0 deg, 90 deg, etc.). Posting on 4chan strips the metadata. You just need a photo editor that doesn't rely on the metadata's orientation.
