For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

So I left the vote up, and both lines won. So:

Frame Arms Group Build

This time the idea is to build any Frame Arms, or Frame Arms Girl kit, and paint and customize it.

The rules are overall pretty simple, the base must be recognizable as FA or FA Girl, other than that there's no limit on what you can do.

Due Date: September 1st

Note: This is a prize build, there will be a prize provided by me, there will also be a mystery prize provided by another anon. That means that to enter, I need WIP pictures submitted before the due date. Simply email me some pictures of you working on it, I don't care at what point, as long as it's possible to tell where your final product came from.

Prize Pack:
MSG Free Style Bazooka
MSG Impact Knuckle
MSG Beast Sword
MSG Assault Rifle #2
Miscellaneous supplies

I'm probably going to add more, but I'll let those be a secret.

Email: [email protected]

I'm also available via IRC and Steam.

This is way cool, but I really don't like my RG Mk.II much, despite how much everyone else seems to love it. The frame is scarily tight, and I feel like things are always falling off it. And after people told me this was actually the most STABLE RG, I knew this series wasn't for me.

Now, if it was the HGUC Mk.II in these colors, I'd be all over it.
>>
>>6366155
Or you sprayed in a bad temperature, or in a place that was too windy, or any number of other factors. To me it just looks like you sprayed for too long and too close though. Watch some tutorials or read the guide in OP post and learn to spraypaint properly. You can always do better next time.
>>
>>6366194
There are tons. Super Robot Wars, Armored Core, Votoms, ZOE, Zoids, Patlabor, Macross, Virtual On, Frame Arms, Muv Luv, MGS, etc. etc. etc. The world of plamo is HUGE and you can always find cool new robots to build.

I dunno why you don't want a franchise attached, but hey, just pretend there isn't one and build kits. I mean shit, I've never watched any of the anime or played the games my kits come from. They effectively don't exist to me.
>>
>>6366250
>There are Armored Core model kits

THIS
CHANGES
EVERYTHING

Honestly, I just don't like a lot of the designs in Gundam. There are a lot of cool designs in it too, but I want something that's not immediately recognizable as Gundam. A friend of mine and I are considering using these for tabletop gaming, too, so we kind of want to use stuff that's a little different and easily slipped in to a tabletop war game.
>>
>>6366250
I think I'm going to go with this one for my first model. The reviews said that it's a perfect beginner model and I liked the way it's shaped.

I think I'll recolor it though. Just to get some practice on painting.
>>
>>6366292
I've heard it has some issues, so....take that as you will. You might want to look at a few of the more negative reviews and identify said issues before pulling the trigger. It also relies heavily on stickers, but I guess if you're painting it anyway that isn't as big of a deal.

That said, most Iron Blooded Orphans kits are generally great, they're cheap, and most of them don't look too Gundam-y.

>>
>>6366294
That was really good advice. Thanks.

I went back and looked at the negative reviews and luckily, all of them are things that I'm okay with. Stickers, no core frame, creaky joints. Luckily, I'm going to work around these things for my use.

The only thing I found concerning was that one reviewer mentioned that the white piece on the chest isn't present on his model? Is this just a matter of recoloring, or is it physically not accurate to the picture on the box?

>>6366297
Well, I do have a FUCKHUGE table, but not one THAT big. I think I'll stick to 1/100 and 1/144 for that.

>>6366307
No, the white part is there. You should be aware though that a lot of plamo are inaccurate to the box and require painting to look like that. This has been improving in recent years, but it's still not perfect, and sometimes we get total stinkers.

Anyway, here. Right is stickered up, left is what it looks like without.
>>
>>6366310
When I was a kid, I think I built a Tallgeese model. It looked really cool on the box and when I finished it, it looked like poop. I realized that I was going to have to paint it.

I'm just gonna throw the stickers out, I think. I'm thinkin' of doing a sort've desert paint job on him. I need practice painting, for sure. This will be a good test to determine whether I'll really be in to this.

I hate how the Guison Rebake looks in 1/100. It looks so much more plasticky than everything else in the line.

Vidar looks mint though, can't wait to make mine.

>>6366316
Why don't you try panel lining the kit before painting to see if you get the desired look without 90% of the work? Just use a fineliner or a mechanical pencil if it's white.

Really? That's surprising. I have the Full City 1/144 and the orange parts on the head are stickers instead of parts. Same goes for the arrows on the knees. Baffling.

I might pick up the 1/100 at some point and paint it up since I think the material just looks awful, but my FM backlog is huge right now and I can't justify adding to it.

Yeah dude, the 1/100 looks fine and has pretty nice color separation. It doesn't look "plasticky" either, at least not more so than the others.

I would have bought it already if not for their infuriating "choose one" gimmick. I would MUCH rather have preferred to pay $10-15 more for a second frame in the box.
>>
>>6366351
I can't see clearly -the toes on the Lupus Rex aren't stickers, are they?
I'm already gonna have to pull out some paint for the claws, they look fantastic yellow. Will probably use black for the panel lines to preserve the harsh look of it too.

Tamiya, Mr. Color, etc.

Topcoats intended for modeling tend to be smoother and flatter. Stuff like krylon is more for large craft projects although it is a cheap alternative if there's nothing else.

Tamiya, mr.superclear, or testors dullcoat are all better if you're looking at spraycans.

Thanks. I felt like it came out pretty good.
If you mean on the red, it's metallic paint. It's got the slightest texture to it and some metal flakes. The navy is somewhat flat, and the gold is hand painted. I was doing a lot of new stuff for me. So I expected some small mistakes.

Will say I almost hate that the core lander is hidden away inside of it. I liked how the colors came out.

Hi-Mock, any of the Revive kits, HG Grazes, HGUC GMs, stuff like that. All cheap, all easy to build.

Basically what the guy replying to you in the other thread said. Heck a lot of the HMM Zoids weapons are not too compatible with each other, especially the Cannon and Buster Tortoise whose weapons are built into the shell turret to some degree. It is definitely possible to kit bash it though, just be aware it is such a huge gun there will be some sort of support arms needed to be built onto the gunpla in question to support the thing.

But yes, the cannon is very awesome and was fun to put together. Leg armor pops off very easily, but there is not much need for awesome articulation when it is just a turtle, one with a cannon on the shell. The fact it is a tortoise with a cannon renders a lot of downsides moot. Also it can tuck its head up into the shell and fit in the palm of my hand.

if you order one at a time, you'll be safest.
I live in London and I've imported a bunch of MGs and IBO 1/100s, and haven't (yet) been slapped with customs, despite amiami showing 2400 yen on the box.
If you go through Banzai Hobby they usually value it at 980 to make it easier through customs, and sometimes they throw in a couple of cheap Japanese treats too.

As someone who came to love EW Wing Zero before knowing anything about Gundam, my favourite (and perhaps the only thing I like about it) aspect is that semi-restored/raw machinery.

If this was another story, this would either be a mech that was in the middle of being restored, the main body having been focused on, but its true potential has yet to be finished with the wings.

It looks very lovingly restored at that, like someone was trying their desperate best to mimic its former majesty with modern technology that just couldn't get on the same level as whatever ancient craftsmanship originally graced it.
>>
>>6367679

>only a portion of gunpla are actual gundams.
I don't just mean "Not Gundam", I also mean things that are immediately recognizable as part of the Gundam series. I always like "generic" or "unique" shit.

>I'd recommended looking at the Iron Blooded Orphans line
This is the very first place I started looking. While I found most designs from other Gundam series to be gaudy or otherwise not to my liking, the Iron Blooded Orphans series is exactly what I'm looking for. I ordered two model kits immediately, and I'm going to do custom jobs on both to where they will hardly be recognizable.

>15mm? What system are you using?
I have no idea what you're asking. I'm a complete and utter trash-noob. I don't know what system I'm using. I didn't even know there were "systems" to use. Educate me...

Hello and good evening.

Since having free money and not being in touch of gunpla market (no national shops here for it) for at least 1,5 years, any suggestions for what to get?

Planning to get: 3-4 1/100 MG kits, 6-8 1/144 HG kits.

Thank you in advance
>>
>>6368071
So you want to tell us what you're into or do you just want baseless suggestions shouted at you?
>>
Waterslide question:

The decal location goes over an actual bump in the model(some sort of air vent or something)

I have dealt with curves and valleys before, but never a bump. Anything special for how to lay it down?
>>
>>6368100

Honestly, Go for baseless.

Except Gundam Build Fighters. I don't like them for some reason...
>>
>>6368104
Any of the MGs are fine except the victory's, G reco kits are almost universally garbage unless you want to do anything besides snap em. Conversely all the IBO kits are superb in terms of nub and seam placement.
>>
>>6368104
Like, any of the HG IBO kits are pretty nice, the Grazes in particular. For MGs...shit, I haven't built any recently, but MG AGE-1 Normal is fun.

>>
>>6368102
You're going to need decal softener. Other than that it's same as usual, barring more fiddling than usual to get it to line up right.
>>
>>6367809
It came out when Bandai was in the thick of their MG experimentation phase. As you might have figured out from the other replies, they tried to have the armor attach on with double sided tape instead of clicking on, presumably to see if they could save on engineering costs.

Needless to say it didn't work out: the tape will lose strength eventually. But the kit itself is perfectly fine, it's hard not to be when you're based off the Gundam 2.0. Unless you have a real hardon for being able to take the armor off, just glue the armor parts on and you're good to go.
>>
>>6366981

I recognize some of the parts..

Wing Zero is the mech

4x MG Gundam Astray Blue Frame D BFS for wings.

The main cannon seems to be one of the Zeta variants

MG Gundam Epyon EW Ver. Legs have been used along with its Heat Rod used as a tail.

I think i might have missed some...
>>
>>6368187

Finding a creative way to work around a seam line feels so good. Almost makes you feel like you're a good modeler. Just need to seam weld the white parts of the forearm now. I'm still wondering what I'll be doing with the grey and white pieces of the waist skirts since that doesn't look like I can do something similar like I did here.
>>
>>6367242

The left are the modified pieces and the right are the original. I cut the pegs in the frame and the big white bridge in the armor because there's a nasty seam at a weird location in the forearm armor. Once I seam weld it like this, I'll be able to just slide in the frame and probably have to glue it in to secure it. I also cut the tabs on the elbow armor because it was previously sandwiched between the white pieces, but now I can just plug it in after inserting the frame into the white armor.

And I figured out what to do with the waist armor. I cut the peg and inserted magnets so I can still slide in the grey piece and rotate it, but now I'll be able to fix the seam line running down the length of the white pieces and save masking hell.

>>
>>6368453
Are you planning to paint the black part? If not, I don't really see the need to detach it before seam welding.

I would also be careful with magnets as they may not be able to carry the load when the kit is fully assembled.
>>
>>6368499
I've got a Sterilite drawer set I bought at Walmart for like $10 that holds the vast majority of my supplies (what's strewn on my work table aside).
>>
>>6368559
Yes, I am, with the mentioning of avoiding a lot of odd masking.

The magnets did feel strong enough previously, but after super gluing them in, I have a feeling that was the wrong choice. The magnets are now repelling each other. I can't find any specific adverse effects from super glue, but it looks like two-part epoxy should've been used for something like this instead. Fuck. Well, I guess I can work around this and just glue/cement it in place come final assembly.

>>6369100
Depends, it's more realistic to use the pastel weathering after a top coat and leaving it as is but then you run into the problem of scratching it off if you change the pose unless you do another topcoat but then it homogenizes the surface. I'd also recommend a gloss coat before applying decals and panel lines then going over it with matte.

That's not true. Bandai controls the mecha designs they can do whatever the fuck they want. There was JUST a P-Bandai Zeta Plus C1 HGUC. Model Graphix controls story and characters
>>
>>6369081
The only thing preventing an Ex-S 2.0 is now niche the design is. It's popular amongst the real enthusiasts, but for the vast majority of the audience it's just the series with really cluttered design.

As a general rule, if it would have made a massive profit Bandai would have already made it. Katoki is like the only person with the power to just make whatever he wants, and that's on the strength of his name alone. And even he focuses more on the bigger names these days; I doubt we'll ever see something as random as MG Ball again.

This.

I mean they did a RD Ka Signature EX-S a few months ago and the standart is coming out. Banrise owns the Gundam likeness and you can't really beat them on that matter in court if Banrise really cared. The RD Mk V is also coming out in a month
>>
>>6369563
Origin kits are solid.
Want a Zaku? Have a billion of them. now with more parts separation and panel lines.
Want a Dom? Have a proto-Dom.
Want sweet looking early-UC prototypes? Grab a Waff or a Bugu.
Want a Guncannon? There's one with a V-fin now.
Want a Gundam? Take your Local Type and be forever mad that the Aqua Gundam is P-Bandai.
Want slightly "non-robot" robots? Grab a Guntank or a Mobile Worker.

Also check out AGE suits. AGE's Feddie grunts are pretty slick and well-articulated, and the Vagan suits are basically bipedal robot dinosaurs.
>>
>>6369567
I only have the Guncannon. It looks nice and is extremely flexible, but doesn't have a lot of accessories.

>Derringer "I don't know where people are getting this from, but that's not true at all.
They have been re-issuing all the HGUC, MG Zeta Plus, S-Gundam, EX-S, FAZZ fairly regularly. They even just did a P-Bandai HGUC Zeta Plus C1 Type recently too."

>Plebbit Poster "Bandai doesn't own the rights to AoZ dengeki hobby does. There's nothing bandai can do unless some kind of deal is struck between the two."
> Derringer "This is a misinterpretation. Sunrise has control over all the mecha which allows Bandai to make and reproduce products at will. There has been loads of Sentinel and aoz items released just within the past year.
The story and characters however belong to dengeki and model graphyx respectively."

and just for fun because I'm sick of seeing "Hurr Bandai own Sunrise"

>Plebbit doodoohead "Just so you know Sunrise is a subsidiary of Bandai Namco, basically Bandai owns enough of Sunrise's voting stock to control management & operation of the company."

>Derringer "This is misleading, the actual Japanese toy company Bandai Co.LTD that makes merchandise is in much the same way, just another company under the Namco-Bandai umbrella.
Bandai, the toy company, doesn't own Sunrise. Namco-Bandai the giant holding group owns both Bandai the toy company and Sunrise the animation studio.
In this sense the toy company Bandai and Sunrise are sister companies that do not interfere in each other's activities."

All things considered there are a surprisingly decent number of STG kits out there, especially if you're willing to dive into the painfully elusive world of GKs.

For official releases, there's 1/144s for 3 different STG series from Kotobukiya alone (RayStorm, DoDonPachi, Ikaruga) a 1/100 R-9A and a non scale Twinbee from PLUM. For GK's, 13b/specters is probably the most well known producer.

Dendrobium fag here. Finished test snap fit. Gonna need to send down some parts more due to overly tight fitting, but next step is to disassemble the sections for the base.

Will then sand down parts for the sections, prime and paint larger pieces that don't need seem welding and reassemble and seem weld the other pieces. Finally will prime those parts and paint.

(Only parts that REALLY require the disassemble are the mechanical parts due to inner workings I can't get to while outer armor is on)

The winner does look a bit bad...kinda like someone literally blew their load on an MS. The church and bricks should have been painted and weathered too, in bare white it looks cheap.

Also, can someone explain the concept of the jelly block entry? I'm so confused. Is the Zaku supposed to be underwater? If so, it appears to have been there for a while, seeing as it's buried. Why is the GM hovering above it shooting at it? It's also kind of badly done even from a modeling perspective, the acrylic block looks cheap and crappy and he should have sculpted and painted waves on the surface.

In a bi-annual local modeling convention run and attended primarily by old military and car modelers, this won not only the best in sci-fi category, but people's choice and best in show.

I've found that its not just the lack of interest in gunpla or mecha models, its more that they don't give a rats ass about anything without obvious effort put into it.

>>
>>6371813
Yes and no, trying to prime over red with white primer will recover multiple coats to completely get rid of the color. Though honestly you're just doing it to create a foothold for paint to adhere and to find blemishes.

Either one, it really just depends on preference. Acrylics are just easier for beginners to work with. And just use a clearcoat/varnish at the end and you're good.

Should have given it a gloss coat to help make it look wet, that would have been really cool. It IS really nice as it is though.

This is pretty nice but a real wasted opportunity with the water...she could have sculpted in some nice waves and picked them out with white paint, or sculpted little streams of translucent water running out of the hy-gogg's armor as it emerged. Plus the glosscoat mentioned by the anon above me. Lots of fun shit you can do with water dioramas, but few people seem to take advantage of these things.
