Heads are on ball joints with a very limited amount of neck articulation, but it's on a very slender peg so I wouldn't do anything with that. Shoulders have ball joints inside the torso and hinges in the shoulders themselves: Innocentia supposedly improves on this design a bit. Biceps can swivel, elbows are hinges with about 150-160 degree motion. Wrists on Gourai and Stylet are ball joints that can't hold a lot of weight, from Materia onward they use plastic ball-and-two-swivel joints that allow very high articulation but have sometimes been reported to have breakage issues. Replacement parts are coming in July.

Torsos have a ball joint between upper and lower torso, which will often sag back if you put on any appreciable backpack without a spinal support. There's usually at least some amount of forward-back joint at the waist as well, with Baselard having the best in this regard. Thighs are ball joints with a swivel about halfway down, knees are swivels, ankles are usually oblong-ball-and-two-swivels. Range of motion is generally pretty good: I haven't found a pose I wanted them to do that they couldn't. A caveat, though: Gourai, Stylet and Architect have skirts that can impede the movement of their thighs. Stylet and Architect's skirts are articulated in about eight segments to alleviate some of these issues, while Gourai's is one solid piece. After Architect they seem to have decided that the skirts were no longer worth it and eliminated them going forward.

As far as touchups: a matte topcoat from an airbrush or spraycan will help, of course. I personally gave my Gourai, Stylet and Jinrai a coat of Tamiya primer and German Grey spraycan on their flesh tone bits below the neck so that they look like they're wearing full bodysuits instead of showing their panties. Stylet will also require some black paint to fill in some details that weren't molded in color, probably best done just using hand painting before the topcoat.

Also, with Jinrai I've found that her knee armor can be a bit loose in how the armor part connects to the hinge part. After this picture was taken, I replaced both knee plates with the spare peg parts on the runner and attached an Energy Shield onto each of her knees. Looks a bit nicer, gives her some more utility, and much more sturdy.

The preshade technique I used combined Vallejo Black Primer and Vallejo White Primer. Dried for 10 mins and After the Vallejo IDF Israeli Sand Grey Primer coat I put down some testors glosscote.

Fine surface primer is really good stuff yes but for mecha I stick to airbrush to save on paint.

What kind of top coat do you put on your FAGs? I was thinking semi-gloss for armor and matte for skin, but I'm wondering if the semi-gloss will stll be too glossy. I also heard somewhere that some people do a coat of matte and then a coat of semi-gloss, but I can't find any info about that online.

I can understand why this modeller adjusted how high the hair sits on the Materia face; there's this downs syndrome, potato-like vibe with the elongated head proportions.

Where on the inside of the hair should I do the cuts properly so the hair sits lower on the head? There is supposed to be a wall that the top of the faceplate meets, so I'm kind of stumped?

Basically, if you fail to thin your paints properly, there WILL be a noticeable difference even if you manage to replicate the shade of the base skin perfectly.

The main reason to paint the skin parts is if you want a different skin colour.

The only noticeable seam on the skin parts is the thighs and with proper seamwelding and armour parts on they're 99% invisible anyway.

Hey has anyone tried experimenting to see how you can get that kinda color shift when hair gets highlights?

Like say, for black hair, it kinda looks flat, but you spray on a coat of clear blue? So when you tilt the hair to catch highlights, the hair is highlighted that tone of blue and not just the lightened color of the black surface?

I saw it on ghostofzeon's blog with spraying pearl powders, I'm just wondering if it can be done just with clear paints layering?
