i think it worked out alright for some figures, but overall i think the headswapping gimmick falls flat as you can easily see whether or not a head goes to that figure.

i think i'm nostalgic for the animated era for a few reasons.

the unicron trilogy shows were abysmal, terrible animation, terrible story telling, terrible production quality, terrible everything

animated was a breath of fresh air, because the show was good, and for the first time since the beast era, we had transformers with character, and their toy designs reflected that.

overall it was super cohesive experience, and even though the designs were super controversial, i loved them. i wanted the toys BECAUSE i liked their characters in the show, and each figure was a lot of fun, and catered to plot lines in the show.

it was a good time.

Hardhead was the first TR figure I got, and I loved him. I thought this was a line to really look forward to, but somehow none of the toys that came after really came close to being as good as him. Some of the figures were still good figures on their own right, but the headmaster gimmick hardly mattered.

They are loads of fun, I have the two leaders and the train optimus. Both the combinations are great.

Only thing that sucks is that the leg modes are really scrawny so it looks like it definitely skipped leg day.

It's too bad no one really bought them or even had any general interest in the series. I wouldn't have hesitated to buy some sort of 3P add on kit to give them proper looking legs.

The Hasbro rules say that the Headmasters alter the specs of the host bots and also give them special abilities they wouldn't have otherwise. I think it would be kind of cool to head out on a mission and bring extra heads to tailor your abilities to the situation.

And that's pretty much it. As an actual figure, it's pretty clunky compared to our present standard for MPs. Overly heavy, and the alt. mode is pretty weak. The plastic feels much cheaper, too. But, I mean, if you want one just as a display/companion piece to MP-05, go for it, I guess. It's leaps and bounds better than that mess.

So, I decided to stop by my local Walmart to see if this guy was there. I walk up to the toy aisle and find a small family (mom, dad, and 6-or-7-year-old kid) looking at the transformers. I hang back so I don't make them feel pressured or like I'm lurking on them. The kid was looking mostly at the NuRID figures, but then he suddenly turns, reaches behind a Skullsmasher, and grabs...Chromedome. I got a quick look and I'm 99% sure it was the Takara head. Each figure has very unique limitations based on what its bot mode has to be like and what its alt. mode has to be like, and then you consider what they are able to do within budget for each figure. It's kind of fucked up that the fanmodes look so much better than the official. Same with Metroplex. Didn't anyone look at the preproduction samples and just go "Y'know, go with this instead. Whoever designed it the other way, fire them.".

What I meant is in order to make the fanmode STABLE and STURDY, it may need extra parts. Like extra tabs, screws, or panels, thus blowing the budjet of the figure. As it is, the fanmode here >>6251874 >>6251875 barely hold itself.

Still, they should have had the "correct" design in mind from the start. The bot and aircraft carrier ARE perfect. But even with that, I'm pretty sure they would have managed to make a better jet withing the budjet without affecting the other modes.

Just found the Chaos on Velocitron in a NJ Toysrus.

I'm pleased with the set. I gave the Rodimus Prime head to TR Hotrod, gave G2 Optimus' body to Terri-bull, fastlane really is just a legends class figure but looks like a really good modern update. Quickswitch despite being a repaint still looks really good in robot mode, nautica looks fine and I love her purpleish pink color.

We just need to see the other two sets now. I've got a feeling that G2 styled Megatron is going to show up in the fireblast set. I really want the BBTS exclusive set now these giftsets have been all hits from Combiner Wars onwards.
