Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.

2 threads ago some anon said that Konami had pulled the Shinki license from Kotobukiya because did some collab work with Kojima's company. Koto, meanwhile a bunch of former Shinki guys heading up FA-Girls and Megami Device by using the Machineca body was was a prototype MMS4 body and using the same TV studios Konami used to make the FA-Girl anime because the 2 studios got screwed by Konami. So my Taobao order came in recently, and I know some anon was asking about the face recasts, so I'm gonna toss some words out about that.

-The nude body that's up there is very nice, the painting and sculpting are really well done, with some slight variation. I bought two, and it's a very ymmv situation, since it's just someone making them in China. Possible problems include: the neck joint may be shaved too closely for the head to stay on, the sprue that the legs are put on may be very tight, or some mild painting errors, but these are probably solvable with putty and sanding, respectively.

-The faceplate casts without eye indentations are very high quality, they feel and look almost identical to the actual plastic from the kits, with some very slight imperfections. They are also packaged and presented well, overall they justify the higher prices that they're listed for on Taobao. My only complaint is that smiling or laughing faces aren't offered by the seller.

-The faceplates with the eye indentations are lower quality, they feel slippery and are not the right skin color OOB, so they'll require paint (FA:G paint soon though so). They still fit snugly into place, and the fact that happy faces are an option makes them worth it to me. If the eye indentations really don't work out, I may try putty+painting to smooth them out.
>>
>>6163502
Forgot to mention, all of the products (2 nude bodies, 2 of the eyeless faces and 10 of the eyed faces) with shipping and processing and handling and fees and all that came to about 70 dollars.
>>
>>6161433

From what I can tell, this is the first girl from VOLKS' Vlocker's line (also with a name like Prime-chan that checks out to me), they've mostly stuck to their own brand of plastic multipart robots. Some anons have chimed in that their plastic/design integrity isn't the best, but I'm definitely into these 1/12 scale girl kits, so if I can find one when they release I'll take a chance on it.

As for similar products from non-volks companies, Aoshima showed designs and later, a prototype for a Macross girl kit, google "Macross Valkyrie Girl Model Kit Concept" (if I wasn't on mobile I'd link), so hopefully something comes of that later in 2017.

If you're into her because pigtails, Koto teased a design back in 2016 with boofy pigtails, google "kotobukiya byakko girl," they've shown a prototype of the robot but not the girl, so here's hoping we see more about that in 2017 as well.

Thas' all I know on those

They're really easy since everything comes colored in the color they need to be. No painting required whatsoever.

That said there are a few things you need to be aware of, like the bottoms of the feet and t-joints of the hips being a bit fragile. You want to reinforce those with pins or something.

I took some photos today for a tutorial for pinning the T-joint, I just need to get around to editing it. Will be up soon. Maybe tomorrow.

Lacking a pin vice, could it work to heat up the pin itself and having it melt trough the plastic?
>>
>>6170090
Get a pin vise.
>>
>>6170090
no, the plastic is too long and narrow, you would end up either warping the plastic, turning it brittle, and/or not getting anywhere at all.

pin vice is affordable, safer, and more controlled.
>>
>>6170096
>>6170106
I've been looking into it, but pin vices seem to just no exist around here. There's not even a word in the language for this type of tool. I have to jump trough so many hoops to import stuff, buying a pin vise will have to wait until I can batch with something else down the line.
Guess I'll just have to see what I can jigger when I actually get the kit.
>>
>>6170113
Alternative tools would be something like a very small precision drill of some kind. Try one of those model kit stores (or Gunpla stores if you stay in Asia).
>>
>>6170113
it is basically a vise that holds tiny drill bits and pins and can function like a small hand drill. I suggest printing out photos of a couple of pin vises and showing them to the shop empolyees and see what happens.

But don't hold out much hope, I went to a Home Depot and a Lowes to see if they had any and got no results except for an old man at Lowes immediately knowing what I was describing and confirming they use to sell them but not anymore. So most hardware places may not carry them for you.

They still exist, they just aren't as numerous as they were. A hardware or an even more elusive hobby store might well have worked for one too.

It really is interesting how much more difficult brick and mortar stores are getting to work with for one off items like this though.

Saving this for a Gore Thread
>>
>>6170235
Yeah, I thought the same. Harbor Freight has a few obscure things the big box hardware stores don't carry, so there's a possibility there, but I just kind of rigged my own pin vice a long time ago with an Xacto knife handle and some drill bits for a dremel.
>>
>>6170256
Damn that is actually pretty clever. Exacto knives pretty much are pin vises more or less, just a bit weaker.
>>
>>6170113
Just buy one from amazon. Pin vises aren't some rare tool no one uses or anything, christ.
>>
>>6170235
Since it's such a pain in the ass to import things, I always bulk them up to get only one or two packages a year. And the latest package with like 10 kits, blue stuff and other random shit is already in the mail. It's just not worthy my and my proxy friend's time and effort to get just a pin vice.

Yeah, I had to roll the shaft of the bit in some hot glue, let it cure fully, then it helped keep it from slipping in the handle. Had to unscrew the collar and collet completely to put the bit in, but it worked in a pinch.

>>6170275
Where do you live that you have trouble finding a relatively simple tool? I remember a story about an Argentina-anon having to warehouse as much as they could before importing because their customs were strict as to how many packages they allowed (idk how true it is), so I can sorta understand you hoarding up your orders if that's the case.

>Where do you live that you have trouble finding a relatively simple tool?
Argentina, actually. There isn't even a spanish term for it, as the closest thing I could find is a years old post in a translation forum about what to call it. Even family members who work at a hardware store have never seen one. I never really realized how odd it was I'd never seen one irl until just now.
I'll probably just end up bullshiting up a handle for the removable head of my dremel.

And yeah, import limitations in Argentina are savage. As of last year, maximum 2 packages in a calendar year, the combined value of which (shipping included) couldn't go over 100 US$. And it involved a bunch of paperwork and you have to pick it up personally at a customs office, which for me is 500km away. It's a mess. So now I just buy things with a european friend's address and have them send it back to me marked as gift so it bypasses all import regulations.
>>
>>6170316
I'd suggest not trying that. Get the right tool for the job, don't risk screwing things up by trying to MacGuyver something.

If you'd like I can get one and send it to you, provided you pay for it. Pin vises are small and weight very little so I could probably ship it to you for under 15 usd.

Get into resin kits next.

Please don't.

Cute girls being lightly bullied is my fetish.

for UK shinki fans who missed the R1 release the Anime is coming out via MVM on march 20th:

What size drill bit was used? This is very important
>>
Guys, how are we going to get the FA:G paints, since most places see paint as "hazardous goods?"
>>
>>6174060
Ask KotoUS to distribute it.
>>
>>6174060
Get someone to carry it anlly past airport security or find a forwarder that can ship it via surface?
>>
>>6174060
Fuck, I only just realized tenso wont ship paint.
>>
>>6174060
>tfw can't order any amount of paint on DEA country unless you get a license so you have to rely on scale model stores who jew everyone out of their shekels
The people who put together these regulations should be hanged and beaten Mussolini-style, this is fucking annoying.
Glad I'm not under InDuna Macri, though.
>>
>>6174051
Whatever size drill bit fits your pinning material. Shit isn't rocket science.

I'm having trouble liking these, they just seem awkward. Maybe they'll look better with painted bodies.
>>
>>6174394
They seem kinda lazy too.
>>
>>6174331
I don't own drill bits. Going to end up buying the wrong shit.
>>
>>6174394
im not digging the armors, not a fan of twintails
>>
Man, I kind of want but not really buy the sentry gun because I want the wheels for my Gourai but I don't know what to do with the turret part.
I guess I have to get used to have shit I don't need laying in a box.

>>
>>6174394
Armor looks shitty.
The chest piece on the blue one is way too big and the head piece looks like those masks from the 1600's
Red one looks unbalanced because of the wide shoulder armor

>>6174454
Long twintail >>>> Short twintail
>>
>>6174394
I prefer the blue one, between the two. The guns on the red one look too cartoony
>>
>>6174394
The base girl is a QT but the armor is eh
>>
>>6174418
To be fair, it seems like the armor is just parts they got from the rest of the VLOCKERS line just to demonstrate what you can do. Nevermind the fact that these don't look great, but they usually don't.

>>

It might be able to use the grip from gourai's bazooka
>>
>>6174437
It would be a great mounted cannon for the Powered Guardian if you bought one for your Gourai.

You know she deserves it.

more info/release when??
>>
>>6175644
I kinda hope it dies on the vine. The robutt looks fine but the girl does nothing for me.
>>
>>6175646
They need to retool her helmet and chestplate and make it more visually interesting.
>>
>>6175644
Absolutely no head articulation ever
Also she needs to cover her tits
>>
>>6175644
I hope it won't be too top heavy, it'll be shit to pose if so.
>>
>>6175667
Maybe they'll make the jaws shut or something so she has a worthwhile gimmick.

>>6175671
>Absolutely no head articulation ever
Hadn't thought of that, but you're right.
>Also she needs to cover her tits
Shut your face.
>>
>>6162338
Geez
>>
>>6175644
The more I look at her the more I'm thinking:

has anyone out there tried their hands at a FA:G custom of Metal Gear REX? There's even a Koto kit..
>>
I had a dream that someone gave me all of the little battle cats from every Shinki and now I'm wishing that was true.

Are there any taobao sellers or anything that have recast them? I don't want to buy like six different Shinki just for some pompom cats.

>>
>>6175644
The frame look great but unless that jaw part close into helmet I will scrap that FAG for parts.
>>
>>6175644
We'll probably get more info this coming WF.
>>
>>6175644
I know it's called the Byakko but that's it. Winter WonFes 2017 starts on the 19th, Japan time, so I'm hoping for announcements on everything then

>>
>>6175644
Concept is nice and good to see they're continuing with booby FAGs. Helmet probably needs to be shrunk a bit, or at least be an option to leave off.
>>
>>6175644

Shame about giant neck piece

Not really. Given that Darth Vader is still alive here, and this is the older Storm Troopers means it take place during the original trilogy. Not the Disney Trilogy.
