For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

Yeah, it's a hellhole. With some kits you may be better off choosing which stickers to apply, rather than going for the whole shebang.
Also if you ever go for the Titan MK II, be wary of the foils. Those suckers scrape easy (you can see this on the ones inside the elbows in your pic), and there are some around the joints that just don't stay down.
I love the design of the kit, but fuck me if those stickers aren't awful.

I found a video review of it without apps, I'll probably leave it sticker-less and use my tabletop wargame model experience to weather it up and make it look old

So I picked up the Gyancelot the other day, only to find out the kit was full of hideous stickers. I love the design enough to put in some extra work, and I decided to apply a bit of paint.

First time I've painted a kit. Comments/critiques?

Also, I tried to apply waterslide decals, but all of them kept flaking off with the slightest touch, even after totally drying. Has anyone had this problem and has anyone got a solution?

It's traditional to call large inanimate objects, such as vehicles, "she". This tradition predates your teenage hormone-fueled idiocy by hundreds of years, easily. :^)

I've done seam welding on my first kit without paint and it's alright, problem is panel lining seems to seep in the plastic and colors besides white get a washed up seam

I can get a picture of the panel lining smudges and blue discoloration when I get home if you want
>>
>>6156051
With a good topcoat seam welding works surprisingly well on otherwise unpainted kits, actually. It's worth doing and a little discoloration tends to be less jarring than an oddly placed crack.

About 15 seconds. I just cut the round segment of backpack off, then super glued the remaining c clip to the heel. You can remove the ankles and reattach the flat foot too since there's nothing blocking.
>>
How do you madmen avoid or remove nubs? I know sandpapers, but it seems like a normal pair of nippers, knife and file will not do a damn thing to them.
>>
>>6156262
Cut fairly close with the nippers, then, just like you said, sandpaper the fuck outta them.
>>
>>6156262
I don't care that much about hyper-perfection, so I snip, then just slice off the remainder with a sharp hobby knife. Sometimes it takes off a tad too much, but it generally does the job and looks pretty clean.

The thing is, MGs have gotten so good/advanced lately, and Bandai has been shying away from detailed inner frames in general sooo....I sorta don't know what a new PG would do to stand out anymore. I think it'd just seem like a big, slightly fancier MG.

>>6156394
We just got Prozen Knights Iron Kong and Gojulas The Ogre late last year...I wouldn't exactly call it dead. I wish we would get some new molds and not just repaints/retools though.
>>
>>6156414
>I sorta don't know what a new PG would do to stand out anymore
You just answered that yourself with Bandai shying away from detailed inner frames.
Them going back to offering a super detailed inner frame would be enough to stand out now days.
>>
>>6156419
>>6156414
You know what could make PGs relevant again?

LEGO Mindstorms but with gunpla.
>>
>>6156459
PGs already are relevant. The Unicorns basically shit all over the MG Unicorns in terms of articulation and gimmicks.

PGs are best suited for suits that have intricate gimmicks that need the size to implement properly.
>>
>>6156392
I just fucking opened this thing fully and the bags released a hideous mildew smell and the staples on the instructions are RUSTED.

This is no longer a kit, someone wants me dead.
>>
>>6156419
Ehh...I just don't know if that'd be enough for me. Inner frames are kinda cool and all but I'm not one of those people who finely detail every gear and piston, so an inner frame is one of those things where I go "cool" and then put on the outer armor and never see it again.

>>6156463
Yeah, it's probably best for suits with complex gimmicks. Other than that, I dunno if I really see the value of the line anymore. Maybe it became hard to see the moment Sazabi Ver. Ka came out and showed us what a MG was capable of.
>>
Whats the best way to strip unknown paints off of gundam? I bought a MG sandrock from my local thrift store and the runners are painted.
>>
>>6156518
Simple Green soak works pretty well. Toothbrush scrubs the paint off, may require multiple soaks.
>>
>>6156518
Cum. Lots of cum, the low acidity of it will slowly strip paint off after a week or two.
>>
>>6156472
That's fairly common with older knockoffs. They sit in the warehouse without being checked.
>>
working on the sd neo zeong, should the sinanju be semi gloss and mobile armor be flat? what do you guys recommend?
>>
What's a good place to buy a knockoff Heavy Arms Custom MG?
>>
>>6156518

Castrol Super Clean. Comes in a big purple jug.

Just soak overnight, then scrub with a stiff brush. It'll even take out deep stains if you soak it long enough. I've taken 10+ year old gundams and made them look as clean as the day they came off the runners with it.

Just don't get any on your fucking skin, holy shit.

I sat down and drew this out, my dad and I are going to build it soon.

I know getting it from the back would be 'better' but if it's 14" deep, add another 12" for a fan, buffer zone, and duct and it would just be difficult. It might even work just as good to the side since I'm right handed and always brush pointing left. Either way, it's not the paint you're trying to capture, it's the fumes, so any side will work.

The goal here was to make a unit that I could disassemble and put all back into itself to save space, so when I'm not using it, it'd just look like a normal storage bin.

I'm going to try to set up a universal switch that turns on the lights and the fan at the same time.

Anyone build something similar?

If you denub, seam weld(if necessary), sand, polish, panel line, apply stickers and and topcoat even an HG can last you a while.
And RG has so many little pieces it takes even longer, most people don't even try painting them because of that

It takes me usually 6 hours in one sitting to denub, sand and polish an average HG
I've done several 2 hours sessions on the RG mk II for one arm, leg or accessory each time

New hotness.

Lessons learned:

One fan >>>>>> multiple fans
Flexible ducting is a huge dust trap, to be avoided if possible.

>>6156988
Timely.

Given where you will be spraying fan placement is questionable. Front or bottom or even side would be better.

Air filter like that will block the airflow and bring the effective CFMs right down. Fiberglass filter is better.

Lighting is HUGELY important, you do not want to half-ass it (unless you want to be running to a proper light every time to check the paint coverage/color).

>it's not the paint you're trying to capture, it's the fumes
You _are_ trying to capture paint dust as well as fumes (unless the area you are planning to use this in is not meant to be habitable).

Damn that's some real nice weathering you got going on there! A mix of laziness and lack of skill means that I just go for a layer of top coat on my PGs and end up with that factory style finish, although I kinda enjoy the pristine look of it too.

Made a bunch of progress today, I like the coils with individual segments for a flexible finish but they're so inredibly monotonous to cut out, sand and put together. I'll probably finish tomorrow or the day after I guess, the size of this thing is huge so far so I can't wait to see how big it turns out when finished.

RG are so busy I just can't go for more than 1 or 2 hours while I can binge high grades without problems
I've heard working on the MG's bigger pieces make it more like working on HG parts than RG

You might as well try one of every scale to get a good grasp of how you'll like it
Besides, high and real grade are much easier on the wallet than mg

For me once I finish the mk II I'm doing either an mg zaku or strike freedom and I'm not touching real grades for a while

Gravity is best. Siphon is for people who use tons of colors back to back, like the dudes who paint T-shirts. Gravity you can mix a few drops and not waste paint, so don't fuck up and get a siphon unless you're doing tons and tons of painting with a single color.

Gravity is literally the only choice.

Say you want to paint a model's foot, well with gravity, one drop pigment, two drops thinner, paint the foot. With siphon, mix half a pot of paint, a pot of thinner, paint the foot and have 95% of it left, put it on a shelf, thinner dissolves and the paint dries.

There's no upside fo siphon unless you paint all day.

When it comes to cleaning 7ml cup is better than 1.5ml because you can clean the brush with one cupful of thinner as opposed to 3 or 4.

It seems silly but refilling the tiny cup again and again gets old real fast.

it does appear that the zoids line might be dying out again. Throughout last year was a plethora of reissues for kits, and now it seems there are no where near as much reissues. Of course I always had trouble finding the new monthly release list for kotobukiya, so this is just me going off of preorders being listed on amiami.

It might also just be that they feel like they don't need anymore zoids reissues for a while after that binge. But it is still worrisome when combined with so little information being said on the future of the line and the fact that when there is info released very few people discuss it online leading to me finding out the news was even mentioned at an event after a kit came out like with the Prozen Kong.

I impulse-bought a bunch of gunpla kits and tools last night for some reason.
Mainly because I was shocked at how cheap they are on Amazon.

Are these decent as beginner kits?

• Gunpla beginner's set Vol.2
• Char's Zaku II HG 1/144
• Guncannon Revive HGUC 1/144
• GP02A HGUC 1/144

I'm not too worried if they're not great looking, they can serve as practice anyway.

I got a little toolkit with snippers and files and shit and black, grey and brown markers.

(sorry if terminology is wrong, i haven't a fucking clue what i'm talking about besides phrases i've heard watching gunpla yt videos today)
>>
>>6157949
The beginner set isn't great, the Zaku II is ancient
>>
>>6157966
>The beginner set isn't great, the Zaku II is ancient
probably why they were £10 each then. as i said, i'm not too fussed, as long as they provide some form of practice for the other two (i don't want to fuck the guncannon up because it's my fav MS).
>>
>>6157949
get tamiya clippers, they're a reasonable price and really good for what they are. wipe them with dry cloth or tissue then coat in lubricant oil to prevent rusting, after each use.

get yourself some cheap IBO kits like the Graze or Astaroth for practice. Origin kits are only slightly more complex. RX 78, Char's Zaku II have good HG Origin kits.
>>
>>6157978
The Zaku is great if you like the oldschool proportions.

are the ones i listed not good starting kits then?

and what the fuck is pic related? it came in the tool kit i bought. i think the set is a general purpose one for modelmaking/electronics etc. so it might be nothing to do with gunpla.
>>
>>6158012
That's a part separator, IIRC.
>>
>>6158012
it's not that the kits you picked are bad, just that they're a bit outdated. IBO kits are easy to build, good practice and sturdy. HG Origins are sturdy and easy to build too but I'd argue that they might have slightly more challenging nubs to sand off and they're not as cheap as IBO kits. Stick to HG for now I would say if you're focusing on practicing.

That's definitely not a cutter. Most likely to be a part separator like the other anon said. Also, check out the sticky guide on top, it's got everything you asked about, even alt kit suggestions for beginners.

The new guncannon is amazing, fun to build and very posable. Zaku II is outdated and hard to pose but it was a nice build, it felt sturdy after doing ibo kits.

I'd reccomend starting on white kits like rx variants and GMs, nub marks are more noticeable on dark colors so you have to be more careful when cutting if you don't paint.

I think I bought the same toolset as you did
That cutter is pretty bad at removing pieces from the runner, it twist the piece if you cut the big part of the runner and if you try cutting the slim connection it slips closer to the piece and rips a little hole in the middle of the nub half the time
The black sanding stick is also way too rough to start on nubs but the gray ones are more suited to finishing touches
Yellow thing is a part separator, really handy
>>
>>6158248
>I think I bought the same toolset as you did
I'm no expert, but straight out of the box I noticed the screwdrivers are pretty shite (look like they came out of a christmas cracker) and the files look quite cheaply made. the tweezers look decent enough, though.

That's really more of a question for /m/, not here. But in general the "main" continuity is the Universal Century, which has the most series in it. Beyond that are the AUs, which are self-contained, but like to reference past series anyway. Gunpla Builders Beginning G treats all past Gundam series as shows within its own universe, and Gundam Build Fighters does this too, but assumes GPBG (and all future Gundam series) to be fiction too.

There kind of doesn't, in fact the filter itself is optional like in pic related.

If you have multiple fans you need a plenum chamber to equalize the pressure and you can read up on that if you want but I honestly wouldn't recommend using multiple fans for a spray booth to begin with.

I use a single fan. There were some tutorials that had a spacer between the filters and the fan and I wondered if that was neccessary.

Well, in theory the farther you fan is from the filter the less dust will settle on it because it will settle on the walls of the duct (or chamber).

Also if your booth is wider than your fan you might want to have a funnel to suck the air from a larger surface (at a slower speed).
>>
>>6157167
>One fan >>>>>> multiple fans
What's happening is that your old set up was experiencing severe turbulence as the three fans were funneled together. In fact, even that duct reducer will introduce turbulence because the narrowing walls will interrupt the airflow.

Many axial fans don't generate enough pressure to overcome the resistance of bottlenecks, they need to be very high RPM to generate high pressure. So in the end computer server fans and bilge blowers are among the best because they're high RPM, high pressure, but also terribly loud.

And you can mitigate the problem of multiple fans just by having multiple separate ducts, it's significantly better than having three fans that funnel into one.

Were they limited edition? I wasn't into gunpla when they were available. And IIRC the 00 Raiser designer color got a restock fairly recently.

I kinda wanna build a kit, and stop after finishing the frame and put it on display. Or put the parts on half of it, for a diorama feel.

Either the gundam or the zaku 2.0 kits. Mostly the zaku one.

Yeah, but I tend to fuck up cutting them out finely so I leave as is. Without the scrutiny of a camera they sit in fine with the overall finish after coating it.

Meh, I was going to just buy a Shenlong and kitbash it with an HG Altron, but the price wasn't going to be much different so I decided to just get the MG Altron. I'm in Japan so I don't know how expensive the Shenlong or Altron over there.
>did you previously build the shenlong and heavyarms?
Yeah
>how do they compare?
It's almost the same kit, actually it comes with all the parts to build the Shenlong. But honestly, the dragon fangs totally change the look of the kit.
>how are the kits on their own merits?
It's a pretty cool kit. You're also getting some water slides, but if you fuck up one of them you're going to have to buy a 3rd party sheet because there's no extra ones.

it's pretty much what I was expecting articulation wise, I do wish the ankle had slightly more range. Other than that, I'd say that for the shoulders to get more range, it'd have to get a similar joint style as RG Zaku II, where the shoulder armor is actually on a separate joint... but yes, at the low price point, I really wasn't expecting that to happen with IBO HG kits.

Other than that, I've actually really enjoyed this kit, hit the spot for my HG collection. Really, the only other kits I'm itching for are now HG Origin Tristar and either RG Char Zaku II or the HG Origin ver of that.

I would separate the parts into groups of their respective kits. Copy the manual and put it on ebay with something like "x kit parts."
And/or separate the effects and weapon parts into on group.

Or put all the stuff together like that, but with a few more photos so we can see everything. And put it on ebay as a grab bag. Maybe list what kits the parts are from.

I'm planning to do the same with all the left over pieces from kitbashes/unfinished projects.

I'm just unsure if I should do the typical thing, or try some feminine colors for the panel lines like pink and purple. If you're gonna paint it, your best bet is to sand the nubs down with a high-grit sandpaper. Color them in with a Sharpie or something first so you can make sure you don't accidentally file down the surrounding area. But once you sand, the only remains will be a little discoloration, which'll be covered by the paint.
>>
>>6161347
Go with one made for buffing nails, as the grit is higher. That being said, you can get a metric shitton of high-grit sandpaper on Amazon for less than ten bucks, so it might be worth just doing that.

I did and didn't notice how difficult it was to fix until it was too late. I think I'm just going to sand everything flush, hit it with primer, and paint it so cover up all the mistakes.

BTW, I really don't care for putting on stickers. Especially on round surfaces.

Regin's a nice kit, but the knee armor hinders posability on purpose and forces it to have a weird leg curve. The hands have insane up/down tilt, but it sacrifices all wrist movement.

Moving some stuff around.

Also, it's amazing to me that you guys can spot mistakes like that. I guess it's because I'm new, but I have trouble spotting those nub marks on the picture without really searching. Guess it comes with time.

Anyone got a color scheme suggestion?

I feel like to really pose this one, I need a stand. His legs and skirts are too bulky to do a lot of moving.
>>
>>6161765
I'm actually new too. I'm the anon above who posted the gusion but I might be slightly OCD with toys so I made sure to take my time filing. General rule I keep to myself when cutting is that it's always easier to deal with excess rather than having to try and add back to the kit's material... and that once you put it together, it's just going to be much more of a pain in the ass because instead of one tiny surface, now you're dealing with the other parts around it.

I hate applying stickers to round surfaces too... and the Graze kits would benefit a lot from clear parts on the mono-eyes, I feel like. I might end up buying a graze still though eventually...

Ah neat. Yeah, I've learned a lesson on using the nippers on this one. By the end I was doing a better job, but that doesn't do me a lot of good.

The graze was actually pretty easy to assemble. I got it all done yesterday over the course of about 4-5 hours. I think the other Grazes are easier to pose than the Schwalbe, though. I need a stander. I think I'm going to do Barbados next or get a master grade.

Yeah schwalbe was kind of a let down, the bulky legs ruined his posability. Ritter suffers the same problems. You got any figma stands?

I don't, but the next time I order a kit, I'll order some. I'm either gonna get barbados or a master grade. Are the G gundam kits any good? There's a shadow/spiegel MG that looks good. Also a Jesta cannon that I wanted to do.

I've got a Try burning High grade on the way.
>>
>>6161809
G Gundam kits have inner frames that are still more posable than some modern kits. They also have rubber soles for better grip, and they're stylish as fuck.

Jesta cannon is p Bandai if you can get it for a decent price, then by all means go for it. I've never liked the Jesta though.

Thanks. I'll probably get Spiegel next then.
As for the Jesta, I just like it's style I guess. It's a little more practical in design and less obviously a main character/evil villain MS.

here's my little dorm display, currently in the process of putting the rest of the decals on the heavyarms MG.
i've only painted warhammer figs in the past but i really want to start painting some of the gundam i have. are the tamiya spray colors a good alternative to airbrushing if im trying to coat certain pieces all in one color? i know that for smaller details i would use some hand painting, with probably either vallejo or tamiya paints. any thoughts?
>>
Where's the best place to order Tamiya spray cans? I was just going to use amazon unless there's somewhere better.

is that zaku 1 from the hg thunderbolt line? I like that yellow/orange coloring. How does it compare to the RG and HG Origin Zakus?

Looks like a common.

Unless the game has changed since I quit playing years ago, 99% of the commons aren't worth the cardboard they're printed on.

Quick look shows that cards worth around a couple of quid so it's not too bad. Still the idea of treating a card like that offends me a little.

Oh, I have the Tamiya toolkit. These were just a surprise delivery today. So like four things of plastic cement from different companies, gundam markers, toolkit and the shown all in total.

Had an idea for a build. Build a Jojo inspired Gundam/Stand. I could levitate a torso above a standing figure and paint them in Jojo colors. They'd need to be really articulated, though.
Any ideas for what kits would be good?

Also, I got my grappling hook figured out.
>>

Ah, you're pretty much set then. You could start now if you wanted to.

pic related is the box of a P-Bandai (Premium Bandai) kit.
Unless you're living in a few select countries outside of japan, japan is the only place you'll be able to acquire P-Bandai kits at MSRP. Otherwise you'll have to go through a middle man who'll charge markup and shipping fees.
So maybe look into a few P-Bandai kits that you might want to buy while you're there.

>Any tips on how to tighten joints? I have one model that has its legs constantly falling off because the plastic stretched or something, and I don't wanna glue it because it's the point where the leg meets the hip joint allowing z-axis rotation of the leg.
FLOOR POLISH!

Seriously, just dip the joint parts in this stuff, wiggle it around to get it in there, then let it sit and gel.
Bam, tighten joint!

>Go with one made for buffing nails, as the grit is higher. That being said, you can get a metric shitton of high-grit sandpaper on Amazon for less than ten bucks, so it might be worth just doing that.
I just went to the local hardware store...
