I wouldn't say it was ever strict at all. The closest thing to a slavishly cartoon accurate MP before the recent design trends was MP01 and they sure as shit dropped that idea fast when MP03 came out and went for a realistic jet mode first and foremost that wasn't seen anywhere for G1 Starscream.
From then pretty much up until Laserwave, MPs have been designed based off of the original likeness of the character and using details from the vehicles they're based on to make high detail products. I wouldn't say any of the previous MPs are slavish to the original designs, they went for their own distinct style instead of trying to replicate poorly animated toy commercials.

TR is clearly much cheaper and more easy to obtain, plus it continues the TM play pattern. Unfortunately Megs is sort of just GW grey throughout and OP has a pretty terrible plane mode.

Whereas Maketoys has the superior articulation and aesthetics, but Despotron turns into a rifle rather than a tank or a plane and they're at least twice as expensive as OP and Megs.

I seriously can't decide.

I have pretty high tolerances for bad angles. Like I can deal with hollow legs or a really kibbly back or what-have-you, but MP36 really falls apart from any angle but the front. From above you see how greebly his shoulders are, from the sides his midsection stops making sense and you can see how hollow his arms are and the back looks like someone disassembled a figure and what you're seeing is the inside of a torso.

Just about the only thing that really looks good and really comes off as MP quality are his legs, which all other Megatrons have struggled with in the past.

If I never get a good MP scale non-transforming Megatron then I at least hope some 3P company rips off the leg engineering to use in their own autismo.

Once the screws in Cerebros' chest come out, you can pull the chestplate off. You can see that the speaker and chest LED are embedded into the back of the chest plate, but it's not glued in or anything and snugly fits in with friction. A gentle tug on it using a pair of tweezers is enough to get them to slip out.

Here's a look at the voice activation switch. The tiny black box in the middle there is the switch itself. The blue stuff and springs is all just fluff.

The yellow wire goes to an IF switch that changes the lines depending on whether or not Fort Max's visor is flipped down and activates a sound when it's pressed in or out. Brown goes to the battery box, black is presumably the ground. I forgot to see where the purple one goes. It's probably a trap and causes Cerebros to explode if I were to cut it.

Hound: The underdog. No prior portrayal. Bumblebee's already done the bleeding heart thing. Mildly interested in a new toy. I already have Henkei Hound, but hey, the winner of this will be a Prime, so Hound as an APC (that isn't the movie version)? That could be cool.

Arcee: So, she'll be what, the equivalent of Grimlock in the old comics? Arc Prime as a new toy? Could be interesting, tow-wise. But not strictly necessary.

Megatron: The most obvious choice. While not terribly exciting simply because of how "obvious" it is, I don't find the idea of turning Megatron into a Prime to be objectionable. I also don't object to yet another Megatron toy.

Star Saber: It would have been cool to see Star Saber as Prime. Too bad IDW's portrayal of all the Japanese characters have been laaaaame on the grounds that they pointlessly changed their personalities. Stil, a non-MP Star Saber might be cool.

Thunderwing: Eh, boring. Toy might be cool though.

Unknown Evil: Unknown Evil is the exception to the "IDW pointlessly ruined all the Japanese characters" rule. I think given how he's been portrayed, Unknown Evil might be a cool leader to have. He'd be like Starscream only without the lackluster portrayal. Also, a new Unknown Evil toy would be great.

Optimus Primal: Booooring. He's like Ultra Magnus or Thunderwing in that while he might be a cool character, there's not much that 'pops' with him. He's got plenty of good toys although we might see more Beasts if he gets voted?

Shockwave: Story-wise, don't see what he'd add. Nor toy-wise.
