Supporting Beast Wars, for one. Also I paid For the AE one first, and later the mace got revealed as a bonus so I ordered that a few weeks afterwords. One will have the base faceplate with a mouth for a Transformer display, the other will have the faceplate and hang out with Gaogaigar, Dancouga, Big O, and Giant Robo

Victorion was released as a "platinum" edition and had a higher MSRP than other CW sets. In Singapore (where Hasbro has tight control over the prices), the G2 sets were SGD 200 while Vicky was SGD 220

The interesting thing is that CW Liokaiser and CW Computron were released at SGD 200 despite liokaiser having the "platinum edition" label.

Is it just me, or do a lot of the TR deluxes have an amazing altmode while the robot is a bit of a letdown?

>Skullcruncher
Gator mode is amazing and expressive, but his robot is kind of stocky and can barely stand.

>weirdwolf
Wolf mode is great, but his robot mode has the narrowest hips known to man and a chest the size of texas.

>chromedome
Beautiful 80's retro-future sportscar, but then he turns into a fatass with short arms/legs and a really wide chest

I can't quite put my finger on it, but they've all got these weird proportions going on. I sort of think it's the legs, because hardhead got ten times better once I got him that foot upgrade set.

>>6006169

Honestly, I like the robot and alt modes of them all. And Chromedome is more based on his IDW than his G1 figure anyway, which sports a narrow wasp waist and huge chest, like the figure has. At least it's not based on his G1 figure though, which had the proprotions of a plant of wood in 'botmode.
>>
>>6006163

Make no mistake, i'm not underwhelmed by the toys, I haven't even opened them yet. I preordered them months ago when I saw the Hasbro vs Takara versions of Blurr and Computron, but now they've been so covered, so reviewed, so praised, so oversaturated that I pretty much know 100% what i'm going to get before I open the boxes. But again, haven't even opened them yet so I can't really speak. I ordered Computron for that giga drill Nosecone and Blurr for that sexy color scheme.

It's more of a problem with me than the toys, really.
>>

Wish I had the dosh for all that right now. And they're all good figures.

I really want a UW Computron, he's just so fucking expensive for what he is. I'd Gladly pay 130 (shipping included), any more than that and it's just too much.

>>6006182
In his defense, a version for all those molds have already been released in some way or form, the biggest change would be Strafe.
>>
>>6006160
Only as good as you want them to be
>>
>>6006172
If I had to choose one word to describe IDW chromedome though, it'd be lanky. His arms go down to his knees, and his legs are maybe 2/3rds of his height. The toy is just kind of stumpy in all regards.

>At least it's not based on his G1 figure though, which had the proprotions of a plant of wood in 'botmode.

>>
>>6006193
The demo is aimed at young boys. Same reason the girl power rangers don't sell well. Only collectors our age give a shit if they're willing to dive into the toyline aimed at children.
>>
>>6006118
Weirdwolf has thus far been the first TR figure that I actually found satisfying. He's expressive, well articulated, and actually has engineering and a parts count that puts him a bit more in line with the hayday of the Generations line. I was just floored when I picked him up, opened him, and found out that he had that clear (soft) red plastic core throughout his entire head. From the pictures I had seen, I just assumed those holes in his wolf mode head were just going to be empty space in Hasbro's effort to save just a few extra pennies on plastic and the eyes would be painted on but to find out it was actually a giant chunk of light piping in there made me so happy. I was also impressed that his shoulders weren't just a single hollow yellow piece with paint but the blue parts were actually another piece snapped into them. It's a small detail but having bits like that actually makes the figure feel so much more alive than just using paint. He also has that ball jointed neck on his wolf head when I was fully expecting it to be a single static piece. The range on it isn't amazing but it gets the job done. His hind legs were also great because Hasbro didn't take the lazy route with them where you just have the robot mode legs sticking straight out the back with the knees bent 90 degrees downward like so many quadruped TFs tend to be. Last but certainly not least is HE ACTUALLY HAS PANELS TO COVER HIS ARMS WHERE HIS HANDS FOLD OUT! I have been so tired of seeing that lazy shit on current TF lines, especially on Voyager class figures, where the fists just fold and leave these big gaps in the forearms with nothing to cover them. To see that level of detail come back in what has been one of the chintziest lines we've ever gotten just made my fucking day. Mileage will probably very on this one but mine actually had pretty solid QC to boot and I know that has been a major issue throughout the line. He's just a really satisfying toy.
>>
>>6006185
I was able to get uw Computron for like 135 off of amazon not too long ago

>>
>>6006105
Masterpiece Star Saber with KFC Simba attached.

The fucker owns whatever shelf you put him on.
>>
>>6006255

Yes, but then they added paint apps in friction areas just to piss everyone off.
>>
>>6006132
I don't think girl transformers sell period. Only adult collectors want them. It probably would have been starter to bundle them with a bunch of male characters like what they are planning with Nautica for TR.
>>
>>6006243
UW Bruticus is absolutely horrible. CW is the vastly superior one.
>>
>>6006255
dunno if they fixed them on Liokaiser but Skylynx's ratchets are actually super easy to fix. The tab that fits into the ratchet gear is actually a separate piece that rests inside the leg. The reason his ratchets suck is because that piece sits too low for that tab to catch on the gear so it just kinda rubs on it, resulting in floppy joints. Just take the leg apart, pop that piece out, and put something in there to lift that piece up higher, like a small rectangle of plastic, a short spring, or even a tiny piece of paper folded up several times. Put the piece back on top of that, put the leg back together, and boom, he's fixed.
>>
>>6006262
>Only adult collectors want them.
That's why you only see maybe 1 or 2 female characters in the lines aimed at kids. I think ROTF was the last one to have more than 2 girlbots.

Ratchets are fixed. Plenty of paint apps. All new heads. Nice Arms Micron included.

As for the negatives, >>6006260
Also, in most sets the jet molds have loose joints and tabs. My particular set had the unfortunate issue where one of Killbison's horns is fused to the gold paint.
>>
>>6006270
Thrilling 30 wasn't the line aimed at kids so what I said still stands.
>>
>>6006132
Windblade sold just fine. It's not that there is no demand for female characters, it's just that Victorion is hot lazy garbage. The torso is just Hot Spot so it has all the same problems he did. Two of the limbs are identical, save for the mirrored paint job, and the other two limbs are just the same boring car mode we've gotten a dozen times over. Top it off with the fact that none of the characters even look like girls and the awful color scheme and you get a really mediocre toy that nobody wants, especially not for MSRP. I know part of the problem with her design and components is that it's what the fans voted for, but Hasbro still could have done a much better job working with what was voted on and producing something that actually looked half decent. From what I hear, she also suffers from a lot of QC issues so that doesn't make her especially appealing either. If it's anywhere near as bad as G2 Bruticus, which it sounds like it is, I want no part of that.
>>
>>6006271
hair dryer and an exacto knife? Might help to cut it free, though you'll probably have to repaint the horn afterward to cover up the gold still stuck to it.
>>
>>6006279
That's my point. They can sell when they don't look like shit.

Don't worry I fixed it shortly after getting it (a month ago). The paint was fused all around the hinge. Had to open it up and nudge the horn out forcefully. Thankfully all the damage is hidden when you assemble it back.

It's probably a very unlucky QC issue, I wouldn't worry about getting one with it. At least i haven't seen anyone else with the same issue.

How so? I have all the pieces, I just haven't opened them. I like the blue the UW used on Onslaught, and i'm a sucker for the 'correct' (no Alpha Bravo, Offroad, Rook, etc) g1 combiner teams, pic related, so I feel like i'll appreciate the shuttle more than the jet.
>>
>>6006292
QC issues everywhere. You're almost definitely guaranteed the leg tabbing issue with Onslaught, the shuttle mode hates tabbing its legs together and has a head that comes off so easily you'd think it's a Headmaster, Brawl's waist is almost definitely going to be floppy, and Vortex' rotors have a tendency to pop off. It's such a massive disaster it's amazing, not to mention how ugly the paint job looks.

Ignore this>>6006308 all the figures ended up more solid than the Hasbro version, Blast-Off does have some issues, but you should be able to fix them easily.

The only problem I found was Onslaught, who could suffer from paint chipping on the combiner chest, and on the combiner pelvis if you transform him to vehicle mode.

>>6006292
> grey painted legs to match faggot cartoon model

The Combaticons are one of those situations though where their cartoon models are huge deviations and if you prefer the toys then the cartoon models look like an abomination to you. Thankfully based Hasbro did good

Really love how different Optimus Primal feels with a faceplate and without. Really gives me a who different personality. As a kid I used Ultra Optimus Primal as an OC do not steal Beast version of Black Convoy, and his signature weapon was the mace, so I 'm glad to have a version of that mace here. that said, it's really cumbersome, and seems to weigh as much as the figure. I'm worried about displaying it with the elbow raised too long, I'd worry it'd loosen the joint.

I hate that it doesn't have any kind of sculpted fur texture like the original did. I know it's accurate to the television show but I don't really want a robot with a "cgi gorilla from an era when the cpu powerful enough to render animated hair was still a far away dream" alt mode.

Scale
>>
>>6006364
I was apprehensive at first, too, but in hand it doesn't feel like an issue at all. I think it's a good compromise between making it look detailed like fur, and not being too busy like some more detailed art or customs of Primal are. Rendering the fur with a lot of detail is interesting, but it usually just seems uncanny. Most of the time it just looks uncanny

In a lot of ways, it feels more like a figma or other Japanese anime figure than a regular Transformer . Going in with that mentality makes me enjoy it more
>>

Cheers! And as an equal-opportunity mecha/robot enjoyer, I love TFs! Haha, it's also nice to scratch that robot itch without having to spend $60+ every now and then.

Drifted away for a bit as I wasn't too interested in Combiner Wars, and this made me kind of ignore Titans Return. Picked up Skullcruncher and Blurr when Walmart marked them down to 10 bucks though, and it made me fall in love all over again. Enjoying the heck out of TR!

>>6006500
Can definitely see why, I'm also having a lot of fun with his vehicle mode too! Overall he may very well be my favorite out of TR so far, with Brainstorm as a close second. Blurr would challenge 'em if he had just a couple more highlights of color in robot mode, but I still really like him too.

He's alright, if the treads could rotate to the back in botmode to avoid the "hanging" look and the cockpit wasn't floating in mid air in altmode he would be great.
>>
>>6006542
Brainstorm is just straight up weird in the paint department. In a line where you can't even get painted wheels 90% of the time, he had so much of it they had to put it in straight up stupid places. I'm really curious as to how him being a retailer exclusive as well as single packed in a case changed his paint budget vs. an average deluxe.

>>6006537
If you like him, check out the nonnef ankles for him. It's weird spending 10 bucks on an upgrade for a 15 dollar toy, but they improve him a ton.

I know, and it's even more surprising the painted colors actually match the molded colors. Hasbro tends to fuck that up in most of their figures.

Man, that's the even weirder part. The teal is visibly different between the nosecone and body, but the brown and cream on his arms is basically flawless. I didn't even notice it was paint for a week until I looked into one of the holes where he pegs together for transformation.

There is absolutely no excuse for this.
You guys are paying over $100 for an super up leader class toy, it should not have QCs like that.

Captured Prey

>>6006745
I'll email them monday about it, never had an issue like this but they've never done me wrong.
>>
>>6006745
It's closer to "Voyager" scale
Thats aid, classifying these toys in the scale established by an 11 year old toyline meant for retail toys is silly. Those terms only stuck because of all the casuals who jumped on after the first Bay movie. If we got the Bay movie a year earlier we'd be saying it's "Command Class" or "Mega Class". at any rate, comparing Optimus Primal to a retail toy from wal-Mart should make it evident that its not the same level of quality, even if a Leader class Optimus Prime is bigger its noticeably cheaper made.
>>
>>6006752
The higher quality a toy, the higher the percentage of possible fuck ups, and also concern for those fuck ups, no matter how minor. Hot toys a severely guilty of this, to the point where I've seen people gleefully point out that their $200 Batman figure probably won't last 20 years.

But I digress, MPs have more paint, more detail, and more pieces than your regular transformers, so there's more things to mess up.
>>
>Realize I have 12 combiners

Shit, barely have enough space for the future Trypticon, Predaking, or Piranacon.
>>
>>6006754
You're just reaffirming how fuck up these common factory errors are considering the cost.
>>
>>6006755
>The higher quality a toy, the higher the percentage of possible fuck ups
So why is Hot Toys not always riddle with errors?
>>
>>6006440
That was part of my point. Victorion sold like shit because it looked like shit and was just a bunch of lazy retools of male characters. Windblade and Arcee sold well because they actually looked like good toys and were female characters that actually looked like females.
>>
>>6006755
You are paying $120 minimum, not counting tax or shipping, on this. That is a large price tag for how common this fuck up is, also I find weird as hell you anons can be so chilled getting fuck over on pricey imports but witch hunt/shitpost thread after thread over similar QC issues with Hasbro releases. Hell you are basically telling me the more expensive it gets the more broken it will be.
>>
>>6006766
I was actually using Hot toys as an example because I've had bad luck with them. My superman had snags in the costume, ASM2 Spider-man's face got covered in black stains, magnets that have fallen off, clothes that snag, etc.

>>
>>6006771
Windblade barely holds together in either mode and heels collapse
>>
>>6006772
Because customer service will(hopefully) help us out with this. QC issues on pricier toys have always been easier to deal with for me, providing you have the patience. With retail stuff its harder since there's no gaurantee you can just find the same figure at a store, or if companies will work with you to replace that figure.
>>
>>6006772
I like how that one anon put it once
>It's like the fox got the grapes, ate them, found out they were poisons, but wouldn't tell anyone they were suffering.
>>
>>6006782
customer service with Mattel and Hasbro is usually top shelf assuming you still have everything that came with it like the box so they can have a serial number to follow, they will out right replace broken/mismanaged figures and parts and if not possible give you the choice of replacing it with an equal or greater valued product on hand or the refund.
Also there is no middle man, where it came from BBTS, Target Walgreens or Hasbro Toy shop, as long as you have everything including proof of purchase they will take care of you directly.
I have dealt with them on big and small purchases and it's been worth it.
I'm sure Takara has similar if you speak the language and I am also aware different countries might have different service.

But that's all a huge moot point because you shouldn't have to deal with this for the price you paid for it.
It's basically getting smack in the face and then asking if they can smack you again but with the dick.

I bought the mace-less one for about $60 or so way back when the yen was weaker and AE had it on preorder. So in the last week I only had to pay for the one with the mace, and shipping for the AE one.

I bought two for a few reasons. One, the mace was announced after I bought my preorder for the first one, and I wasn't sure if the mace would be hard to find later on. Second, I wanted to support more MP Beast wars figures, so I see it as a possible investment in getting more. Third, I'm keeping them in two separate displays, one with regular transformers, and the other with other mecha heroes from non-TF series.

Anyway, I'm not buying too many retail TFs at the moment.

Picked up CW Sky Lynx at Toys r Us for $10. All the CW voyagers are on for that here in Canada this week. Of the ones they had at that store, he seemed the most interesting as a stand alone.

If you want nostalgia, you should tell us a bit more about the stuff you had as a kid. The Generations line (and its predecessors) is all about remaking old designs and characters, so you might be able to get a fresher, upgraded version of your favorite childhood bot.

If you want a fun toy to mess around with, the current Titans Return lineup may be right up your alley. It has vehicles as well as robotic beasts, and a line-wide gimmick that gives you smaller figures that can interact with any toy you buy.

Well I'm 18 now so I was into transformers around 2004-2008. I remember really liking Soundwave in the G1 cartoon when I watched it wherever. The constructicons were also really awesome. I'd go and get one of those really nice Devastators but I can't justify spending $100+ on nostalgia. When I watched the shows that were on it was Energon and Cybertron but looking back neither had particularly toys or characters and reading the TFwiki about Energon was a keking cringefest now that I can see Energon for what a mess it is. So I dunno what I really want, what would you guys recommend based on my vague ramblings?
>>
>>6007042
For G1 shit, CHUG and MP is the way to go. If you're looking for a modern, styzlied Soundwave, the WFC Deluxe is a recommended option, especially if you can get your hands on the United paintjob. If you want a G1 accurate one, the MP is the only way to go, although that one is quite pricey. Hasbro is reissuing it soon so that's the cheapest option.

The TR leader class is worth mentioning too.

Clearly he stated even 100+ is too much, so I'd say TR soundwave is the closest thing to a cheap g1 soundwave he might be interested in, there's also the previously mentioned WFC soundwave which costs more than it's worth, or the voyager FOC design (which is basically the WFC one ballooned up) but these designs are very derivative to the original.

If cost wasn't a issue, I'd recommend the masterpiece soundwave aswell.

Buy a Deluxe, they're $10 right now and all pretty good.

Soundwave is a rough character to get a good toy of because the last guy in charge of TF had some odd ideas about the line--for example, Soundwave couldn't just be a fucking tape player because nobody would know what he would be because nobody uses tapes anymore. Nevermind that the only people interested in a Soundwave toy already know what a tape player is.
So fast forward to now and the new guy in charge doesn't give a fuck and made a new tape player Soundwave. He's like $45 and alright (not amazing, just alright).

But the Deluxes and Voyagers ($25) right now are cool.

I suggest the red humanoid, Rumble (or Rewind if you're going with Blaster). He's definitely the best among these guys.

Amazon and ebay gets them from time to time but sometimes the mark up is dubious. I found them under the name of who makes the metal tins but have gone full stupid and forgot the name I'll look for it when I go back and get you a link. Also they had toys patents for wall art of OP, Powermaster, OP and Fort Max, as well as these 30th anniversary wall covers of Transformer toy adds throughout the 80s.

>>
>>6006556
>Why didn't you like CW though?
It's pretty obvious. You either like combiners or you don't. A lot of the single toys in CW took a major hit in quality for the sake of becoming an arm or a leg, and even then some of the combined forms were weak as fuck. Meanwhile, TR toys are all very self-serving, and their gimmick doesn't require any compromise at all.

I like the idea of combiners, but really nice ones just can't be done at retail prices, and turd parties generally just suck.
>>
>>6007543

Voyagers and Leaders have pinheads and helmets because of that.

Sentinel Prime and Astrotrain (which share the same mold), Galvatron, um...Alpha Trion. Technically the Leaders are triple changers because they have a base mode.
>>
>>6007560

Blasters visor doesn't work and only PM Prime hides how pinheaded they are and PM only works because it's a full helmet/head.
>>
>>6007478

>>6007487
>The lower legs on MP-10 should have really been extended, like what that oversized MP did.
Bleh. I understand what they were going for, but I don't think it turned out very well. It makes him look far too lanky, and the gray they painted on the rear fenders just makes his legs look scrawny. There is room for improvement on MP-10's legs, but not like this.
>>
>>6007540
>>6007554
Hardhead is a really fun toy, so is Skullcruncher/Skullsmasher (the alligator). If you see Galvatron and can get past the face mask thing then he's great aside from that. If Wave 2 is around you then any of the Deluxes like Chromedome or Highbrow, Mindwipe or Weirdwolf are fun.

If you see Blurr or Scourge (and you will) neither of them are strictly bad toys but their colour schemes could be better, and are in Japan. But if you see them on the shelves and don't mind the colours then by all means grab them.

All the Voyagers in TR are triple changers, so. Sentinel Prime is an okay toy if you get past the colours; Astrotrain is a repaint and looks better. Alpha Trion looks neat but his third mode is shitty and only there for when he gets retooled into Broadside.
>>
>>6007561

>>6007249

Don't see how that's an issue. If they were the same price it would be an easy choice for the MP, but it's 4x the price. Not everyone wants to drop $100+ on something they may fiddle with a few times and then forget about.
>>
>>6007576
thanks for the info, do all the TR figures have the weird headmaster gimmick? What I'm really wanting now is a Blitzwing but it appears there aren't any in production. Are there any other triple changers like Octane? I remember having a Universe toy of him back in the day I liked
>>
>>6007589
Yes, anything bigger than Legends class is currently a Headmaster.

Also, both Blitzwing and Octane are coming, but not for a while. In the next couple of months you'll see a new Optimus and Megatron in the Voyager class; they will be made into the two Decepticon Triple-Changers sometime in 2017. If you want those two you'll have to wait.
