GCI are making swords. Anyone have any experience with their stuff? I kind of want some.
>>
>>5966941
I have a ton of thier energon cubes, and the waist armor upgrade for rex. They rock. Plus the doc is great about providing customer service.
>>
>>5966941
That's cool and all but am I the only one getting a little sick of those swords? I know the swords aren't exactly unique within the fiction but now it seems like third parties are passing the out to characters like fucking candy.
>>
>>5966941
There's a shitload of different versions of that sword, do you know which one it's based on? I know of the original one that came with drift, the maketoys one that came with their tailgate, and the MMC ones that came with hexatron.

>>5966803
I dropped my preorder a month ago because I figured he'd be one of those things that couldn't live up to my expectations for the price. Think he'll be out in time for tfcon? If I saw him in person I'd probably cave.
>>
>>5966957
>>5966954

I think its original molding. There's been:

>Hasbro Drift's sword
>A gift in the Maketoys Battle Tanker packs
>MMC Hexatron had 2
>A mini one for IF overlord
>Maketoys Hurricane upgrade
>MMC Nova Prime has two
>A fancy one with Fansproject Dai Z
>Maketoys Gentoo
>a mini one with Iron Factory Drift
>These swords

I want the green one for Steelcore
>>
>>5966957

BBTS got their ten day notice yesterday. I preordered at that point.
>>
I'm quite fond of this design and want one. Is it too MP-10ish to get carried by NA retailers? Where would I to buy one if a NA retailer didn't carry one? I've never directly imported a figure before.

I normally like neon colored swords (I have a couple skybreakers), but those are a little garish. From the thumbnail I straight up thought they were freeze-pops. Also, jesus, that's way more versions than I thought.

Go look at some of the reviews for him. That could help you decide.

>>5966974

Yeah I saw someone post about it in these threads last night, so this morning I put in a PO myself. Hopefully they have enough to cover the PO's. He'll be popular I'm sure, but his price is also going to keep people from buying.
>>
>>5966968
Original molding or not, the design is still the same.
>>
>>5966941

Did someone steal the mold for MMC's Hexatron swords or something? It even has the same japanese(?) writing on the blade.

>>
For those that care GT J4ZZ is now in stock at TFS.
>>
>>5967708
I'm saying that KFC is still complete shit. Reviewers and insiders told us "they really stepped up this time" with every new release since Transistor and every time it was nothing but shilling. Reviewers only tell us what the company wants them to say or they'll stop sending them free copy. Welcome to the real world.

To be fair Bobo Skeleton shilling for them has convinced a few people. Frankly I am not convinced especially with how backheavy their Victory Saber is and Bobo blaming Takara for not engineering Star Saber to be sturdy enough.
>>
>>5967932

Star Saber has some shit tolerances before you even strap on Simba. It seemed like a poor choice for an add on without making it a half kit and including new ratchets.

I never watched Victory so I don't know how accurate the thing is but Victory Saber looks super unproportinal.
>>
>>5967932
>To be fair Bobo Skeleton shilling for them
He's shit on pretty much every KFC release minus their Blaster and Junkions. Just because a reviewer actually likes a figure, he's shilling?

Seriously, if you want to know what true shilling is, watch Bens Collectibles.

The wings don't bother Me, but people tend to don't like the way they stick off the shoulders, though.
>>
>>5967965
>Imo he has really changed his tune about KFC
Maybe it's because the company has actually improved over time?
>>
>>5968098

A better question is how did they survive long enough to even have a chance to get better? They've been churning out raw shit to begin with, most 3P's don't seem able to survive even one bad release, Hell, some of them fold up on a GOOD release because it didn't sell enough.

Is Keith loaded beyond belief or something?

And I will admit I've never thought of buying a single KFC anything because of their reputation of being raw shit, but even Bobbo seems to like that Victory Leo and robot lions are a weakness of mine.
>>
>>5968123
>Is Keith loaded beyond belief or something
I think so, the word is he owns a bunch of the 3P companies. One would wonder why the one with is name in it doesn't make the best product of those, but whatever.
>>
>>5967522
Please post pictures the recent KFC releases you own so we know you aren't just blowing smoke out your ass.
>>
>>5968123
>Is Keith loaded beyond belief or something?
I've wondered this myself. I bought a few of the KFC Casettes and they were universally panned as garbage...yet he kept pumping them out despite shitty QC and shitty sales. I got the SG Squawkbox as gift from a friend who didn't collect Shattered Glass, and sure enough, it was utter shit.

How he's managed to be in business is beyond me. Especially when companies that produce really figures like Microblaze Creations went out of business after ONE (successful) release.

His combined mode is decent and millage may vary for you due to mixed opinions on it. I however have had a blast with the set and the only real problems I have are his knee's not locking up properly which can be easily solved by a fan mode or a mod.

I personally think the individual modes outshine the actual combined mode but that's because of the knee instance and the old combiner ports the set still uses.

Overall its probably a gamble but its sure better than the combiner wars counterpart.

What's the issue with his knees?
>>
>>5970177

Weak knee joints for his bulk IIRC.

Honestly hoping they do a V2 release for Liokaiser that fixes the problems.
>>
It has more to do with the ports on Cerberus being overall too loose.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1_7n603tSg

You could fix it with this simple fan mode or mod the ports entirely.
>>
yo I just won exactly $600 off a scratch off. I promised myself Id use any winnings on toys. Ive narrowed it down to feral rex or Hades. Which do you guys recommend?
>>
>>5970189
Knee joints themselves are racheted hard enough that you can barely move them.
Actual problem is that thecombiner joints are terrible. They work on the arms with zero issue whatsoever, but for some reason the knees are so floppy that they can't support him in any way after a few minutes. Means he can look mighty nice in a display case but thirty seconds of play and he starts crumbling. I currently have mine displayed all in alt-modes since honestly the thing holds up as a team better than as a combiner.
>>

I just saw someone selling all 7 Feral Rex bots for $350 on TFW. Then spend the rest on IF legends to go with it.

>>
>>5970455
Oh, like a bunch of deluxe size constructicons that use the CW limb ports? I'd be down for that.
>>
>>5970492

Why the fuck no KO/3P has put out a downsized UW Devy is a mystery. I want a properly scaled Devy to fit in with all my other CW/UW 'bots.
>>
>>5970542
>>5970492

Devastator will never be scaled properly. All the bots are around MP height but Devastator in the cartoon held Optimus like a grown man would hold a deluxe figure.

Mass shifting is a bitch.
>>
>>5970602

I just want one sized the same as the CW/UW combiners. Because it's really fucky that Hasbro decided Devy had to be goddamn retardedly huge, but every other combiner was the same height.

3P's aren't helping either what with their fetish for making him retardedly huge.
>>
>>5970609

Everything third party is generally migrating to the fuckhueg wing of design philosophy.

Constructor, CityBots, Gigapower dinos, FT Jetfire, MMC Carnifex, etc.

We're gonna see 9-10 inches being the standard height with 3P figures eventually.
>>
>>5970627

Carnifex should be about as tall as a combiner though, given he was as big (or bigger?) than PM Prime, and PM Prime was the size of Liokaiser.

Oddly enough, being a foot tall means he's about the same size as MMC's Predaking, Star Saber. and the CW/UW stuff, so he is in scale, of sorts.
>>
>>5970609
>>5970627
Its easy to see why, people would rather have a $120 "MP" than a $80 "Voyager". at a higher price and size point, 3P becomes more competitive with what official companies put out.
>>
>>5970692

I'd rather have the Voyager. Bigger toys are harder to pose due to their weight wanting to send them tumbling over in more action-ey poses.
>>
>>5970144
I have the yellow version. It's a nice piece although the spikes are easy to break off (also easy to glue back together). The gun is cool, I guess.
>>
>>5970197
doesn't that completely kill any knee articulation though?
>>
>>5970950
Yeah its just for neutral poses.

There's a better way to fully fix it but that involves modding it which is in the channel.

The broader point being is that there is no point in being too picky about scale because there's really no way to engineer literal magic like mass shifting.

The closest thing you're getting is something like Toyworld where you have MP scaled bots that combine with additional parts to make a much bigger combiner than the bots could alone.
>>
>>5970960
>Scale based off the show makes no god damn sense.

Its never been about what was directly animated on the show, but how they where supposed to be depicted based on the scale chart.

>>5971285

>The official scale isn't how they were depicted but rather how they were supposed to be depicted

For what purpose?
>>
>>5971006

Doesn't matter, Prowl wasn't a combiner part and Blurr wasn't a headmaster. I don't care if UW Devy had unique engineering specifically to him, as long as he was the same size as the rest of the CW/UW 'combiners.

Or in other words, my problem isn't swapping, I don't care about limb/body swapping, I just wanted him the same size as the rest.
>>
>>5971293

I really hate scramble city. Making a toy more complex because it has to be both an arm and a leg instead of just one thing almost always results in severe compromise.

My tin foil hat leads to believe why that's why CW/UW combiner limbs have so many retools/repaints. I really don't think they can/are too lazy to engineer more unique limbs.
>>
>>5971295

I don't care if they're swappable. I'm only going to put them in their G1 configurations anyway. But it's pretty clear UW/CW were hindered only by budget, in the same way everything is. And even then, for the price, I think they turned out great. They were good, modern updates.
>>
>>5971291
Because that's how it was meant to be, and how it was shown often in better animated episodes. You're not going to base figures off human error.
>>
>>5971295
Most scramble city limb designs are probably simpler than a lot of post 80's non-SC combiner limbs. Something like BW Rmhorn or the rail racer team are more complex than a Scramble City limb.

2 Ocular Max releases (this and another clear sphinx)
1 MMC release with Deaths Head
1 FP release with Diaclone Grimlock

What else?
>>
>>5971492
Yeah, she's more articulated than their windblade in a couple ways, but he alt is almost a complete wash. She's pretty fiddly in robot mode too, the backpack just sorta floats there. I basically just wanted a small arcee with above-average articulation to go with combiners though, and she nails that.

Also, watch out for her hips. At least on mine, the mushroom peg for the thigh swivel was so tight, the hip ball socket got a hairline crack in it. You might wanna oil the peg or something preemptively if yours is tight too.

He's probably the best balanced "big" figure I own. He's not as big as you think though. He's actually smaller than the G1 Sixshot by a bit, if you don't count the wings. He's around Leader sized.

Usually the big figures with balance problems are combiners, as their weight distribution is usually weird and people think ratchets will somehow magically make gravity stop existing or are fixes for something being naturally off balance.

And yeah, Hex does have really big feet. Definitely a plus.

And my MMC Overlord shipped, feels good man.

BBTS, and I shouldn't have said "shipped", because it didn't ship. I should have said "It's going to ship, in like a day or two because I hit the ship my loot button".

Since I do the loot thing, even though the last 3 things I bought were singular items.

I figure it'll actually ship on Weds and be here by Fri.

Related lyrics, I got oversized Breacher in the mail today. The only differences I can see are no c-clip on the gun or arm kibble and the wrists don't swivel so they're stuck in curling position. That and a few minor mold changes. But overall he's very nice and decent plastic quality.

I always wanted this mold in a bigger size so I couldn't not get him. The lack of thigh swivel is more apparent at this size though.

I think it's funny to look back on how the fandom's definition of "G1 accuracy" has changed. For the greater part of the Generations line, as long as a toy hit upon the major design elements from G1, it was considered to be "G1". The MO of the Generations line was to basically re-imagine G1 bots to modern standards, but ever since the MP line rebooted and we've gotten a flood of toys that are very strictly based on the G1 animation models alt. modes, the autism levels have flown of the charts. Now there are fans who piss and moan when the Generations line embraces any sort of original design that wasn't part of the cartoon. Suddenly, Generations is now supposed to be "Masterpiece for 16 bucks". The criteria of what a geewunner will accept as accurate has become insanely strict.

Like that Jazz you posted. 4 or 5 years ago, that would have fit well within the definition of "G1". Although what's up with his fat face? Time to lay off the energon treats, there, Jazz.
>>
>>5973911

Donno, some are too liberal with what they consider G1ness, like sticking Gravity Builder or Warbo Bruticus in a Takara Masterpiece display when the aesthetics couldn't be further apart.

I don't really give a fuck since I just buy whatever I like. Though the number of forum wars transfags will start with each other over what goes with which autism shelf is hilarious. This is especially when scalefags and sizefags get involved.

This is pretty much how I feel. Nero Rex, Commotus, and soon I'll be snagging Striker Manus to cover various bases. I don't plan on buying/collecting a lot of them, just the ones that really, really appeal to me.

Hell I was looking at official Hasbro stuff and nearly balked on buying a Lugnut figure. Then I looked over at my childhood toys, made courtesy of Hasbro, and it took just a little bit of examination to realize why that's a really short-sighted idea.

Are there even 3Ps doing Classics stuff anymore? Everybody seems to either be doing MPs or some aesthetic wildly different from any official toys. Well, MMC's on the IDW niche and almost no one else seems to bothering for that angle, so I'm happy they're around at least, as I like a lot of the IDW designs and most of them don't see realization as toys. >>
>>5974451

Yeah, the Whirl is a bit out there, but for whatever reason, I really like this design of his.

I don't really know MMC's thought process as of late though. Their previous DJD releases were pretty spot on, but their other Reformatted drops were closer to stylized IDW/CHUG-ish. Which these newer releases are also closer to stylized IDW. Which I'm alright with, given their designs in IDW also vary up quite a bit depending on artist.
>>
>>5974510
Any regular release from FansToys and BadCube. Some MakeToys figures from their Re:Master line (they're all supposed to be MPs but some like Hound doesn't federally fit since he's so Classics-ish) and Mirage from MMC.

Though more likely it's just greed and trying to save money via retools.
>>
So aside from Fort Max/Warden, are there any 3rd party versions of the Headmasters-characters that don't require you to detach the head for transformation?
>>
>>5974585

There's an interview during the middle of Feral Rex production that said Reformatted always was about getting multiple uses out of a design. Hexatron was always planned on being Sixshot, Greatshot, and Shadow Maru (so far we got Sixshot, black and yellow Sixshot, G1 slavish Sixshot, and Greatshot... still waiting on Shadow Maru). Three of the six Feral Cons are based off the same skeleton, and two of the others are also the same skeleton.

It was explained that mold making was so expensive that MMC had to plan ahead on multiple uses of a mold to be able to do the line.

UW devy is the most accurate but his proportions are garbage and he suffers from cheap hollowness and lack of detail. Some of this can be fixed with 3P upgrades.

Herc is a lot more comic inspired and is a lot more poseable with less shit proportions. All of the bots are fully realized with no hollow bits. If you do get him get the rage kit for added fun times.

I'd recommend you eat dogshit before you get UW devy.
>>
>>5976195
Herc also has shit proportions and can't stand straight with his giant boots and tiny tiny thighs. He doesn't look like Devastator at all and the rage kit just gives him giant arms that make him waaay too wide.

That isn't to say UW is god's gift to man either, he has tiny tiny thin arms and his torso is like a brick wall in the worst way possible, so it's really a game of compromises here.

Is it too much to ask to want a cartoon accurate Devastator that comes in at around 12 inches?

Everything 3P comes out looking like shit or not like Devastator at all, usually because they fuck up the head pretty badly, and the UW is too goddamn big.
>>
>>5976626
Yes.

>>5975663
Because he scales with MPs. He is around the size of MP Star Saber, which by the one is also bigger than most combines. He is not suppose to be CHUG size.
>>
>>5976702

Well, the funny thing is, if you take the current combiners as a scale, and put them next to MP Starsaber and MMC Carnifex, they're about in scale with each other, since both of those guys are as big as combiners.

The problem then though, becomes that you'd basically need Legends figures for everyone else to make them in scale with the combiners.

No one has done it yet. Devastator is surprisingly hard to do accurately and I think a lot of it has to do with how much he mass shifts.

Even the ridiculously fuckhuge Constructor figure is not big enough to accurately portray how big devastator is "supposed" to be.

I personally went with GT because I think he's the most well made Dev yet ignoring the stylized nature of him. Constructor was a close second but the combined modes really terrible lank proportions and shit head style ruined it for me.

I don't think the official one is very accurate either sans headscuplt. This is mostly because only half of the arms move and the rest becomes part of the chest mass. This makes devastator's chest look like a big fuckoff brick and gives him noodle arms.

But there's no perfect g1 devastator. I don't think Takara will ever make one either.

Alright, speaking as someone who has actually worked with MMC on some occassions: For one, it's what this anon said: >>5974708 More than that though, the goal of Reformatted is to do updates of existing characters with a lot of artistic license. Any designer is basically free to do what they want, as long as they stay in the 'Cybertronian CHUG' style. Now where the clash in style comes from, is really the older designers versus the newer ones. It's true that Griffith fixed Predaking (and trust me, having seen the original renders, you would not believe how much of a shitshow it was at first), but he's not really that involved as a designer. For the most part, it's been Cassy Sark at the wheel. But lately new people have come in, like the designer who did the DJD figures and Drift/Wing and the Guzzle guy. With Sark looking to focus on more original projects like the upcoming crowdfund for Unrustable Bastards, I think Reformatted will undergo bigger changes as these new people continue to pump out new stuff that doesn't necessarily adhere to Sark's established aesthetics.

Don't count on more comic-only stuff, though. Not unless it's a big name established character. They don't really sell that well, unfortunately.

Just a dumbass seller.
>>

I thought of that too, but sometimes the seller will list an item at a ridiculous price because said item actually sold for the price at least once in the past.

>Don't count on the flame deco though

Even MTME has the flame deco, it's just far more stylized than the other Hotrod versions.

>Sadly, things like these can always happen with factory shenanigans.

And Lockdown isn't bad because of factory shenanigans, he's bad because his back kibble is poorly designed. They needed a few more folding bits to compartmentalize him more.

Please whisper to them to fix Rodimus's legs maybe, I would insta buy him if his legs just looked more comic accurate.
>>
>>5976981

Oh, I meant that he won't have outright flame decals.

>>5976985
Agreed to be honest.

Too late for that bro. Once money has been spend on tooling, there's 0 chance of big changes happening anymore.
>>
>>5976985
yeah I hyped for lockdown until the saw the egregious back kibble. Now its a solid pass. Hopefully they can do something with it before Cyclonus drop or that will another pass as well :/
>>
>>5976995

From watching reviews on it, it wouldn't be so bad if the wings could sort of fold around the back nose cone shit. Just having them stick out looks kind of meh. The nose cone could also probably use another hinge or two and some hollowness hidden with panels just to fold it and compress it more.

Well fuck. Guess I'll have to wait and see if the overall look with the paint can sway me. Thank you for all the info though.

I'm having a hard time on debating on getting MMC Carnifex. Help me overlord!
