Every time I see these things all I can think about is how much wasted potential they are. We could've had good, Legends scale Dinobots.

Instead we've got "Just what the fuck ever" cybertronian tankbots.

That doesn't stop anyone from making Legends scale dino dinobots though. This was the more interesting take that no one else sans spark toys is attempting.

Besides you'll get your wish with DX9 who just shit out 2 protos for legends Dinobots this weekend.

But my wish is that IF did them, because all of the IF offerings have been good while the DX9 ones have been really scatter-shot in terms of articulation.

I still think people would've rather had the regular Dinobots than cybertronian tanks.

I don't get this. Many HasTak folks in the official thread spend just as much if not more than me on toys despite me exclusively buying third party options. They just make up the cheaper prices with more stuff instead of pricier stuff.

A lot of them will blanch at the idea of paying 100 dollars on a combiner limb but they're also the same people who bitch if a MP Lambor remold is more than 70 bucks.

Quality of quantity.

>>

Amazon about 4-5 days ago. It's back to $70 right now though. It was sitting at $40 for a week.
>>
>>5944088
Why? Was this some kind of sale? I'd rather have Defensor but $40 is a steal for any CW stuff.
>>
>>5944102

Amazon just randomly discounts stuff. Especially if it isn't selling and it's a bigger item. Vicky must've been clogging the shelves something fierce.

The only way to tell if anything is off is to put stuff on a "Want" list there and just check it every day, or check message boards, but those aren't always concrete since sometimes people don't mention shit until after a sale is up. I've got a ton of shit that I watch on Amazon just to see if it gets a discount. I should've nabbed Vicky myself, but the sale came when I was broke. Hopefully it'll go on sale that deeply again at some point.

I'm not sure if the combined space cruiser mode can go into its other base/jet modes without partsforming. It looks like it can. The only mystery is the big jet nosecone/cockpit since that huge strip of yellow does not appear anywhere in robot mode, but it looks like the entire thing telescopes into itself and might spin around to form the body mass.

I'm trying to gauge just how big the jet is going by the robot mode, and I keep wondering what the fuck kind of stand is going to support something this big?

Hasbro releases smaller toys with smaller budgets then my third party stuff because they don't have budget limitations for a mainline audience.

I'd rather be around 3p elitist more, at least they are sipping tea while arguing unlike the Hasbro plebs that throw shit at everything when arguing their cheap $15 toys are the best thing since slice bread. The Takara crowd are usually the reasonable ones in that general thread, you see the Hasbro guys always trying to start a fight with them and at the end it's the Hasbro guys fighting with each other while the Takara guys they are trying to troll just watch in the side lines wondering what just happened.

>>
>>5945678

Ah damn. Alright. Yeah, everyone seems to have the base figure in stock already, but I want the figure and the bust so I don't have to pay shipping twice.
>>
>>5945689

I was in the same boat but ate the charge because apollo was going fast. I think BBTS already is out of stock.
>>
>>5945692

Nah, BBTS still has the main figure in stock. But the bust PO's are sold out at BBTS. I guess I probably should suck it up and just order them seperate though.
>>
Hey, so I was thinking of ordering some Bootleg Masterpiece figures from "Takasa Tony"

Do those count as "third-party" figures or should discussion stay in the main TF thread?
>>
>>5945703

Honestly I see those brought up all over the place, so here probably wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>5945703

There's a lot of moralfags in the tfg thread that wince about IP theft or whatever so it's probably fine here.
>>
So my choices are moralfaggotry or elitism? I don't like those odds.

Is it even that moral of an issue? Hasn't Takara/Hasbro already made their money from the molds since they aren't making anymore.
I see this is a chance to get the figures I "missed" for a more fair price than importing them from Japan costs.
Anyway, the Masterpiece Wheeljack, Sideswipe and Bluestreak and Bumblebee are all like $26 shipped on eBay. Cheaper than Aliexpress even.
>>
>>5945718
companies don't give a shit about you beyond your money. Stop caring about them so much.
>>
>>5945744
I just found a nice Devestator bootleg. These are some of the better ones and only cost about as much as a Deluxe TF from Hasbro today. (how come Third-parties don't charge prices more reasonable like this?) I do like the alternative stuff like this provides for people who just want the toy.
I picked up their Baldigus back around 2001 or 2002 and the quality is decent. They just don't use diecast. They're not as nice as those expensive bootlegs that use die-cast and shit but they're still decent.

These used to be all over eBay and Big Lots about 10 years ago. I think they were like 9.99 or 14.99 at Big Lots. This guy still seems to have over 1000 of them left.

If anyone can find their Landcross and Defensor on Aliexpress, please post it here. There is a guy asking like $80 for this Devastator on eBay right now.

>>
>>5945838

There's a lot of repeats of the same character but with super diverse aesthetic deviation.

The two recent devastators are both super different but neither one is very G1 accurate, for example.

The one third party bruticus has QC issues and is super stylized.

No one has tried a G1 menasuar yet either.
>>
>>5945872
Yeah, I did think he looked kind of ugly. It doesn't look that much like Devastator.
It's more than I thought at first. It's $30 but $21.59 for shipping. Still an okay deal if the quality is good, I guess. How much does a legit one go for these days?

>>
>>5945934

Do you not know how to reply to people?

Also, I don't want a TFC anything. I'd rather see Generation Toy, MMC, MT, or even TW give it a shot.

Also there's more to MP then just being G1 styled. There's a certain premium feel to it. It has a lot to do with weight, paint, fit and finish, etc. That just isn't delivered in a 20 dollar deluxe and certainty not when you stack a bunch of deluxes on top of each other.
>>
>>5945979
GT is Warbotron so there's your MP bruticus.
>>
>>5945995

I thought Transformission was GT.

What's the point of all this fucking rebranding anyway?
>>
>>5946003

I thought some youtuber said Warbotron was never meant to be a company name, just the name of the Not-Bruticus.
>>
>>5945979
The cartoon accuracy is the primary focus. If it's not there, it's not a Masterpiece.
>>
>>5946003
Don't know about TFM but WB and GT are the same. Same styling and released a mini transformer kit with their combiners. Don't know about the name changes. Maybe to avoid paying taxes or something.
>>
>>5946039

That's a super fresh opinion but I'd never display the mediocre Laserwave figure over the categorically superior Quakewave. Granted the difference is way closer for expensive official figures than it is between 100 dollar mainline combiners over 600 dollar combiners.

TL;DR I'd be quicker to call the Warbotron Bruticus an MP over the CW one merely because it's more of a premium product despite it's issues.
>>
>>5946039

I dunno mang. MP sort of refers to both a scale that's sort of impossible to achieve and an aesthetic that even Takara deviates from.

Now you have CHUG figures in the MP scale and even the MP-esk figures are taking design liberties from the constantly shifting sunbow animation models.
>>
>>5946059
Nobody would be calling anything from Generations MP.
>>
Hasbro has hallow lightweight plastic. MPs feel heavier and solid.
>>
Will Wei Jiang MPP-10 scale well with the upcoming Wei Jiang upscaled CW Defensor?

Considering that deluxe limbs become voyager, and Hot Spot is now leader class, which means former CHUG Leader should be upscaled to Wei Jiang MPP-10 29cm.
>>
>>5946307
How could it scale with something that's not from the same continuity? If you're talking G1 Defensor scale, no, it'll be too small.

Plastic in general on this guy is good. Most of the pieces are cast in a soft enough material so that nub removal is easy and causes little stressing.

because 100 x 4 = 400 + 200 = 600, which is more than 60. 70 is also more than 60, and both 70 and 60 are more than 40.

This is basic mathematics.

Pretty okay, since they're different sculpts there are a couple differences though. You get 90 degrees out with the right, and almost that with the left. You'll bump into some stuff trying to put the arms forward and spread out with both as far as I can tell, but it depends. The left has some forward and back movement as well due to the transformation.

In general articulation is kinda limited, but that's not really a huge deal for me.

MMC is in a weird spot with designs. They were accurate during the Hearts of Steel stuff they did until Hexatron and Rex came about, then they were all about comic 'inspired' where the figure was 70% comic accurate with a twist thanks to Cassy Sark. Then came the DJD which are attempts to get close to comic accuracy again with Griffith. Now we're back to comic 'inspired' with the rest of the reformatted line and Overlord with Sark at the wheel again where everything has to be remolded into something else.
>>
>>5947413

And now looking at it again its the same crotch shape and same collar too.

Cassy must be trying to make a base mold and attach shit to it to make it other characters.

The problem is that MMC isn't really a big company money wise but they want to become one by becoming the way to go for one specific type of figures (like FT is usually considered the way to go for MPs by so many that they're one of the richest 3P out there) and they can't find their niche. Either their products don't interest much people or tons of alternatives always appear to eat their potential profit up.
>>
>>5948346
people are begging them for more IDW and mtmte accurate figures though, theres posts on their facebook for more comic accurate Whirl and Rodimus figures instead of the ones theyre doing

>>
>>5948416
Looks really nice. I think I'm still going to wait. I don't have the money right now, for one, plus I'd like to know what HasTak's Overlord is before I buy anything. I might end up getting both (one IDW, one Masterforce). I've also fallen a bit out of love of IDW Overlord since his pointless appearance in the last MTMTE arc. Either way, he doesn't seem to have sold out like Tarn did, so I'm imagining he will be easier to get down the road.
>>
>>5948387
I think it'd be a great niche, assuming it's actually profitable. I don't actually know how many people will buy a "classics" Pharma compared to MP Dinobots. I assume the big money must be in MP as so many companies are focused there. Although that might just be a function of China having gotten G1 (one of the first Western kids shows to make it in, IIRC) compared to a smaller market of Chinese getting the IDW comics.
>>
>>5948459
I forgot to say that I might also wait out MMC to see if they make a more Masterforce redeco/remold down the road.

>>
So, there are a LOT of third party Dinobots out now.

Is there a classification as to which represents each character the best? Barring Planet X since those are representing different designs.
>>
>>5948570
I'm not expecting a total overhaul to make him 100% Masterforce, just maybe a new head, the Godmasters, and maybe a few key panels (like the shins) changed.
>>
>>5948786
Just off the top of my head:

Planet X - pretty faithful to the FOC
Fansproject - original designs, not really accurate to anything, although their Snarl is much more G1 than the rest

Both of those are also classics-ish scale, whereas the rest are MP.

Fanstoys are all pretty damn accurate. However, they seem like they might be redoing (some of) them in the Perfect Fusion line, where the PF Slag is much more cartoon-accurate than FT's.

Gigapower are going for a bit more toy-oriented look, imo. Their stuff is also a fraction larger, so it may suit your scaling desires better.

There's at least two others who are classics-ish in scale, but also combiners, with the pros and cons of that. I don't really follow them closely, so I don't know about their quality (I seem to have heard some bad news).

TL;DR
Planet X for FOC
FP for classics "reedun" original designs
Fanstoys/Perfect Fusion or Gigapower for MP depending on your own tastes.
>>
>>5948736
Cynicus has had three issues of the normal color, one in a con exclusive color, Anarchus had to have one reissue and Kultur sold out on all American sites within a few hours and is even sold out at Planet Steel Express now. Make Toys first release of Trash Take sold ok, and then their second figure Rear-End sold out at BBTS ans a few other places until it got a reissue.
So no they're selling fine, I don't know what you're trying to pull. And if Make Toys really did discontinue their Manga Mech series there were other reasons besides 'it didn't sell well' because they sold fine compared to most 3rd party stuff.
>>
>>5948786
FT+PF
>>
>>5948827
Doesn't mean shit unless you know how many were produced.
>>
>>5948827
I think MMC is just being smart and making multiple, smaller runs. Technically, it's a little more profitable to make one larger run, but making more than sell and having them languish after is much, much worse in general.

Honestly, it's not really an issue as long as them keep reissuing them. If we'd only gotten that one run of Vos ever and that was it, it'd be different.
>>
>>5948839
How do we find out how many were produced then?
>>
>>5948841

They've stated the sales of the first three and dictate how many of the big boys they will make. I think going with multiple smaller runs part of that.
>>
>>5949115

I don't know how many people care about him but I was in on carnifex the moment I saw him. Even if HasTak comes through with one it's going to be hollow as fuck and be riddled with compromises for the base gimmick.

This and MMC's Whirl and Hotrod. I really like the MM Metro, but holy fuck the head is TOO big even for a superdeformed character. It'll be a thousand times better looking with a proportionate head.

I'm really interested to see how TFC's Road Caesar works out. It's a unique combination scheme that is a bit of a challenge to modernize.

so is there any possibility that someone else will try their hand at Impactor? I mean spartan's robot mode is great but I'm not really digging the kawaii SD duck tank he turns into.
>>
>>5949202

At some point probably. He's still in the comics.

I'm waiting for a Spartan reissue at this point, I missed him.
>>
>>5948416

Looks good, but flying tankplane and the base mode are just hilariously worthless looking. The base mods on official Leaders are better. Then again I doubt they were the intent or point of the toy, and robot/tank/jet modes all look good.
>>
>>5949232
The base mode is definitely just a bonus for sure.
>>
>>5949288

Definitely. It's nice it's there, it certainly didn't have to be, given that this is based off IDW Overlord who definitely doesn't have a base mode. It probably wouldn't look bad if it had real ramps connecting the leg halves to the main part, instead of those twiggy, thin plastic bits.
>>
>>5949232

I'm glad they didn't bother actually engineering a decent base mode cause then carnifex would probably be boxy and suffer as a result of compromise.

All the HasTak toys that have the base gimmick are kinda square looking.
>>
>>5949335

I wouldn't mind boxyness. To me thats how Transformers generally "look". But then again I grew up with G1.

I really like the HasTak base stuff too, or at least Blaster anyway, since he's the only one I own.
>>
>>5949335
Which I think will be fine on a Masterforce-style Overlord, which is probably what HasTak are doing.
>>
>>5949340

I can respect that. It's like taking the new tf blaster/soundwave mold and comparing it's proportions to the mp you can see how THICC he needs to be to open up to be a playset.

It's just not quite to my taste. I'm not sure why everything is a base and headmaster now but whatever. Anything is better than more fucking combiners.

It's a mix of Lockdowns. He can do the hookhand and gun face, turns into a ship that vaguely resembles his animated ship and comes with Drift like swords, plus a bunch of weapons in a little locker to swap from to resemble his collection.

IDW Lockdown is a less movieverse version of his HFTD toy.
>>
>>5949488
There are, but the market moved to MP-scale being the major one about 1-3 years ago.

Anything IDW comics based is classics scale. Anything by Fansproject or MMC will likely be at that scale too. Most of the combiners are somewhere in that ball park too.

Anon, they were the last thing Impossible toys did. There's a reason why they've been on in stock and on a growing clearance price for nearly two years.

You basically bought a KO, oversized G1 Minibot with an attempt to give it more articulation and a new face on it's head flap. Plastic wise it's probably the best you're going to get from that company, but it's not really saying much.

It makes for a cheap desk toy, just don't expect too much from it. Or for it to really blend in with any other line.

The funny thing about Tarn's mask is that if you draw/model it as the Decepticon symbol, it never looks right.

But if you draw/model it with the inspiration of an angry owl, it looks perfect.

got a question for you guys. I'm on the fence about getting a Hexatron or a Commotus. I like the look of both, and I especially like commotus's tank mode. But I feel like my latest TF figures haven't been all that interesting to transform which I think hexatron would solve.

Is there one you would recommend over the other? If you have both which do you like playing with and posing more?

Why not both?

As for playing and posing, I honestly like them both for different reasons. I do tend to keep Commotus in tank mode more often, because I bought him mostly because I loved Metal Slug. Sixshot is a bit harder to pose with other 'bots because he's just plain tall.

Well, Hexatron has six modes. But as with any multi-mode changer, some are going to be weaker than others. And the more modes, the more weird stuff you'll get in those modes. That said, Hexatron is pretty much the gold standard for a 3P figure still. Big, solid, poseable, etc. And I guess it all depends how much you like his various alt modes.

Not to say Commotus is bad, he isn't. But if I had to choose, I'd go with Hexatron over Commotus, and I did: Hexatron I've owned for months, while Commotus I've had for just two months. But I also owned Sixshot's G1 toy as a kid, and still own it, so he had more nostalgia going for him than Commotus.

I think they're both worth owning though.

Most common complaints I hear about them, just so I'm not blowing sunshine up anyones ass, is usually Hexatron's aesthetics and Commotus just being a big, fat block of black plastic. Which he is. Hope your display areas aren't dark, or he will literally blend into them. Oh, and my Hexatron came new in box without his guns. I was sent free replacements, and obviously that isn't the norm, but just putting that out there.

I don't know why Hasbro and Takara can't whip up some ball jointed feet on the shit they're putting out now. It's not like it increases the part count or anything. It's like they're making an effort not to include ankle rockers where they can. It breaths life into the toy.

The most I can say about Hardhead's Nonnef feet is that they don't fold in for the tank mode, which might have been Hasbro's priority. You can make them feel less conspicuous by turning them inward in tank mode, and really the added stability and articulation is very much worth it.
>>
>>5951912

Get both!

I want Hexatron but Commotus is awesome.

Great alt mode and a cool transformation.

It was my first 3P figure and I adore it. I dont mind it being all black because its a damn good model that catches the light lovely.

>>
>>5953279
I've only seen Bobo Skellingtonfeatures' review but he's pretty bad. Paint applied badly (like "orange peel" badly), mushy sculpting and loose joints everywhere. Also the tank mode doesn't hold together at all.
>>
>>5953279

Seems excessive >>5953388
the only accurate thing here is the tank mode is kinda 'eh'. Only issues I had was one of the shoulders being floppy until I tightened up the joint then it was fine. The real issue I found was that he fits awkwardly into a collection if you're worried about CHUG scale and matching with most Optimus toys, he'll be a little bit shorter.

Thanks a ton man. I'm hoping for both. I like hexatron's look and most of his ult modes. The wolf is a little weak for me.

>>
>>5953651
>The wolf is a little weak for me.

A lot of people say it is, and it probably is, but I really like robot animal designs.

Personally I always thought the weakest mode was the gun. If only because it's basically just the space ship with the wings folded down to form a handle. But thats how the original toy did it more or less too (and even in fiction thats basically what it's always been), so it's not like you can fault them for that.

Listen to this guy.

I've got him and I really like him for what he is and I think $50 is a pretty fair price for him.

He's got a few floppy joints on mine but they either can be fixed by tightening screws or they don't really matter (mine has one floppy toe piece that droops if the foot is suspended but lays flat when he's standing and doesn't affect his stability). He makes a great display piece and poses well, you just have to be mindful of his backpack pieces as they aren't really solidly attached and are easily knocked out. Those are also a little floppy which is probably the worst part but it still doesn't affect the aesthetic much.

While he makes a fantastic display piece, he's unfortunately not that great of a toy. Transformation isn't necessarily difficult, it just isn't fun, and the alt mode you get for the process is fairly weak. I can't fault the alt mode design because it IS accurate to the source material but it does also suffer from a bit of floppiness in the turret. It causes it to droop slightly. Otherwise, I have had no problems at all with the alt mode holding together. It's just not a great alt mode.

And yeah, scale could be another issue. Aesthetically, he fits in great with CHUG figures but he is just a hair shorter than Classics Optimus. It's not terribly noticeable unless you have them both standing in a static pose next to each other but it's still a turn-off to some.

Still, overall, I like him. I'm a bit sad that the company went under because their Blaster was actually not that bad either and I was looking forward to their Soundwave. I think they really could have been a great company if given the opportunity to learn from mistakes rather than suffer for them.

Yea, I was aware of the clearance issues for their Grimlock. Like I said, I watched a couple of reviews and from what I gather:
>Sludge is solid as hell
>Swoop is small with a simple transformation, but it works
>Grimlock is a good figure with the only downside being the dino tail/bot leg clearance issue
>Slag's transformation is pretty complex, but both modes are pretty solid once transformed
>Snarl is pretty fragile due to Planet X sticking so close to the game design

I like the way they all look, but Snarl is the figure that worries me the most. I probably would have skipped him, because I've read he had a lot of QC issues. But he's part of the team, so I can't NOT get him. Plus, I think they'll go nicely with my Iron Factory Ashura Knights.

Just wanted to know if there was anything in any of the figures in particular that I should keep an eye out for.

Snarl is the one you don't want to take a tumble with all that thin translucent plastic. I'm more scared of storing him properly though. His biggest weakness is the hip ratchets and loose feet balljoints. Second version is apperently a lot better though, but you don't know which one you got. His elbows and hand sliders are also oddly designed for a figure of that scale. They feel rushed and not well thought out. Like the parts count went into the spine and they have to make do with simplifying the arms. The rear legs don't do much at all so there isn't really any other excuse for it.

Sludge really should have the Paddles neck, neck transformation and head size IMO, but that nigga is built like a fucking tank. Everything that is important is on super strong ratchets, and he needs them to stand thanks due how swole the top half is. Use the dino legs as heels when you fold them in to the calves and he won't go anywhere. You can pretty much shake him and nothing will go anywhere. He's my favorite of the crew.

Swoop needed more locking bits, ankle tilts, and wrist swivels to get the most out of him. Wish his wings could do what the game did with them while also beefing up his frame. He's the weakest, but not awful.

Grimlock is king because of his Dino mode. Like his robot mode is fucking great with the proper bulk and weapon sizes that the Generations toy couldn't deliver, but the Dino mode is glorious. By far the best grimlock at a non MP scale. Bar none.

Slag is second best next to Grimlock in the bells and whistles department. Solid looking and functional beast mode, extremely clean robot mode. He does look awkward in some angles from photos, but it isn't bad at all in person. Really wish the rest were made with the same care as him and Grimlock.

Also to note: Paddles is floppy and not well thought out. They really screwed the pooch when Sludge was so damn solid.

Also you'll get a fuckton of weapons. Having all of the regular 5 nets you an arsenal.
>>
>>5954565
Which figure is that on the right?
>>
>>5954565
Thanks for the info man, that's really what I was looking for.

Snarl being so fragile is a real bummer, since aesthetically, I think he looks the best. I'm hoping I get the 2nd run of the figure (I'm assuming I will since I'm ordering them so late after release), but like you said, you never know.

I'm also a little disappointed about the lack of ankle rockers and especially wrist swivels for Swoop. One thing I'm curious about, though, is if he wings can fold in half while he's in robot mode (like his G1 toy did).

Also, I didn't even bother with Paddles. I saw a review of him and he looked like garbage. Plus, he's not an original member of the Dinobots, so I didn't feel bad getting him. I WILL get those female Dinobots that Fansproject is making. They look like they'll go well with the Planet X dinos. And as a bonus, they'll also piss off the SJW's. Seriously, you should see the shit storm going on at TFW about it.

MMC's Hexatron. Gold standard of 3P stuff, everyone recommends it, etc. Basically a super solid choice you can't go wrong with unless you don't like the aesthetic or just don't care about Sixshot.

MMC's Feral Rex if you can swing the huge amount of dosh on a pile of plastic and like Predaking enough to do that.
