For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

>Ask here if you've got concerns and all.
here's a question: what does your workflow normally look like? All I'm doing this go around is a little panelling and a flat coat. What I've been doing is cutting out pieces for the next chunk or so, sanding as need, [insert panelling here had I remembered that the first few rounds] then spraying the pieces, and while I wait for them to dry I start cutting and sanding the next pieces, swap out the sanded pieces with the flat coated, then assemble and repeat. Should I just cut, sand and spray everything at once and disregard that marvelous sprue labelling? What's the most efficient way to go about this? Because I don't want to flat coat the orange pieces on my model I can't take the lazy "just build the damn thing and then spray it" method.

Fuck whoever designed the backpack for the SD Nu. The parts that are supposed to be white on the inside have about a 2mm gap for you to try and thread some masking tape through and did they make it a nice rectangle shape to make it a bit easier to line up the tape? Haha, fuck no they didn't it's some kind of retarded shape with angles everywhere so you need a dozen pieces of tiny tape all finely positioned around it and you need to position it all without actually being able to fit anything but a toothpick at best through the gap.

I want to buy MG 1/100 Sengoku Astray because I think he's beautiful, but is it worth the almost $50 it's selling for on Amazon? Barnes&Noble is where I've been getting all of my kits but they don't have a wide selection in store so I'm moving on to Amazon

>Unrelated question, is it possible to paint over transparent plastic for a different color?

Different companies mak clear color paints (Like Tamiya) but it's all about the layers. IF the base clear plastic is colorless, paint whatever clear color you want over it. If it's say, clear blue, you can't really paint it clear red, yellow, or orange as the base color will show through and make it look different shades of green or purple.
>>
>>5868305
Non-Japan based ones and mostly local hobby shops. My local store had them, but they were all gone within a couple of days because they let you take basically as many as you want with a purchase although you're only really supposed to give out one per kit.

Polystyrene is already considered an easily ignitable material, you don't need to coat it 100 times to light it up. Also, that's just a nuisance for the neighbors.

On a side note, can't believe they sell built MG for just 10 bucks in Japan even if it's junk. It's great for harvesting parts.

What are the standard specs an compressor should have to be adequate?

I'm thinking of the Neo Air Miniature Compressor. It's really nice and small, but:

>Working pressure from 1 PSI to 15 PSI
>On/Off and 3-speed control button
>100v to 240v power supply

So, is it any good?

Anyone ever been to Elite Battlegrounds in NJ? Apparently they have some kits, no idea about prices though. I figure I might head over later this week unless their prices suck.

H-Mart in Edison actually carries kits in one of those small stores in the back, as well as most Barnes and Nobles. But yeah like another anon said, Gundam Planet is probably where you want to go for a big selection of kits.

Funny how I can justify buying 30 kits over 5 years, but not an airbrush and compressor. It's the incremental purchases which makes me feel like I'm not just throwing tons of money at this hobby.
>>
Has anyone here ever seam welded using CA (super) glue?
You can't get Tamiya thin where I live, and the only type of proper plastic cement I've been able to find is humbrol poly. I tried a little and it seems way too thick and hard to work with, and the needle hardly pushes anything through (plus one of the two units I bought was completely dried out, I think they must have had it in stock for a decade; I'll go replace it tomorrow).
So I was wondering if superglue will get the job done. I only plan to weld the big, obvious seams, and I will sand and paint afterwards.
>>
>>5869786
Cement is supposed to melt that stuff.

Super glue will only place a huge chunk of semitransparent hard shit in between the parts.
>>
>>5869729
I swear you need a cleanroom to spray gloss in or some shit.

>>5869783
Yeah, I recently made a list of my backlog, and wondered if the money was better spent elsewhere.

Also my box of tools that cost a hefty sum as well.
>>
>>5869545
>>5869701
Gundamplanet is an hour away from me and the tolls back and forth are like $14 altogether. It's definitely not worth it to me unless I plan to hang out the entire day around palpark or something. Elite Battlegrounds is 15 minutes of local roads, so there's no investment in it.

Also, never knew H-Mart had gunpla.
>>
>>5869787
I know, but if you apply the superglue thinly enough wouldn't it still work? It being transparent doesn't really matter if you paint the piece afterwards.
I'm just wondering if anyone here has tried it before.
>>
>>5869792
http://otakurevolution.com/content/laymans-gunpla-guide-guide-to-glue
>>
>>5869792
Heard of it being used as a filler, or attaching tiny pieces like photoetch, but never otherwise.

I hate working with superglue anyway
>>
>>5869794
Doesn't really help since he's only talking about gluing pieces together and not welding. He also basically says superglue is fine asides from fogging, which isn't an issue since I will sand and paint afterwards.

>>5869796
It seems it would be easier to work with than what I have.

I found this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dVReb2MxgE
His results seem okay, so I guess it's possible to weld with super glue if you're careful.
>>
>>5869794
>>5869801
Apparently I'm an idiot who can't read.
>Since super glue dries hard I've used it effectively to close seam gaps prior to painting.

Is that Panel Line Accent Color stuff from Tamiya any good? It seems like a really convenient tool.
>>
Does anyone here wash the trees when they take them out of the box? I've heard conflicting information about whether this is important or not.
>>
>>5869817
I don't because by the time I'm done with them they'll have gathered a lot more dust and shit. I wash them after I finish surface prep
>>
>>5869792
Superglue is harder than styrene so you might have issues with sanding it smooth.
>>
>>5869817
Absolute waste of time on Bandai and newer Kotobukiya stuff.
>>
>>5869817
There is no point, since you are going to sand all your pieces as part of nub removal and then you will need to wash the mix of dishsoap and plastic dust off your parts so you will be washing everything anyway later in the process.
>>
>>5869786
>Thick Cement
Sounds like you're using the wrong method. For regular cement, with the parts separated, apply it to the mating surfaces, wait about 20s for it to start melting, then press the pieces together, apply clamping force, let it set.

>Superglue
You can use Superglue + baking powder. Baking powder acts as an accelerator and instantly hardens the superglue. Work on the seam immediately after applying baking powder because it'll be rock-hard later. Be warned that this acts as plain filler, the bonding between the two pieces is weak and can still crack along the seam.
>>
>>5869860
>apply clamping force
>how to fuck up the dimensions and tolerances in one easy step
Depending on how retarded you are with cement you can lose up to a whole mm if you clamp it.

This is a shit advice to someone who never seam welded before.
>>
>>5869875
Not really if the alignment pegs are still there and you don't apply your retarded amount of clamping force. But the point of that is anon's using the wrong method for the product.
>>
>>5869875
I didn't even need clamps to lose a whole mm.

No. HGUC still refers to High grade universal century, although "UC" itself can refer to unicorn. Model Master is, at best, only good brush painting and basically lives off of being stocked at crafts chains like Hobby Lobby and Michaels. You really need to try out a bunch of thinning formulas to get anything worthwhile even with just brushing.

Never mind, I saw it, it's about a 7% tariff for either a hobby saw and paints. If you buy that long Tamiya saw, or what not, the price plus shipping and other fees is either equal to, or more expensive than getting it retail.

I'm still stumped on figuring out other metallic colors with what's available (Can't deal with Model Master or Alcad). Like, how do I approximate doing that Light gunmetal color that comes in that Tamiya spraycan? Is it layering normal gunmetal on white, or is it layering two kinds of metallic paints?

I saw forever ago he ran a Facebook store and got it posted here because the autist stalkers who follow his every breath felt it was important enough to post. I actually ended up buying from him here and there and despite slow shipping it was hasslefree.
I guess he made some stupid comment about a chicks cosplay and the JHC girl went full Tumblr Trigglypuff and has literally never let it go.
Autists here latched onto that and tried again to push the scammer thing. I think if he really did scam people there'd be proof to be posted besides TJ's Video which i'm sorry doesn't prove jack shit other than TJ has no idea what he's trying to accomplish.

If you DO get proof then i'd love to see it because this shit really has gotten old and is annoying to see you guys derail any thread he posts in.
It always becomes what it is right now which is just naysaying and trying to convince people without evidence.

Maybe for Tumblr Rape cases that works where you're a women/thing/whatever gender and instantly get credibility but here it's 4Chan which last I checked is an Anonymous Image/Forum board and even in the beginning it's stated

I'm actually retarded /toy/. A while ago I bought a few kits from a local store just cause they looked like fun, but I never read any sort of guide. I assembled everything with nothing but my two bare hands. Despite that, I think they came out okay for the most part. Pic related.

So, here is how my first attempt at priming a couple of pieces for painting went.

>start off good, for the first few pieces I get a nice, even coat
>spray one of the leg parts (FAG Architect kit)
>shit, I oversprayed it to hell
>paint is all runny and all detail is lost
>I panic
>run to the bathroom
>try to wash it
>does jack shit
>maybe something stronger will do
>dunk it in a small plastic cup I filled with turpentine
>doesn't seem to help much either
>take it out and try to scrub it
>it fucking breaks, felt brittle too; must have been the turpentine
>don't notice until later that I also spilled some turpentine on the counter and it reached some red plastic bag
>leeched color off the bag and onto the counter
>I now have a permanent pink stain on one of my bathroom counters and a broken FAG leg

I actually managed to glue the leg back together, sanded off what I could of the primer, and re-primed it. It looks.. okay. There are definitely some smudges and it doesn't look as nice as the other leg, but I feel I've managed to salvage it well enough.
The pink stain is still there, though.

For the future, how do I remove primer from a piece if I've sprayed too much on?
>>
>>5871965
as far as i know, you don't, you spray very light coats by passing over the pieces, multiple coats are required to cover it entirely. this prevents fuckups

This is the piece I fucked up (top) vs the one I had done before (bottom).
I did do multiple passes, I don't know how the fuck I didn't notice that it was on so thick.
>>
>>5871984
Too close maybe?
>>
>>5871965
I've used purple power to clean off primer. Soak the parts and scrub off primer with an old toothbrush. Or you can sand off the primer.
>>
How thick is Krylon colormaster compared to Krylon fusion?
>>
>>5871965
For future reference, turpentine is an oil while most spray primer are lacquer. Turpentine won't strip it, but it sure as hell will destroy the plastic if you dunk parts into it.

And never panic during shit like this. It's always fixable and panicking leads to stupid shit like staining your counter.
>>
>>5872003
Solid advice, thanks.
Any advice on how to best salvage the piece (pic >>5871984 ) now?

After finishing the MG Turn A, I went ahead and made the HGCC version as well. I was pretty disappointed in the HG, but I guess I was really spoiled by the quality of the MG, even if it's just out of the box. I'd add some panel lines, but I'll probably get back to both of them when I have time to paint.

>are you saying
Not that anon, but when it comes to product designs I frequently find the elements about a particular object that I like, are the same elements that other people dislike. And vice versa.
So it is pretty likely that your summation is incorrect.
Another incorrect view would be to say you think it's ugly because it doesn't look exactly like every other vanilla gundam ever made.

Is the Infinte Justice Gundam any good for a first time MG kit?
>>
>>5872077
>I cannot understand what people post

No, I am not a contrarian. You are just incorrectly understanding things. Here is an example:
Lets say you and I both see a robot. We both form an opinion, separately, about this robot, and write them down on a piece of paper.
When we compare opinions, we find we have opposite views of it's qualities.
Because these opinions were formed independently of one another, they are not contrary to one another. They were completely separate.
I know this is a hard concept to understand, but if you use your googles on the hard words, you should be able to piece it together.

yeah, but if it's generally accepted that a design looks like shit, and you're saying the only reason you like that design is because it'n not like other cookie cutter designs, without providing any reasons why you like the shit design based on its own merit, you're just being a contrarian.

I did practice over the last couple of days. Most of my attempts have been pretty good, I don't know how I managed to fuck this one up.

Is it possible to very gently sand a primed surface without taking off the primer? Most of the leg will be painted in darker colors, but some of it will be painted white and I'm afraid it'll really show on the end product.
>>
>>5872167
Tell that to the Dendrobium.
>>
>>5872172
People sand primer (and even paint) every damn day. There is really fine sandpaper out there you know.
>>
>>5872178
I've got some 1500 grit paper. Will that do or do I need to go buy finer stuff?
>>
>>5872172
>Is it possible to very gently sand a primed surface
Yes, but why if you can remove it chemically?

Sanding destroys surface detail and doesn't get the primer out of panel lines, holes etc etc. The only reason you sand primed parts is when you need to fix surface imperfections. Sanding to remove primer is just dumb.
>>
>>5872168
That will only make it dumber.

It's already too busy OOB.
>>
>>5872183
>Yes, but why if you can remove it chemically?
I'm still not sure how. I don't think you can get purple power where I live. I think it'll look manageable if I can smooth out the surfaces.

Will they ship it via air? I was under the impression that you couldn't ship hazardous goods by air, no matter where it's coming from or going to.

I'm still not sure I want to wait that long, though. It doesn't look as bad as in the picture in real life, and I think it'll look okay if I smooth out the surfaces and paint it carefully.
>>

No, they ship by ship.

Was this the last kit you will ever paint?
>>
>>5872227
Probably not (I also grabbed Gourai and Jinrai), although this kind of makes me feel bad about the whole thing. Maybe I'm just too shit with my hands to build models.

Also, the prices in that website seem very low. Lowest price for Tamiya acrylics is like 3$ on ebay (from chinese sellers) and they sell for 1.5$. Are they trustworthy?
