News:
>Kotobukiya is making reproduction kits for Arnval and Strarf based on new Machineca (マシニーカ) bodies designed by Apsy.
>Plastica.jp will sell blank bodies once he's happy with the final design.
>Megami Device (メガミデバイス) is another proposed line using that new body, so they'll be compatible too. They could be GKs, model kits, or figures. Too soon to know.
>Frame Arms Girl continues with an unarmored kit plus the architect is up next, with another mech on the way.
>Blade teamed up with Megahouse to make some cheaper, 8cm tall 1:1 battle robot figures called Desktop Army. Their plan includes 3d printable add-ons to appeal to customizers.
tldr it's a good time to be a Shinkifag.

Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay/Amazon - only if you hate having too much money.
>Mandarake - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images (they sometimes get mixed up).
>Yahoo Japan Auctions - same kanji as above, you'll need a proxy, try Noppin or FromJapan.
>Taobao - search 武装神姬 and use a proxy like Taobaoring, Taoboafocus, or Bhiner.
>Amiami occasionally gets some preowned.
>Check the BST, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World for sales.

How many Materias do you guys have on order? I may have gone a bit overboard. I got two blacks, one white, and I just ordered the tanned one from Koto's store for a total of 4.

/mms/ please shame me into correcting myself, or encourage me to fall further. Either is fine.
>>
>>5396432
One of each though, I would have gotten more if I had the money. I just have the feeling I might butcher one of them so I'd like to have one that looks nice and hopefully the other that's salvageable.

3 white and 1 slutty pink. I need some extra parts after building the Gourai option parts kit, Materia is the cheapest way of doing it considering I can't think of a way to send off for spare runners.

I'm really excited for her.

>>5397963

This is why they put of those option parts gks. The torso parts are interchangeable with the plastic parts.
>>
>>5397963
A: You're wrong.

B: Even if you're right, you realize these are model kits, right? As in, you can either not assemble that part or simply cut it off afterwards with ease, right?
>>
>>5398015
Yeah, it's kind of annoying that in America, the easiest way to get the pieces you need is to order an entire other model. It's killing me that if I just got another A runner, I'd be able to have two entire Gourais.

If it wasn't for the shoulder joints being so different, I'd be able to cannibalize a Hoihoi's joints at least to an extent.
>>
>>5397963
Its a model kit. Just don't put them in. If it is like the previous two releases they aren't required for the actual torso to hold together, just for the armor to attach to and for detail. You will be covering up the area with clothes anyways and won't be able to see the gaps.

I built, fixed the seams, and painted my Gourai. The parts are easy to swap on and off if you sand the contact areas just a little and mask them off when painting (If you intend on painting it). And yes, removing those back parts do not compromise the engineering in any way. Judging by the pictures Materia shouldn't be any different in terms of that despite a couple tweaks in engineering in other areas. Just leave them off if you don't plan on attaching armor and covering them anyways.
>>
>>5398438
Well, I fixed the seams on the flesh parts at least.
>>
>>5397146
There's a color chart in the guide. If it's not the skin tone that Valona is stated to be in that chart, you likely won't get a good match.

This is kind of contrary to it too (and is a photo taken by the official Kotobukiya blog of a Materia wearing Picco Neemo clothes, nonetheless), so I'm going to have to lean towards the idea that that attachment part is removable.

Mr Color Character flesh mixed with Mr color flesh, I don't remember the exact ratio I used, jsut that it was mostly character flesh with a little bit of flesh to darken it. You'll need an airbrush setup including respirator to use those paints as the thinner is toxic.

For another method, if you don't want to bother painting flesh tone, because it's a pain in the ass, I didn't bother painting mine, which I posted up here:
>>5398674

All you really need to do is make some custom colored putty as per this tutorial (note you need to use PLASTIC CEMENT, not superglue):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E64rsyuTo8

Just make sure to apply some cement to the seam before you lay down the putty so you can weld everything together.

After that, go over that with a matte clear coat, apply some peach/pink weathering powder (AKA chalk pastel), apply another clear coat, and you're good to go.

Pic related is the weathering powder I used, specifically the peach on the right.
>>
>>5399094
Oh, and I don't really bother making the putty beforehand, it's perfectly fine just melting a bit of sprue on the spot with cement impromptu.
>>
>>5397146
I already checked the chart, and it said "approximately." I wanted to know if that "approximately" was because of the borked up skin color of her body alone, and if the head was a better match to the skin color 3 by itself.

Actually, my son asked for her specifically for his birthday. She's proudly displayed in full armor on his shelf.
>>
Hey, I have a question for Asuka owners...I think the one I got recently has two of the same face. My son insists that one has a small smile, but my oldfag eyes can't really tell, and I think he might be wrong. What do Asuka's two faces look like in your version? Did I get gypped (eh, I still lover 'er), or is she a Shinki kuudere?
>>
>>5399256
Your son is right. The faces looks the same from afar, but one does have a small smile while the other is frowning.
>>
>>5399266
Awesome. Thanks, anon.
>>
>>5399256
Her faces do look alike, the smile on the happy face is so faint you can barely tell it apart. I've seen pictures of people who applied washes to her mouth and it becomes visible.

This is something exclusive to shinkis designed by Fumikane with Valona being the exception.
>>
>>5399278
He loves his kuuderes. Same goes for the FA:Gs, I noticed.

Of course Valona is the standout. Messed up skin color aside, she's a great little Shinki.
>>
>>5399325
Going off of a comment from an earlier thread, I kinda want a mini-t-shirt for my Valona that says "SEMEN DEMON," just for a laugh.

>For another method, if you don't want to bother painting flesh tone, because it's a pain in the ass, I didn't bother painting mine, which I posted up here:

I only painted the flesh parts because I seam welded, which required putty in the end. I had to paint to cover it up and while it's not visible in the picture I applied subtle pink pigment as well.
>>
>>5399339
Fuck you I was trying not to want to dress her up and now i'm picturing her in that and a pair of unbuttoned short shorts
>>
>>5399387
Yeah, I seam welded too, but using that method in the video so it doesn't look obvious.

Other than a slight mistake in the torso that you can see in my photo, it came out pretty well I think. Plus, it retains that translucency that flesh has.
>>
>>5399387
>>5399416
Wouldn't cement and sandpaper do the job? The pieces pretty much fit perfectly.

... the similarities are frightening, artificial life created by man to be the perfect companion/toy, programmed to her loyal and crave a human owner.
Though Shinki's seem to have it way better off, as someone who discovered them through the anime i wonder now how an asshole shinki master would be looked at by others, human and other shinki, as well as his his own, i know they're absolutely loyal but how far...
>>
>>5399739
The games have plenty of abusive masters including terrorists who strap bombs to their shinki and illegal tournament circuit participants who rip their heads off if they lose.

Shink background story definitely explore the darker side to having tiny sapient robots that are subservient to himans. At the very least though, they're not programmed to love you or to follow your orders to the T from the get-go as they have some degree of autonomy as evidenced by the Trike sisters leaving their "master" and then the underground shinki refuge full of abandoned or runaway shinki, and shinki who just went into hiding because their masters died and they didn't want to get formatted and lose memories of their master.

Main reason for buying her. What I didn't know is that she also comes alternate hair buns that look like Roses which I want to put in but I'm afraid of removing them.

On another note, I tried translating Lemuria's bio. Sadly Google Translate managed to get me through the first sentence, which says her personality is that of a spoiled child but for the life of me I can't decipher the second sentence. I think it's talking about her mask.

Probably a different seller's wares on YJA or just a different type from Takk12ZIGEN, who's the usual maker we see at wf with the screws. She did make a whole bunch of different types and colors. She recently said she was retiring the entire line up after last wf though, so the YJA ones are probably your only options right now.

Does anyone have any experience with buying something labeled as having "dirt" from Mandy? Do they just mean roughed up, literal dirt? Any idea? Figured that might mean she needs some new paint but shouldn't be too hard.

My Mizuki Type 1 isn't "dirt" classified, but she has badly rusted screws, one on her right thigh so badly I can't remove it, and the plastic has been discolored by the rust as well.

Fortunately, since I was using my tax refund to buy her, I was able to purchase a skin color 2 Blank and I've been using it as her torso instead, so she's kinda become my default "sexy" Shinki (I swiped the spare panties from my Queen's Gate Alice to preserve her "modesty" LOL). I ended up enjoying the mod so much that I got a second matching blank for when I bought a Fubuki Type 1 (with wings!) so she could be similarly attired.

>>

Worst case scenario, assuming you can't get a proxy, wouldn't you be able to buy one of the cheaper girls like Xiphos and cannibalize her screws? Though you'd obviously feel bad ruining one girl to save another and it's far more expensive.

How do they even make the custom screws? Do you have to do a special order with a machine shop or something, or is that person selling them on YJA just a machinist that makes them from scratch? Or does them being a non-standard size make them just hard to find instead of the impossible like I think?
>>
>>5405311
I assume it's the latter, they put pictures up of the screws and they fit and everything. They don't look as fancy as 12zigen's but, they look nice enough. They're also super cheap on YJA so I figured I'd just straight buy them and not have to cannibalize anyone.
>>
Someone here not long ago looked into bulk ordering shinki screws and got far enough to get a factory quote, unfortunately the minimum was far past reasonable even for a group buy.

I did. Actually now that you mentioned it, I probably did get it from the same guy. Now we need a third werkstra/valona owner to chime in to check. It's not even sure if we'll see Arnval and Strarf til they get released either. I haven't seen any news for them in a long while.

Given Konami's track record, it's entirely possible they might have stepped in at the last minute of production for Arnval and cancelled the entire project just to be dicks to Apsy and the rest that used to be involved in Shinki. Would not be surprised at all.

How do I stop myself from looking at all these cool things I can't afford on mandy and YJA. Or am I just a masochist?
>>
>>5408196
I think everyone loves window shopping, I have fond childhood memories of going over catalogs with my sister and circling the stuff we wanted. I wouldn't consider it masochistic.

It's probably a good way of zeroing in on what you should buy. Make a list of stuff you like, then continuously narrow down that list, sleep on it a couple times, until you arrive at that one toy you want above the rest, and then buy it when you can afford it.

Feels much better to buy something after thinking about buying it for a long time. Makes me feel like it wasn't impulsive, that's the worst feeling.

Im a little confused. Is materia a kit like the previous frame arms girl? Or is Materia an actual figure that doesnt come with much?
>>
>>5411186
It's still a plastic kit. It doesn't come with anything in addition to it, just herself.
>>
>>5411186
Model kit. Pretty much the entire point of it is to be a base for customs and to steal the arms and legs for your other FAGs.

Pretty.

They are both kinda "special" cases in the Shinki department.

Any advice to make her more robot-like? Is the headgear-less hair kit still available? Would gundum hands fit on her?

>>
>>5411516
velveeta and lolibanchou are "special" alright. I can never shake the feeling that konami had a couple of transforming vic viper toys designed and decided to cannibalize the designs to shove shinkis in out of some impression they couldn't just sell them as straight gradius merchandise.

I don't really like the idea of defending Konami after all the crap they did so friggin recently, but the Konami in 2015 is completely different from the Konami a couple years before. Biggest reason for their dramatic change in the first place is apparently some new management or something. The shinki stuff occurred way too early for it to be them just being dicks for the sake of being dicks like this past year. I am fully willing to believe they were having issues with finding factories to produce them cheaply, and if Shinki line was not very profitable towards the end, they wouldn't want to bother wasting resources finding more factories.

obviously the anime started to change some minds, got them looking at other options. Guess they managed to get a deal going with Koto just barely before the practically overnight transformation into the new Konami.

>>5407513
it would depend on the deal they have with Konami. If they managed to buy rights to using the license before the whole company becoming corrupted, they may only have a limited time to make this line before the rights expire and the company refuses to let them renew. That is my prediction what may end up happening if the deal wasn't completely set in stone yet before Konami became dicks, thus potentially messing everything up.
>>
>considering 4500 yen to rebuy a Shinki I already have with extra hair parts
>and 5000 for the recolour
>not that I have any shelf space for any of it
I had forgotten this feeling and was glad for it.

I guess assembly is finished.
Only casualty was the left kneepad joint but it's not such a problem, though for the price it fucking hurt.

BTW, what am I supposed to do with these runners? The manual doesn't mention them apparently.

Likely junk parts left over from what gourai molds they reused.

I recognise the black sprues from the gourai kit, might be leftovers? I can't speak for the skin coloured ones though.

How's it feel to know that in 10-20 years from now we might have actual shinkis, even if holographic?
>>
>>5416411
>shinki in a bottle

It just ain't the same... Just like desktop assistants that don't do much except look pretty.
>>
>>5416425
Thus the 10-20 years. I'd imagine in time we might see hologram function just built into rooms entirely.
>>
>>5416411
I miss being so naively optimistic. They have the technology to make that hologram waifu right now, but programming even a passably sentient AI is so far beyond what anyone is currently capable of it's a joke. The best you'll get for a long time is a personal chatbot with some scripted comments that might coincide with various home automation functions.

I mean, I'd settle for that, but it's not Shinki-like enough to warrant a comparison.
>>
>>5416522
The concept is pretty similar.
>>
>>5415487
Nice hair mod on one of my favorite Shinkis. This a WF thing or just a singular masutah's custom?
>>
>>5416522
Those chat bots that learn can have pretty interesting and surprising conversations.
>>
>>5416574
Maybe we can combine the functionalities then?
>scripted responses for basic housekeeping/smart-home functions
>plus ability to recognize variations of the same commands
>learning AI that adapts to your inputs
Obviously, like Siri or Cortana, this would probably require it to send data to the manufacturer's servers, and some people are really opposed to it. Then again people continue to use both of them (even if mostly it's just for fun), so it's still a feasible idea.
>>
>>5416662
You'd only require a local server with the appropriate software. For something as small as a shinki, local cloud computing would be a necessity anyways
>>
>>5416425
Speaking of desktop assistants, are there any 'good' ones, whatever that means? I never really had any experience with those, even when I was a kid and Bonzibuddy was a thing.

>>5416673
Can you explain further how this can work with smart-home and stuff? I'm not too familiar with computer science/engineering, but I've heard of Nest (the thermostat) not working when the main server is down. This is probably why I'd always make sure to have manual backups for basic home functions when it comes to implementing smart home functions (if I ever do that to my own house.)
>>
>>5416687
I have no idea about desktop assistants nowadays, they were always gimmicky to me.

I mean, if shinkis are as small as they are, I imagine they'd need to offload some of the computing to a bigger, more powerful machine. So that most of the shinki body can be devoted to battery life and movement mechanisms.

I doubt they'd be able to do any of the housekeeping seen in the anime, but at least they could interface with all the home technology in your place.

I liken in-story shinkis to astromech droids, they take commands from humans and do the computing, number-crunching, and interfacing with technology and relate it back to humans without the need for keyboards, touch screens, buttons, etc. Which is sort of what smart technology is moving towards with the voice command stuff. Just letting your phone be the tech middle-man.

"shinki, order a pizza pls"

One day, right?
>>
>>5416722
Voice commands are kind of difficult for me since English is my second language and my accent might have been a tad bit strong for AIs. I've tried out Cortana and it has trouble receiving my commands. So wherever you are and whatever language the AI is made to recognize, accents might be a big problem.

But that aside, Gatebox seems to be aiming for the 'smart home interface' that you mentioned, and if that's all it wants to do then it's possible to implement. The next hurdle is making it recognize different IoT stuff from different manufacturers and controlling them seamlessly. I'd imagine some manufacturers will be less cooperative than others since they'd want their own proprietary apps or even their own Gateboxes.

Dudes just playing, you don't need to assemble it wearing gloves. It's not really normal for things to break if you didn't force it, although I don't know what you mean by little hinges.

Cracking the hinges on a FAG has been a common issue and noted by a fair amount of people (mine cracked just sliding them in normally, didn't even force it as I am used to models). On your next one sand the peg part down a bit before sliding it in and you should be good. Just remember it for next time.
>>
>>5417015
I assume ge means the elbow joint. Quite a few people have been having the same issue, especially if you painted it. Koto didn't give the joint enough clearance between the peg and slot so it over stresses it.
