Monster High receiving a refresh/reboot in 2016. Characters have new, expressive faces.
>I think MLP is the only re-launch that's been superior to the first version.
I was at Target yesterday and I'm surprised that I found the Birthday Bash Cedar, however, she very much smells like an old school Strawberry Shortcake doll, and I'm not so sure how I feel about that despite how pretty she is.
However, my big find that I nabbed amongst the wreckage was a Courtly Jester.
Leaks from the survey are starting to come in.
Here's the Welcome to Monster High line.
Lagoona's set - her back pack shell is nice.
Basic Draculaura, Frankie and Ari.
Lagoona and Cleo with new pets.
Clawdeen with locker and Lagoona with scooter.
Frankie's Science lab and Voltageous hair Frankie.
Ghoul to Bat Draculaura.
And a new collection of mini figures.
The rest are pretty much basic unarticulated figures.
>Cleo's wrappings permanently molded onto her body
>Spectra replaced with a far more bland/uninteresting ghost girl
>Cleo's awesome pet cobra replaced with a fucking cat
I am REEEEE-ing so hard right now
Was hoping their new 'pets' would be part of a veterinarian type deal - like they go to a pet store to help out. Never cared about the pets - but it feels awkward to destroy what they could still work with.
I like the middle Frankie set - as well as the locker with Clawdeen. I'm waiting to see how the Welcome To monster High dolls turn out though.
If only mattel decided to keep the older ghouls mature, introduce younger ghouls - or make dolls of the ghouls obviously much younger (as in they are from elementary or middle school) as in back story themes or memories.
Ghoulia and Spectra apparently shelf-warm like mad (I wouldn't know, I don't pay attention to either very much), so there are people predicting that these "big sister" versions are their replacements.
They lost the Disney Princess line and a massive amount of revenue to Hasbro. DP skewed to a younger audience, so they're "rebooting" to make MH less scary and more appealing to parents of younger kids.
The earlier releases of Frankie and Draculaura with no joints were tests to see if this would actually sell well with the target audience. It must have, because this revamp is clearly going forward full steam.
This is what i am asking - mostly cause in a lot of the stores i have gone to this Christmas season - a lot of the Monster High stuff has been picked over or bought. On sale items have definitely been taken - my toysrus was missing about 90 percent of their dolls.
EAH on the other hand had a bit left over - so have Bratz (Bratz seemed to have a 50 percent off sale going on almost all their dolls at any one time.) and that new science girl's thing.
I went the days coming up to Christmas - and i thought that things were moving smoothly - and i live in a very low income area.
Barbie always sells out - or sells out a huge portion - with MH seemingly doing just as well.
It's *because* MH sells well that they're trying to expand its audience. They want to hook the younger kids in, because parents have the buying power. If they can make MH cuter and more appealing to little girls, and less scary to the parents, they have the potential to overtake the DP revenue that they lost.
It blows, but adult collectors are a drop in the ocean compared to the cash cow of younger kids.
I managed to snag the Rochelle/Garrote pack at TRU For 30% off today. Mannnn this reboot got me sweating. I have so much left I want to collect and so little time before the G1 dolls start getting scalped to hell and back. Or even more than some already are.
Tell me about it. Living outside of the US makes it that much worse.
I've been scouring ebay and MH sales groups on FB trying to find some of the dolls I missed in the past, and between shipping and the exchange rate, it's really just not even worth it. $50 per doll is insane.
And it sucks, because it's just going to get worse with this reboot.
I'm so mad I didn't start collecting until 13 Wishes, because I neeeeed a Clawd and all of the packs he's been in are 40$+, and even his Scarnival doll is like 35 on fucking Amazon. I even remember seeing an original Cupid in Barnes and Noble back when and talking myself out of it. Uuuuugh.
Generally, the dolls that make it into SwagBucks surveys are the final product. They rarely do more than minor tweaks past that point (adding paint to an accessory, or removing a pair of earrings). So, sadly, I think these are it.
So when will these new and improved dolls start showing up? We already have the missing joint basic pieces - ie the Lala dinner thing, Frankie and her dress making piece - as well as the cheaper budget dolls..
I thought we would have at least 6 to 8 more months of the ones we have atm
The survey apparently makes it sound like Shriek Wrecked will hit in Spring/Summer of 2016. They already have the "softened" faces, so it looks like maybe six months? Welcome to Monster High is slated for video release in Fall 2016, which means the dolls should start popping up in July-August, based on past movie tie-in dolls.
i guess the pixies are a thing now because they're going to be in Epic Winter too
Foxanne and Veronicub
It's a reboot. Everything that has happened up to this point has been erased and they are starting from scratch. Cleo now loves cats since Toralei no longer exists.
I personally think the cat suits better given that cats were supposedly treated as royalty in ancient Egypt.
Well, in Mattel's defense, they did release a collector edition for Draculaura with the real nitty gritty about her fucked up past. If they went in a route like that, I think I could live with the reboot a bit more.
It looks like Gil and Catrine are sticking around at least.
>giant stone weight
They discussed in Haunted that Rochelle can't swim because she will sink to the bottom. I suppose she's fucked come the series.
>is this how they kill poor Rochelle off?
Gil and Lagoona are two of the worst MH characters and I wish they would both disappear. I'm sick of their emotionally abusive relationship and drama that is not suitable for a children's toy line. Plus the fact she has an Australian accent, can't stand it.
>The on/off relationship
>Gil's parents hating Lagoona because she is the wrong type of fish/race which causes strain and thus he tries to change her and also change herself as seen in 13 Wishes to make them like her.
Among other things.
Looks like Welcome to Monster High will be in a new animation style: https://www.instagram.com/p/_53s7oLvPs/
To be honest, I kinda like it.
But Operetta doesn't sell. Just about all her releases end up in the clearance aisle.
I suspect that Matty is going to send her down the Memory Hole with Ghoulia & Spectra.
>Operetta doesn't sell
Looks like a great time to sweep her up then, seeing as I can't find Skelita anywhere for a reasonable price.
What I'm most scared of is:
- less joints
- personalities being fucked up with the new paint
- personalities being fucked up in the new series because 'dah reboot'
- characters forgotten or REPLACED which I think is even worse
I hope it'd be so we could keep the g1 high school line and this reboot would be like jr. high school.
In case this means the end for the first dolls, what dolls are you going to hunt down before reboot?
Either by character or specific versions.
Purrseohone and Meowlody, any
Toralei, any except Cirque du Freak and that sports one
Catrine, as many as possible
Clawdeen, Cirque du Freak
Howleen, first wawe
They've announced Ari, who is basically Spectra's clone, but a popstar with lighter shades of purple and a less-threatening face. At the same time, Spectra's nowhere to be seen in the leaks.
Same goes for Moanica. Everyone thought she was going to be Ghoulia's big sister, but Ghoulia isn't anywhere to be found in these new leaks. In the 2Pack for Moanica's release, she's paired with Draculaura.
It's all speculation right now, but it doesn't look good for Spectra at the very least. Ari is a smilier, less cheek-bony version of her with a built-in singing gimmick.
What's with MH and singers?
Weren't people worried about the same thing when Elissabat came out or another cat girl or any character that seems vaguely the same? I feel like Ari and Spectra will have some kind of trading places story line or some kind of bull shit like that.
For Moanica, she could just be another zombie but with a cuter gimmick like Draculara where Ghoulia is more nerdy.
It's something people are always afraid *might* happen, but with the reboot and the skewing away from "scary" and "dark" things, it looks more possible this time. That's all.
No one knows anything for sure yet. It's all just speculation.
Here's a video from the survey, which features, MH, EAH, and Barbie's new stuff.
So Barbie is now a space ranger, those fucking talking puppies of hers are coming back, and EAH is doing yet another story about someone's fairytale parent turning evil and trying to kill everyone.
I speculate that the following characters will not be returning, in doll form at least:
Purrsephone and Meowlody
Nefera de Nile
Valentine and Wisp
Peri and Pearl
Why? Because these guys have either served their purpose as one off movie characters and/or shelf warmed like fuck and are not popular or important to further the MH story. Some also do not fit the new 'Cute' MH ideology such as Operetta's scarred face, Skelita is a skeleton, Peri and Pearl have two heads and so on.
The new "How I BOO" logo is on the following character profiles on the site:
It's interesting to note that some of the newest characters (GSR in particular) are not included, but the BYBY ghouls were. Some people have suggested that this may be indicating which dolls are going to be "kept" in the reboot and which are getting dumped, while other people think it's just a matter of the site not being updated all at once, and that the other profiles will eventually have the same.
I'm biased towards liking the werecats myself, but would be really sad to see Howleen and Twyla go.
Still, Spectra and Ghoulia are in that list, and people also think they're getting nixed, so the How I BOO tie-in may not be relevant to who stays or goes at this point.
>Ok, More megabloks, thats good
>A new Monster high movie and style
> A barbie drone... i wouldnt see that comming so soon
> That ever after high... Look really ballsy. and I know the Story telling will suffer what all the "Highschool for girls shows" have, but it look great, the father becomes evil, and they show you how much he loved her wife and everything, and then... wow... call me damn interested.
She's the doll that got me into Monster High in the first place... didn't think this would hit me that hard
Do you think this would affect the value for some of the original dolls? I mean, MH Cupid is fetching quite decent prices for a MH doll (the amazon exclusive dracolaura is to sale for $30, while MH Cupid is at $50 on ebay, $90 brand new at amazon), so knowing that some popular characters aren't going to be seen again with their original designs and detail (Skelita, for starters), may attract scalpers.
Well it's totally unscientific, but the threads in /co/ also have been totally dead in the last months. I remember how in 2012-ish there were some "so how about them monster highs" threads that died within a dozen posts, then in 2013-14 there were some ongoing generals and not it's back to being dead.
And of course here in /toy/ threads only lasted a week before reaching post limit and not a month, like they have recently.
The current situation is not looking good by those measures
I'm so upset. My first doll was Dawn of the Dance Ghoulia and kept on collecting the dolls ever since.
I must have about 80 dolls by now and even though this year I haven't bought any doll cause I wasn't feeling the new lines, I was hoping they'd eventually become as cool as before again.
Also, Ghoulia and Spectra are my faves. Seeing these... possible replacements makes me sad.
I doubt they're gonna get rid of Draculaura's boyfriend, especially if she's going to become the main character. Plus one of Clawdeen's things is that she has a large family, so I'm sure Clawd and Howleen will stick around for some sibling related shenanigans.
yeah, that's totally not a shot at Frozen at all. although i do like that Crystal's parents are the Snow King and the Snow Queen.
The parent's design looks a lot nicer than Crystal's.
The snow themed backgrounder looks more like the parents than Crystal does.
The artwork for the Welcome to Monster High outfits has been spotted on a party mix cover.
damn I want a doll of that mom.
But realistically this has to be a shot at frozen, and I can see why Disney would have instantly dropped these guys like hotcakes for it.
With this new reboot it makes me want to go back and buy all the dolls I didn't before. I stopped collecting because the line was getting far too big for me to justify buying as much anymore. but if they're getting rid of certain characters I can mark this as a definitive 'end point' Damn. I was just thinking of selling all my G1 ghouls as well...
Anywho I spotted this cutie at BigW the other day and broke my year long doll buying strike for her. So worth, she's just gorgeous, haven't liked a MH doll this much in ages. I wanna buy 2 so I can customise another...
So I picked up Kala Mer'ri yesterday, and when I was taking her top off, realized it was two pieces. The tube top, I tried out on Bloodgood because she's hard to get other stuff to fit, and it doesn't fit her bust as snug as on Kala. Surprising, since I figured Kala had the same bust size as Bloodgood/Neferia/Clawdia, but she is a skinch bigger.
Anon, that's a really cute story.
Where are you looking for Draculaura dolls? Have you taken a look at the MH wiki to look at all the dolls they've ever made of her?
If not, take a look here!
Most likely a new werewolf for MH. Sounds like it'll be an arctic wolf.
It bleeds out. It's been discussed in the general at least once that I'm aware of, and I know some friends of mine have bitched about it as well.
Regardless, yeah. She has a bigger torso than even the Big Sister body, at the regular body height/length.
I'm mostly excited that she has the torso joint, and keep hoping that that's something the reboot can't kill.
Every time I look at the trademarks filed by Mattel, I can't help but wonder what the "Sea-Mares" are/were. I keep telling myself they must've been Fright-Mares that went with Great Scarrier Reef but haven't made it to market yet. Or maybe they were something else, or another franchise entirely. Anyone know more about them?
There's some speculation that they're the miniature seahorse-style frightmares shown in the GSR trailer. There were three (I think?) shown in the scene where Posea summons everyone to the reef.
Sorry for shitty quality on screencap.
Oh, how did I miss them in the trailer? They do fit perfectly with the name though- I wonder if they're actually making dolls of them? Or perhaps the regular Fright-Mares aren't selling well enough to justify another line? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Why can't they create a new doll line to be the new Disney Princess and not fuck with MH or EAH. This is disappointing and heartbreaking. It makes me want to cry that Mattel is killing my hobby.
I want to say that the Fright-mares and vinyl pieces were HUGE missteps, and probably a huge money sink for Mattel. EAH is putting out their 'little' friends line - which is just an excuse to give out cheap looking dolls for cheap - but they are certainly better then the Fright-mares.
Mattel is too scared to try a new line, they dont want to sink money into a new line when they can milk and cheaply change MH and EAH. I agree they should try a new line, one for younger audience with younger characters - like 11 to 14. We are also forgetting that Mattel is doing the super heros DC female line - and they might not want to work at building a fourth line. The DC line looks to have about the same body articulation and handling as EAH and MH - so they are producing three lines with similar body types to keep in budget.
Wasn't EAH created to be the Disney Princess replacement? Did they realize just how screwed up the storyline is as each fairy tale has many retellings and interpretations and many of the characters introduced may have bad ends and this is the reason they are fucking with MH and soon come after EAH with a reboot.
I always heard that EAH wasnt made as a replacement for the DP stuff - it was made as a competing line due to Disney not wanting to make a children of line at the time. I'm not sure if they knew they were losing the DP properties when they did it - but it caused them to lose it. I believe the Descendants line was made to compete with EAH directly though.
I see but I heard about Mattel losing the Disney Princess line a bit before EAH debuted though. I am still disappointed that my hobby is being killed by making MH "safe". What's wrong with cute mobster girls doing cute things?
Another thing that annoys me, characters like Operetta and Peri and Pearl are actually great characters to have. There are people with scars, there are conjoined twins that share a body. Monster High was great in making characters that can relate to so many people of all walks of life. They're unique beings who are perfectly inperfect. No need to be "safe" as kids (well older children) and adults alike love them. And what of Skelita? Do they still believe she will cause girls to become anorexic? She's a freaking skeleton we're all skeletons that are covered in muscle and flesh. Are undead characters really that spooky then they shoukd gerpt rid of Draculara, Cleo, and Frankie for that matter.
Mattel didn't lose DP until last year. EAH debuted well before that.
Their official statement (reposted in a few articles about the subject was that they didn't pay enough attention to Disney's needs, while trying to produce EAH at the same time, and that's how they lost the line to Hasbro. They're still on good terms with Disney and producing OTHER merchandise for them, just not Disney Princess stuff.
Yeah. Some people in the higher ranks either resigned or were sacked last year when they lost the DP license. EAH started coming out in 2013, a few months before Frozen hit.
Apparently, even though Frozen was a huge hit, Disney felt that Mattel didn't have enough Disney Princess tie-in with the movie to promote more sales or something? That was the beginning of it. And it continued from there. Part of it is that the DP line was apparently a major pain in the ass in terms of how Disney wanted it handled (every princess has her own colour dress, none of the princesses can look at/interact with one another or it cheapens their individual story, and some other weird restrictions). Basically, Hasbro won the brand by pitching the opposite handling: let the princesses be friends, give them each their own distinct, but not-colour limited wardrobe, and produce more of the minority princesses that Mattel didn' feel would sell well.
Just to clarify, here are two of the articles in question. One about Disney's Descendants (which is their direct response to EAH via Hasbro) and the other is about Mattel's loss of the license:
There are a couple of others, but I'm having a hard time finding them since that second one hit. It and the comments/reactions/articles relinking to it are making finding the other articles almost impossible.
Could someone clear this up for me, is this reboot world wide? Is this for countries outside of North America? The dolls look like they could be for the Japanese market like a Barbie that had a more moe look.
It's for the entire brand. International distribution is getting more attention according to the press release (because distribution can be spotty world-wide), but the actual reboot will affect dolls everywhere.
Going to be throughout the world from what we can tell - all areas share the same basic dolls (not every area carries specific exclusives and store specific pieces )
I believe that if the pegs are similar inside the heads - i've seen tons of them with their heads swapped (EAH and MH swaps) on tumblr.
Yes they do. There are some skintone matches across the two brands, too.
>Draculaura/Elissabat and Bunny
>Briar and Howleen/Cleo
>Ginger/Cedar and Clawdeen
>Cerise/Ashlynn and Sig Nefera
What happened to promoting individuality and uniqueness? What happened what Monster High? Why change what's not broken? Are characters like the ones being discontinued really that scary? Are they so confident in MH that Mattel is going to rape it like they did with Barbie in the last 5 years?
>Why change what's not broken?
MH saw a dip in sales this year. The numbers aren't out yet as to how big of a dip, but it must have been significant enough that they feel a need to change it.
They also need to fill the gap that losing DP left. MH is a more appropriate choice to modify (financially) than EAH, because EAH barely makes a profit, and MH is more easily recognised.
Why not just make more Princess Barbies? I mean they've been shitting on Barbie for over a decade now so what's a bit more damage will do to the line as Barbie is here for eternity.
I'm reading a report from Oct 2015 and it says Barbie sales decreased by 4% and other girl brands which may include MH and EAH decreased by 20%. I don't know if a new one is coming out soon as I usually don't follow these but MH may have run it's course. It will go down with Flavors and MyScene.
Simple answer? Because it'll be around for eternity.
They didn't anticipate MH being more than a temporary placeholder on the shelves when it started. It's not something that any other manufacturer has done before in a successful fashion, and the drop in sales as noted here >>5375824 may have convinced them that the experiment is over.
But we'll see. Nothing is certain yet except for the fact that Mattel is going forward with this new rebooting. How long it lasts, how well it does, we won't know until they've launched actual product.
Abbey in previous movies and webshorts has talked about Yeti traditions including matchmaking. This may be the reason for nothing official. However, it's been noted she may have feelings for Heath.
I'm not usually a Barbie fan but I love the Made to Move ones.
Wonder if MH will ever get something like it.
I want to say yes, but I highly doubt it. Usually they have characters that are one time only (the ghosts, the fusions, Whisp, Kieran) but some characters from the movies (Elissabat, Gigi, Viperine, etc) are featured as actual additional characters/dolls. I think Lorna and Marisol have the same theme in that they're only really supposed to be exchange students but I guess anything is possible.
I'm just posting up progress, I'm still working on the tights for Courtly, but I need to get some clear thread. But I just switched head and hands onto a deheaded Maddie doll. They work perfectly! But just switching their bodies makes the doll look so much better all ready. Not too sure if I'll cut her hair or not, but I intend to grab an original one in the box to keep so maybe I will.
What the fuck happened to Draculara on the second row?
Those song titles tho
I would want to just bring my grain of sand to this Monster High reebot.
I would understand Mattel Wanting to make Monster High more... cute, or "child friendly"
But there is really the need to erase track of the other lines?
maybe is just because they are starting from scratch, so we will see.
I mean, I could bring a diagram, but /toy/ get really piss off about it.
Hasbro and their Horses, are making products for everyone.
outside the main horses, they made a Toddler line, for the 0 to 3 years old
and they made that Highschool Horses, and they clasify that as "teenagers" line
and the adult line.
So I think they could at some point just have diferent range of ages for the dolls...
And i think the most important is that the Main "shorts" or "movies" or what ever they are doing... is good, because... well.... most of this "cartoon for girls in higshcool"... are not good... and that probably isnt going to change here neither....
I know you people probably are not into this version of MH.
I think i have not seen any of the "Individual" Megabloks characters.
They are out?
Where can I find them?
I have not seen them because i live in Tacoland?
This look like a really impresive display
If you can survive the title screen, you will start seeing the collection and they way it is display.
it seems well put togeter
I wish they'd split it into playline and collector like with Barbie at least. Collector Barbie has the more dramatic makeup and nicer clothing, but is still reasonably easy to get (unless its web exclusive or platinum or whatever)
If the monster high area look like this after Christmas and new year....
It is consider a failure?
where do you live that still has a huge MH section? My local stores have downsized from half the aisle to a section that's the width of 2 dolls, 4 dolls deep, with 2 shelves of MH dolls + a lower shelf of the figures/misc stuff.
Different anon here, but the MH aisle in most of my local stores is basically about the same size as ever. Target's is getting bigger, with my local one devoting two endcaps to the Frightfully Tall dolls (tall boxes) and Gooliope. The EAH section is getting slowly taken over by Bratz and Descendants in TRU, Big W and Target.
Kmart seems like the only store that has shrunk their MH section recently.
Based in Sydney, Aus. Taking at least two of each major stores above into account other than TRU.
>Needed to buy scissors and rulers today
>Stopped by Dollar Tree
>Like 20 Create a Monster packs
I was sitting there examining the package for a couple of minutes. It was legit and everything and ended up actually being a dollar. Is Mattel just trying to get rid of the old look in whatever way possible?
>Is Mattel just trying to get rid of the old look in whatever way possible?
Storage space is a constant money drain. You have to pay rent for every cubic foot of storage space you use. Or at the very least, you can use that space to store items people might actually want.
If something isn't selling, it's better in the long run to dump them at a discount price to some dollar store and make storage their problem.
>Not knowing about Día de reyes.
>In Spain, Argentina, México, Paraguay and Uruguay, there is a long tradition for having the children receive presents by the three "Reyes Magos" on the night of January 5 (Epiphany Eve) or morning of January 6.
>A couple of days earlier, the children write their letters to the Wise Men, or to their favorite Rey Mago: Melchor, Gaspar, or Baltasar, asking for the presents they would like to receive.
>Hundreds of multicolored balloons, filled with helium, are sold during the season, so the little ones can attach their letters to them, and have them fly, up to the sky, carrying all their wishes with them.
So, there you go. Go back today (6 de enero), and take another photo with time stamp and tell me if the MH aisle looks the same.
Unfortunately, I will concede one point: día de reyes is a tradition on the decline. There are children who still enjoy having both, Christmas and día de reyes gifts, but for the parents is kind of expensive, and because marketing the coca-cola fat pet is gaining territory and fewer families celebrate the dia de reyes each year with gifts. Most families only eat rosca.
However, in many parts is still a very important date for toy companies, and even some chains not focused on toys, like wal mart, remain open all night so the parents can take the children to the bed, go and buy gifts and place them during the night so when the children wake up, they find them. Fuck, I remember some years ago a governmental office ran a short-lived campaign to made the parents aware the proper gifts for día de reyes are toys, not clothes or something else. Think on what a children wants, not what an adult needs.
if you're too embarrassed to be buying it in-store, just order it online. online orders prevent you from seeing the doll you order though so figure out which one is better than the other.
I've never bothered to explain a purchase, but goddamn some cashiers are rude.
>"Oh, ew. These things are so freaky! I'd never buy this."
>"I'll never understand the appeal of these things."
You're in fucking retail. Your job is to make sure people spend money in your store, not actively embarrass them into not wanting to shop there anymore. Jesus.
That has never happened for me.
Once the doll's price was not in the system, so the cashier had to call the toy department while a line formed behind me. That made me think "fuck this, keep the doll, I'll just pay for these groceries and leave", but then "what would 'my niece' think?"
It's happened to me a few times, usually with younger/high school age cashiers. I'm not so thin-skinned that it stops me from shopping for dolls, though. It's just vaguely annoying and I can see how it could make people (especially grown men) feel self-conscious buying in person.
Today went to other store and the shelves are like this
So I'm guessin the monster high dolls are selling poorly on my region
How much of a fail it is consider this?
Is this that push Mattel for the reboot?
>faybelle doesnt sell anywhere
Other than that its kinda weird because you have a lot of dolls in that picture that have been long long sold out near me. I've never seen the Werecat twins scooter at all, nor FdC Twyla, the Rochelle playset has been very difficult to track down, and all the exchange students besides the bigfoot girl sold out months ago. Last time I went to check out the doll section in a local store there was literally nothing but the BYBY Moucedes, the Cleo/Deuce pack, and a few of the swimsuit Ever After girls.
Probably not. Her clearance prices were pretty low, and she's still available in some places. You could try, though? Depending on your shipping costs. It depends on what people want, and how old the release is.
For example, I got super fucking excited because a friend in Mexico was able to get me a non-wonky Scaris Jinafire for about $12, and she's basically disappeared from everywhere else.
Just found out the Boo York 3 pack won't be coming to Australia. So pissed, that's the version of Elle Luna and Mouscedes I wanted.
Should I just shell out on eBay now for the pack? Or should I wait and see if they go clearance in the US and try and convince a stranger on the fb adult group to pick me one up?
Did they ever go on sale or clearance in the US? I've waited a long time for them to on sale, and they've since delisted the set on walmart.com. There arent too many walmarts that still have this set out there, but i had hoped they would get cheaper. My walmarts still contain the werewolf family set from last year, and have them marked at their original price rather then clearance them out.
Someone designed Dragon Games Melody. Someone made this and yet somehow they still decided to make a bland Poppy as the exclusive
Hello, long time no speak. My custom rock golem girl finally has a face. It's the first faceup i've ever done, so i know it's not great but all things considered I'm pretty happy with it. She's nearly done now. She just needs a shirt and I'm deciding on whether I'm going to set her hair permanently up in a death hawk.
I'm glad to see you back here again!
Please tell me that you're going to give her a crop top to show off the geometric body detailing? Please? Pretty please?
Also, you're in QLD, right? What brand of primer and paint did you use on the doll and how well has it been holding up to humidity so far? Any chipping or cracks? I'm considering a full repaint of my own ice CAM with gold plastic-friendly paint, but wanted to hear how you went first.
I bought some nylon hair from dollyhair.com in three different colours: sour apple martini, envy, poison ivy. It's quite nice to the touch too, I'm going to buy some more for my next custom.
Yeah I'm back. My partner and I got "divorced" last year, and I moved back in with my mum. Fuuuunnnnn tiiiimmmes.
Yes I'm in QLD. Rocksie's body and head and repainted with a binyl & fabric spray paint from Super Cheap auto. The brand is dupli-color and is stocked in the spray paint cabinet at the back of the shop. It comes in some kind of drab colours, but there might be a nice gold. Chipping, yes there has been a tiny bit of that on her moving parts. But I did the best I could to spray her parts separately and with the pegs in different positions to try and minimise the damage. I followed up with 1 coat of Mr super clear, and an extra 2 coats of it after her face was painted in acrylics.
I didn't actually prime the ice girl CAM parts. The finish on those is pretty toothy and holds the vinyl paint well. I recommend 2 coats, not too heavy, and it won't be too thick them.
Oh and with the shirt, I am making her a white singlet, but it's going to go down to her pelvis. I'm going for a skinhead/punk sort of look, but it's a tight singlet so you'll hopefully be able to see her torso through it still (like her tights!). And her guns will be out so you'll be able to see it in her arms.
I joined the adorable deer girl legion last night, she's so damn cute! I was hoping for a Batsy, but she was the one Target didn't have. Glad to see they're finally putting out the new lines though.
Thought I'd post my friend's EAH setup. She's got most of the core dolls, though she's not sure where to setup the Wonderland girls yet.
Dragon games trailer. dont know if some one posted it, i just saw people posting some pictures of it.
What's the current situation on the vinyl figures? Are they still making them as I'm seeing nothing for the supposed Jinafire and Catrine ones, or the other chase figures.
I can't even find a standard Draculaura, yet I found 2 chase
god, i really hope the person next to cerise is ramona, that would be perfect.
The world map was actually from the future or being able to predict the future. Unfortunately Monster High is in the western part of North America.
We can have Van Helsing Family going on a rampage
Or Having a gigantic Disaster, that can be stop only by making a "time travel abortion"
It can feature Ghoulia as a main character, and other characters that dissapear
Damn. Sorry to hear it. Hope you're back on your feet soon.
Thanks for the tips on the paint. I found one at Bunnings that is okay for "vinyl and most plastic" in gold and silver. I'll probably prime the body just to be safe with dupli-color though.
New to the fandom here.
I like drawing and I'm considering getting some old dolls for custom painting.
Would it be a good artsy business to try to sell them if they turn out well? I've seen good and very bad customs, so I'd say I have my quality standards high.
It definitely could be a good business. I've seen some poorly done customs sell for over $100, and amazing ones sell for more. A good way to get started/get noticed is to do characters people know.
Pic related sold for $122 with 10 for shipping, it is a really well done custom, and being a tiny horse helped it sell.
>Rule 1 of Customs: You're gonna fuck it up.
While it's a good thing that you're using thrift store MH dolls, be advised that no matter how good of a artist you are, you're going to fuck up your first, second, third, and most likely your fourth attempts at faceups. If you keep at it for about a year, doing at least one faceup a month, your skills should be mature enough that someone will buy one of your customs.
Even so, you shouldn't quit your day job. It's alot of hard, eye straining work for little pay. And your customers will be picky woman-childs who often fail at understanding why they should pay you what you ask for in an timely fashion.
>I'd say I have my quality standards high.
Quality standards are debatable. Plenty of people have professional customized dolls that are a hot mess. Pic related. While it's a good faceup on a technical level, who the fuck wants a Derpinstein doll?
Basically everything that >>5392598 said and to add onto that, don't start selling your customs right when you start making them or at least until you feel that you're sure that you've made something you know will sell. There's a custom EP Blondie on tumblr right now that someone's been trying to sell for months and it's possibly one of the ugliest customs I've ever seen.
Does the retooling of the Monster High brand seem to be in any way connected to the recent cancellation of Barbie Life in The Dreamhouse? Did they think that MH was taking the youth away from Barbie, and leaving Barbie as a memory of the old demographic?
Gah, I tried scrolling through the EAH tag but either she finally sold it or it's too far back in the tag. I can't remember her tumblr so I can't go look but her face was just awful. The eyes were looking to the side and the slant on them was so severe, she looked permanently pissed at whoever was to her left.
Life in the Dreamhouse was cancelled? That's honestly disappointing
Is she not the cutest!?
B-But it was a great show and I thought it really got on well with all viewers ( even mom can remember her first barbie right? Is that a marketing phrase? It should be ) Plus it looked more like Barbie from ToyStory and seemed to hit on all the current trendy 'be yourself, don't change who you are, live your dreams, be what you want' motivational crap.
The show Life in the Dreamhouse isn't cancelled. They just ended a season in September. The episode schedule is always kind of random with breaks that don't fit much of a pattern. Sometimes they stop episodes in December and restart in February, once they had only 1-2 episodes a month from April to December, then didn't come back until April, etc.
