So did Hasbro confirm any other of these black series voice changers? Trooper helmet when?
Also STAR WARS General I guess.
it always annoyed me that toy lightsabers (that come with figures) are always just transluscent colored plastic which never gives them the real look (white with colored borders)
do you think theres a better way to handle it?
i'd think about a white pole with another transluscent, barely colored hull around it.
Thinking of pre-ordering this but I'm not too sure.
TBS6 ANH Luke, Kanan, and Han back up for pre order on Dorksidetoys.com
I paid $64 for mine and would say it's worth about $50. It's a nice helmet but I could have done without the voice changer in exchange for a more screen accurate look, and it not being in two pieces.
If you want it for just the voice changer buy a cheaper mask, it's the same shitty voice changer in every toy version. Anyways, the input is around the mouth, very sensitive actually, it picks up a lot of outside noise and breathing is very amplified, the power source is near the top of the head and the speakers are in between the silver forehead decorations. Taking it apart would destroy the helmet and probably not be worth the time.
I'd say it was worth the price, one of the best prop/toys hasbro has ever made. The battery pack on top and seam aren't optimal but certainly don't ruin the helmet. I'm honestly surprised they didn't make the visor huge like they did for all the previous voice changer helmets they've done
so am I gonna have to buy this or will we get a black series?
I wanna get this cute little fucker, but my phone's a clunker and I can't use the app. :(
The other contenders are Hasbro's $80 one, which is just a remote-control car, essentially, no autonomous roaming. And it takes a whopping six AA batteries (four for the droid, two for the controller).
Then Disney has an $30+ dollar version. It's huge, but it moves around on a wheel located underneath, and not like the actual droid. And it looks like you have to constantly press its button and interact with it to get it to do shit. Pretty much only for kids.
For your desk, I think Funco has a little model, at least.
If it makes you feel any better it's pretty damn small and all of its audio emits form your phone, rather than BB-8 itself. Those were kind of turn offs for me. At least at the current price point. I'd buy it at $80 I think. $150? Nope.
I like the small size, but yeah, the sounds coming from the phone is definitely a turn-off. They were kind of misleading with all the hype.
Also, though it makes a map of your house based on what it runs into, it has no sensors, so it pretty much just runs full-speed and bumps into shit, and wears out after an hour. Kind of like putting your cat on cocaine. I just want a cute little robot that will greet me when I come home.
One day, maybe.
pretty tempted to get bb-8 sphero myself
Are you on Android, Apple, or Windows? I went to the Google Play store and found out right away that the app wasn't compatible with my phone. Oughta check that out.
Apparently you can download the app on Windows 10. But I'm not getting Windows 10, Microsoft can suck a dick.
WAKE ME UP
WAKE ME UP INSIDE
How long is this lightsaber? I want a luke skywalker saber from ROTJ, and I have a build your own one I made at Disneyland, but the hilt is inaccurate.
I just want a small BB-8 that doesn't need an app to sync with, and that can run longer than an hour so I can let it roam around and chill all afternoon. That's all I really want. :(
It's definitely cheaper but like I said>>5363856, it seems like you have to constantly interact with it to get it to do stuff, so it's pretty much made for a toddler that wants to sit and push buttons and watch it react. That and the tiny wheel it moves on makes it seem like a pale imitation.
>i'd think about a white pole with another translucent, barely colored hull around it.
They already tried that
I'm jelly..especially so of the shadow trooper. Let's see some actual poses though, anybody can do the guy holding gun across chest pose.. these badass figures deserve badass poses to go with them.
Wait for her sexier sister in February named "Yume" still pricey but worth it
Sorry. It's just discussion of cultures that aren't my own make me uncomfortable and instead of attempting to learn about it I retaliate with racially insensitive language. Happens from time to time.
The whole bandai model kit fiasco has me fucked up on what's actually out and what isn't, the BB-8/R2-D2 set just released, right? I'm curious about the quality on them, does anyone have impressions on R2?
>Really want this
>Set is almost $400 Aus dollarydoos
Lego Star Wars has gotten really expensive.
I bought two of the smaller sets with the first order and the rebels and I feel ripped off buying them both for $22 each. It's nice they came with four figures each though but both of these should have been $15
Yes i did. I was impatient and my wallet took a hit for it. But really the most i would have saved was 20 bucks as amazon had them on prime for a tiny bit for 80. He's an exclusive and i dint mind paying the premium and i also love shadow troopers. its not the first time i would have done so for the other stuff i collect. IMO totally worth it though thought i would be disappointed but i was not
Should I buy this at my local target for 16 dollars or wait for figuarts? Legit question.
There is also Jabba for 18 worth grabbing?
left is repainted, right is off the shelf. wow, if only we got paint like that from the factory.
actually i think i got duped by photoshop. i think i should of looked closer.
it's insane the difference his paint makes. it's like there's an entirely different sculpt under there
here you go.
i guess this is what he uses for skin tones. at least for solo
It's the number of pieces and amount of plastic that has the prices the way they are.
The last X-Wing that cost around 30 USD was from 1999 and only had 220 pieces. Meanwhile Poe's X-Wing has 717 pieces and has an SRP of 80 USD.
Does this person sell pre-painted head sculpts?
They seriously should...
I wish I knew how to do that, probably the only thing stopping me from buying a Rey is that face
Has anyone picked up Kylo Ben?
Where do you guys recommend buying from in the UK? Amazon seems to missing stuff and looks like its having a hard time keeping stock.
I was in the Disney Store yesterday and got the Sphero BB-8 and an Elite Series Kylo Ren but I want to get some Black Series'
>Damn. Makes you wonder if the figure sculptors are ever disappointed when they see the paintwork of their sculpts on the shelves.
Nah, the sculptors usually don't mind, since their sculpt is still shown in all its glory.
What they do mind is the fact so many people equating sculpt = paint
Also, Hasbro = Hot Toys of 6"... in sculpting.
It would still have the relatively limited articulation, though. If you're paying the $40 or so, you migh as well be going for the better paint AND articulation that a Figuarts/Mafex/Revoltech brings.
Stopped by toys r us. Was going to pick up the BB8 sphere but it was sold out. Also forgot to pick up the Poe Disney infinity toy.
These custom painted faces are definitely miniatures paint, probably Vallejo like the anon said.
It is *absolutely* a thinurpaintz situation. It's a guy who clearly has done portrait painting (probably in oil based on his style). He overdoes it quite a lot with the green on the jaws and the red "crying eyes" but I am looking at photos and they are 1" tall faces and in person they probably look exactly right with that degree of exaggeration.
It's standard miniatures gamers paint and paintjobs just done exceptionally well and on unexpected figures. Better than more fucking space marines.
>Where do you guys recommend buying from in the UK? Amazon seems to missing stuff and looks like its having a hard time keeping stock.
>I was in the Disney Store yesterday and got the Sphero BB-8 and an Elite Series Kylo Ren but I want to get some Black Series'
I didn't know Toys R Us carried the Sphero in-store. U.S.?
Only Best Buy near me that has it in store is way in the fucking boonies. Considering stopping by Apple Store this weekend.
>Which thing? I haven't been on /toy/ for around a year.
I just thought you were doing the thing where you were asking a rhetorical question that you already pretty much knew the answer to.
This one's an everyone toy.
Is there a figure of the Seventh Sister from rebels? An upcoming maybe?
What happened to the BS emporor's wrath Vader? I thought he was supposed to release in December. I know he popped up on their website about a 2 months ago but damn they couldn't have sold out completely.
Bandai is doing a BB-8/ R2 model kit soon, I think ETA is February?
Not sure if I want a 32" or 37" blade. Are the ends of 37" blades noticeably dimmer? What does it take for it to look disproportionally long?
>How much practice do you guys think it takes to be able to do this? This is my dream but I have no painting experience. Are we talking about six months? A year? Ten years?
If you're careful and autistic about it, you can do it today as long as you inform yourself on proper painting techniques and paints to use.
It's not hard, but there's a lot of things you learn through trial and error. Most guides are incomplete or teach totally awful techniques, so even if you're well informed you can be led down a retarded path without knowing it.
Best guides usually come from /tg/-type mini modelers, since they know you need to thin your paints and how to spray your models, and proper thinning and spray techniques accounts for 50% of making your figure look great.
Larger scale modelers can be lax on that, which can fuck up little details even on larger scale figures.
>kohls charging 30 dollars for captain phasma + their jewish 9 dollar shipping
Anyone have one of these 6" fuckers and manage to get the wings back off? It feels like their held in by one way clips and I'm beginning to think I'll never get them off again
is this guy hard to come by? i foud one today, after visiting 5 stores
Wife got it for Christmas when it got down to 80 or 90 bucks. Detailing is great, but It's massive, no clue what to do with it. And that says a lot because we have a split level house with the bottom floor for geekery
Anybody got the disney elite grievous? Looks pretty good but I've never seen it in the store and didn't even know it existed until now only to see it's like $200 on ebay what the fun
Yeah, the Elite figures aren't great. I have a couple. They just don't really have much in the way of articulation. Also, the scaling seems really odd from figure to figure.
I mean, they're OK if you're just getting them as statues that you can move the arms a little bit or something, but cool, posable, decently articulated figures they are not.
Just got a TRU e-mail, SW Micro Machines are 2 for one Friday and Saturday. I'm thinking of getting a bunch of the blind bagged ones but i can't seem to find a cheat sheet, any ideas or are the bags easy to ID by feel?
fairly easy, I got all the ones I wanted from S1 and so far all the ones I want from S2 without getting doubles. All of them are in little plastic trays, but you can still feel certain features of the ships that give away what it is like the Snowspeeder's cockpit, the nose of the X-Wing, The Naboo Starfighter's tail, etc. TIE fighters are the easiest to find since they look really bulky compared to all the others
Kylo shelf-warming hard
Nowhere to be found
Also where the fuck is the snowtrooper I've been looking for two weeks
Not that guy, but I saw one Kylo on Force Friday, and then never saw one again until right around when the movie came out, when I saw two tucked away at a Walgreens. I passed on him, but I saw the movie on Christmas Eve and decided to buy one. Checked out that Walgreens, and there was still one chilling there, so I got him.
Never saw another one anywhere else.
I don't think any of the stores have really restocked in weeks, though. I haven't seen anything but Finns at Target, Walmart, etc. I don't even have a K-Mart around anymore.
I still haven't even gotten one of those damn Walmart Battlefront Shocktroopers. There is only one Walmart near me and it always has tons of traffic.
My local target happened to get the phasma wave the day I went in so I was able to grab her and the guavian enforcer. I also wish you had noticed the few posts I made ~week ago. Walmart had the shocktroopers on their website for 19 bucks for a a good while for a few days. I grabbed two then.
>Walmart had the shocktroopers on their website for 19 bucks for a a good while for a few days. I grabbed two then.
Damn. I guess I missed that.
Oh well. I ended up ordering one off eBay, and paid $28 shipped, which I guess isn't terrible.
Just waiting for it to ship out.
They had some in store, too. Mine had like 8 so I picked one up because I thought the design was cool.
Turned out to be rare-ish.
Well, I figured they had them in the store. I went to Walmart a couple times looking specifically for him, but all they've had in a long time is like two Finns, and that dumb fucker who wasn't even in the movie.
>I still haven't even gotten one of those damn Walmart Battlefront Shocktroopers. There is only one Walmart near me and it always has tons of traffic.
I got one, but the left foot can't move vertically at so I'm basically limited to one pose. Haven't seen another one in weeks to exchange
So where would be the best place to find Jango and when will that wave be in stores? Dorksidetoys sold out of him and luke but still have flametroopers, snowtroopers, Kanaan, and Ashoka.
For you friend
Did they ever make toys of these sex robots?
I thought he would be the shelf warmer of the wave at my wal-mart, but surprisingly, it's the tie pilot. all we have left out of 2 or 3 boxes is one asty,2-3 kylos and 4-5 tie pilots.
>movie fags shit up a good toy thread
Wow, I don't know what the fuck has happened to her and how hard she's relapsed but woah
My favorite part of TFA was the part where they only used the aliens you'd recognize from the OT like Nein Nunb and Ackbar, but ignored literally everything else so they could come up with even worse designs. Twi'leks are sexist, get them outta there! Rodians? Ha ha, not this year fucker!
Got my nephew a couple of these for christmas. They're small. Like the size of an accurately scaled Yoda lightsaber. They're good for him cause he's 4, but yeah they're surprisingly small.
I want it, but I'm way to shit at painting to get anything worthwhile out of the kit.
Also it's $36 to the US
Loks like it's supposed to be in scale with 6in figures though, so that's nice.
Thanks man. Was seeing if I should get one for a cosplay (the 1:1 scale fx one that was released long ago is obscenely priced and the only green is yodas small one), but seeing as it isn't that big I'll stick with the one I made at Disney land
He probably wants actual articulation.
Also, maybe I'm wrong, as I don't have Finn, but I remember seeing somewhere that Finn's head doesn't fit on the BS series FO trooper anyway.
Guess they wanted to make sure you'd buy that actual FO Finn...
I don't think we're getting anything worth a damn in the Black Series anymore. Hasbro doesn't want to keep the line going, so we'll get "main characters" and then every thing else will be shitty 5poa. Least amount of effort on their part.
Same. I saw Poe like twice, and a couple of Troopers at GameStop.
The Constable guy is now shelfwarming more than anyone else. Was he even in the movie? At least I could see Phasma and the Guavian Enforcer in the film. What a waste of a figure, you'd think Hasbro would know that would make a shitty shelfwarmer.
Even if they did that, they'd still probably be made out of that fuckawful soft plastic. I hate that gummy stuff they use for the joints, most of the time they're warped straight out of the box as a result.
They could and should be doing so much better. Then again, I don't think it's entirely their fault, big box retail in America has literally ruined everything, with Wal-Mart and co being able to dictate what price points things should be at or they won't stock them.
Woke up a bit early this morning so I decided to check walmart not really expecting to find anything but still hoping. Came across the entire new series of buildables but was only interested in kylo and phasma. These really do suit armored characters better than rey finn and poe and I think kylo would have been a bit better if all the pieces were matte like the helmet but I'm still happy with it. Phasma looks really great imo. Picked up their last grievous too because people here said it was a pretty good set and vader too just because. No 3.75 or 6 black series to be seen though
Doing it for the articulation, yeah. And it doesn't have to actually fit on the peg, I'm just needing it to rest there and not look giraffe necked or no-necked. I've used a couple marvel legends unmasked heads on it with blu-tack and some work really well for unhelmeted stormies, while others just look stupid due to how deep the socket is.
Yo, how tall is phasma? I want that cape.
About 10.25 - 10.5 in. The cape is pretty nice. One side is a fuzzy felt and the other is more of a smooth texture
On the helm, should have noticed it in the box really but I was in a hurry.
just want to thank the based anon that let me know he was back in stock on amiami
These fuckers are really hit or miss for paint.
Most of them either look really bad, or relatively decent.
Many are the former. I'd like to build an "official" 10-man squad of these guys, and I've probably found enough to do so, but I only actually have three of them because the paint generally looks so bad.
Then again, there are other, non-paint related problems that two of mine have that I couldn't notice until I got them out of package...
How are the realization figures? I really like the look of these and I'm thinking of getting them, even though I otherwise don't collect any Star Wars. Is there any word of them expanding into heroes, too?
They're solid figures. Though, I don't know if I would pay the $90 price tag that most American shops have them for.
I went looking for Star Wars figures for the first time today and found two Reys, two Kylo Rens, two First Order troopers and a Captain Phasma at Toys R Us today. I bought Rey but it's a pretty disappointing figure
Old Han is going to be a bigger pegwarmer than Finn
>mommy i want the old guy!
I finally dropped the knife and got him (her).
Have the Boba and he is glorious. As another anon said not worth the 90 USD for the most part so just watch out on Amiami and see when things go up for preorder. They've announced a few more troopers and jango so they should be up sometime soon.
went to thee walmarts, the first two had two full cases of wave three, grabbed a 1 tie pilot and 1 resitance trooper. the third store had two cases of wave three and two cases of wave four. my buddy and i both grabbed hux, i took the alien x-wing guy and he took the snowtrooper.
it's amazing finding what you want in one trip.
I love the Boba Fett figure and I can't wait for Jango.
Offered the guy $35 and was surprised that he actually accepted, I'll post pics when I get it.
Ended up paying €60 for it with shipping, I can always flip that for more in my country if I don't like it.
We have a bunch of the full helm ones from SW and a few other things (Marvel, Transformers) on top of our cabinets in the kitchen. The wife and I are super bummed that we haven't had any more good full helm ones in a while.
And the black series helmet is awesome - but expensive as fuck.
To be fair, most of ours are lucky Good Will finds. Still pissed that they had a Boba Fett, but only missing the back half.
