So, what sets off your nostalgia boner, /toy/?
What's that one thing that sets you into a downward spiral of spending because it brings back fond memories from your youth?
Pic fucking related.
>friend gives me that cheap Dino Megazord because he has the vintage one
>it starts getting wobbly and loose
>get super accustomed to seeing it
>try to re-watch the show
>realize it's hilariously bad
>see legacy Dragonzord
>find a Legacy Megazord to replace wobbles mcgoo
>fuck it, might as well get the main team
>wait until the entire team is available
>drop $300 on 6 figs and a Zord
>now being tempted by White Ranger because of the Tigerzord
>probably gonna get suckered into buying the Thunderzord to go with it
>fucking $180 Titanus
>I don't even like Titanus...
Nostalgia a shit.
I'm so happy that between the 90's nostalgia boom here and in Japan, us 90z kidz finally have a bunch of awesome toys of the stuff we loved as kids, or a second chance at them in some cases.
My main childhood love was Beast Wars, second being Power Rangers and Pokemon. And a bunch of Toonami aired anime and cartoons,TMNT, BTAS, and Throwbots. I do wish we got more than just 4 or 5 Beast Wars figures every few years, I'm not much of a fan of vehicle Transformers.
Stuff I'd like to see get a new line: Street Sharks and, especially, Extreme Dinosaurs. I'd put up with Matty Collector's bullshit for somewhat articulated versions of all those guys.
Also, how's the quality of Jazware's Space ghost? That feels like a stupid question, but I really loved C2C and cartoon Planet growing up, and love a proper figure of Tad.
Aww, shit, son! Throwbots/Slizers were the shit! I mean, seriously, who the hell needs a carrying case with a belt loop to carry a toy around?
I have no idea about Jazwares' stuff. I haven't heard amazing things about them overall, though.
I love MSIA Gundams. Honestly I'm not even a fan of the Gundam series, but I love the designs and idea of Gundam. I used to find lose figures on ebay for super fucking cheap too once they stopped being sold in stores.
I couldn't get behind the prices of the Legacy Megazords despite desperately wanting them as a child(the only MMPR zord I ever had was the Ninja Falcon Megazord). I skipped the Figuarts too since at the time I was between Sailor Moon and Power Rangers and was only going to pick up one of them. Went with Sailor Moon since Crystal was coming out this year. I'm hoping they do some sort of boxset of the whole MMPR team at a future Comic Con like they did for Samurai. I'd drop $200-250 on that no problem. Especially since chances are the Sailor Moon line will be done by then.
nostalgia is a really shit way to waste your money.
did you like it? yes. but would you still like it just the same? would it be just as cool? would it make you feel the same feeling?
I loved transformers, spiderman, tmnt and so on as a kid. but don't like them as much now. I basicly lost interest in them. there are a few figures I'd buy but they're either not worth the rape price, or the toys are just shit. thanks hasbro, I get to keep my money.
Hell yes, I mentioned in a thread that they're some of my favorite packages. I just love the 90's fixation of having stuff on belts or things made to fit in pockets. Like Bart's belt.
My thoughts exactly. That's what I think when I look at the prices. Some things I liked back then I still like and those are the things I go for immediately but I also don't consider them nostalgia since they've remained things I'm interested in.
The knees on the Tyrannozord are such a boner killler for me. Those stupid pegs. Could've gone to the trouble of engineering a way to fold them into the legs of the zord to hide them or something.
My holy grail.
Toys so rare that I began to think that I must have dreamt them up and never actually had them growing up. When I FINALLY found them again, I had to have them, no matter the cost! (two of them I actually paid a service to purchase them from a store in the UK and ship them to me).
I present to you the absolute rarest of the vintage Kenner Girder building sets:
They're not great, but I don't see how they would've done it differently in a way that doesn't look equally as awkward. And they clearly took priority on the Megazord design vs the individual Zords.
And with those universal connection pegs they use with the current stuff, you can make some asinine combinations. And some fans will get that janky Zord they always wanted.
I bought the Megazord and was tempted to get the Dragonzord, but after realizing they were going to release Titanus and the Tigerzord I just gave up and saved my money for something else. The Megazord is all I need anyway.
Are there any places that are still selling the Legacy Megazord for not a scalper price? I saw Legacy Dragonzord in person earlier and I'm tempted to cave and get it if I can get Megazord to go with it.
Altogether (as some were sold in sets) that's just under $500.
Generally you won't find them less than $100 a set--the warehouse alone can be cheaper but like I said, these are CRAZY rare.
I don't believe so. I found one for $120 and figured that was the best I was ever gonna get and went for it.
Although the cheapo dinozord can support the weight somewhat okay. I don't know how it is now, price-wise, but it doesn't look too awful. All things considered, they're exactly the same minus die-cast in the arms, t-rex legs, ptero head and tricera/sabre tails.
The last time I saw them at an okay price was BBTS at $135, but they sold out almost immediately. And I can only find the plastic Dinozord on Amazon for more than the legacy Zord.
If you're just going for displays, you could always go with the chogokin Megazord for around $60, but then there's no inter-play with the Dragonzord.
Fucking scalpers, mang.
I still need some of the SH Figuarts for the set. I should probably display the Figuarts too.
Here's a tip, click the foot 1 phase back then you can lock the black panel and to have the "Z" logo flushed forward click the thighs 1 phase forward. Locks the black panel as well and makes everything properly locked.
No, they're not. I was just showing that the Megazord can(just barely) manage to hold the Dragonzord up. The legacy one has enough weight to support itself, but the plastic on tends to lean a little bit.
I think that's intentional, because otherwise there's absolutely no purpose in the ankle tilt. And the feet weight like at least a pound each, there's no way to prevent them from flopping down without it.
Regardless, not a mode I would keep on display for very long. If he were plastic, maybe, but the die-cast makes me a little nervous.
>Here's a tip, click the foot 1 phase back then you can lock the black panel and to have the "Z" logo flushed forward click the thighs 1 phase forward. Locks the black panel as well and makes everything properly locked.
Hm, gotta try that. Just got Dragonzord tonight.
They should re-release a Legacy Megazord with painted on details and fixed leg pegs to support the Dragonzord.
>Just slap JDF's face on the box
JDF cultist are really funny but that would really work and sell the toy.
>At an animu con.
>Walk up to a booth selling the SRC Megazord.
>Well shit, that looks awesome.
>No price on box, ask him how much.
>He pulls up the Amazon price on his iPad, I see the price and he offers it cheaper.
Best impulse buy ever, this fucker is incredible to mess with.
>mfw went to that booth the next day and it turned out to have scalper prices on everything
>mfw beat a scalper
>be a kid
>have a family friend that lived near me that I would have to stay at after school for a few hours while parents were at work
>he was a spoiled brat and never would share
>had basically every megazord
>would never let me play with them or even touch them
>FAST FORWARD TO NOW YEARS LATER
>said zords get re-released
>way out of my price range
>cannot afford them still
will I ever get to have my day in the sun
Mind the crappy shot, main camera in the house just broke last week, using laptop cam til I get a new one. Eventually gonna build a cliff for the five to be on that will look nicer but for now this works
O-Ringed GI Joe figures. Fuck Hasbro for destroying the classic molds.
Been spending most of my moolah on Convention Joes. Got about a dozen left on my list.
Looking forward to Gentle Giant's 12" Vintage style Joe line
Someday I'll get off my ass and rebuild all my Bionicle stuff from the damned wasteland that is my lego bin.. And it will be goddamn glorious.
Onua was always my fav, tho. The only Toa Mata so badass he doesn't need weapons. Just his claws.
Nigga, bless your gott damn soul.
I squandered my bionicles long ago and now I have to scour sites like bricklink to find all my favorites again.
They won't because they saw the bottle in the background of your picture and don't cater to faggots like you.
Damn, I like that purple and black scheme. The only Matorans I have are Jala, Kongu and Nuparu. Because Boxor is fucking boss.
The only vintage sets I regret missing out on are Takanuva to go with Makuta, and Exo-Toa.
I only wish I was skilled enough in bionicle to make a badass Onua MOC. I have the gold mask and plenty of gold bits, but I suck at technic.
That's not even mine, just because it's on the TV rack beside me doesn't mean it's mine. That's my dad's because his back hurts every now and then from an injury while working in a cruise liner.
I'm pretty sure nobody wants a hot pink chest on their giant robot. Most pink Zord parts in general are more or less a black or white with pink accents if they're part of an intricate combination, only being pure pink if they're a singular limb on an already candy-colored robot.
Pink isn't a good color to throw around. And Sentai is targetted at children, and pink doesn't scream "powerful robot."
I kept my bionicle parts separate for that exact reason and I'll rebuild them when I get more shelf space.
I never understood why some people get rid of the canisters that the sets came in, those are great for storage.
>kept all the containers for my bionicles, throwbots and roboriders
>moving out of shitty apartment
>mom goes through my shit and thinks they're trash
>get home from school, see roborider wheel flattened on the street
>find a crushed to shit bag full of canisters than someone apparently ran over
