TFcon is happening so we'll probably get many new reveals over the weekend going by the influx of new shit last year. Hopefully we can keep it confined to one thread. In recent news, the Predaking War has nothing on the Dinobot war. As of yesterday we know of about 8 different companies making their own versions of the Dinobots. Pic related is fansproject, who continue their trend of including little robot weapons/riders in their new lines.
Also more function X figures. I think it's Hardhead, Apeface, Highbrow.
For MP Scale:
>Fanstoys-Larger than MP Grimlock scale. Already have Secoria out.
>gigapower-Larger than MP Grimlock scale/Current MP scales Pic related.
>Bullfire-Masterpiece Grimlock scale
>Planet X-FOC styled Dinobots. They already have their swoop out.
>Mechaform- updated G1 with articulation
-Justitoys Hybrid style scale
That's actually 9. I think I'm even missing a few. You could technically count TFC's Starcats Dino combiner for being super similar to Dinobots. So that's 10.
Anywhere that sells third party. Preorders should have went up for FP's stuff I think.
Mecha form was the other new dinobot set that game out of the blue. Though they seem to be going for the look of what an articulated G1 toy, they also look a tad shit.
I don't think they've ever been KO'd since it's normally Igear who knocks off other third party companies. Probably someone offloading extras or something since this "MP" Shafter is the new hotness this year.
I don't know what to think of these things. Just look at that head.
If it isn't the Virus repaint I don't know. When Function X was revealed there was a skullcruncher and Mirvana render so maybe one of those two.
So what are all the major third party developments coming down the pipe?
All dem dinobots
Maketoys Citybot series
FP Function X series Headmasters
TFC finishing Ares and starting Defensor
MMC finishing Feral Rex and starting fembot series
Apparently the first one is on sale at TFcon in exclusive color schemes and with the exclusive rider who doesn't turn into a weapon. Dat articulation doe.
Justitoys never teased HS scaled Dinobots, they teased MP ones which they're releasing using the GP name. iGear's won't happen. MF won't happen or maybe just the first one. The correct list is more like:
Meant for MP:
Meant for Classics
>Bullsfire (I know it's supposed to fit with MP Grimlock but MP Grimlock doesn't fit with the current MP line but does with Classics)
>Toyworld (teaser only)
Meant for FOC
6 to choose from (maybe 5 if TW drops them) but "only" two choices for MP, three for Classics and one for FOC. It's not really worse than the Predaking war when you put things into perspective.
>I don't need it
>I don't need it
>I don't need it
Eh, Chrome isn't bad when done tastefully like this. Plus I like the little Micro man vs the Target master. Only down side I see to the chrome is for completionist who'll want all five dinos. One chromed figure won't mesh with the rest.
Stuff like this makes TFCon seem more entertaining compared to Botcon.
If nothing more than it being for fans.
No retailer has posted him yet. He just happened to pop up unexpected so its unknown if they will. You best bet will be to get a bro to pick one up for you. Other wise it'll be evil bay.....
I'm actually just now starting to become interested in buying third party formers, does anyone have a comprehensible list of all the ones out there and maybe some recommendations for which are the best?
I saw this one, I can't remember which dood it was, but he was black with neon orange and dark purple detailings - that looked uber sick but I just didn't have the stomach to look at toys I couldn't afford at the time... Anyone know which one that was? I remember him having a hugeass sword if that helps.
Have some random concept art I found.
Jesus christ Maketoys. Just look at this burly fucker.
From MMC. I think I like their fembot mold better as Elita. Also Nova Prime is just chilling back there with his iron man armor trailer.
There isn't a big list o' third party. Best you can do is browse the catalogs of sites that sell them just to see which ones you like and what you don't like. "The best" will ultimately be what you prefer aside from the obvious build quality and Q/C issues. The biggest players are Fansproject, Maketoys, TFC, MMC, Fanstoys, Toyworld, and Perfect Effect. There are many, many more.
Pretty sure what you saw was Maketoys Chaos Paladin, which is meant to be a Power Core Combiner Fallen.
I like when I brought up the fact that TFCon is better than Botcon, Walky and Cheets jumped all over me.
I don't go around calling people corporate shills all the time just because they like Hasbro products, but those two really push it.
More Maketoys Protectobots. Already looking 100x better than TFC here.
I've never been to both so I really have no input on them.
Botcon has been tainted for me from reports of Pete being a dick and most of the panels will be at SDCC and have more new stuff.
TFCon is more laid back, fan focused and not some money hungry machine like Botcons been made into.
Just my view on them.
>Botcon has been tainted for me from reports of Pete being a dick
Pete's never been a dick that I heard? It's usually all Brian.
>most of the panels will be at SDCC and have more new stuff.
Yeah, that really does suck. I understand it and all, SDCC is WAY bigger and had more people.
But, you know, kinda helps just make Botcon even more pointless if we have to wait for a non-TF convention to get all our good news.
>TFCon is more laid back, fan focused and not some money hungry machine like Botcons been made into.
Ditto. It feels more like a "convention" like the old Botcons.
Brian Savage is honestly less a dick outside of Botcon than he is in it.
Mind you, that's because he no longer really interacts with people there. he just goes to make some announcements, and then leaves. Far better than his terrible business practices in regards to the website and all.
Wow, what a Caltcha!
Not sure if I like these colors. Almost all of the MMC fembot molds look like they're missing a shitton of paint. But dat head.
He looks next in line for release in a similar fashion that Hyper Novae was.
>MMC will continue their fembot series with a Strika, who will be a new mold. They are also teasing there may be a Jhiaxus planned...
Best news so far. Other things of note is some new company making an MP-10 sized Megatron and another fucking Menasor.

I'm guessing it's this thing. It looks like shit.
Really? That giant tank guy? Dem fucking tread legs.
It looks like it's a redo of the classics mold sort of like what Maketoys did with the Laser Prime, only with some other powermaster addon attached to it. The base figure might not look as bad but holy hell that armor looks piss poor.
Ok this looks a tiny bit familiar. I don't care who he is. This is on my radar.
DJD guys are a thing. MMC is going balls in back to comic figures.
You know, if you wanted a guy that turned into a chair.
Haha time for Skullcruncher. Those mouth grinders.
Nevermind those are Pounce and Wingspan.
Function X is honestly some of the coolest shit I've seen in the last few years of transformers. I'm so happy there are going to be more.
Oh jesus what did they do to this? I thought they were making Zoids, like a Liger zero that transformed into A Lio Convoy.
I love the designs overall, but I just can't get onboard because the hip articulation is so POINTLESSLY restricted. Is there one good reason that there's only a few degrees of sideways articulation on these things?
Yeah I'm sad, looks like total shit. I was really looking forward to this one but that lion mode is a joke.
Any more photos of this guy and his various alt modes?
You can ditch the claws for little arms.
I'm going to be fucking broke with these city bots, but goddamn is that a display piece.
That Decepticon faction shaped tail tip is intense.
Some other company is making Cyberverse sized FOC. Now that I think about it they'll go great with the city formers.
>accurate alt modes
>look better than the deluxe mold
They pressed all the buttons. Goddammit.
Looks better than Metroplex. They added way too much detail to that fucker.
Scorpnok doesn't feel as cluttered (they should try dropping those spikes on the tail, since they look like they'd snap easily).
If they make a few other I'd be down for them.
This mother fucker just looks scary.
I love it, but it's just too god damn big for me to ever consider. Wish they'd sell alternate downsized versions of these things, voyager sized would be perfect.
This guy is way more crazily detailed than Metroplex. The difference is he's more stylized instead of the traditional boxy robot so that the details compliment it better.
Seriously Scorpinok looks like a mess from the knees down. A really cool mess.
This really looks like Cassy's work. All the parallel lines and the spikes remind me of MMC's Sixshot. But I'm a sucker for Samurai robots. If these aren't shit I'm picking at least one up. New company though.
Perfect Effect has you covered for Voyager sized one.
Ok, this caught my eye, more 3rd Party Gobots, and Crasher to boot!
Also, is DX9 a new name for Unique Toys? Their slide had UT's Not-CyKill there.
Certain ones, you'll find out why later.
You mean my sponsor? I just got a payment from them and picked up multiple legends sets. I'm guessing you tried linking something from 4chan herd and got laughed off the face of the net again eh? Sorry, try harder next time son.
Can never have. Will always want.
I think this is the first Bike-former I've liked in a long time, hot damn.
So FP is making their own Powermaster Prime? Looks pretty rad if it doesn't require an included figure.
Thought that guy looked pretty bland in the comics, but dat alt mode is great. Might pick him up.
I don't really care for the DJD, so I can pass on these
I need to get into Function X. Not-Chromedome doesn't look that great, and I can skip Smart Robin since I'm gonna get the Hasbro version, but Quadruple U looks pretty neat
Not really feeling these until we see protos, and even then I'll probably only get the Banzaitron one. Don't really care for Dai-Atlas and I already have ROTF Bludgeon. Though I understand wanting to milk a mold for all it's worth.
Also this thread is reminding me what the heck is keeping my B&A Six Sigma so long. I don't even have a Metroplex yet and I'm loving the way he looks
The thing about FX is that you get the most enjoyment out of them, if you really like transformation engineering. Jiizai is a genius at that. Smart Robin is one of the best ones so far. The transformation is a thing of beauty.
And what of the Mushroom Kingdom bots? I would look myself but I don't think my heart could take it.
There is also the mini Blaster set with Steeljaw and the Miniature Slammer and Sixgun. Between these three companies. Add in some fitting Cyberverse and the City bots and things are going to get fun.
Meh, it's not Scorponok I care about, just Maketoys' design in particular. It's absolutely fucking masterful, but about 3 to 4 times larger than I would ever want — both for the price and my personal preferences.
Furrow and Rotor really intrigue me, ugly hip joints notwithstanding.
Ugh I hope TFC shows their hot spot, as I'm not digging maketoys style of combiners they look too small for my display.
Pretty much the best looking hot spot seals the deal for which protectobot I'll collect.
Here's a close up of MT hotspot. TFC is showing off theirs in alt mode ATM.
I know right? it's soo good!
Kinda interesting how both Maketoys and Perfect Effect are homaging Energon Scorponok with those cheek vents, as I'm quite sure he didn't have them in G1
I'm not complaining though, I did think Energon Scorp was pretty cool as a kid
>I did think Energon Scorp was pretty cool as a kid
mandatory "fuck I'm getting old" post
It's a bunch of different companies doing this, though the quantity is pretty astounding even factoring that in. 3rd party used to be an addendum to Hasbro/Takara stuff, now it's just about a replacement. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Classics style 84/85 Autobots that Classics already covered, like Prowl or Trailbreaker, in the next year or so. A lot of people were disappointed with the classics versions of those, and while MPs exist/are inevitable, a lot of people's focus remains the Classics style line.
Anyways,a major reason for this expansion is that most 3rd parties are Chinese, and they fucking love transformers. The G1 toon was one of the first major western cartoons to air over there, and it caused a pokemon-level sensation.
There's been 3rd parties here-and there since the mid-90's, but most of those were garage kits only for sale in Japan, or accessories for existing figures. But yeah, Fansproject was the first major mass producer, though it was the classics cliffjumper upgrade set that was their first release.
There was that Cliffjumper upgrade, but I cited City Commander because that was the one that turned everyone's heads.
It was the must have item of 2010(?) and a large part of the reason the UM and Skywarp set is too dang expensive.
Action Robo for FP and MT. Also MMC's own store Planet Steel Express. Both reliable.
Before that there were some garage kits and some licenced stuff in Japan. Then a few accessory pieces like the Vector Sigma Key and the Golden Disks, the unicron.com stands, that sort of thing. Fansproject really kicked it off with City Commander though that wasn't their first product. Colossus sent things into high gear as a combiner upgrade and full fledged replacement figures. Defender is pretty much garbage compared to what they're putting out today but that was the first standalone that got people thinking. A full combiner set with TFC's Hercules got the combiner trend going. Now we have companies popping up all over the place. Some doing radically different things to carve out their own niche, and some stepping all over each other's toes.
I don't think there is any other toy series with such a huge unofficial third party backing.
Function X time. Now with the power of weebums.
Hardhead looks like you can fold up the guns and switch between toy and cartoon head.
Oh shit I actually just noticed he completely hides the windshield in his chest.
Apeface is doing some intense origami to make it beefy enough for an ape mode. Those arms and legs fill out the body instead of clogging it up with kibble in both the jet and robot modes. And that fucking head swap is brilliant.
Youtube keeps shitting out on me, but the blank spot sort of covers up the propeller/tank repositioning and an optional visor. Otherwise he looks a little unexciting and the alt mode is ok. Dat leg transformation doe.
I haven't been too interested in the Function-X line due to their price and kinda lackluster articulation.
The line does seem to be taking heed to criticisms as most of these look like they have better shoulder movement. Apeface looks awesome and I can forgive if he doesn't have the best range since he looks like a fun triple changer. Can't wait for their eventual Snapdragon
I know these are old shit by now, but does anyone have a recommendation for or against getting one? I own zero classics-styled seekers.
I haven't heard anything bad except that the headsculpts are you like it or you hate it. They look fairly cool at least but apparently there are even more Starscreams coming from some other group.
Nice that Igear actually released something this decade though.
Kinda wish he had less detail, like, maybe more like the 3d model but not EXACTLY the same
And maybe there's a bit too much grey on his torso
With that said though I'm still seriously thinking about getting him, he'd be the most expensive toy I own, but the stylization wins me over pretty hardcore
Have Make Toys said anything about his head transforming into a dude? you'd think we'd have seen that by now, for the price this'll probably go for, it better transform into a dude...
What other Starscreans are coming out soon?
I mainly just dig Decepticons with (somewhat) realistic aircraft modes. If there's something else coming with a solid jet mode I might hold off.
Somebody in one of the other TF threads that got deleted posted something about a third party Plesiosaur Dinobot but I don't remember what what the figure name or the company was. Does anybody have the image or any more info on the company making it?
This thing is really weird. I'm not entirely sure who they're aiming this weapon voltron combiner thing at. The first one turns into a pretty crappy gun, that compromises the lion mode quite a bit. I can't really imagine anyone is going to be very interested in this.
What makes this so strange, is the fact that the original concept art was based on Don's cybertronian Lio Convoy. That was the big draw for most people. Why they decided to change it so drastically is beyond me.
Thank Christ. She's always seemed under appreciated in the fandom to me. Her first appearance was as the bot Optimus trusted to lead the resistance on Cybertron against a superior Decepticon enemy. She should be regarded as some kind of grand wizard badass.
Its a shame because the concept of the design is really good
Also, what the fuck captcha
They have some colored renders and so far, so good. The colors are very basic shades so they're a bit unimpressive but we know from looking at the final shots of the retail release of Sludge that the actual colors will be much nicer. The important part is that the molds themselves look good. There's also the Slag prototype >>4282371 posted and it looks great. I just preordered Sludge today so it looks like I've resigned myself to getting them all. At least, all of the core Dinobots. We'll have to see just what LER-05 turns out to be before I decide to get him or not.
Thinking of it, a 3rd party line of Transformers using alt modes from various franchises could be nice. A Metal Slug that turns into a fat military robot, an Ingram that turns into a police truck, an R-Type ship that turns into a japanese style mech... I would totally buy that.
