Does anyone know of any non-cartoony style city displays / dioramas / whatever?
I find it hard to believe that no one has produced a generic cityscape / battlefield yet.
Someone do a kickstarter for a modular cityscape with effect parts and ill give you all my monies.
theres a facebook group called "diostructure" or something along those lines - it's a bunch of guys who make custom cityscapes and whatnot.
>>4265673
I had the 90s Spider-Man playset. It was good for its time.
>>4265673
>Someone do a kickstarter for a modular cityscape with effect parts and ill give you all my monies.
Why don't you do it?

What playset is the red building behind the Spawn Alleyway?
Are there good playsets to use these days?
They don't seem to exist as much as they used to and I want some displays I can play around with.
I've been using Nendoroid sets with Figma's, it works pretty good despite the scale but....I miss shit like Castle Grayskull size.
>>4266686
Playmates Police Academy. It's turned so that would be the side of it, with the doors facing to the left.
The Kenner Wayne Manor/Batcave playset is another great one that would work in that display. It has multipul re-deco options as well.
>>4265729
thats all cardboard, my mom wouldnt let me get it as a kid. Too expensive for what you get.
>>4265673
>mfw the majority of these set are made for 1/18 scale, and the few made in 1/12 scale are hard to get or stupidily expensive to get, being the saddest part that I'm a 1/12 scalefag
>>4267033
TMNT has the Pizza Box play sets and this puppy. G.I. Joe had the Pit playset five years back.
> we will never get a new G.I. Joe playset from Hasbro ever again.
I'd post a sad frog image here if I could.
>>4268961
I haven't seen these in person, but something to keep an eye out for.

>>4268976
Holy shit how big is that?
I'd put Madoka V Sentai all over that thing.
Where is it sold at?
>>4270326
TRU should still have some. WalMart had a bunch for clearence just after christmas, down to like $60 (it was originally $100)
>>4268976
What's up with the suicide on the bottom-right?
It's funny how action figure playsets are so rare now, and when they do come out they tend to be so expensive, when Mattel can get larger Monster High sets out the door that don't cost a fortune. The school set is $60 on Amazon and most other places, they have plenty of smaller sets, and I believe another large set is due. It's not like these sets are any less quality or size than the equivalent action figure set would be.
>>4270344
Monster High playsets rot on shelves and have since the first wave, that new TMNT playset flew off shelves at Christmas and I haven't seen one since. Why aren't we getting something like a Batcave, huh Mattel?
>>4271311
Mattel churns out tons of Batcaves, but they're targeted at the audience most likely to enjoy them.
>>4265673
OP, what is the white building to the right?
Big Lots usually has this building from PTE during the Christmas holiday.
Best bet for playsets is to look for gi joe and starwars on ebay.

I want to buy and furnish my own doll house.

>>4277665
I think your husband needs a bitch slap across the face, if it's your money you can spend on whatever you like (as long as you're not drowning in bills). If you have the extra cash in the budget to spend on a hobby you'd enjoy, then do it because imo dolls and toys is a far better investment (and I don't even mean financially) then drugs and alcohol.
>>4277665
Sounds like you guys have a solid foundation. Im sure you will enjoy many more years together.
>>4277665
I feel bad for you...
My wife and I find that booze and mj complements playing with our extensive pile o toys quite nicely.
Anyway... I feel like I'm perched on the edge of some abyss as I contemplate a dollhouse to house some of my figures. I think I'm gonna have to buy another motorcycle first...
>>4265673
you guys are one step away from getting a doll house.

These are great for the 1/12 scale. I've got the same cupcake bakery one, was looking to get the DQ one too. Don't think you're going to find these anymore at TRU, your best bet would be to go and grab them from Amazon.
miWorld stuff.
It took me forever to find the DQ set. I found all the others right away.
DQ and Sprinkles are the only sets I have.

If you've got a smart-phone, use that, otherwise, print the page with the address intact. They should be able to check it on their own computers as well. If that doesn't work, you could order one from Walmart as a ship-to-store and then return the one you have(or, really, the new one with the TRU receipt. There's no difference in product, only in price)
>>4283483
Question though - I live in Hawaii and prices on everything are jacked up, due to shipping costs.
Does that affect it in anyway?
>>4283664
If it's a price match, they should still match it, regardless of 'extra fees'. As to Wal-mart Ship-to-store, no idea. Every time I've wanted to use it, it's blacked out, so I've never looked closely at the stipulations. Just check with the manager if there's an issue.
>>4282913
Nice!
I have that set too but have not had a chance to open it up and display it. Its freaking huge.
The smaller TMNT sets work great for 1:18 figures.

Time to browse eBay for the PR guy.
Yeah, if I order it through TRU it'll come to about $20 with postage. It'd cost me $20 on gas alone to drive to TRU and back, and if they don't have it there that's $20 wasted.
Anyone got some pics of some of those toy-sized video game consoles?
>>4284586
check eBay, most are made by Yujin. Just be warned, they can go for some expensive cash for their size. It seems cheaper sellers sell out fast and you either pay $15 for one piece or $60 for a set.
In a way, it's almost insulting that a 1:12 Sega Genesis sells for more than a real Sega Genesis.
>>4283795
It's amazing.
It's just like all the other playsets I had growing up.
Shitty vague instructions that miss a couple pieces.
Sticker sheets with no where to put sticker sheet.
I nostalgia'd over it and and hated putting it together, I had to use the box a couple times.
But now that it's built I'm in love with it. I need to put the sentai in there too.

that's a really helpful video Mad Max, now I really want that playset
>>4284684
It's a great playset. Just make sure you've got the room for it. It's not a flat-back set, so it won't shove right up against a wall. The base dimensions are about 35"x17". That's along the wall and deep to the wall. You might want to just make it a 3'x2' floorspace just for some extra room, especially because of some of the flip-out gimmicks.
>>4284701
thabks for the advise, bro
>>4265673
theres a company called WorldWorks that makes papercraft sets for miniatures games (in Modern, Fantasy, SciFi, and several periods); I'm sure a couple of those could be upscaled to your chosen figure range
I have this old pokemon battle tower i got for $20 bucks a few years ago. It's got a trapdoor, a vibrating tree branch thing, a spring loaded-cannon and a manual elevator.

Couldn't think of anything that would fit the vague 'collector' idea. There's plain dollhouses, there's the Nendoroid sets, and then there's a few odds and ends. Oh, and the Chain Bases.

Not who you're replying to, but they are amazing. I'm a big fan of the Sprinkles set.
I get almost all of my display sets from Etsy. Be warned, there is some craptastic shit on there. You will be so amazed at what people will try to sell.
I've been looking into this too recently. Anything I'm interested in is too expensive, or won't scale right. For the prices of what some playsets go for I feel like I'd be better off making my own dioramas instead.
Those miworld sets look good though. Will get those.
sylvanian families /calico critters stuff for nendos
>>4286252
No
They're toys.
For kids.
>>4287778
Sylvanian Families are perfect for nendos and other 1/12 scaled figures but might be a bit too small for figma and GI Joe.
The quality is top notch though and if you check local classifieds frequently you'll probably find some great deals. I bought two used Sylvanian Families mansions with a pile of furniture for around $50 from Kijiji. I ordered a bit more furniture from Amiami and also accessorized with my Re-Ment stuff and it looks really adorable :)
>>4287778
niiiiice. I really need to look into getting some of that stuff. But I can be a bit pricey.
>>4286376

Aside from the holding chairs and tables, it appears to be entirely constructed from scratch, using something like balsa or basswood with computer printouts for textures. You could make the same thing with enough time and dedication.

>'Cause if I woke up looking like that, I would just run to the nearest living thing and kill it."
So a friend linked me to a dollhouse thing the other day that had turning one of those pink cutesy dollhouse shelves for girls into a Batcave, firehouse, or army base for boys 1/6 figures. Pretty neat idea, just took some spray paint and stencils. Anyone try anything similar before?
>>4301593
can you share the link?
>>4284486
kenner released another version of that for robin hood
>>4300411
I still got my firehouse back in my parents basement.
I found some old Mage Knight terrain sets at my old comic shop that I just use for backdrops. Really a more miniature scale, but just the hills work for any figure.
Finally got this in from TRU, they had it on sale a week ago for 15 bucks. Ditched the 'escape pod'/watch tower thing and crane for turning the gun on its side instead. Makes it more obviously just a plastic plank with feet attached, but it's not horrible for 15. The 70-80 they wanted it for originally was fucking stupid though.
Decent Aerial-bots base though, stows most of the Fansproject upgrade except for his feet(which fit in the 'trap door', but there's nothing to hold them in there, so I've some modding to do).
>>4287768
MiWorld is worth the price hope the line continues
>>4283802
It didn't come with a figure. Not to mention there isn't a metal piece in the whole set, so it'd be odd to include a magnetic figure.
>>4297057
holy shit
>>4303292
With a sharp knife, a bit of super glue and some patience, you can actually cut the turret joint from the gun itself and attach it under the gun so the seat sits flat and be usable (the smaller jets may actually even fit in it). It actually looks *much* better. That said, it really wasn't worth the original 80 bucks they were asking for, they should have (and easily could have) added some more to this thing as it's a pretty lazily done toy.
>>4305265
COOOOOOBRAAAAAAA!
>>4305265
I might do that, but for now I'm happy with how it is. What bothers me is, as you said, lazy as fuck. The GI Joe Pit, for 20 bucks more, got so very much more playvalue packed in. The jail-cell's a bit goofy, the rocky section's a bit lame, but it's just got so much more going on.
Granted, there was a 3 year gap, but this was the seasonal toy for the biggest Marvel movie to date. I'd have wanted it at least two-tiers, have the fins fold out so to simulate sea-bound mode, etc. Have a tank on the underside so kids can do the Drop Hulk scene. Would have been better than the 'escape pod' at any rate.
>>4305273
It works so well for them it's like it was meant to be. Firebats/Skysweepers fit perfectly on the deck.
>>4305290
I personally loved the Pit in all it's goofy, beefieness. My only complaint about that playset is that it's too small (i.e. it's a smaller scale then the actual joes when you compare the bed it comes with to the figures). But with the Helicarrier, the control pod alone should have at least had SOME details put into it, instead it's just a big empty plastic block. I plan on trying to add things like a lower deck or some sort of control details to mine because it's just...lame as is. Even with the small mods I already did to it.
>>4307188
Bought a couple of these on super clearance(1.75 each), planning on turning at least two into linked, light-and-sound thrusters for the back. Going to try and figure out some sort of storage/quick-launch space for the Aerial-bots I've got(the new Aerials are damn tempting), and someone gave me the idea to try and turn the Helicarrier into a giant Broadside, so I'm going to look into that.
>>4304064
me too, I haven't have the opportunity to get some of those
sadfrog.exe
>>4277665
Divorce.
You can come live with me, I like dollhouses.
So I've been collecting playsets for a while, and one of my attempts to combine them is this giant thing. This is a temporary setup, and there are a lot of things I'm not too satisfied about, but it's enough to get the idea across. I'd like the final version to have some knockout-bits in the Isla Cruces playset(waterwheel), a better throne-room(under the stool) with a 'sword' from that tower structure(Tower of Omens). Maybe a smithy, some gap-fillers and risers for the lower sections. Currently have three gates on this thing, not too pleased about that, and an open back, more on that in a few seconds.
>>4311265
This one's a little smaller because it's not showing off much more. This setup's pretty damn big, so I wasn't planning on having it out for long, about 3'x3'. I figure either have a 'mountain' as the back of the place instead of leaving it open for the ship, that'd probably do better on the other side of the lighthouse, but it's a work in progress(in other words, a godawful mess).
>>4286491
My TRU has these! Might have to pick up either DQ or Candy Shop. Only 14.99
>>4311265
Lol i have most of those except the one with the orange bell. What play set is that?
>>4311692
Hmmm after further inspection it doesnt look like a bell, it looks like a flame. Its the one with the boats next to it.
>>4311692
>>4311700
A rundown of all the playsets that are in that:
>Narnia Prince Caspian Deluxe Castle
>Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Isla Cruces
>Pirates of the Caribbean Queen Anne's Revenge
>Imaginext Castle Battle Plan Playset
>Prince of Persia Alamut Gate
Only parts of the following were used:
>Thundercats 2011 Tower of Omens(Main Tower)
>Mortal Kombat Shao Kahn Throne and Arena(Pillars and chains)
>True Heroes Deluxe Dragon Playset(Most of the set, just left out the statues)
>True Heroes Pirate Island and Cave(One of the islands, minus the thatch-roofed lookout)
>True Heroes Pirate Fortress(The Lighthouse, the dungeon, and the little boat)
>True Legends Heroes of Olympus(Just the chain, most of the Greek True Legends has it)
>X-Men Origins Wolverine Weapon X(Just the chains)
The one with the flame is the lighthouse part of the True Heroes Pirate Fortress playset.
So I wasn't the only one who was pissed off that monster toys never came with skyscrapers and shit?
>>4311990
Thanks man! I need to head back to TRU and look for those True Heroes playsets.
>>4312301

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12934472&cp=&parentPage=search
I've been wanting that damned Cave set for a while, it's got a random Aztec-style door that flips out to reveal a pirate captain skeleton hanging from a web. Took a chance on the Fortress set, and it's surprisingly great(though the flame with sound thing is weak). The Fortress/Jailcell actually hinges shut and locks, it's really a nice piece on its own. Also, the treasure in both chests is the same stamp, but the Cave set one's missing part of the mold, don't know why I find that funny.
>>4302079
It was a set of unsourced pics on Pinterest, but I tracked the Batcave part down. Googling "firehouse dollhouse" turns up similar stuff, so have a look around. Great idea though. As long as the house is the right scale, you could turn it into near anything with some stencils, paint, and some wood scraps.
>diaryofapreppymom.com/2012/11/the-super-hero-house-tour.html
Here's the other playset amalgamation I'm working on, a multi-tiered defunct temple. Parts are:
>Indiana Jones The Lost Temple of Akator
>Indiana Jones With Temple Trap
>Indiana Jones with Temple Pitfall
And parts of:
>Indiana Jones Akator Temple Race Game(Main body, don't know what I did with cards or mini-Indies)
>True Heroes Pirate Island and Cave(Cave island and temple opening)
It's smaller, but then there's not really much out there for this sort of thing.
>>4316944

I got papers to finish my Goodwill house finally. FYI, just go to Michaels or whatever and get scrapbook paper rather than pay for dollhouse paper. Its literally the same weight of paper, or even nicer if you go for the embossed shit. Can even find wood, tile, textures, and I even saw one with a 3D antique ceiling tile look. Most expensive stuff was $2 for a sheet large enough to do a whole room.
>>4322724
Scrapbooking paper looks awesome as dollhouse wallpaper. I bought mine from Michaels as well and also bought some felt while I was there, so I could make rugs, pillows, etc. Scraps of lace trim make nice curtains, if you want that look. Fixing up a dollhouse is super fun... please post pics when you're finished :)
