Very few kamigawa cards, kodama's reach and glimpse of nature in karametra. Graceful adept and azami in azami.

And then I have 2 decks with no kamigawa cards at all. I own a sensei's top but I don't like playing with the card, it's tedious. Don't own a jitte but I probably wouldn't play it cuz I don't attack much with creatures

>What do you use out of this much-maligned block?

Supreme Hardmode: Sakura-tribe Elder. I have a misprinted one with red/pink splotch on it that looks like falling cherry blossoms. It's just so perfect, and one of my favorite cards I own, something I would never trade.

Hardmode: Prerelease Ryusei the Falling Star. Makes a pretty good boardwipe in my Intet Dragon Tribal deck.

Easymode: No-Dachi makes an appearance in any deck that uses equipment, because I am a shameless Japanophile.
>>
Quick question, anyone have that Kami of the Crescent Moon pic from a while back? Something like ARCANE LAB STASIS ARCANE LAB STASIS PLEASE MAKE IT STOP or something similar. I need it for a friend.
>>
When in mean mode, Yosei + Gift of Immortality + Sac outlet. Target the next opponent in line on each player's turn.

8.5 tails in a swords paint everything white deck.

Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang is a borderline Equipment tutor target for decks with Godo/SFM that can cheat it onto the battlefield.

SDT is personally limited to decks like Azusa+Oracle of Mul Daya decks that can use it for obviously beneficial plays.

Not in EDH, but Eiganjo Freeriders in a white ETB deck. Recasting SFM/Lone Missionary/Wall of Omens/Kor Cartographer/etc. Similarly, Sosuke's Summons/Sakura-Tribe dorks/Seshiro in a Snake deck with Beastmaster's Ascension. Loam Dweller/Elder Pine of Jukai/Kodama of the South Tree/Traproot Kami in a Mono Green spirits deck with Nissa, Vital Force and Primal Bellow. I also want to make a Jeskai Arcane Heroic deck using multitarget Arcane cards like Unearthly Blizzard and cheap targeting Splice cards with Battlefield Thaumaturge/other heroic creatures, but I haven't put a list together yet.

One pirate wench, is that too much to ask? It wasn't that long ago we had Crossway Vampire.

But what would it be? Red and white have such little overlap beyond weenies aggro and equipment? I know a lot of people say spellslinger but I don't see it. Best I can think of is some sort of HateBears/punisher effect or stax.

>>55354247
That seems really rough to actually make work. You'd want him out early to get the most out of him but those seem super strong. So I guess RBG1 for those abilities stapled to a 0/1.

Or maybe instead of ETB you could make it a sac trigger and have can play extra land on turn?

But as >>55355660 said. If it doesn't say "face-down," then they're always face-up.
>>
>>55355756
Because you can exile from multiple players' graveyards.

If you exiled them face down you'd be able to tell the cards apart by sleeve.
>>
>>55355756
To clarify; a dual-faced card can be turned face-down or manifested, but it isn't treated as its transformed side. It's just a 2/2 no ability creature.
Also, if it was manifested and has the chance to flip itself, that's morphing, not transforming. Abilities won't trigger off of it.
>>
>>55355836
Ooooh. That makes sense. But, yeah. Would've said face-down.

3RBG
Legendary Creature - Elemental
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may sacrifice a creature you control, put X +1/+1 counters on target land you control, where X is that creature's converted mana cost, that land becomes an Elemental creature, it's still a land.
Sacrifice a Mountain: Elementals you control get Haste
Sacrifice a Forest: Elementals you control get Trample
Sacrifice a Swamp: Elementals you control get Deathtouch

>>55356064
I'm thinking about it and the Landfall trigger seems a bit too limited. Unless you have tons of creatures sitting around it doesn't do much when you get multiple lands per turn.
I'm changing it to:
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, target land you control becomes a 3/3 Elemental creature until end of turn, it's still a land.
Makes more sense to me at least.

I'd definitely skip Boreal Druid even at a 1 drop Mana dork, you have enough other dorks and sources of mana.

Arbor Elf only untap a forests meaning all your other nice lands can't be untapped by it.

I like Argothian Elder myself, decent card that you can get a ton of use out of.

I'm torn on Elves of Deep Shadows. You don't have a ton of black, but that extra mana fixing could be nice.

Queen Marchesa is literally the best choice for a Royalty Deck with a Knigt Subtheme.
>>
>>55357228
>are there any ways to make an enemy the monarch?

You have deathtoucher. Tell one of your opponents to do something, take out an enchantment or a particularly tricky to deal with creature or something, and in exchange you'll let them take Monarch from you. And most likely they'll let you take it back when you attack with one of your Assassin Tokens, because it's only one damage.

You have to play politics for Queen Marchesa, long may she reign.

Trying a casual, moderately budget Cromat deck, themed around cycles and multi-colored.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/chromatic-cromat/

1. I'm not sure if my mana base is good enough. I used to have all 10 signets in, but that seemed like overkill. Not sure if I should remove something to move 5 in.
2. I currently have the shard and wedge charm cycles; should I drop one of them to make room for other stuff, and/or should I swap one of them for the Dragon Charm cycle?
3. How are my creature cycles? Should I try to fit the CMC 2 "Blade" cycle in for some lower-cost creatures?

(Chromatic Lantern, Coalition Relic and the like would be great for this deck, but I'm wary of cost)

Thanks for any suggestions!

i don't really care for 1 drop mana dorks in general. they aren't impactful enough to earn the slot. if i were you i'd take out lllanowar, fyndhorn, and mystic. i'm trying to think of in-depth advice to give but youre deck is so far from a deck i would ever build that it's difficult.

i suggest forgotten ancient, rec sage, and rishkar as alternatives though. imo any deck with gyre sage could use a forgotten ancient.
>>
>>55358077
I agree with you on 1 drop mana dorks, I put them in because I've had quite a few people telling me to run them even though I have other ways of ramping. If I drop them do you think I should just bump the lands back up to a decent number?

Forgotten Ancient is a good call, I basically just did gatherer searches for elves and that's what I mainly crammed into the deck.

>>
>>55358488

>>
>>55358488
He's a "Do everything on a stick" kind of card that absorbs you whole deck until he's an amalgamated toolbox of a card that is shooting off answers to everything while being nigh unkillable.
For example, Mairsil with any flicker effect is going to basically be around all game and will be devouring cards from your hand and graveyard until he hits peak utility and you fuck people to death with value. Imagine having shit like an almost un-removable Arcanis so you can draw 3 whenever you feel like it or any number of value artifacts.
He works amazing with self mill too.
>>
>>55358582

I don't think it's nearly as easy as you think to make him "nigh unkillable"
>>
>>55358633
Any creature that can flicker on bounce itself is a very good start and being in grixis you can easily tutor and number of those cards to your yard/hand before you even consider casting Mairsil. It's actually a lot easier than you think anon.
>>
>>55358582
Have you actually played this card
>>
>>55353324

That's why you entomb or buried alive Cavern Harpy or Aetherling first. He's 100% pointless otherwise. He's not the kind of general you windmill slam turn 4 without any setup.

It isn't like you can't just cast your cage targets if you don't draw his protection or tutors. Plus, we call him Captain Jank for a reason, he's not like Animar or Zur.

He's still very hard to kill and if they're throwing all their removal and Mairsil while I fllicker him to the end step with Aetherling's ability, redirect their spell with Torchling or give him shroud with Morphling.

>>55358766
Yes. If you have a decent number of tutours in your deck you will be able to jam Aetherling as the first thing in the cage every game.
>>
>>55358766
You can even stick Aetherling on him.
>>
>>55358108
oh shit yeah. i didn't even realize how low your land count was. i run 34 lands in most of my decks and i consider myself to be very stingy about land count.

if you want more extensive advice here ya go: you need to hone in on what you deck is trying to do. increase the level of synergy. lose the life gain. you have eldamri in your deck and he gives all of your elves forestwalk. s0 you should be running song of dryads because it's great removal and also enables forestwalk.

you have a few instances of group draw that don't really seem to make sense to me. anvil of bogardan and geier reach sanitarium don't seem to reinforce your central themes. i think primordial sage is too expensive to be effective card draw. i'm not a huge fan of burgeoning/exploration either, especially in a deck with low land count. skyshroud claim is better imo. sword of the animist is good for a deck that wants to attack. elvish abberation combos well with some graveyard recursion stuff.

in general you should focus on trying to go wide with lots of small creatures that you can sac/recur/generate or alpha strike. more removal is always good. yes urza's incubator is worth it.

Still tweaking my list, I still have some choices but seeing that new list gives me some more ideas.

>>55355675

Charms + Blink Effects go a long way.

Heck one Christmasland combo would be getting Deadeye Navigator and a Soulfire Grandmaster out at the same time. Getting the two of each from Ramos can afford you casting Jund Charm and having it return to your hand via Soulfire and the Deadeye Blink... plus one extra mana that can be either green, white or black.
>>
>>55359209
The people doing combos in the first 3 turns aren't doing "weird janky interaction combos", they're going full singleton stormnigger because they want to win.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of fast combo and stormniggery at times myself but EDH really isn't the place for it. People who bring combo to EDH basically want to play the same 10 cards every game despite it being a singleton format and just pray to god their opponents didn't put nothing but interaction in their decks.

>>
>>55359838
Combo is much more favored in EDH than other formats, due to its ability to ignore the size of your table. Aggro, on the other hand, is less powerful, and midrange struggles as well. Draw-go control is unfavorable, and is replaced with Stax.
>>
>>55359838
Its much more varied than other formats, with the competitive decks being drastically different from normal decks. Unlike almost all other formats there is a large demographic of players whos primary enjoyment of the game doesnt come from winning. This leads to more interesting, slower decks overall. Competitive lists are typically 99 card storm decks with doomsday and laboratory maniac included.

>>55358997
>The reason I was running the stuff like Geier and Anvil was to get a bit more use out of Nath
i feel like there are better ways to make your opponents discard then giving them a card draw

sadistic hypnotist is a free sac outlet (!) that forces discard. borderland explorer is an elf that ramps you and causes discard. lots of options.

doubling season, parallel lives, and even dual nature should be considered for tokens. also druid's deliverance.
>>
>>55359838
Both of those defend on your playgroup. EDH is a casual format at heart and don't let people tell you otherwise. Decks that need heavy consistency to grind out a win though like aggro or midrange struggle a little due to the singleton nature but otherwise the format can range anywhere from timmy battlecruiser magic to turn 2 legacy singleton storm degeneracy.
>>
Synergy can be fun, but it can't be the same thing every time. It gets dull.

I was really pleased used Arena in the middle of combat with Bow of Nylea. It was a combination of cards I hadn't seen before. It isn't good enough to win the game and it doesn't happen every game, but it was fun to discover. It isn't all about being a special snowflake, novelty is just fun.
>>
>>55359879
>Faggot hipsters play stuff like Mairsil or Skeleton Ship because they need to be special snowflakes, they don't like magic they like to be special snowflakes and magic let's you do that if you feel the need

The biggest thing that separates EDH from other formats is a casual attitude towards deckbuilding and play. Yes, people build competitive decks, but everyone has a "for fun" deck that they bust out if their hyper-efficient deck is too much for the table.

It's a multiplayer format, which makes it a very interesting political game. Assessing threats and convincing people to help you are more valuable than having the strongest cards. Starting at 40 life also helps you stay alive longer if you happen to have bad luck in the early game, and also lets you set up a boardstate that you could never achieve in 20 life formats.

>Specifically what deck types are more favored?
Very much depends on your table. Combo flourishes if your table doesn't run interaction. Aggro in the form of voltron or go-wide can be great if your table is durdling. Control takes the form of stax, since you're not going to be able to keep up with counterspelling 3 other players, and does very well. There are also pillowfort and group hug decks that take a completely different approach. Something for everyone.

Stupid question:
So the commander starts in the command zone but needs to be cast to be used, and if it leaves the field it goes back to the command zone and needs to be recast at 2 higher cost right?
>>
>>55360560
If it leaves the field for any other zone you may CHOOSE to send it to command zone instead. If it was getting sent to your hand, graveyard, exile, shuffled into library etc. you may allow it to go to those zones but once it's there you can't send it to the command zone until the next time it's on the battlefield and sent to another zone as I understand it.
This means you can use flicker effects on your commander, you can return it to your hand to cast it without the casting cost pentalty and you can send it to your graveyard if you want to reanimate it.
>>
>55360554
This bait almost got me.
>>
>>55359918
On the other hand is it even worth it for me to do dual color with how little black I'm running. I could probably run less land if I switched to just Ezuri/Yeva/Eladamri

Thank you.
>>
>>55360326
>>have fun and no one in the group is mad that I went infinite
I love tables like this. "Okay, nobody's got an answer? Cool, play another one?"
>>
>>55360560
Being put into the command zone is a replacement effect the commander's owner may choose if the commander would leave the battlefield. You may choose to allow the commander to go to a zone other than the command zone should it leave the battlefield, in which case it will behave normally. Commander tax only considers casts made from the command zone.

Example: if you cast your commander once from the command zone, and someone casts Unsummon on it, you may choose to allow it to return to your hand normally when Unsummon resolves, rather than the command zone replacing the effect. If you cast your commander from your hand afterwards, and it is destroyed, you may send it to the command zone instead of your graveyard. The casting cost for next time will be n + 2, due to only being cast from the command zone one time, despite you casting your commander twice during the game.
>>
>>55360651
This. I only ever play with friends anymore, but when grognards at the LGS got triggered over me going infinite off of some 4+ card jank combo that I didn't even tutor for.
>>
>>55360622
You may be underutilizing black, then. It never hurts to have a Read the Bones / Skeletal Scrying on hand. You have very few black creatures that would be strong in this strategy such as Herald of Anguish, and your removal package is a tad light. You may also want to really push the discard with Unnerve or Ill-Gotten Gains.
>>
>>55360665
>>55360607

You can choose to put your commander into the command zone if he would go to library, hand, graveyard or exile from anywhere, not only from battlefield. So if your commander is in your grave and someone exiles your grave, you can toss it back to the command zone.

Also note that if your commander would die, but you send him to the command zone, it doesn't 'die' and doesn't trigger stuff that cares about creatures dying.

But it won't be good. That is usually independent from price, surprisingly enough.
>>
>>55360796
I'm trying to add in some black. I've got 21 cards that use black in there right now but of course I need to cut again.
>>
>>55360903
a really good edh deck is 100-400 dollars. below or above that range and things start to fall flat or have decreasing returns.
>>
>>55360927
I wouldn't say independent of price. It's hard to spend $1,000 dollars on a bad deck, assuming you're not just pimping.
>>
>>55360903
Depends on the size of the lgs, if there is say 10 regulars and 5 of them play super combo just play with the other 4 instead, is a regular group if someone constantly brings unfun bullshit it gets tired real fast and people just stop playing with them, if its a small lgs with only 3-4 regulars then you will need a gentlemans agreement
>>
>>55360903
I got a group that plays tons of diverse decks with some good stuff, but there's always those guys who play atraxa superfriends and Abreya so what can you do.
>>
>>55360903
Some LGS have full cEDH stormfests. Others are like a convention of DesolatorMagic copycats. Occasionally, you might find something other than that, but I've yet to see it in the LGSes I've seen that even support commander as a format.
>>
>>55360961
i run lots and lots of playtests on tappedout to see what seems awkward.

imagine each of the cards in your deck as a dot and lines connecting all of the dots that work well together. if you see any dots that don't connect to many other dots then those either need to be game winning cards or they need to be cut. in the end you want all of the dots to be connected to a lot of dots so that your deck is a tightly woven blanket of synergies.

>We know him well, he was in our high school for a few years and he's just always around the neighbourhood
>He says basically "I heard you guys play magic, I do too"

>I have a friend who plays Narset, not like time walk Narset, like I can cast lightning strike for free if it just happens to be on top of my library narset
>A with the Teferi deck explodes his guildgates
>A constantly cheats, afterwords we counted up seven situations where he cheated
>When I call him out on cheating (Milling a creature and trying to activate it's "when this creature dies ability") he says "I'm a level one judge I know better than him
>Finally he wins after like 30 turns
>Says it's the first win his deck has ever had
>Try to get him to leave
>He ends up standing around watching while we shoot some hoops
>>
>>55361050
The entire price of a deck is the land base plus 2 or 3 other cards, you can make perfectly viable 2 color decks for $400 thats without duals
