What's your favourite model to paint, /40kg/, the one you're always happy to paint more of? For me it's the basic fire warrior, they're pretty easy to paint with lots of nice sharp edges for highlighting, but still involved enough to keep me interested (i.e. it's not just a case of doing the whole model one or two colours then slapping a drybrush & wash over the top).

Bought a Chaos Predator for my DG today.

Kinda regret it after reading Plagueburst Cralwer profile. It can also do anti-tank with 36" sponson meltas and D6 S8, -2ap and d3 damage mortar.

Are Predators sufficiently unique in application to justify themselves? Are they sufficiently nurgly in aesthetic?

You already own the model, so you have some options:
• Keep it as a predator, magnetize the gun options so you're not stuck with one loadout.
• Convert it into something else.
• Sell it for a loss.

42KB, 600x620px
Can someone explain to me why people say that biovores are good? They're 36 points for a 1/2 chance to have a 1/6 chance to do nothing, 2/3 chance to do 1 wound, 1/6 chance to do d3 wounds (average .5 wounds per shot). If you miss you can set up a spore mine, except you won't be able to do this against bubble wrapped units. Even if we assume you'll be able to set up the spore mine every and it ends up exploding on the target that still only brings up the average to 1 wound per shot. At one shot per turn, assuming all of the ideal conditions for setting up the spore mines, it's 36 points per wound, hardly the exemplar of efficiency.

Right, forgot that 2d3 can't get a 1. Either way, if you really need that 6 a 1d6 is going to leave you in better shape. You're not always looking for a unit to perform at it's average. Though now that I think of it, 2d3 is probably(?) even better when it comes to re-rolls because you can choose which die to re-roll.

A relative newcomer to 40k and mini painting here. Used to paint horrible looking minis when i was a kid. Had no access to internet or to any guides. Took a 10 year break from it and this time i want to do it properly.

What's the point of priming your minis? Is it necessary? I prefer painting my minis before assembling them so priming the bits feels like somewhat of a hassle.

It gives your subsequent paint something to 'stick' to so that it works.

Also depending on the colour, can add to the model. Painting over black or white primer can give differenteffects.

What is the best way to paint a DG Pallid Hand army??

I have tried a bunch of different option, basing with zandari then layering up to skull, getting a cheap zandari excuse for a base spray and basing them that way, and now i am on to trying shades.

Am i on the right path now or is there a obvious way i am missing?

You cannot stack two of the same buffs, if they are named differently but offer the same bonus then yes you can. For example two Apothecaries wont give you two rolls but IH tactic and Venerable dreadnought does give you two rolls to ignore a wound.

New to 8th edition, a bit confused on battleforged armies. Can I take any imperial unit in a detachment, or do I have to keep them in different ones. He has two weapon profiles. Sx2, Ap-4, D6 damage. Plague Weapon.

Second profile: S user, Ap-2, D1. Plague Weapon. Each attack is counted as 3.

So either 6/5/4 S16, Ap-4, D6 damage, rerolling 1s (Or everything with warlord trait)

Or 18/15/12 S8 attacks, Ap-2, 1 damage, rerolling 1s (or everything with warlord trait).

His pistol is Pistol 1, 18" range. S8 Ap-3, 3 damage. You pick a model and draw a line to it. Everything in the way you roll to hit with.

Finally he has phosphex grenades which is grenade 6" 2d6 S5 ap-1, 1 damage, plague weapon. So basically 2d6 heavy bolter with plague weapon, rerolling everything if he's your warlord.

He's basically very good at killing hordes and heavy stuff. He has tons of Aoe mortal wounds too, and a -1 toughness aura. He can also reroll 1s to hit as an aura too.

He's very good. He's only really weak against things with a high invuln save and high wounds. If he's facing terminators with 3++ he can just mortal wounds em to death. If he's facing Guilliman though, he has trouble.

this isn't funny, it's literally what both concepts are based on. In the 70s edgy hippies popularized the concept of free-form magical practices through fanzines, mostly through the concept of "chaos magick" involving collective psychic resonance.

The concept ended up finding its way into 2000 AD comics and then into Warhammer.

Then later on /x/. Meme magic is chaos energy and there's nothing surprising about that.

So there have been some fluff leaks from the codex. One of them has the Death Guard and Tyranids fighting over a world. The Tyranid biotoxins and Nurgle diseases mix and multiple so much that when the Hive Fleet tasted the planet it went NOPE and left the planet to the Death Guard.

Tyranids can adapt to Nurgle diseases, but the toxins and diseases probably infected the environment and made it so deadly, the Hive Mind would have to spend more biomass to update the immune system of all of its nids than it would gain from eating the planet.

Option two is much more reliable, aka better but option one as better AP and strength.
Even one point of ap is a huge deal.
Strength 8 means it wounds the average infantry toughness of 4 on a 2+ and and wounds the average vehicle toughness of 7 on a 3+.

Option two's ideal target would be used to target squads of multi-wound models of toughness 4-6 like ogryns, dark eldar boats, tyranid warriors, bikers and the like.
Option one is much more unreliable but has a bonus to getting through armour and much better vs things like vehicles so it's ideal target would be things like terminators, transports, characters and everything option two would like to target on top of that but worse at it.

I ask because on paper the Plagueburst crawler seems straight up better than the Predator.

Its only weakness is that its main battle cannon, can't fire within 12". But it is somewhat offset with it being able to fire outside LoS.

The other option we can compare the predator is the lascannons vs the meltas of the Plagueburst. Lascannon is 48", S9, Ap-3 D6. Plague Melta is 36", S8, Ap-4. D6. What would you choose?

In the end the difference between an autocannon+lascannons and battle cannon mortar+meltas is quite small... but the plagueburst comes in 30 points cheaper and has T8 as its hull. So like... what?

According to Tyranid fluff, consumption of a planet doesn't begin until day 51 of the invasion, and by that point, they aren't fighting anymore.

>Primary consumption of bio-mass begins (resistance has generally been eliminated by day 51). Brood ships land, releasing Ripper swarms, which consume all remaining organic material and depositing them at the reclamation pools. Capillary Towers (and the Brood ships) send the material into orbit.

IIRC, at Shadow Brink, the native defenders were already dead, and the Tyranids didn't recognize the Daemons as a threat until later, so by that point, they were at the threat phase.

As to the Death Guard example, once again from the Tyranids 4e codex:
>Day 13 Tyranids will have expanded to 700 km from the drop point; may begin infesting local water sources.

I know that you are samefagging, but this is just fucking dumb. Meta sucks compared to las because it is way worse against T8 and because its smaller range means that you actually have to move the unit, meaning that you suffer the Heavy penalty. This is why you see Las Havocs and you never see Melta Havocs.

This is especially true for shitty no-melta-rule melta.

As for your second weapon, it's literally Leman Russ canon, which sucks. You average 1.29 dead marines and 2.6 wounds against T7 3+ target. You have to roll four separate dice so it's super unreliable. And it has terrible synergy with your short range side guns.

>>55308069

Nurgle and Night lord have overlapping -Ld debuffs....

I am curious. Is the only reason for people buying the CE because the regular editions has a shitty cover???????
>>
>>55308810
That was my reason anyway.

Good of a reason as any.

Chaos is NPC as fuck.

I think the [superior] cover is a sleeve over the other one

meaning I can put my FW book and the regular codex in a single jacket

What >>55307521 said. Earth cats, already clever alpha-predators, instinctively know when to give up on the chase if they will expend more calories than they will gain from catching prey. They probably aren't even the only ones at that. The way to survive an out-of-control arms race is not to play.

I have to say...

I read this a few days ago and it was very well done.

For any DG or Nurgle fan out there, i whole hardily suggest this read..

The vocabulary on describing Nurgle's Garden
alone is well worth the 2-5 bucks..

>Night Lords have to be Chaos undivided

Nope, nothing in the crunch. Individual Warbands have different views of Chaos, some see it as abhorrent, others believe it to be a tool to be used, while some outright worship.

The Nurgle icon, 3 units within 6", with one being a Raptor unit is -5 to Ld. Take it down to -7 if you can kill something with a butcher cannon. Also Miasma of Pestilence works amazingly well with In Midnight Clad.

Would you recommend it as my next read?

Currently reading Blood Reaver. After I finish the third book of the Night Lords series I wanna get something else. Was thinking maybe Talon of Horus or The First Heretic. Maybe Dark Imperium? I'm collecting DG.

"Why didn't they eat this poop planet, if they're so strong!"

>>55307431
The only PC in 40K is THE IMPERIUM OF MAN. Chaos is just the most delusional NPC, since they're just an evil copy of the PCs.

VotLW is only fight phase so if you used it during shooting phase you we're cheating, just sayin'
>>
>>55309144
It is only 20 pages. Very quick read.

I would say pick it up and read it on a day when you dont want to invest in something to long and want variety from your usual read.

Colourful language and a fun, long awaited, interaction is what the short story contain.

As a DG player myself to another DG bro, mandatory reading...

VotLW is a shooting or fight phase stratagem. You're thinking of Death to the False Emperor.

Just sayin'
