I dunno. In some ways Dragons kinda felt like a pile of dragon cards rather than a coherent dragon deck. It is a precon, after all, but still.

So rules question:

I cast dualcaster mage and target rite of replication. I make a token of dualcaster mage with Inalla's eminence trigger. That token gains haste. I then copy the hasted token with the copied rite of replication.

Do my Inalla token copies have haste?
>>
>>55261660
30000? Even with Primal, Doubling, Parallell, and Anointed, that's like 2200ish tokens. Was it some infinite fuckery you just terminated at 30k, or was it specifically around that?
>>
>>55261988
No, the copies doesn't copy the haste
>>
>>55261964
The Cats precon is very good 1v1, but can't do as well in multiplayer. Conversely, Dragons can do well in multiplayer if it being multiplayer makes it so the game is slow enough for them to set up. Vampires do very well in both. Wizards has a lot of problems finding a wincon.

Altogether, Vampires are best positioned.

Because the token gains haste as a separate part of the ability, it doesn't become part of its copiable values. Compare Dack's Duplicate, which is worded in such a way that something copying it would also gain Haste and Dethrone.
>>
>>55261988
Inalla can't copy the rite if replication tokens (because it has to be a non token wizard) so you'll only be able to give haste to the 1 that was created by inalla from the original cast of dualcaster. If you have a spell that gives your creatures haste until end of turn that would be a good winning combo though, just constantly copy rite if replication for infinite tokens with haste. I like it.

My Trostani deck is more traditional, but I did decide on a unique twist to it. The deck focuses on making token copies of non-token creatures, using cards like Mimic Vat and Seance to get the ball rolling.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/trostani-and-her-clone-legion/

Pic related is my super secret tech card. I was really on the fence when adding it to my deck, but it quickly results in my opponents not being able to play creatures anymore to avoid me copying them, and when a player only has one or two really good creatures in play, it goes completely crazy. Also good with politics (Let me copy your Acidic Slime and I'll kill X)

After I saw Kess, Dissident Mage, I knew I had to make my first duel commander deck.

Now, I know almost nothing about duel commander, so I basically just threw every single low cost value card I could find in my collection into a pile and called it a day.

Currently said pile is around 130 cards (Already removed over 100 cards), and I need help removing more, or any suggestions for cards I may have missed that I should be running.

The reason these master sets are even remotely interesting is to reprint expensive eternal staples to reduce their price.

a vorel deck would definitely have experiment kraj on the list, and kraj actually ends up being a better commander for the deck.

i recommend looking at kraj lists or other decks that use vorel as a card rather than commander.

if you're intent on using vorel, just throw in good simic +1/+1 counter tribal stuff. it should be passable.

It's a marker.

THey dont put permanent change on cards without something to track it with.
With aura or equipment you have the card itself, in this case, the counter marks the creature turned to stone

>>
>>55263987
I think I've already got a good list of the more expensive/important cards (although I can't afford doubling season at the moment unfortunately).

The problem is I've never built a commander deck before and I'm very unsure of what to do with the rest of the deck that's not high-mana cost cards. In my casual deck I built around Vorel I just have a bunch of copies of the same low-cost creatures to get a ton of Evolve stacks off, but obviously I can't do that in EDH. What should I be looking to replace that strategy with?
>>

>>
>>55263997
Right, and that's good, that kind of identification is important for board and paper games; the point anon was making is just that the counter itself does nothing but signify initial petrification.
Losing the counter or having it moved to another creature does nothing to the now stoned creature

EDH is a format where you want to be doing the biggest thing the fastest. you're probably not ever going to win through straight knife fight beats. ramp hard, go big, and aim to deal 100+ damage in a single turn.

https://edhrec.com/commanders/vorel-of-the-hull-clade

use this site, it's pretty handy.
>>
>>55264327
Turn 1 ancestral vision is a pretty strong move, in a multiplayer game, you have to make sure that the other players doesn't think that you are a threat.

If you show that you can counter them, they will try to take you off the game before combo-ing, since they know the chances of going off with you on the game are low.

Sometimes I hold back with a strong hand, because I know that if I get an explosive start(and no one else does), the game will become archenemy until I am either dead, or too crippled to continue.

This is the case of "there are much better abilities that mairsil could be using".
>>
>>55264434
But you legit have to entomb or get an effect that makes Mairsil unremovable in order for him to be worth casting.

He costs too much mana if the first thing you exile with him ISN'T something that stops him from just getting removed.
>>
>>55264437
Maybe I'm retarded, but I genuinely don't see how removing two creatures a turn would be bad compared to other options.
>>
>>55264426
look for BIG things. stuff that scales well with long games and lots of mana. stuff like craterhoof behemoth.

you gotta be doing a lot of damage, because if you kill one person, the other two are going to see you as a threat and gang up on you. you gotta either be a hardcore survivalist or be explosive enough to take everyone out in one go.

>>
>>55264497

>>
>>55264532
this isn't a debate. i'm not gonna stop you from making your shitty deck.
>>
>>55264454
First of all, what you want to be removed needs to be vulnerable to "destroy" effects.
Secondly, you need something else that shields your Mairsil, or he is just going to die.
Third, you also need to make sure that your opponent is not going to target another of your creatures.
And lastly, you need a reason to run it over stuff that would combo and win the game for you.

There are so many hoops for it to work, that it isn't worth it. Diaochan is a bad card, putting it in Mairsil isn't going to do much better.

It would be pretty hard to know all the infinite/lethal combos, especially since there are multiple ways to start the same combo. It would be way easier if you knew what your playgroup uses and focus on that.

There's no sacrifice effect, and your opponent could choose another opponents creature, especially in commander.
>>
>>55264678

>>
>>55264561
Okay. Fine. Let me know what you are caging instead. Because that seems to be true for every single instance of Mairsil. Especially since your opponents won't target your dudes because Mairsil decks basically don't have dudes in play. And none of his combos win you the game.

I get that Diaochan is a bad card, but I think you're letting her performance by herself not see the bigger picture.

my roommates have a small collection of EDH decks, so I got to play against a bunch of different stuff. One of them has this insane locust god deck that she demolishes everyone with every time; there's also some 5-color dragon nonsense, a red goblin-y deck, and one really cool blue/white deck based off of making copies of everything.

When I played I used a dromoka deck that also just put a shitton of counters on everything. I had a ton of fun with it so that's kinda what I'm trying to accomplish with vorel.

>"casual, we're just hangin out"

Some people have some really interesting views on what is casual.
>>
>>55264723
nice. vorel can be pretty fun. definitely look for ways to repeatedly untap him, things like pemmin's aura. if you're doubling the counters on, say, triskelion 2-3 times per turn, that exponential growth is eventually gonna get to the point where you can easily one-shot the table.
>>
>>55264697
why are you so triggered that the social aspect of this format makes cards you don't like better?
>>
>>55264697
I'm not the person you've been replying to, but I could see it having value in the right deck. It's not optimal perhaps but it's an interesting way of removing threats and convincing players to target someone elses creatures instead of yours. You could also just give Mairsil shroud/bounce him etc. Which should be relatively easy in any deck running blue anyway. I personally only keep Mairsil to use nevs Disk over and over whenever people have a threatening board state desu

Clearly, you've accepted that bad cards are viable in Mairsil given the cards on EDHREC like Minion of Leshrac. But this is too far, after all, they'll kill Mairsil with it (even though as per EDHREC, 11 ways of stopping that and 5 ways of tutoring that completely void out that drawback).

I'm a little discouraged after putting some money into a b/w lifegain/drain deck(Karlov), my first real deck. It was only against 2 other opponents but I couldn't do shit to their 8/8+ trample creatures out by turn 6. Over 8 rounds I got 3rd in all of them.

Should I wait to play against a group with more people in it or should I expect to always lose against green?

ramp and draw your way through the early game.

they killed him the moment he came out. one guy only had big dragons and the other had big boys with trample. Biggest i got him was 14/14 but it didnt matter when he combo'd off and killed me with an 80/80 creature w/ trample.

>Draw/ramp engine
>Cast fatties, gib flying/infect/unblockable/horsemanship

>>
>>55265003
Post your decklist. If you can't do anything about that then something's gone wrong.
>>
>>55265057
if they can kill your creatures you can kill theirs. try to shift the focus of the deck from gaining life to making karlov as big as possible. cards that have a lot of little lifegain triggers like soul warden/soul's attendant are outstanding in karlov. you should also look into getting yourself lightning greaves, swiftfoot boots, and whispersilk cloak.

you're in black and white, so you've got some of the best removal in the entire game available to you, as well as most wrath effects to use as panic buttons if you fall behind on the board.
>>
>>55264899
Diaochan's drawback is being a 4 mana 1/1 with no protection. If she has shroud or regen, her drawback is null and she would be an amazing card. Much like how Minion wouldn't be trash if it weren't for literally everything but his activated ability.

Anyway, I'm not changing any hearts today. You were more evenhanded than the other guy, so I respect you and why you consider her to be a poor cage target.

Early game Karlov should be building up taxes for your opponents (Blind Obedience, Authority of the Consuls, Ghostly Prison, etc) while you build up your board and start getting your lifegain triggers out. Despite being only WB you probably shouldn't cast Karlov turn 2, wait until you have at least two ways of getting life regularly on the field.

This isn't the first time I've seen people shittin' on the archives.
I feel like it's extremely strong, but is it too much of a target, or is it also because of the draw backs of your opponents knowing you're gonna draw extra?
>>
>>55265261
there's not a whole lot of draw in the deck and it doesn't double your first draw in your draw step, so it doesn't do much in this deck.

doubling your lifegain is essentially worthless as lifegain in and of itself is not a win condition and doubling the amount doesn't make karlov get any bigger.

Ran newzuri tonight at EDH. Basically stock, swapped out some BS artifact for Sage of Hours, threw in a Misty and a Breeding Pool, and that's it. Shits dope. >>
>>55265334
a friend of mine built newzuri and he's just been having the worst time with it. the main problem of the deck is that if you're playing enough synergistic cards to keep getting experience counters you won't consistently have protection for ezuri once he's in play and vice versa.

either you cast ezuri and he dies before he does anything or you counter the kill spell headed his way but don't get any experience counters because you don't have enough cards in your hand.
>>

As someone who started out in EDH with the Blaxos deck and started building it as Karlov, have some pointers

OUT:
>Archangel of Thune (You're very rarely going wide in Karlov)
>Ajani's Mantra
>Aura of Silence
>Crypt Incursion
>Grotesque Mutation
>Day of Judgement (You don't need both this and Wrath)
>Skullclamp (You've got like two creatures that would die from this in there)
>Sunlance
>Sun Droplet
>Souls of the Faultless
>Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts
>Obzedat, Ghost Council

IN:

>Soul's Attendant (Complete the soul sisters)
>Sunbond
>Blood Baron of Vizkopa
>True Conviction
>Phyrexian Arena
>Exsanguinate
>Disciple of Bolas
>Merciless Eviction
>Loxodon Warhammer
>Ring of Xathrid/Thune
>Consuming Vapors
>Well of Lost Dreams
>Underworld Coinsmith
>Batwing Brume (Super secret tech)
>Retreat to Hagra (This shit is stupid if you drop it turn 3 and you've got a pretty solid land draw going)
>Westvale Abbey

Ignore shit like Ajani's Mantra where the only thing they do is gain you life. Cards like Sunlance/Doomblade/Lightning Bolt are babyshit in EDH, it's either destroy/exile effects or nothing.

Alhammaret's Archive is only really good if you've got a bunch of card draw lying around. Shit like Disciple of Bolas is great for this, and Phyrexian Arena is pretty much an auto-include in almost any black deck for me.

Exsanguinate is a great finisher, especially if you've got Sanguine Blood out.

what I see is that you dont have enough card draw and ramp, and too many cards that give you one instance of life gain instead of repeatable triggers.

imo definitely take out:

>serra avatar
just a big creature with no other effects. those are not good in edh

>souls of the faultless
just a one time chump blocker and a lifegain activation. not worth it for three mana imo

>teysa, envoy of ghosts
too expensive for what it does

>death grasp
the life gain doesn't compensate how inefficient this removal is

>sun droplet
seems very conditional

>obzedat
too slow

>ajani's pridemate
again, big creatures without any other effects dont do much in edh

>sunlance
very bad removal

>revoke existence
bad removal

>grotesque mutation
not worth it for a one time lifegain activation

>debt to the deathless
too expensive, exanguinate would be better

>alhammerret's archive
you barely have any card draw and the additional life gain isnt worht it imo, better change it

>skullclamp
you dont have token generation

>elixir of immortality
just one instance of lifegain isnt good and the other effect is irrelevant in your deck

add:
>phyrexian arena
>necropotence
>well of lost dreams
>mind's eye
>mentor of the meek
>suture priest
>souls attendant
>exsanguinate
>swords to plowshares
>anguished unmaking
>burnished hart
>any of the mana rocks until you have about 10: thran dynamo/gilded lotus/orzhov signet/orzhov keyrune/hedron archive/etc

also, look for equipment that gives karlov lifelink and evasion, like loxodon warhammer and others that give him protection like lightning greaves and whispersilk cloak

>Wizards has a lot of problems finding a wincon.
I can speak to this. Three friends and I have been playing using unaltered precons recently and I got Wizards because the game store was out of Dragons.
Some ways into a game, the Niv Mizzet I'd cheated out got exiled. A couple turns later, I was searching my deck for something and used the opportunity to try and find what I needed to win the game.
The only other thing is the big guy that bounces nonlands. Him and Niv, that's all you get outside of trying to organize some kind of beatdown or hoping someone's graveyard sticks around long enough to revive their things with Havengul Lich.
>>
>>55265653
it's boring, don't
>>
>>55265884
Most of what you said is on point, but
>too expensive, exanguinate would be better
Nigga, really?
Exsanguinate wins up to CMC5. They tie at CMC6, then Debt to the Deathless is always the better choice after that point and if you're casting Exsanguinate for 4 or less, you are either in a really bad way or doing something wrong.
>>
>>55265773
I have 5 EDH decks and I don't even play the game.
>>
>>55265916
hmm damn. who would be a more interesting "draw big boys, win" commander?
>>
How many Wastes do colorless decks run, assuming you're not on a turbo-budget
>>
>>55265966
if you wanna go temur you could try surrak.

if you're not married to blue xenagod is always a fun powerhouse.

animar is only boring because no matter what your intentions are it always just becomes that deck with all the infinite combos
>>
>>55265884
I disagree with Sun Droplet, "taking damage" isn't very conditional, and one instance of damage will keep you gaining life through several seperate triggers for Karlov.

Revoke Existence is good removal. Having enchantment exile is crucial to remove stuff like Erebos which just straight up hoses this deck. Return to Dust is better, but revoke is still really strong, and you can easily run both.

Debt to the Deathless becomes superior to Exsanguinate at 6 mana. Exsanguinate is pretty much NEVER better than Debt to the Deathless.
>>
>>55265975
i run three in karn just as targets for solemn simulacrum. they're not actually that great, and i'm thinking of cutting them completely because solemn is kinda bad compared to the other ramp in the deck.
>>
>>55265943
I think he's going for only BB needed to cast Exsanguinate unlike DtD that needs WWBB.
>>
>>55265943
yea for some reason I thought the card said target opponent, definitely way better than I thought.

I would also add to the post>>55265884
cliffhaven vampire seems really slow
crypt incursion is good only against certain decks
definitely take out chalice of life because its slow and you might not be able to use it the way you want it to at certain point
>>
>>55265984
Id rather have Anguished Unmaking than Revoke Existence. You could make a case for having both but he already has a bunch of target removal: Utter End, Vindicate, Return to Dust, and Mortify. I guess he could run it if his meta has a lot of indestructible artifacts or enchantments but Im not a fan desu

So is she just a combo enabler, or are there other fun things that I can do with her? And if she is combo enabler, what combos does black have outside the typical "Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond", and how do you make sure you can get combos to go without getting shut down/interrupted in Black?
>>
>>55266128
with sidisi and now razaketh she's kind of overshadowed as the monoblack combo commander, especially because your opponents get to go get their own combos as well.

she's probably alright if you're in a super blue-heavy meta where people tend to draw a lot of cards, but outside of that i'd just stick to using better commanders.
>>
>>55266128
>>55266159
for monoblack combos there's the one you listed, mindcrank + bloodchief ascension, mike and trike, or the classic "ad nauseam your whole deck" strategy

I fucking love being the king from the moment I bring out my commander
being the one to overcome a 1v3 is more fulfulling than being a part of the 3v1 gang up to get rid of one player

thankfully I found the group of players at the fnm who bring decks theyve put work and care into instead of the group of:
>kid who mashed X premade decks together
>gf of the ringleader who bought her a commander deck and doesnt know all of the basics yet
>ringleader who netdecks but has his crew of dipshits who wont play without him
>poor kid who borrows cards/decks or fills out his charity deck

swear every time a new player asks me to play I have to let a million different things slide and just refuse to use cards in order let him have some fun, every time I accept a game with someone newish I play my own game of "prevent my death for as long as possible untill I run out of shit and they finally kill me" instead of actually trying to win
>>
>>55266391
i'd rather be the guy with the white-bordered chromium deck that everyone ignores until it's too late
>>
>>55266219
game would end up me and him playing draw go together taking turns dealing with everyone elses threats till one of us takes the lead or makes a mistake
4 player control war is the most fun high level players can have

Thinking of building some sort of Prison EDH deck. What's a good place to start? Are there any strong EDH prisons competitively?

I was thinking something like teferi stasis chain veil combo. Teferi -1 to fuel stasis and a couple of mana artifacts, then lock people out of untapping and wear them out with like some mill spells or something. Alternatively, would some Zur the enchanter combo also work here?

As someone who has a Scion of the Ur-Dragon, their nothing alike.
>>
>>55266526
The Pkemon CCG already did it and it was one of the major selling points of their online game, if they do it a lot of people will get interested in magic online because of "free" stuff. You would still pay to get older cards though.
>>
>>55263905
A scion deck is pretty heavy on reanimator, the dragon precon is just a pile of big dudes for timmies but you can turn it into a pretty good deck by getting an omniscience and ways to tutor for it, a lot of ramp, card draw and a decent suite of removal.
>>
>>55265975
how do you guys not have a box full of wastes. I use them for proxies because I'm so sick of stumbling across them.
>>
>>55266471

>>
>>55264352
Hexproof says it can't be targeted by spells or abilities your opponents control. You know what is not a spell or ability your opponents control? Diaochan's ability.
>>
So, exactly how broken is the competitive ranking meter on Tapped Out? Nearly everything I've built is listed 100% competitive, and I doubt most of them could even stand up to a "75%" deck.
>>
>>55266776
100% borked
>>
>>55266786
I had a feeling when I built a deck around a Homelands legend for shits and it gave me 100%. Only thing that didn't get 100% was Nu-Kozilek EDH, which got 90%.
>>
>>55266471
Fire//Ice has a cmc of 4 when it's not in the stack.
For prisons, I would say that Stranglehold, Aven Mindcensor and Hushwing Gryff are good staples and as commander, I would use Numot or Zedruu.
Unless you are talking about different kind of prison.
>>
>>55266776

The only change I made to a deck that was "100% Casual" was to change the description from something like "Low powered Mayael deck" to "Mayael the Anima! Crush your enemies under the hooves, paws, and claws of your army of deadly creatures!" and it went to 100% Competitive.

So completely borked.
>>
>>55266867
>>55266631
>>55266471
Not specifically speaking about Isoscepter mind you, that's just an example. I just want to know if there's strong prison decks in commander, or what the basis of one would be. I figure you could also build some sort of Lantern control thing, using Lantern or Field of Dreams tutored by a Zur, and one of many mill artifacts. I did play a lantern game in a planechase round once, it was surprisingly effective.

>attacks and puts master of cruelties on the battlefield tapped and attacking
>opponent can't block

>>
>>55267489

>>
>>55264872
T-thanks /edhg/...
>>
>>55267536
Sorry as the head judge of /edhg/ I say the only course of action is you and your friend fuck each other silly, whoever submits first loses their right to play the deck.
>>
>>55267513
Master of Cruelties has First Strike, so he hits first, reduce the LP to 1, and then the other creatures without First Strikes hit
>>
>>55267561
I vote for this
>>
>>55267580
MoC doesn't assign combat damage at all if his ability resolves.
It triggers & resolves at the end of Declare Blockers step if there are no creatures blocking him. This happens before any combat damage is dealt.
Then first strike damage assignment occurs. MoC assigns none because his ability resolves, and any first-strikers then connect
Then normal-strike damage assignment occurs and yada, yada, yada
