I hope I posted this on the right place...

I used to toy with WHFB when I was younger, but recently I saw the Disciples of Tzeentch and I thought they were absolutely bitchin' and had to get back into the game.

Beyond the resources given could anybody give me some pointers on getting started specifically with the Disciples? I was hoping to run a horde/summoning army with emphasis on Pink, Blue and Brimstone horrors before incorporating other units.

Also, are there max unit sizes? As I'm hoping in the long run to base my unit size and army structure somewhat around the Roman Army. I know that could go into thousands and thousands and thousands of models, but I wouldn't mind bigger than life battles.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for asking.
>>
>> 55230883

Late reply to this guy, but I went to the GW shop in Winter Park once. Its just a long drive there through 408/I-4 traffic, and then having to get out of that shopping center. Wasn't sure what days they would be playing that they would accept a newbie coming up to just play a small game. When I went, it seemed like it was all tourney or pre-arranged campaign stuff
>>
>>55235928
Let's get the bad out of the way first: Summoning is shit.
Beyond that you can't really go wrong with Disciples, they have a excellent selection of units and heroes.
Their general playstyle favors mid- to short-ranged shooting supported by decent melee and powerful casting.
Be sure to grab the Disciples of Tzeentch battletome and the General'S Handbook 2017 from the OP; also, the warscroll builder (also in the OP) helps with assembling your force.
>>
>>55236058
What's wrong with summoning?
>>
>>55235502
GdaƄsk is a beautiful city overall, a bit confusing, just shame that we don't have any local hobby store and nearest is in Gdynia, otherwise I could play age of sigmar more often, now just have to limit myself to playing with brothers and sometimes going to Gdynia
>>
>>55235928

Start Collecting! Tzeentch Daemons is great value for money and you could create an okay 2k army using just those boxes. You've already said you want Pink Horrors, so if chariots, flamers and screamers are appealing to you I'd definitely get at least one.

The next obvious choice is the blue/brimstone horror box. Beyond that you have to ask yourself if you want to favour mortal or daemon units. Your puchases will depend heavily on that.
>>
>>55236058
Thank you for the advice friend!

>>55236162
I actually had planned on getting the Start Collecting! Tzeentch Daemons and buying a box of Blue Horrors & Brimstone Horrors, nice to see great minds think alike, heh.
I also have friends who might get into the game with me, and we were all going to go with a particular chaos god initially so we could have some interchanging between WhFB/AoS and 40K. Is the Start Collecting! Daemons of Khorne, Daemons of Nurgle, and Daemons of Slaanesh also strong for starting out?
>>
>>55236154
yeah, this seems to be a problem of many larger cities. ton of people that want to play, but no store play in, because the up keep of one costs too much and people only buy stuff second hand/online or recast.
>>
What have you guys got planned for Armies on Parade?
>>
>>55236331

Skipping it this year do to my current position in life, but next year it's a given. Still need to figure out what army i want to do as mentioned a couple of times already but if i don't see any interesting new armies by may/june next year i'll settle down on kharadron overlords army up in the clouds with some sky islands dotting the board.

>>
>>55236141
Everything. You have to pay for the summoned unit, the arrival isn't guaranteed, possibly calls a randomnumber of models, makes you waste a spell and you still need to set-up far from the opponent.
The only decent use out of summoning is getting past allegiance restrictions, but that's only relevant for a miniscule number of forces.
>>
>>55236406

Included it in the op and was tempted to call this the madman edition.
>>
>>55236239
The SC boxes for daemons are all pretty decent. None of them are incredible, but they work well and provide a good introduction into their respective forces.

I've got lots of different tips for the white parts, should I go base with Ceramine White and highlight with White Scar or base with Astral Grey and highlight with a brighter grey? And no idea what to use to layer the white parts.

You lay down a grey first. DONT go straight white.
So something like layer 1 = Grey, 2 = pallid wytch flesh or a light grey, 3 = white

Question: Alligance abilities can be taken in a path to glory game?
>>
>>55238048
No
>>
>>55238038
They're bloody good if you even glanced at their (free) statblocks. Tons of buffing, featuring a big bannerboi who was the inspiration/test model for the Primaris Ancient. Mortal Wounds everywhere, getting them from charging in an elite unit to even just making armour saves with one of the basic troop units. Even the Lord that comes in the cheap as chips starter set (which you can then sell/trade off the Sigmar half to recoup around 40% of the box value) has a chance to outright fucking KO anything that he's damaged in a given turn.

That's all fine and dandy, but isn't taking 16 of these guys just better in every situation?
(16 is just the equivalent, I'd take big units).

Note that these don't auto-heal but get resurrected MUCH easier (2+ instead of 5+) and their damage output is way higher!
32 attacks instead of 12 WITHOUT the bonus for being many

Is there an army you really want to start but you already have the main one or have not enough money/time to fuck with another army? Or maybe you don't even really need another army but you are feeling the temptation grow?

I really want to start the FEC army but I don't even like the models desu. Every time I'm in my LGS for some mtg or aos stuff I'm just staring at the FEC start collecting and l can't shake the overpowering feeling that I should buy it. I find these models terrible as fuck, sculpts are shitty and there is nearly no model variety but God help me - these ugly fuckers are haunting me. It's generally a neat unit. 280 desn't break the bank and it can vomit out a impressive number of shots, especially with the rerolls. Don't expect wonders, but it can reinforce a gunline pretty well and in a pinch can dive into melee to stall for other units.

Is there a way to play dwarfs without those big ships of their? like 2-3 squads of marines, 2-3 squads of mortars supported by characters and maybe a squad of ballon guys to capture objectives.
>>
Starting to get kind of pissed at my friend's Death army. Playing against it is a fucking chore and forces the most terrible tactics.

>lol my blood knights regenerate a model each turn haha so epic
>oh and also all of my models have 10 bravery

I am so salty about death. I've held off on going full warpfire thrower stormfiends and warp lightning cannon cheesefest but this is pushing me to the fucking limit.
>>
>>55242115
You are a mad man. Your best bet is charging with you mangler turn 1 and kill as much as you can.

Also try to get double turns, but it's unlikely given the amount of drops that you have.

And for the bad moon's love keep those magler more than 6" from each other. I've personally killed two of my warbosses with a dying one
>>
>>55242195
He paid 100 dollars for those blood knights, they better fucking give him a blow job while they are at it. Lay off him anon.
>>
>>55242140
Cool then!
I would probably buy it anyways just for the aesthetic, but knowing it's actually useful helps a lot
>>
>>55242195

Just talk with him and tell him you think the bloodknights are a little cheesy and that you'd like to play a game or two without him using them.

If he's unwilling to compromise so that both of you can have fun, then go full stormfiend cheese on him and wipe him off the table and wipe the smug grin off of his face.

Then proceed to take his models and beat them with a hammer
>>
>>55242293
The thing is without those bloodknights the undead kind of a suck.
>>
>>55242178
Okay, real talk: horrors have an easier time piling in (where ghouls are forced to deal with their shitty 1" weapons), can reroll all hit rolls as opposed to rerolling only 1s, have a better to-wound, heal a little, each reinforce effect restores a 4 wound model as opposed to a single wound and occasionally their damage rises to 3.
That's pretty good. Ghouls are a okay tarpit and can eventually do decent damage, but Horrors are there for killing shit.
>>
>>55242366

Well if he has to rely on a single unit to win him games, maybe he should play another army?

There's plenty of people that make Death armies work without Blood Knights, he doesn't really "NEED" them
>>
>>55242195
Blood Knights only heal wounds if they kill on that turn. Stop getting killed.

BKs are so expensive - in both terms - that asking him to not field them is like asking you to not bring your army at all.
>>
>>55242423

>blood knights only heal wounds if they kill on that turn

They heal a whole MODEL each hero phase mate, meaning they heal five wounds each turn.

>>
>>55242630
waac? what is that besides it somehow being gay. Because I am not, and as far as lists building and model buying goes. I have never met someone who bought models that were bad, it would be waste of money. So to be honest I don't really understand the supposed difference between tournament and non tournament lists, other then tournament lists being skewed to some local scenario pack being played, and non tournament lists being build out of the best stuff rules can make.

>>55242548
Why in the rule book I have it says you can take mortars? But if they don't work without the ships, then the army idea is dead.

>>55242641

>>
>>55242702

WAAC= win at all costs

It describes a player that uses overly-strong units and abilites in scenarios that don't call for it, in this example, casual play.

WAACfags are the 300lb sperglords that show up to casual MTG games with a multiple-tournament-winning deck just to beat everyone there. Fun doesn't matter to them, only winning does.

If your friend always has to use powerful units and abilities in a casual setting just so he can win repeatedly, then he is a WAAC-fag
>>
Please correct me if I'm mistaken - to build a Crypt Infernal Courtier I have to buy a Crypt Flayers box and actually sacrifice one model just to gain a hero but I will end up with two unusable models (a unit of crypt flayers has 3 models min)?

What the fuck were they thinking with the skryre allegiance abilities? They are all complete shit and don't contribute to anything worth the risks you take to get the small benefits of them.

The warpstone spark double damage effect only affecting ONE weapon from ONE model is completely worthless. Risking taking D6 mortal wounds to increase the damage of one attack is laughable.

>Deranged Inventor: You can re-roll failed hit rolls for friendly SKRYRE
WAR MACHINES that are within 6" of

Which only applies to the doomwheel. Do they seriously want you to run after your doomwheels with your general just to keep it in range for this piss-poor buff? The doomwheel has completely unreliable shooting and melee attacks. It is not made viable by allowing rerolls of hit rolls if it has D6 attacks to begin with. It's a HUGE gamble for a very minor benefit.

>battle trait gives skryre models 2 extra bravery for every 10 unit

Whoop-dee fucking doo, i'm sure happy that no fucking unit besides acolytes ever go in 10s or more. Why even include this battle trait if it's not going to give a benefit to the army at all? Allying in clanrats doesn't even fucking benefit the army because they don't have the skryre keyword. Meanwhile soulblight gets a 6+ invulnerable save and fyrelayer models get buffs of similar or even greater quality without taking any risks at all.

I thought the skryre gimmick was about potential devastation to the enemy or themselves, not devastating risks for absolutely no fucking gain. All of the skryre artifacts and command traits give similar buffs to the ones of other armies but at a mortal wound tax. Why is this?

It's evident that they want to funnel players into using underused weapon teams and the doomwheel, but why is skryre the only faction where you are funneled into playing with subpar units whereas other factions have buffs designed to apply to ALL units in a force?

>>
>>55243709
I think the abilities were designed with the addition of new models in mind. Deranged inventor doesn't work on lightning cannons, but would make sense for the general to sit back with artillery amd buff it. Same with the bravery buff, which only buffs acolytes, and barely. It would make more sense if new 10-20 rat infantry came into the mix.

I was reading the Darkling Coven abilities and got the same feeling, as the Sorceress is the only leader, but some of the abilities seem better suited for the squatted dreadlord, or another hero.

As for Sparks, I don't think the risk is too great. Double damage only benefits a handful of units, but again, if new artillery showed up, it would feel more fitting. Plus part of the skryre fun is blowing yourself up.
>>
>>55243864
What's a wet pallet? I feel like that can really help me
>>
>>55244022

So you know how when you put paint down and mix in your water, then it starts to dry up pretty fast? Well a wet palette stops that! It keeps moist from below and your paint stays the same moistness you leave it at... for days even if you air tight seal it!

I made this out of a cheap glad sandwhich container, some paper towel underneith to hold the water, and the key point is a piece of parchment paper on top (you buy this in rolls in the baking section).

Put paper towel into the bottom, parchment paper on top, add in water to make it all moist underneath. When you put your paint on top and mix in the water, it stays how you left it because the moisture below very slowly seeps up through the parchment paper and stops it from drying out
>>
>>55243310
He really doesn't. He looks like a fat ogre while the horrors look emaciated and haggard.
Also, a single butcher costs barely any less than a box of horrors (€31 vs. €37).
And, to be frank, you'll want two Haunter Courtiers anyway. And a Infernal Courtier is a solid warmachine/character hunter in his own right.

Alright guys, be honest with me.
Is anyone of you playing greenskinz unironically or know someone actually playing them? Not just as support units or """greenskinz army""" with 80% of bonesplitterz units - I mean real greenskinz on their own.
They seem to be as good as squatted at this point
>No battalion
>No allegiance abilities
>No battletome
>No AoS release since the start collecting box
>Just 3 heroes and 3 units
>No hero in skirmish
And don't hurr durr on me that there are plenty of other forgotten factions and noone is going to squat them. At the day 0 of AoS Greenskinz were a promising faction and they could be easily used as destruction posterboys. Plenty of models, a lot of post-Saltyhammer O&G players etc. etc. I know that GW wanted to make better money on brand new Ironjawz and I'm not gonna put a blame on them (I also find IJ look great tho) but greenskinz ended up as a posterboys of crippled armies. Skaven players are complaining about some clans being nerfed but no skaven player is implying that skaven are going to be squatted.
Death players could be worried but with the GHB17 3 of death armies got allegiance abilities and one of them has a battletome. The big death-related event is coming so ded dudes are getting more attention.

Oh, yeah, Ushoran, boss of the ghouls.
Throgg is news to me however. Source?
>>
>>55245343
A lot of skaven players were doomsaying like crazy when the handbook was leaked, like getting allegiance abilities was an affront to them personally.
>>
>>55245431
I was and noone was saying that verminus is squatted. People were mad because there is no point in playing mixed-clans anymore. Most of them actually believe that it is just a temporary nerf and the verminus battletome is coming. On the other hand greenskinz are actually moulder-tier or worse - you will at least pick a packmaster as ally to buff the stormfiends
>>
My brother and I had a discussion awhile ago on how to make greenskinz work and we both agreed they should be 80 per 10 and not 100. Well, at 40 boyz they're 80 points per 10. They're also battle line for destruction. You can easily take 120 boyz, ork idol, greenskinz warboss on boar or wyvern and then take 5 man brute squads to act as your hammers. I think people underestimate battleline troops with a rend and a rerollable armor save, which gets better with mystic shield.
>>
>>55245649
You'll want those boys in BIG units, so you need spears, which in turn means no Rend.
And even then you need to bring in shit from another, better subfaction to do the actual heavy lifting.
>>
>>55245741
I don't think spears would outdo the choppa in this case. Big units aren't always defaulted to spears. Freeguild spears are terrible because you can take Tanky swordsman or hammer-light halberdiers with the rend. Ork boyz are the happy medium with rend, good armor save with rerolls and your orks should have 2-3 attacks each with rerolling wound rolls with the banner. And yeah, relying on another unit to do the heavy lifting is classic hammer and anvil. With the new meta leaning on hordes, being able to rend the opposing battleline troops is quite beneficial. Just my opinion of course.
>>
>>55245259
the base should contrast.
so if your rats are mostly brown, not brown.
either do astrogranite or a lot of grass, you could do desert/sand, snow, etc.
not brown on brown though
>>
>>55245844
Attacking twice with ten guys that have Rend-1 or attacking twice with ~25 guys, I know what I'll pick.
And the main downfall of Freeguild spearmen is that they can't take shields, not that the spears are shit.
>>
>>55245926

Deranged Inventor and the + to bravery is pretty much wasted on skryre that is true though.
But I do like the Architect of Devastation (or what's it called) to buff my mortars. Shoot at a unit of 20 guys and use a spark to dial up the damage to 12 wounds. Delicious.

Only thing I'm not sure of is whether or not you have to use the spark before or after rolling for DX damage.

I'd say you double the characteristic listed under damage. Which is why in my opinion you can't use sparks on warp fire throwers/projectors.

I think the sparks are pretty cool, since it's quite versatile and suits the fluff of Skryre. The traits are a bit of a let down, with very narrow applications. Same goes for the artifacts although maybe those can be used on units?
>>
>>55251078
Why yes you double the characteristic. So no buff for flame throwers or cannons.
But the mortar deals D6 or 6 damage, depending on the size of the target unit.
And the question is whether or not I roll for the damage before I use the spark or after.
Rolling before seems more "fair" to your opponent, but if I wanted that I'd not be playing skryre anyway.
>>
>>55251110
I'd say after rolling. It doesn't say you have to do it at the start of the shooting phase or before rolling to hit. I'd always do it before rolling for damage if needed though.

So at the -determine damage step- or something like that? It was one of the things I hoped they'd already include in the FAQ

If a unit has multiple missile or melee weapons listed, does it mean you have access to all of them and must select one at the beginning of every combat phase like WHFB's "Armed to da Teef"? Or does it mean you have to select one at the beginning of every game?

>>
>>55252007
Thanks for the answer friend.
>>
>>55252030
Np, I just want to clarify that a model is only armed with the models available to on their summary blurb.

So if the blurb says "Can be armed with sword or spear", then for the whole battle they are armed with one or the other", if there's an "and" instead of "or", then you can attack with both all the time.
>>
>>55245979
>Can't take shields

Actually they can, its just that the models just don't physically accommodate that option.
>>
>>55252039
Ah, so the Herald of Tzeentch of Foot has the option using either the Ritual Dagger or Staff of Change at the start of every combat?
>>
>>55252109
You choose at the start of the entire battle which of the ritual dagger or staff of change to use, usually it's whatever you've modelled them with. They can't attack with the weapon they aren't armed with at any time in the battle.

If the blurb instead said:
> Herald of Tzeentch strikes out with a Staff of
Change AND Ritual Dagger

Then you could attack with both every combat phase.

It's very plain English, but that can be strange at times.
>>
>>55252135
Got ya got ya, thanks. Does that mean Black Orcs (Ardboys) no longer have Armed to da Teef?
>>

I to have decided to join the Bonezone. This is the list I have decided on for now.

Allegiance: Death

Leaders
Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade (120)
- General
- Trait: Master of the Black Arts
Wight King with Black Axe (120)
- Artefact: Tomb Blade

Battleline
30 x Skeleton Warriors (240)
- Ancient Spear & Shield
30 x Skeleton Warriors (240)
- Ancient Spear & Shield
10 x Grave Guard (160)
- Great Wight Blade
5 x Black Knights (120)

Total: 1000/1000

Reason for the lack of full sized units is that I couldn't fit two units of 40 skeletons without having to cut either a hero, or the Black Knights, and I need two units of Warriors as if I want access to the Death Allegiance abilities, I would be unable to use Black Knights and Grave Guard as battleline.

I was buying some paints alongside for my Sons of Horus, so I got myself Typhus Corrosion and Riza Rust, and a few other I needed for this and other stuff.

It's certainly not the most exciting thing, but it's ok

Better than anything I guess

About this...

Which are the best Age of Sigmar novels?

I've read some of the Horus Heresy ones, and I liked them so far
But I don't know where to start here

I like 'Stormcast', the scenes with the necromancer are the best I've read of any AoS novel.

- Lord of Undead
- City of Secrets
- Skaven Pestilens
Are all good. Auction of Blood is a neat little short story that gives a good view on how the mortal cities work, too.
I'm also reading Spear of Shadows right now and it's pretty good so far.
Grab them from the OP.

>tfw still no release of Nagash The Undying King
>>
>>55254087
What makes those three so good? I haven't read any of them.

>>55254099
>tfw

I've heard it's pretty good, lots of humans and noble Nurglites and such.
>>
>>55254121
Man I'm so glad that it's a Warhammer world exclusive novel, that way all us peons only have access to more and more Stormcast novels
>>
make a new general you lazy fucks or I'll have to do it and I don't feel like making it because itll be a picture of an Aelf and I know how much that'll trigger some of you.
>>

City of Sicrets was really our first look into how the average people in the mortal realms live. It's all about the nature of how cities work in the context of the realms, how humans from Azyr interact with those native to the other realms, how elves and dwarves fit into everything and how this all relates to the fact that Order is currently on the warpath.
Skaven Pestilens is just skaven being skaven, but in a good way. Sometimes that is enough.
Lord of Undeath is mostly about life (such as it is) in Shyish, Nagash's boatload of issues and Mannfred being a colossal fuck-up.
