Don't worry, after the scions i decided to start GSC to mix with scions and earthshaker spam, then after ordering most of the army and building 32 genestealers and a broodlord i switched to ordo malleus as my next army

Relictors anon from a couple of threads back here. I talked myself into picking up the Calth boxed set on the way home, models per $ it was just too good to pass up, though two space marine battleforces (the old one with a normal captain, 10 tacs and a regular dread) came close to swaying me.

I figure I'm going to mix in lots of MkVII heads with the armor to make a bit less Horus Heresyish; fluffwise I can rationalise it as after they went off the reservation the Relictors snagged a bunch of old/relic gear along with some locked down Daemon stuff to keep themselves in fighting shape. Plus the Dark Apostle model will make a great body for a Relictor Captain.

I'm thinking of mixing the squads together along with other bits and pieces I have to run Vet Squads with lots of combi weapons; presumably any Relictors that have survived this long are Vets after all, I doubt they're recruiting many new ones. With them, the Contemptor and the Terminators I should have a fun little Vanguard force.

Any recommendations on Contemptor/Cataphract Terminator/Vet Squad load outs?

What kind of British theme? Because there's a lot of ways you could go about that. Get an aegis line, convert them with pith helmets instead of sallets and hoods and go for the Zulu look, although there's already Guardsmen who do that better.

Alternatively, have a poke in the HH black books for "Albia", which is the the 30/40k equivalent of Britain, and use stuff from there. They have the usual English and Welsh names, "Power Gladius" blades you could give your Magi and apparently used to have Fallout-style dieselpunk proto-Marines and artillery crawlers, basically Dunecrawlers on some variant of tracks.
Personally I like that more than just nicking the flag and the stereotypical military tropes.

Well, plasma is the go to. I enjoy Company Vets with Storm Shields and special weapons, tanky. If you're doing just Sternguard though you're honestly best off sticking to all Special Issue Bolters. Look into some FW stuff maybe for support things. I really like Rapier Batteries and for a ravaged squad that goes after Relics, having some of those might make sense, as they require less manpower than Devestators.

They're better than you think, simply because they've got the range, plus they have the Sternguard specific Strategem. Warlord with the "increase AP by 1 when you roll a 6" is nice cus you use the strategem and it'll proc on 5 or 6, meaning fair chance for AP3 shots.

Either way, Company Vets with Storm Shields is actually pretty nice too, and shockingly cheap. Them with Storm Bolters puts out an impressive volume of fire and is fairly survivable.

A Marauder Destroyer will take him out in three turns of sustained fire, does 6.11 wounds with all the guns not factoring in a bombing run.

20 Fulgurites will take 12.24 wounds off him, not factoring in Lantern overwatch but factoring the MWound aura.

I think your maths on the fulgurites might be a little off.

Full blob of 20 charge with the melee Canticle active, take 2/3 of a wound from Plague Aura.

3.33 cut to 2.22 wounds from Hammer of Wrath.

38.66 attacks on average, hit 28/36 with 3+ R1 for 30.07 hits.

1/6 of those do D3 mortals for 10.02 mortals cut to 6.68 after DR.

1/6 of those wound normally, and 4++ cancels out average damage D2 so they only do 3.34 wounds.
Add 'em up for 12.24, or 6.33 per charging Priest.

One attack will on average do 0.216 wounds, so you'd need 83.31 attacks or 41.65 priests fighting straight up to kill him. The Mortal Wounds from Hammer of Wrath are pretty critical to their damage here, more so than against Guilliman or Magnus.

As for the Marauder, the problem will be keeping him from meleeing it to death handily Turn 2 since he almost certainly has FLY and it needs to move. He'll be a whole-army threat when deployed centre board, I need to pray he's on a flank and might not be able to charge before I get some teeth into him though Turn 2.

Taurox Primes can take Taurox Gatling Guns, which aren't the same.

That said, Taurox is flat out the better choice, with two autocannons for cheaper. Only thing comparable are some variant Chimeras, like the one with twin-linked hb in the turret, so you get three per vehicle, and even then its questionable.

I solve it by just taking Chimeras and mounting an autocannon in the hull and turret and counts-as Taurox.

Chaos Terminators, since they both dont have gimped movement and have access to the move-twice power. As loyalists? Not much, maybe some combiweapon anvils in a termicide list, but they're outshone by the other variants. Relic Sicarans would be FW, so those are out.

That said, you'd be better off going Slaaneshi DP with wings, talons, Elixir, and Diabolic Strength. Potentially also enough points to summon a Herald to get you the fight twice power Slaanesh has.

If he's AL, forego the rhino for Berzerkers and go one 20 man blob, back up with an apostle and, if possible, Exalted champ. Infiltrate all three, slam it into the enemy line turn 1.

Raven Guard benefit the most in a lot of ways, as Intercessors can rapid fire at 15, or you could give them Stalkers and pink for days. Also allows you to infiltrate Hellblasters where they should be.

Relic Predators with Plasma Annihilators look good alongside them too, thematically, with all the plasma. Aggressors are also pretty good with Raven Guard as you can infiltrate them, sit at their max range and just plink shit for days, and its hard to return fire, or give them the Incinerators and close in for it.

You can do some interesting stuff with White Scars and Inceptors but its sort of one trick. Ultramarines Aggressors are good too, but again, it's just the one.

I was going RG successor anyway, but the rules have come out and made me very happy for my choice.

Honestly, Raptors work the best. I run Black Guard which also fit, because if you're going Primaris you're not going Assault, really. All the Raven Guard successors work great with the tactics.

Honestly, the -1 to hit thing works BETTER for Raptors than it does Raven Guard, thematically, I think. Revilers are also good.

Pic is the chapter I use. Fits me more, as its all about getting into position and blasting shit with overwhelming firepower.

Then Raven Guard. Sounds very similar to my set up. Though I also use a Repulsor. Not sure about using a Redemptor with the dakka build vs Repulsor, because on one hand the Redemptor would get the -1 hit bonus but the Repulsor is more mobile and tanky.

Per Contemptors, Mortis ones are nice, and aren't Relic.

Storm Eagles problem is they can't haul Primaris, which sucks cus I love them but can't bring myself to use them for that reason. Fire Raptors are nice, but pricey.

Likely mortarion. With the Emperor's sword, Guilliman averages roughly 6.5 wounds on him, meaning it will take 3 rounds (or two with the attack twice strat), which isn't bad at all.

However, morty will probably have a Sx2 weapon, and I imagine it will have rerolls to wound as well, meaning he ends with about 1.6 wounds going through. The real question is then the damage, but assumably it can be put around 3.5 on average, so he'll do 5.6 wounds, which will kill Guilliman in two rounds.

So considering that mort will cost much more, G is really punching above his weight, since the tiniest of factors will let him win. The real solution is to grab three predators with a lieutenant and BREEEEM the shit out of mort, with no backup they do 10 damage

If you're running a Leviathan, make it shooty or making choppy, not both, I'd say. So either double up on storm arrays or give it a claw, cus it's really best doing one thing.

You'd probably better off running a normal Mortis if you're gonna go with Twin Autocannons. Cheaper and honestly more effective. Contemptor Mortis are best for the unique stuff they get, but otherwise not really worth the cost increase.

Potentially throw in a Land Speeder, that way you can use the Datalink Telemetry strategem and your Whirlwind thus will autohit. Could use a Land Speeder Storm for it.

You may have a personal preference that a player has an all painted army but that's all it is, a preference not a requirement. no problem, just remember that combat squads create 2 separate units, so they both get re-rolls. all characters get a re-roll as well, so you can always overcharge your plasma and get a re-roll. Its also every time they shoot or fight so it counts for overwatch. just remember that space marines are a somewhat expensive army, each unit needs to have a specific job and a way to do that job.
think about what other people will be running and how you can deal with those threats.
but of course run what you think is fun and how you want to play. salamander's are great at long range shooting (lascannons, missile launchers), but have trouble keeping distance against mobile hordes.

Looks like a tank/monster-hunter. You send this thing after hard targets, and don't send it after light infantry or even medium-heavy infantry unless there's a character you want dead, it doesn't have the shots or attacks to deal with that many models.

Give it an escort/bubblewrap to take on the soft targets while it focuses on the heavies.

Should have written more clearly; Sternguard as option A, Company Vets with Storm Bolters as option B.

Same points cost, but better AP and Range on the Sternguard vs more shots on the Company Vets. The latter just seems better, even with the Sternguard stratagem.

Depends on what you want them to do. Company Vets are for tanking and sitting, and are actually fairly cheap.

Sternguard are more for your trying to wither things down. Incidentally, as I mentioned in an earlier post, putting them next a warlord with the +1 AP on 6s for shooting is a very effective strat, as it'll trigger with 5s and 6s due to the strategem, which means you essentially turn them into off-brand Rubric Marines.

Except Smurfs have issues getting into position. I'd rather not charge too, to be honest. The reason RG ones are nasty is you can't shoot them easily (-1), the'll get into position instantly, and then just SIT there. You charge them, you get flamed and shot, you try to shoot them and they tank it, so on.

My one experience with the Plasma Incinerator had the other guy say it was always six shots, so it kinda decimated my Dunecrawler until I told it to shut up by firing 36 Kastelan shots into it.
As for rules, maybe a Plasma Deredeo if they're a thing in 40k? "Bigger Mortis Dread with plasma weapons" is pretty much exactly that.

well charging can keep you from getting shot off the table that turn. but yeah either way being able to leave combat and still shoot with flamers is brutal.
and the RG CT only comes into play at 12"+, enemies will close in by turn 3 unless you play against another shooty army. thats the only thing I don't like about that chapter.

and rhinos will get you where you need to go, same with a repulsor (which is worth every point, even if its not as good as a stormraven)

I run an entire army of these little guys and they create quite a few problems for my opponents every game.
on their turn 2 after they all come in and do horrific damage my opponent has so many targets on the board they never know where to concentrate fire either shoot at the 60 scoins, the ratlings, valkyries or the 4 tarux primes.
as a force they are one of the strongest stand alone.

planning on running them with the rapid fire gun, assuming the other ones are just better and I haven't noticed. the rest of the list is 2 captains, 2 lieutenants, 10 reivers, 3 min units of intercessors an apothecary and a chapter ancient.

My 1000 point list is 1 captain, 1 lt, 1 10 man intercessor, 1 boltstorm aggressor, 5 hellblasters, and a Repulsor. Thinking of tweaking it a bit. Mostly just add on intercessors, hellblasters, and aggressors as the list gets bigger.
