>Jank
I define jank as intentionally suboptimal combos or interaction that, in magical christmasland, can lead to winning the game.

My favorite jank interaction is Mirrorweave with control magic and cyclonic rift. It's not a very good combo, but I literally stole someone's creakwood liege and swung for exponential damage into an empty boardstate, and I've been obsessed with pulling it off ever since.

Aetherize is also jank, same with Aetherspouts, because while they're effective, they have a hilarious chance of backfiring.
>>
>>55154507
Pretty much what he said in my opinion. Shit that isnt optimal but tends to be more fun or wonderland.

My new favorite if from the last thread and its pestilence demon, nightshade peddler, and scythe of the wretched. Something about getting all three pieces together in my gitrog deck gives me a massive erection

>How do you feel about jank? What defines the term for you, and is there ever a call for it?
Jank is anything that implies you go out of your way to do something
EDH is a jank format and non-jank decks are poop

Mairsil has been difficult to make work for me.
It's always been difficult for me to purposely weaken my decks, so taking out things like Sage of hours and Tree of Perdition makes me feel like I'm limiting myself to "Durdle on the table for 3 hours before winning outright or slowly chocking to death" type games.
He can be a very strong all-purpose commander with some mean removal capabilities, but if you play him before he can cage some good protection, or if the entire table is hating on you, then he can be really difficult to get going and I have to rely on a shit ton of boardwipes to stall the game.

So stuff like the megaphase combo before the rules change would be jank, and I'd call "inalla + panharmonicon + flameshadow + etb wizard" to be sorta jank as it is magic christmasland best case scenario even if its what the deck wants to be.

Scarab God Anon here once again to ask advice.

I cut cards down in order to make it fit, and what got cut was Stax. I cut Stax and refocused the deck on UB Combo/Control. I still have plenty of removal and answers for keeping scarab god out, but don't really expect scarab god to stay out without Stax to slow the game.

Is there anything horribly wrong with the deck? Any advice? In particular I'm looking at the land base now.

Because those cards almost never fluctuate in price and you'd have to wait a very long time to get a significant return on your investment.
This way they can just buyout a couple dozen cards, sell them at ~twice the price for a quick buck then call it a day.
I mean look at Honor-Worn Saku, a whole TWENY CENT increase.
Literally double the price.

But you're missing the point.

Who wants this garbage? Worst comes to worst, someone pays half the price of the doubled cost, which is exactly what you paid for the original. Card shops are smart enough not to buy them in the first place, like with smuggler's copters when they were $20, because they actually play magic. It strikes me as fundamentally flawed.

That's not the likely endgame though. People that bought Honor Worn Shakus for $0.20 will be selling them for at least $2 when the price settles. People that paid $1 for Reki will be selling them for $5. People that paid $5 for Sisay will be selling them for $20.

They didn't double the price and then people are willing to pay half, they multiplied it by 10x and then paying 4x or 5x for it will seem reasonable at the end.

So I have a question. I have a maelstrom wanderer deck and just moved away from a playgroup that was always in an active arms race. My wanderer has 95% of the things you'd expect and I don't have the cash to get a new lower power deck and didn't move with anything but my rares. I went to a store to play commander on a casual night and felt bad immediately overpowering many new players. Is switching out maelstrom wanderer from commander and putting in Surrak adequate in adjusting the strength of the deck and (I feel like a lot of my get free stuff synergy is gone from this change) still making it playable enough as a temur good stuff deck or do you guys think I'll still be too much for newer players to keep up with? For a frame of reference I had a progenitor mimic on a kioras follower and the players I played with allowed me to get to ten kioras followers with double lands (I was trying my best to pull my punches with this happening) before anyone thought to deal with the stuff I was doing.

If you're buying pricey singles, you can get better deals on eBay. If you're buying bulk cheap cards, it's smarter to buy from something like TCGPlayer.

I buy from eBay all the time and I've only had a single thing actually go wrong, where the seller had some Paypal issue that prevented the payment from going through so they didn't ship the card. I didn't even end up losing the money for it, it basically just didn't happen.

Gawd is it a load of jank. I've only taken minotaurs I can justify on the thinnest ground and a few proxy minotaurs like Simaculum and Mimic, but I still only have 25. The history of magic is full of 2/3 minotaurs costing 3 mana, sometimes they have an extra downside. I have a Digeridoo, and some red chaos spells. What a pile of rubbish but it'll be fun.

That's only a partial win, since they can respond with instant-speed removal right after untapping. Definitely back-breaking, but not really going infinite.

You can still cause it to fizzle if its creature removal, as sac to ashnods and clone shenanigans as normal will cause killspell to fizzle, and taps the rest of their lands.

Really, ashnods is the vital piece for many of these combos, you want to take out inalla, combos, you kill the ashnods. Which is why I run thermopod as a backup

Time Spiral storage lands are budget, come in untapped, and actually can produce mana every turn. They don't serve the same function as a dual land for color fixing but they produce mana and when you don't have a way to spend mana it is a way to store it for later at a cost of 2-to-1.

In a control deck or any deck with a lot of instants these can have nice benefits. It takes the slot of a colorless utility land but provides some value especially to reactive decks.
Leave mana up to potentially counter a spell on your opponent's turn then if they don't cast a spell and end their turn you put a counter on a land. After a few turns you can use it to play a bomb or to play a bomb with mana open to counter. This was a play in control decks back in Time Spiral standards.

You will draw 10 cards on turn 3 assuming you dont draw any extra cards, and 1 out of 10 cards drawn afterwards will be a mana rock. So, my first draft of Mairsil was trash. I even got Cavern Harpy in opening hand and lost to Mirrari's Wake and White Sun's Zenith from the precon.

I need to set aside like twenty cards for wraths, spot removal and counterspells. And I need more selfmill. Caging from hand sucks dick.

So, for Grixis, besides Oblivion Stone and Nev Disk (required since they work with Mair), what other answers should I run? I'm thinking Toxic Deluge and Blasphemous. 4 wraths total might be a bit too low, but I'm not sure if more is a good idea. And I don't know where to start for spot and countermagic. Counterflux, Terminate and Chaos Warp doesn't seem like enough.

Also I looked up the relevant rule and it doesnt work sadly.

"607.2a If an object has an activated or triggered ability printed on it that instructs a player to exile one or more cards and an ability printed on it that refers either to “the exiled cards” or to cards “exiled with [this object],” these abilities are linked. The second ability refers only to cards in the exile zone that were put there as a result of an instruction to exile them in the first ability."

4 or 5 is ideal. 3 players is acceptable but will usually be 2v1. 6 is OK if you're willing to devote a day to the game, so usually not. 1v1 EDH is an abomination and if you go over 6 you will NOT finish in a satisfactory manner.

blood moon and contamination in black, start taxing at an angle that hurts them most i.e.no thrasios deck will try to combo out with salvagers and LED when you have harsh mentor out, and doomsdaying on curve is risky with wheels around.

You can also talk it over, my meta was super caught in power tripping race and we somewhat solved it by providing them alternatives, that while didn't completly suck, for casual play while having meet up specificly for going all out. There are some dumb bricks that won't switch decks at casual event unless they get at least one win with their main deck. There is also one who is thickheaded to the point of not understanding what casual means but will get pissy when you do something against him. Not to mention he has head in the clouds most of the time and sometimes does stupid shit like wanting to go back to certain point so he may react to it. ofc he gets btfo'ed with 'you missed the timing, deal with it'.

Also be creative yourself, bring something new, talk about it nudge nudge wink wink that you can have fun even with something like mono red
>>

Because people took one of the most fun, laidback formats and tried to make it competitive.
