Would the druchii be better if they were interested in developing and expanding Naggaroth and were more racial supremicists who felts that ends justified means rather than being outright evil? With an ever-shifting high court of princes fencing for dominance and trying to off rivals? With Morathi still around and still a Slaaneshi, but not in control, and Malekith dead and buried?
>>

>and were more racial supremacists who felt the ends justify the means rather than being outright evil

But that's kind of what the High Elves do. The Dark Elves do it as well, but they've taken it to the extreme that all other races are there to either serve them or just get trampled for their amusement.

>Total War: Warhammer 2, unnamed hack'n'slash genre Warhammer vidya, Man'o'war: Corsair, Vermintide

Think we'll ever get a proper solo or party-based RPG set in the warhammer world, in the style of Gotrek and Felix or the like?

>>55111784
No. The Dark Elves are plenty cool enough as they are. Their utter backstabbing, looting, pillaging, slave-taking, blood-sacrificing murderfuckfest is so extreme that it's actually the best group of villains in the game. Only Skaven come close otherwise.

>>55109927
Agreed. Plus they naturally become insular, closed-off communities. General threads, like any threads, thrive on new traffic.
>>
>>55112228
I kinda wish Malekith was dead. His monomaniacal focus on Ulthuan and refusal to actually take Naggaroth completely got tiresome.

I feel like if we were going to get an RPG, we would have at least heard about it by now. I'd hate for someone to go 'we're gonna make a cool Warhammer game' and pump it out in a year with little depth or detail.

>>55112378
To be fair, did they ever need to take Naggaroth completely? It's kind of a shitty place, and for reasons I don't fully understand they hate carving out new territory anyway. And most of the setting works under the assumption that borders have barely, if at all, changed in the thousands of years since they were established. It's only the idea that they're constantly getting smashed and barely keeping themselves together that keeps it believable, and even then only just.
>>
>>55112526
I remain convinced that the reason the High Elves numbers are declining (I say 'are' because I refuse to acknowledge the End Times), is because Asuryan cursed the Elves, or told the other gods not to help them any longer, after Malekith's sacrilege of thinking himself worthy of the fires. If the Witch King is ever destroyed, then the High Elves should see a resurgence in their fortunes... Or maybe it'd take wiping the Dark Elves out entirely. Who knows?
>>
>>55112526
>for reasons I don't fully understand they hate carving out new territory anyway

Malekith refuses to acknowledge he'll never rule Ulthuan and won't treat Naggaroth as permanent, so he refuses to create new noble houses, either.

The nobles, being greedy dicks, see no reason to protest this, and almost none of them ever spend the massive resources to establish a new settlement (which would get sabotaged anyway).

I prefer the Dark Elves to the Dark Eldar, mostly because the Dark Eldar only make sense (barely) in 40k's rule of cool universe.

The Dark Elves have the flayed skin and blood, but that's a side-hobby - part of what makes them feared by others, along with their cool monsters. There seems to be at least a facade of depth to their society, and you can treat them as an army and state instead of just as a pile of pirates.

The Dark Eldar base everything they do around being as 110% edgy as possible - grinding up slaves and snorting them off of each other's spike-covered asses while fucking over everyone else (unless it's funny to save them), and being so backstabby and unfocused that they'll probably only raid planets that even the Night Lords feel are too easy for them. It's not just part of the gameplan for them, it's literally how they survive, being fuckers with absolutely nothing redeeming or tragic about them, and with no game plan beyond 'fuck the universe with a spike-covered dildo.' Malekith and Morathi at least feel like they have depth, wheras Vect and whoever he argues with are just...kinda there. They're manipulative, but they seem real distant from most of what goes on with the DE. Though I'll admit their xenos conscripts are pretty cool, the mad-science vibe they can have is interesting, and they make a good break from Chaos.

I think High Elves were cursed the moment Bel Shanaar cheated the flames with magical protection. Sure, Malekith failed the test, but at least he went in without cheating.
Then the next phoenix kings continued to cheat and high elves have been declining ever since. No one was worthy to be King because they were never tested properly.
Killing Malekith would solve nothing. There needs to be a high elf with enough balls to brave the flames.

Bel Shanaar being protected by mages and priests is before 8th edition and ET.

>Besides, the High Elves enjoyed peace, prosperity and increased numbers under Bel Shanarr; their misfortunes only started after Malekith's BBQ.

They became degenerates and pleasure cults were rising all over Ulthuan and colonies. Bel Shanaar was powerless to stop the decline.
Malekith stopped it temporarily, but he fucked up when he didn't execute his mother so they came back.
>>
>>55117238
>You say that as though the flames couldn't shred those spells like babby's first cantrip if the phoenix king were truly unworthy

Then why cast the spells at all? Aenarion just jumped into the flames like a maniac.
What were they afraid of if they were so certain Asuryan would bless Bel Shanaar? It doesn't add up.

I do enjoy the idea that none of the Phoenix Kings have met with Azunyan's approval, and that Malekith might even have been an intended successor who was having his evil literally burned out of him, but the idea that he's STILL chosen is gay.
>>
>>55117276
My theory is that Bel Shanaar wasn't Aenarion-levels of awesome, but Asuryan didn't give enough of a fuck to incinerate him and was all, "Eh. Whatever, you'll do. It's not like there's demons running around anymore. You's a bitch for not doing it raw though, so no godly superpowers for you."

Meanwhile when Mama's Boy jumped in, Asuryan was all, "Oh-ho-HO no you don't! You just slaughtered like, a hundred nobles within my temple and you're clearly a complete motherfucker, literally! You extra crispy now, bitch!"
>>
>>55117341
The problem with Bel Shanaar and later phoenix kings is that they were chosen by other princes, not Asuryan.
If they really wanted to be 100% legit, every candidate should've passed through the flames without magical protection and let Asuryan sort them out.
They were all pussies.
The first council should've said: "Okay, Bel Shanaar and Malekith will pass through the flames. The one who survives will be king."
Problem solved.

>>
>>55117391
The problem here they feared Malekith going into the flame and didn't want him to because that would force them to accept him as king. They rejected Malekith because they thought that they would bring more war and bloodshed as he and his mother desired to sail North and end the Chaotic threat once and for all. They desired peace and so the timid Bel Shanaar was chosen.

Later in the End Times content it was revealed that the Chaos Gods whispered into the minds of the council members and fed their fears of Malekith because the Chaos Gods knew that if Malekith became the king then he was going to end what his father and Caledor started. He would remove Chaos's foothold in the world and banish them forever from the world. But Chaos is not only mighty, it's cunning as well. They made sure the Elves slit their own throats by rejecting Malekith.

The what, sorry? I didn't quite catch that. Did you mean, "Something that never fucking happened?"

Besides, why is this an issue? Malekith does a great job as the evilest and coolest villain to stalk the Warhammer world!
>Manfred? Another vampire. Yawn.
>Archaon? Too played up. He's all hype with very little actual achievement behind him.
>Grimgor? Big, brutish, has an 'uge choppa, is a li'll bit kunnin. Is there anything else original about him?
>Great-mighty Grey Seer Thanquol? ...Okay, he gets a pass just for being so hilariously inept.

Meanwhile, have you SEEN the Dark Elves trailer?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB6FaGBz0Lo

Malekith is straight-up Darth Vader here! Like, I am 100% certain the animator saw that scene at the end of Rogue One and went, "Fuck yes, I have GOT to make Malekith that badass!" The Witch-King makes an excellent villain; the setting would be objectively weaker without him being the most utterly evil, over-the-top, bastardly, despicable evil overlord ever created.
>>
What a waste of quads.
>>
>>55117777
While I feel like this is bait, Malekith definitely is the best of the ow-the-edge villains, mostly owing to having a way more interesting past, a hot mom, and a more varied faction to command. It's too bad character development was banned until the ET rush job and retcons to support AoS.

That wasn't my intention..? I mean yeah, the other villains work; they do their job just fine. I just feel that Malekith fills the 'evil overlord' role better than the others fill their roles of 'dread vampire', 'big, brutish force of destruction', 'chosen of the gods of evil', etc. Again, Thanquol gets a pass for going above and beyond the call of duty and becoming a Saturday morning cartoon villain, which is just so perfectly Skaven, it's almost enough to make me want to play them... Almost.

How do we know that magical protection is cheating? It's only set up as being such in End Times, where it's directly said 'Malekith was supposed to be the Pheonix King all along.'

What frustrates me is that it would be easy for there to be a rule like 'oh you're supposed to be unprotected going into the flame.' But no, the only indicator that it might be so is that Aenerion did it, and the only reason he didn't use protection is that he was desperate enough to try and sacrifice himself, right? But the Pheonix Kings weren't trying to sacrifice themselves, they just wanted Asuryan's favor.

In 6th ed Lizardmen Armies, how are Skink Skirmishers best used?

I managed to get my hands on an all-classic models army and now have 35 Skinks with shorts (gonna just count them as blowpipes I guess).
>>
>>55119981

>>
>>55120013

Depends on the army and composition. You aren't going to win spamming clanrats or your equivalent and bringing 200 guys to the fight, you need a hammer for your anvil.
>>
>>55120835
>You aren't going to win spamming clanrats or your equivalent
Occasionally rats or skinks can make a total horde army work. Goblins too, though less consistently.

>200 guys
They can get a lot more than 200.
>>
>>55120933
Any elite unit will give hordes of cheap infantry a difficult time, especially with a character to challenge any character in the horde. The real threat are hordes of middling infantry.

And how many guys you can get obviously depends on points.

He's from very early in the setting. Back then Chaos wasn't as mary sue. People didn't try to kill him because it just wasn't doable, and it only snapped him out of his malaises. He does magic through raw will.

He's in a weird pseudo canon state, frequently referenced, even his castle was placed on a map. In modern lore he would have been insanely strong - his first great works involved defying death before the polar gates had been constructed, let alone collapsed.

Story behind it:
Delven outpost near Lustria made to supply human slaves for delven operations at Grey Rock Point.
Onyx walls surround it to prevent magic scrying and hide from lizardmen.
Slann tectonic fuckery "accidentally" wrecked the place.
Slave revolt happens and everyone dies, either from ass kicking, lack of food or simply being crushed.
Lots of time passes.
Some of more scholarly von Carsteins start to dig into connections between delves and necromancy, cus of Nagash.
Two brothers eventually stumble on information about an outpost, hoping to expand power.
They go in, find out that it wasn't magic controlling slaves here, but simple attuned rod and collars.
One of them got pissy and impaled the other brother with Blood Drinker, immobilizing him.
Lots of time for contemplation happens.
PC's arrive.

Today I got my ass handed to me by a Dark Elves player in a 2500p match vs. my WoC in 8th ed. The game basically came down to who could get to, and roll up the other ones left flank first which he managed to accomplish by a neat combination of directed artillery fire and a well placed Kharibyss charge followed up by having a dragon-riding Malektith swooping in.

I'm therefore wondering if anyone have any good pointers, or know of a link with some, that could help enhance my tactical gameplay vs Dark Elves. I'm not looking to utterly trash my opponent but rather having the competence to know what fights to pick and which ones to avoid aswell as knowing how I should direct the units in my army. Are there any standard do's and don't's that I should be aware of?

They got a fan translation for Total Warhammer going now, though its only up to ver 0.5.

>>55096303
You can find various lets plays on niconico for non-Japanese games by just searching for the English title (especially if its a game reliant on fan translations)
Japan has has popular style of lets play where instead of some guy talking while making silly faces at a webcam, you instead have some avatar (typically an anime girl) talking with text-to-speech software.
Here is one example:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm26109396

The guy has also made a story line for his lets play.
Basically these two anime girls are mysteriously sent back in time to the period of Total War: Attila.
One of them is really worried while the other gets into it and becomes the leader of a Saxon tribe.
Sample dialog
>Purple anime girl: As punishment for resisting me I order you to kill all the men and rape all the women!
>Blond anime girl: What?! You can't give an order like that!
>Random Saxon soldier: Yeah, let's rape the men too!

Also one with similar concept for Total Warhammer lets play

How do I play as a greenskin in WFRP?
>>
>>55128632
You play a Goblin in a team of Orcs, and you lead without letting them know.
>>
>>55128684
But are there rules for playing as a greenskin race in WFRP v2?
>>
>>55116478
It plays basically the same as World of Dungeons.

HP is determined after every rest by rolling all your stamina die choosing the highest number of dice rolled equal to your level. So if you have 5 stamina at level 3, you roll 5 dice and keep the 3 highest.

Max HP with +3 CON, Rugged, Level 10, Healer/Bed will be 11D6 floored to your level, or 10D6, so an expected value of 35hp. Most of the monster damage in Dungeon World are too low for this, but by level 10, you should have a good idea on how much damage you should hand out to keep it interesting.

MC/DM/GM/whatever never rolls, only the players. An enemy will attack as part of a Hard Move, i.e. when a PC rolls a 6-.
>>
>>55128768
No.

There's a Polish fan supplement but as far as I know it hasn't been translated yet.

Really it would be easy for a sufficiently dedicated DM to create racial rules for them. The hardest part would be grokking that most careers are inaccessible and many talents and skills not applicable, and also creating proper lores of magic for them.
>>
>>55128560
3e requires a bunch of cards that are no longer available, along with special dice. It's also less lethal and higher powered in general.

Basically the discord - or any chat, really - provides just about everything the general does in terms of asking questions and general conversation, only without anonymity. You can't leave a post for hours, but conversation is quick and cheap. So there's no real reason to go back to the general, especially when the anons there become part of a vague 'other' compared to the named individuals you grow chummy with in a chat. Even if you don't outright feel superior to general folks, you don't feel a need to interact with them much anymore.

So not only does a discord leech off of a general to get its members, but it slowly strangles a general by depriving it of posters - it's a parasitic relationship that will slow or kill a general. And comparatively, discords are fast, so you'll burn through most discussions rather quickly that could keep a general going for days, and then become like most internet groups: more concerned with drama or 'off-topic' stuff to fill the time than whatever they were originally formed to discuss.

I noticed from Cubicle 7's forum posts that they're still running with a D100 system. Did any designer ever figure out how to deal with starting WS of <40 and not have combat drag out forever?

Even if I ditch interesting for realistic, I feel like a pit fighter should probably do better than hitting less than half the time with a aimed swing at an average guy.

>>55130874
>All out attack

I read what you're saying, but let's say you've got WS 35. I vaguely remember that was a rough starting value for a combat career. Against a slow moving guy, no dodge skill, all out attack hits 55% of the time. So a slow fat peasant, not even dodging, and you still miss him roughly 1/2 the time? That feels like some Dungeon World horse shit.

You're right that they nailed the get-fucked damage potential though.
>>
>>55130990
Well, I would like to consider myself a relatively average guy in terms of swinging a weapon around, and I'll tell you right now that trying to hack at someone with a hatchet is surprisingly hard when they KNOW you're trying to hack at them. Even an average person is going to have the common sense to back up or try to not get hit.
>>
>>55131038
Wouldn't that count as dodging though? Even if the big fat (untrained) peasant is going All Out Attack as well, fucking rock-em-sock-em robot style on the PC pit fighter, PC still only has 55% to hit. And this is a PC who used to murder guys down in the Imperial fighting pits for his daily bread.

It's an impressive mod overall and it's worth playing. The models look good and they've managed to include almost every faction and unit. That's actually why I want to make a conversion for Genesys. I think the Narrative Dice System is great, but a lot of the ameritrash accessory overload in WHFRP 3e was a bit too much for me. Since Genesys is down to just the dice and fate tokens, I figure the Magic system is the most important part to convert, since the basic parts will probably be built into the fantasy setting materials.

'You succeed with a cost' exists for this very reason. As long as the designers don't go with straight binary results, this should be fine. Hopefully it's not as ham fisted as fumble look up tables or PbtA's habit of making your life miserable 50% of every die roll. Something like the glitch die in Shadowrun would work.

First of all, you don't have to take charges to the face. Flee as a charge reaction, and its extremely unlikely that they'll catch you unless they're cab charging at close range. Second, the math required to tell you who'll win a combat on average is simple multiplication, you can use it to make sure you only get into combats where the odds are in your favor.

Something I'd add in personally: don't forget to account for unit points totals. If your 100 point unit of basic bitches with pointy sticks causes his 1000+ point death star to overrun off the table amd be out of action for two turns while you focus on wiping the other half of his army, it's still a good trade.

Nah. They could make hellpit a boss encounter or level focus easily. Plus they could get creative and make new things up as well, like a broodmother or something. Imagine going into some skaven warrens and having to fight through birthing pits. Eugh.

Greenskins and Beastmen qualify under this description.

>>
>>55135901
Agreed. And I think Vermintide honestly has a stronger cast than either.

I'm wondering if they'll do an 'evil' cast one. Druchii witch elf or corsair, Chaos sorcerer, Norscan berserker, vampire or a wight...
>>
>>55135921
I'm completely uninterested in vs., honestly, which basically ruined L4D.

You ever think that death is a natural part of life, and the lizardmen, who stick to the plan with everything, probably wouldn't try to cheat death?

Humans are kind of fucked up in WFB, because they're the only ones that really get tempted by Chaos in any meaningful degree, and they're the only ones to fuck with the boundary between life and death. It's like all other races have a 'life is okay and I can accept it' button built in that humans don't have at all.

Tomb Kings and Araby are considered the most likely for DLC, both are in the campaign maps prominently. There's confirmed to be a DLC in the works that will be about the Empire in relation to the New World, so I can see Kislev becoming part of that.

Total War 3 will probably cover the east and have Ogres and Chaos Dwarfs. I can see Daemons as DLC to finish off all the main playable factions. Will CA go full absolute madmen and show us some eastern powers like Cathay, Ind, and Nippon? I doubt it but who knows.

atm, the only CONFIRMED DLC in the works by CA is Luthor Huss, Thanquol & Boneripper, and a Clan Skyre pack that has Ikit Claw, Ratling Guns, and Jezzails.

As far as I'm aware, there are such things as Witch Hunters that are religious in origin rather than secular - as in, not part of the large order that's been tied to the state by Magnus the Pious.

How would these guys operate? More warlike and active priests? Like a copy of the average Witch Hunter? I imagine they'd be more prevalent outside of the Empire, especially in the Southern Realms and Bretonnia.

What >>55135889 said. Also just adding some more randomness and variety in enemies would make things more interesting, along with more gear, characters, "Boss" encounters at the end of some missions instead of just cutting chains and fighting waves could be interesting. It's not like there's no ways of improving on the first game.

Mostly I'm just happy to get another game where you get a street level view of the Old World. Whenever I ran the 40k RPGs I'd always tell players unfamiliar with the universe to look at screencaps from Space Marine to get an idea of how the setting looks and I'd do the same thing with Vermintide whenever I run WFRP.

Yeah the Clan Skyre one will probably be a versus like the King and the Warlord, I can see them doing The Prophet of Sotek. That would add the Skink Prophet on the Trogladon, the Ripperdactlyes and a couple other dinos.
The High Elves and Dark Elves will probably have a versus too, probably Hellebron versus the EverQueen.
This stuff is easy enough to guess but the next stuff is more full of speculation.
A campaign featuring Eltharion the Grim versus Grom the Paunch would be nice to see.
As for Races Tomb Kings and Araby seem to be confirmed for good, however CA recently said that all DLC factions will have 4 Legendary Lords, so this brings up the problem of what is to be done with Araby as while the Tomb Kings can easily field 4 LL (Possibly even Arkhan the Black as a sub-faction) Araby unfortunately never had many flushed out characters.
In terms of other factions we could get the Vampire coast seems very likely with Luthor Harkon as its leader. However what the second one is up for debate, the most likely is possibly a Southern Realms/Dogs of War faction that would add the various Regiements of Renown into the game. Apart from them and on the much lower level of likelihood is the Amazons in Lustria and the Hung in the Chaos waste.
Also to be expected is the various flc lords that will be added on as the games life cycle continues, characters like Malus Dark Blade and Grey Seer Thanquel are sure to make it in.
>>
>>55144454
A warrior priest would maybe conflict with Victor when it comes to niche.

I always thought a Trollslayer might work well. With some kind of grudgeborn fury meter perhaps, like Sienna's magic.
A Bretonnian Questing Knight with an outrageous french accent would fit really well too, considering the setting is so close to Bretonnia. The challenge is making the mechanics different enough to Marcus and Bardin to warrant it.
Although if you really wanted to mix things up, a Ratcatcher with a small but vicious dog, mancatcher, sling, traps and such would be interestingly different.

That would be cool but it's waaaay outside the powerlevel of the rest of the cast. In WFRP terms I'm guessing everybody is well into their third careers to be taking on packs of Skaven like that.

A Slayer would be a good pick for something that would fit the playstyle well and is different enough from the existing cast to be easy to work in though. I'd honestly be pretty surprised if that doesn't end up happening if there ends up being new characters in Vermintide 2.
>>
>>55144733
There is no way they won't have new characters in Vermintide 2. The question is whether the old cast returns or their attributes are chopped up and distributed to the new characters.
>>
>>55144804
I guess it's implied that the main cast eventually dies if you play the Last Stand maps. I don't have the dwarf map DLC so I don't know how much of the game is considered canon.

I hope they keep the old cast and introduce some new ones instead of just getting a new batch like L4D2.

So I'm not sure if anyone cares, but I found some (somewhat) cheap methods to display warhammer armies for limited space environments. These are sold in bed, bath and beyond, and walmart, and are stackable. They're actually upside Refridgerator bins. But you can place your mini's inside, then stack another on top of it. Protects against dust and damage, and they're acryllic so they're sturdy and nice and see thru. About 12 bucks each bin, but you probably only need 3 or 4 at most. Just make sure you get the same sizes so they stack up right.
>>
>>55145262
I'll post a few pics so you can see them. Well worth the money, if you're planning on displaying your army, don't have a ton of room, and don't want to buy an entire display cabinet like the Detolf from Ikea. These fit nice on a dresser.

Many don't know that Realms of Sorcery states is that many, maybe most, witch hunters are just licensed by the cult of Sigmar and are not members of the order of the silver hammer. They just have to prove they know what chaos looks like and that they aren't mutants and they can get a license. This leads to a huge variety of personalities. Hired witch hunters have a writ from the church that allows them to go anywhere on a noble's estate and beyond if it means finding chaos. The only check they have on that power is that the hiring noble is accountable for the witch hunter; if he burns a village and finds nothing then reparations are on the noble.

Most other witch hunters are from other gods, even rhya and manaan have witch hutners. About them, we know almost nothing.
