It's getting pretty fucking gross in the mortal realms.
>>
To the dude asking about Ogres in the last thread: They are a brutal and punishing force if you can get them into melee. Ironguts will utterly crush almost everything they touch and if you have a Butcher backing them up they become real nasty pieces of work.
>>
I'm an idiot an a newbie so please riddle mi this.
If I pick a unit of orruks with a pair of choppas are they making 2 attacks rather than 1 or it has to be distinctly and unequivocally stated on the unit warscroll that they have more attacks?
English is not my first language so please forgive me this stupid question
>>
>>55010073
it gives them rerolls if they get a 1 to hit. no double attack.
>>
>>55010050
Cool Blightkings, are they yours Anon?
>>
>>55010073
Usually they will have a rule stating if they take a pair they get a benefit of some kind. In this case, they get to re roll hit rolls of 1

>>55010110
no, it's from a golden demon winner. They're featured in a white dwarf that I can't remember.

Is it worth the points to include artillery (WLC as ally, or plagueclaw against hoards) in a 1000 point pestilens army?
>>
>>55010148
Just remember, if something they are equipped with doesn't have a special profile, it will have special rules on the warscroll
>>
>>55003158
I haven't written a proper narrative for my current focus (Death) just yet, but the summary is.

>Once a kingdom that was stuck in the middle of a war between Chaos worshippers and orruks
>Fought to the last man trying to stop the destruction
>Prayed to Sigmar for aid, but none was sent
>The vast majority of the kingdom's population were massacred for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
>The court wizard studied necromancy in secret and raised the dead to guard what remained of the kingdom.
>At the request of the prince and the few remaining people of the kingdom, the Necromancer reached out to the powers of Death.
>Neferata answered, giving the offer of serving her in exchange for immortality and the power to enact revenge.
>The survivors agreed, being turned into vampires.
>They continued to raise the dead of their kingdom, even after the Chaos worshippers and orruks had long left.
>Driven by a desire to avenge their old kingdom, they build a new one and turn it against the forces of Chaos and Destruction for ruining their home, and Order for ignoring their please in their time of need.

They're going to be my army for a Path to Glory campaign starting this weekend, so hopefully I'll get some fun stories out of that.
>>
>>55010196
Sounds like a solid background for a Death army. Looking forward to any tales you'll tell in the future.

>>

Plagueclaw for hoards, yes. they can devistate 10+ units, preferably with poor saves.

WLC for heroes, but i've never used one, probably not so good in a small game

My God, this is the ugliest model I ever bought. Don't get me wrong, I like goofy and hideous models - that's why I also bought the orc boyz kits - but these skellies are just terrible. GW truly has come a long way with its models since 2005 I see
>>
>>55011002
You can buy two of those and can't go wrong.

Dryads are a good battleline, that you want to take in units of 20 or 30, and you will be using Treelord Ancients/Treelords a lot. Your average 2000 point army will have 2 or 3 giant trees.

The only part you will waste by buying two of those is the extra Branchwych, and I suppose you could use that for conversion fodder if you so desire.
>>
So I'm thinking about getting my goat on and diving into Beastmen. This is what I've come up with:

Great Bray Shaman (General, Scion of the Dark Gods)
Great Bray Shaman
Beastlord (Herdstone Axe)
2x30 Gors
40 Ungor Raiders
30 Bestigors
2x3 Bullgors (Great Axes)
240 Summoning (Balewind Vortex & Jabberslythe)
>>
>>55011578
Tell me, did you decide to go with Beastmen because of GHB17? I'm asking because 3 players in my LGS decided to start new armies and 2 of them are Beastmen and 1 is Wanderers and we have a new guy starting with nighthaunts. I'm quite suprised how adding the allegiance abilities makes minor factions not only playable but nearly sought-after
>>
Are these "Pitched Battle Profiles" in the Genderal's Handbook the point costs for the units or is this like, pre-made armies?
>>
>>55011998
You mean the points tables? There is no other point cost in aos beside unit cost, battalion cost and terrain cost (only some kinds of terrains cost points). You don't have to pay for weapons, spells etc. So these huge tables are just point values you have to pay for fielding units
>>

This is what I mean. Does this mean it costs the same to have 10 gors as it does to have 30 gors?

Also, in AoS... are there no longer "army types"? Like, can I pick ANY units from Chaos, ANY units from Order? Do I have to stick to all Chaos, all Order, or can you mix? To what level can you mix?
>>
>>55011834
Don't know about that anon, but the allegiance abilities have lit a fire under my ass to complete projects I have been buying slowly because I thought they were cool, and are now seeing some support. I've had boxes of pestigors and a beastlord chilling in the closet for years (which I bought because faction was cool/sculpts were awesome), but am now actively scooping boxes of gors, ungors, etc. to flesh them out

> three models listed for Fimirach

REEEEEEE etc, etc...
>>
>>55012156
The only thing you have are Battlelines.. you can go with any of the four Factions, chaos, order, death and destruction, but you can't mix destruction and death for example
>>
>>55012156
It's the cost of every 10 gors. So 10 gors is 80, 20 gors is 160, 30 gors is 240.
>>
>>55012156
You pay 80 points for 10 gors and 80 more points for every 10 more gors so you can end up with a unit of max 30 gors that costs 240 points.
>are there no longer "army types"? Like, can I pick ANY units from Chaos, ANY units from Order?
Yeah, you can pick any Chaos units for your chaos army but you will get more bonuses and stuff if you stick with some keywords. Let's say you want to build a daemons army. Sure you can take khorne, tzeentch and nurgle stuff but there will be nearly no synergy. If you stick with a KHORNE DAEMONS keyword you will get more abilities to use etc.
>To what level can you mix?
As long as you fulfill the minimum number of battleline units it's fine. You can mix 4 clans in your 1000pts skaven army as long as you can also field at least 2 battleline units
>>
>>55012190
yeah why the FUCK don't they just release the Dirach? we have seen the sculpt, and it is all we need to make a viable list. I just imagine those FW tards sitting around prioritizing releases, noting that the fucking fimir warriors/noble just sit there, when people like me are holding off buying more because it seems like we'll never get a fucking HQ (I do realize they probably have exponentially more profitable shit to release, like yet more fucking skull robots for admech and whatever gold fuckers for custodes/SoS)
>>
>>55012244

Is that max 30 gors in the entire army or just that one unit?
>>
>>55012306
that unit
>>
>>55012170
>>55012137
That's what I thought desu. It's heart-warming that everything it's needed to make most of the mini-factions playable is just slapping some fluffy allegiance abilities into GHB. On the other hand we all know that GW will not do it often and that's sad as fuck

No problem, read the rules and feel free to ask. I'm playing for two years and I'm still learning something new every day
>>55012393
I'm playing mainly casual games but not gonna lie - the hobby is so much more rewarding if you feel that your dudes will get some update or a new model in future. I'm a skaven player so I can not complain about them but I also started working on greenskinz (I took the discount bait) and at this point they are even more deader than such factions as Nighthaunt or Slaanesh - this fucker was in exile since the AoS launch and somehow his dudes have more GW love than greenskinz. I know that IJ and BS are orruk posterboyz now but c'mon - a battalion or abilities for greenskinz will not hurt anyone
>>
>>55009910
Hey guys, Skaven player here. I want to make up some movement trays but not sure if I should worry about making it a skirmish tray or a regular one. The bottom line is I want to be able to make smart formations out of my unit but don't want to make it so big (to include potential formations such as spearhead and line) that it's ridiculous in size. Anyone have a similar problem and/or can offer insight?

You want to make a lot of weird shit while pile-in with your rats so better go with something like this
>>
>>55012244
I thought the idea with the points discount was that you only received it if you opt to go with the MAX
Example: Zombies are 60 for each increment of 10 but if you field a 60 model unit you only have to pay 320 as opposed to 360 saving you 40 points.

Is this not how it is?
>>
>>55012367

I'm not gonna fool myself into thinking finishing the Fimir line will ever be a priority, but I've been wanting the damn Balefiend since the stats for it came out with Storm of Magic six years ago. I know it takes a while for model lines to be completed, but then the fucks teased a mostly finished model that was only missing a hand and some finishing touches two years ago and haven't even mentioned it since. I get that they want to focus on what is making money, and I'm not even going to pretend that the Balefiend model will make the Fimir line any more profitable than it is, but this is literally the only thing preventing me from beginning to collect the fuckers.

Is the whole Beastclaw Raider thing quintessential to Ogres? Because if that's the case, I'd rather just ally in the units I like as Ogre mercenaries in a different army.
>>
>>55013730
Not at all - gutbusters and etc are a viable way to play. You won't win any tournaments or anything but they have shooting and staying power, and more numbers than beastclaw
>>

What annoys me about this is that there isn't anything spectacular about killing a Stormcast since they always come back. It's retarded. It makes any tension just a non issue. Yeah I know that they lose a bit of their soul on each reforging but so far other than becoming literal robots that keep fighting, there hasn't been any negative downside to that shown so these guys are just boring and don't have faults.
>>
>>55014796
>there isn't anything spectacular about killing a Stormcast since they always come back

They can only come back if a Lord-Relictor is able to catch their souls. Without a Lord-Relictor, they're just as vulnerable to death as anyone else.

>>55014856
But we haven't seen just how risky that is. Maybe when Nagash/Death finally has some releases we can see that he's fucking up Stormcast hardcore. Right now however they are just too annoying with how seemingly undefeatable they are in any scenario, even WHEN dying.
>>
>>55014815
Except you know, the actual battle. Each SCE death risks losing the battle, which does matter. Those battle can be over cities of innocents, realmgates, stopping a chaos horde, etc. It's not like when they die, they immediately come back. It takes time AND a finite amount of resources to bring them back. Sigmar won't be able to keep up the refogings forever. They are not like daemons.

The SCE have an attitude in battle that is not what you think. It's not like when they die they treat it as respawning in a video game. Because losing that battle is a big deal. They care for every mortal they fight for.
>>
>>55013031
They literally only did that because GW held a gun to their head and forced them too. Forge World is a disorganized rabble of chuckle fucks who are almost pathetically incapable of getting their shit together.

>>
>>55015816
I love 8th edition. I absolutely adore it. Everyone else treats it like the devil and it bothers me to no end. It's an edition where my Posessed and CSM termis aren't absolute garbage! Summoning isn't cheesy and so I like it because previously I hated summoning with all my heart, because free units angered me. It just wasn't fair or fun. 8th fixes all my problems, but no one will play it so might as well start over in Sigmar since Fantasy's dead, which killed my interest in the skeleton dudes because apparently that one cool Khorne general turned skeleton general isn't in AoS anymore and apparently was a huge jobber, which saddens me.

>Wounds don't spill over

It's a balance issue, due to the large number of high-danage weapons.

A lascannon being able to kill d6 models a turn would be ridiculous. A battle cannon would kill d6d3 models. Powerfists would be better than lighting claws at killing hordes.

Non-spilling over wounds allows anti-tank weapons to specialize in anti-tank without overshawdowing the anti-infantry weapons.

>The Lake of Solitude

Many tales have been told of this foreboding Lake. Tales of strange Creatures with only one eye, with some accounts of them being shrouded by mist. None of the residents in the area can recount when the Lake appeared, though it was seemingly overnight.

The inhabitants of Liten used to use the Lake as a means of sustenance until the waters of that foul Lake tainted the minds of those whom drank the murky water. Those whose minds were shattered by the waters found themselves in an ever-lasting lust, never again satisfied by the things they once loved most.

Some say on particularly dark nights, one can see the men of the village dragging their women off towards the lake, as an offer to whatever cyclopian beasts reside there.

Two starmaces in a squad of 5 retributors, or 1? 2D3 mortal wounds sounds good, but if you take 4 hammers (including champion), and boost it with lord celestant's command ability, your hammers spark on 5+ now, so it's roughly 3 hits on 5+ from 9 attacks, resulting in 6 mortal wounds, which is better.

Disagree

Starsouls can be useful on Protectors. The main feature of Protectors is reducing enemy shooting rolls by 1. Their glaives do mediocre damage, even against monsters, and starsouls help mitigate that by turning them into an actual threat. I always run 2 Starsouls with Protectors in my Aetherstrike lists.

Decimators are a great tool for fighting hordes of 20+ model units but you don't always fight such large units. Bringing 1-2 Starsouls in Decimators gives them some utility when not in ideal situations, and is probably better for an all-around tournament list. If you bring Decimators expecting to play against hordes but end up against beastclaw then you'll be upset you didn't bring Starsoul maces.

On Retributors the starsoul maces are generally better because they are more reliable. However, if you have a +1 hit buff the regular maces tend to do very well. If you have a Lord-Celestant as your general and you can consistently get in range of his command ability then you should consider taking the regular maces instead.

Holy shit yes, pretty much all the boxes for AoS are massive bargains because GW seem to be trying real hard to pull people into it after the weak release and negative feedback from the End Times.
>>
>>55022499
>Buy this box for 200PLN
>Sell square bases for 40
>Sell aelves part for 90

>>
Do we know the price for the Blightwars box yet?
>>
>>55022499
Also note that SoD aelves army is not really good but with new allies rules you can pick some better units without breaking the swifthawk agents allegiance. Still, they are fun to play with and against them - they are great for hit-and-run playstyle
>>
Did anyone see the Sylvaneth vs Seraphon game on WarhammerTV this week?

Any idea what the lists/results were?
>>
>>55022530
can they be used in AoS?

Also, I have some models from Wood elves, goblins, dwarfs, some chaos and Tomb kings from WHFB 7e when I played, most special units where stolen but I still have some driads, wood elves archers, goblin pikemen,a couple goblins champions, normal dwarfs and tons of skeleton archers, pikemen, cavalry and cars, also a couple of slanesh deamons (I belive 10 demonettes and 1 mounted on horror) and some human chaos knights. Are square bases ok to use? can I salvage some of these models from 2005?

I also got this pimping limited edition italian chaos wizard riding on a tzeench disk called Stregone del caos.
>>

You've got me curious now. Elaborate.

That's an interesting way of describing space marine helmets and shoulderpads.
>>
>>55022761
yes, its an old metal seeker model, I didn't remember the name, and the story about the stole goods is not that grate, I worked on a shop where I left my minis as exposition pieces, had to stop going to work for a week, next time I went the shop was no more and my models were gone, the owner doesn't answer the phone and I lost a unit of black orks, an ogre mercenary with cathay longsword, a tomb kings scorpion, several units of goblins and dwarfs, 1 dwarf girocopter, 3 dwarf cannons, 1 troll unit, and several characters from both factions. I believe They also took a wood elves dragon and some scenery. That happened like 6 years ago.

Yes, most people don't care. There's a forced meme on /aosg/ that square bases are the devil incarnate, but in actuality there's very little gameplay difference, if any at all.
>>
>>55023132
>there's very little gameplay difference, if any at all
It is, if you are playing with a horde army like skaven. Try to run 80 clanrats on 20mm squares instead of 25mm rounds and you will see it
>>
>>55021328
So is the battleshock immunity bubble and the counter-charge/shoot ability worth having to choose between a Hurricanum or artillery.
>>
>>55023155
if you ran them on 25mm squares instead of 20mm it wouldn't be much different than rounds

but since 1" is 25mm, running 20mm squares allows your second rank to attack when they otherwise would be out of range. If your legacy army had it, fine, but to buy new models and put them on squares is modeling for advantage
>>
>>55023194
Yeah, this. I'm fine with veterans and their old armies on squares but what's the point of using squares for new army? Most new aos stuff comes with round bases tho
>>
are there any rules for AoS mordheim like games?

I can see what you mean, but I strongly disagree on basically all accounts, especially on the Decimator side. If Decimators engage anything worth using a Starsoul Mace on the situation is already fucked and even with the maces they'll not make it out of that situation in any reasonable shape.
As for Protectors, if you run them solo I can see where you're coming from, but I nearly always have them behind some other unit in a way that makes use of their 3" glaives, where the mace is strictly worthless.
As for Retributors, their Lightning Hammers only really pull even in terms of mortal wounds when you have Vandus and a Lord-Celestant butt them with their command abilities, which is a fairly enormous investment.

so, I'm trying to understand the rules, is there no limit to warscrolls I can take? how can two armies be balanced between them?
>>
>>55023959
units cost points. each person makes an army with the same points total. Points for units are found in the general's handbook.
>>
>>55023959
In the basic rules (open play), there's no real limit, but if your opponent puts down a certain amount more models than you then you get some extra rules for victory.

In matched play, it's more limited and balanced. Pick up the General's Handbook for the extra rules involved there (see link in OP to download it).
>>
>>55023602
If you can get 5 decimators against a horde in every round of combat then you shouldnt bring Starsouls... but if you play real games in a tournament setting you'll see that's almost never the case. Decimators will always get stuck fighting something else.

If you have the ability to use choose equipment before the game starts then it's not even an issue, but most tournaments require stating equipment when you submit your list.

Especially for Protectors... glaives suck. Starsouls are a straight upgrade. The only time I would run 5 glaives is in a hammerstrike/celestial vindicators list with a lord celestant nearby to give them +1 to hit.
>>
>>55024060
>>55023602
I think what both of you are missing is the fact that nobody ever brings Decimators or Protectors. They're both shit.

Just picked up King Vlagorescu's Ghoulish Host. How do I make it competitive? Do I build it as the box suggests? What do I add to it?
>>
>>55024095
Neither are shit

Decimators are the best anti-horde tool available for stormcast, and they should see a lot of play in the new meta

Protectors are a lynchpin in Aetherstrike and Celestial Vindicators, which are the two best lists right now.
>>
>>55024095

I take protectors all the time, the -1 to hit fucks over the Raptor and Skyfire mortal wound BS

The 3" reach of glaives means that they get a ton of attacks, and Starsouls are always good.

Retributors are too limited, a -1 to hit renders them useless and the 1" reach of their hammers means you're often never even getting them to attack. They're also more expensive.

Decimators are too situational to be reliable.

Protectors are the best paladins by far.
>>
>>55024176
If you dont have a +1 hit buff and some way to drop them into play then you should not be bringing Retributors

Protectors have really poor damage, but their -1 hit debuff is insanely good. It gets even better when you have two lines of Protectors with artillery units like Longstrikes behind them.

Thanks, does the general's handbook rules affect skirmish or those are their own rules? Because I seem to miss if they state you can only pick a limited number of warscrolls.
>>
>>55024095
I actually prefer Protectors over Retributors. I can hide them behind Liberators that are under the effect of Warding Lantern and Stalwart Defender to protect the gunline behind them and to stab over them. A 3+ and -1 to hit blunts ranged damage and melee troops will have a tough time chewing through the 2+ rerollable Liberators to get to them, especially with the glaives and crossbows shredding the enemy.
If I wanted Retributors, I might as well shell out for Concussors, who are better at that job.

That's kind of a weird answer. You yourself say that you use up to 80 of them... Either he buys 56 and is capped at that, or he buys 100 and can offload the extras he doesn't use.

Or hoard them in a box somewhere like the rest of us.

What, English not good enough for you?
More seriously, the GHBII will only come out this Saturday, so no chance on that. For the old GHB and Skirmish you'll probably have better chances with an actual Spanish forum or something.
I mean, I am German and I just use the english stuff for convenience's sake.

Jesus, remember playing Pokemon Blau on my GBC as a kid Schläsinger here. My kindergarten pals were sometimes pretty irritated while talking about pokemon with me - I didn't know most of the english mon's names and friends had no idea what the fuck is the glutexo I'm talking about

But they are, ya big silly. The corruptor on its own may not be as good as the other verminlords, but the real strength of pestilens comes from all the buffs and debuffs:

-Icon of pestilence
>roll a d6 whenever a monk dies. On a 6 the killer takes a mortal wound
-frenzied assault
>monks get an extra attack on the charge (3 attacks with rerolled hits if double blades)
-wither
>add 1 to wound rolls against target unit
-rabid fever
>if monk from target unit is killed, it piles in and attacks first
-bless with filth
>rerolled wound rolls for a friendly unit
-Gouge tear their eyes!
>add one to attacks characteristic of target unit.

You can stack this shit anon.
