looks pretty sweet, but the hand/khopesh combination on the left looks a little off alignment-wise. can you either move the blade up to be more in line with the pose of the hand or vice versa?

Had to have a go at a skeleton plague bearer. I think it'll just do the one though as it's way too much work for a lesser daemon. Happy with it though. And I've got 40 plague bearers currently half assembled that I'm going to batch paint...

>>54973157
Looks good.
>>
I'm currently building Primaris from the starter set and I don't want to glue the guns so I can paint all the details in the middle of the model before the gun blocks them. what's a good way to prime and paint the guns so that I'm not holding them with my fingers as I do it? would it be good to just super glue them to skewers or something where paint won't go?
>>
>>54973585
Just superglue them to a stick and prime them.

Does anyone have any pdfs of decal sheets? I'm having the hardest time tracking anything down that is ready made

Is there a third party bit or cheap, convenient way to replicate the old stormtrooper backpacks underneath the blanket roll?

most places that do IG bits do at least one or two different backpacks.

If you want those specifically you could make a mold of the ones you have and cast some more though.
>>
>>54973570
I like the two headed one and the colour scheme of the one on the far left.
>>
>>54973825
Leviathans are the best dread and I'll strongly disagree with anyone who says otherwise.
I like the colour and the weathering is nice, heavy but not overdone.
I don't like the way the spikes, bone or red look at the moment but that looks easy enough to fix.
The whole head setup looks a bit off to me, I'm not opposed to the zombie head but I think it'd have looked nicer if it was actually embedded more naturally rather than just plonked on, same with whatever that thing above his head is.
>>
>>54973157

I never thought I'd see myself shilling a GW product but these are really good for the money and well worth having in your bits box. You get four sprues totalling 340 skulls. Human, orc, genestealer, various daemons (the plaguebearer ones are particularly cool looking); they're all in there.

I've bought my share of third party ones in the past and while they've been good, they've usually been resin and you don't get much for your money. It isn't very often that GW make something thats genuine value for money, so definitely pick up a box of these if you see them.

Your model looks pretty sweet senpai.

First Praetorian Guard done, came to the realization that somewhat realistic proportions for the face barely show up on the model, probably going to extrude it before printing the next attempt.

As I didn't get any suggestions last thread I asked, any opinions on other parts I really should try and replace? Planning on using Cadian torsos and legs, but I'm still on the fence regarding arms and weapons.

Not the same anon, but I'd say the freehand looks very, well, freshly painted on. Maybe if you could use some weathering or desaturate the colours, it might help. Or adding a background of a priming-layer, made not to cover the whole banner, but to look crudely painted on. Either of these should be bothersome but doable without redoing the freehand. entirely

Is it better to highlight, then wash, or wash, then highlight?

I'm working on a Scythed Hierodule, my biggest model yet. My Tyranids' scheme has the skin has a dark grey, which I usually do with a layer of Eschin Grey, and then Dawnstone, then wash with Nulin Oil. However, I wanna pick out some more details for the big guy, so I'm gonna do some highlighting with Administratum Grey. Should I do it before the Nulin Oil, or afterwards?

3 down 2 to go.

I'm happy with how these guys look but I'm also starting to find them wearing the same undercoated armor a bit boring. I figured I would try and sculpt some decal for the sergeants and captains but I am not sure what items Lamenters would put on their armors. >>
>>54980998

If you've already glued probably let it dry and scrape. moisture is a catalyst for super glue so unless you flood it I doubt its going to help.

>>54980998
Let it dry and try and scrape it off with a file or a hobby knife. Another idea is to take any large globs of dried glue and make it seem like welded metal.

How do the Secret Weapon Miniatures washes hold up vs GW's in the 'skill in a bottle' department?
>>

I've only used a couple of the colors, but I like them - they straddle the midpoint between a wash and a glaze, and they dry pretty glossy. I use "baby poop" and "red black" for basing a lot

looks pretty solid, but I think the purple could be toned down a little bit. I'm trying to remember seeing that effect in real life and I remember it being more blueish. Like in pic related, I remember there being a stronger blue followed by a thin ring of purple before going to the bronze. It looks pretty great as is, that's just nitpicking. There's just something very slightly off about the transition from the dark to the purple.

First off good job on the main painting itself, nice and smooth and that's a gorgeous orange. as for the heat blend? Too much. repaint the silver and pull back the wash blends like in this pic. Also be sure to have a small overlap between the different washes.
>>
>>54981640
I would say after. Though personally I dislike the Eshen->Administratum blends on black. If you ever get the chance in the future, grab Dark Reaper, Russ Grey, and Fenrisian Grey. It gives a more blueish grey look.

Otherwise, Eshen->Nuln Oil->Eshen->Dawnstone->Administratum. Do go easy on the last tone paints, keep it subtle.
>>
>>54981776
Eshin > Administratum looks more natural than the blue-greys, which is good for tyranids.

I dont.

I have a long term project of creating my own chapter and I'm making ten captains + the chapter master.

Originally I made the guy with the big sword, so I can proxy as power sword / relic blade / burning blade + Storm Shield, which is ( or was ) a nice loadout for a captain.

Not that the captain is the most point effective HQ anyway.

I also play narrative and not just 40k, but also Kill Team and roleplay.

On boss I ended up with:
Castellan Green -> Deathworld Forest wash (I won't be doing it again because it's barely visible and agrax makes too much mess) -> Loren Forest -> Loren Forest/Elysian Green 1:1 -> Elysian Green -> Elysian Green/Ushabti bone 1:1 -> Elysian Green/Ushabti Bone/Kislev Flesh 1:1:1 (this goes only on knuckles, ears and lips)
Of course everything applied with 2-3 thin layers, my tip is "if it's visible on palette but not on model after first brushstroke - it's good to go"

You need more of an intermediate green between your dark and light shades. Use it on larger highlighted areas--chin and mouth, cheeks, and brow (when it's not covered by a hat). Then use that highlight shade sparingly on lips, nose ridges, ears, and just a touch on his cheekbones/chin.

Looks very proppa.
White marine helmet is a bit distracting as a focal point, any darker color would work better. Ofcourse fluff reasons override this.

You can try black/brown lining some scratches on metal to give them depth.
>>
>>54988936

>Ofcourse fluff reasons override this.

I think it's pretty cool, at first glance it looks like a Space Marine with no arm armor.
>>
>>54988860
How are you doing it? Isopropyl alcohol? I find it goes easier if you have a bunch of jars and don't try to do all the paint at once. Chuck one guy in each jar, wait five minutes, get the first one out, give him a quick scrub, chuck him back in, give the next guy a quick scrub, carry on until they have all had one, go back to the first guy... takes three or four goes to do the lot, but you don't have to scrub hard. Just enough to loosen one more layer of paint for the IPA to get at.

You can pour the IPA through a coffee filter to get the paint out and re-use it, by the way.

I got this weirdo tray with several different indents. Two are like small cups so I fill each with dettol and leave a bunch of minis overnight. Just dunked them about half an hour ago (7pm here) so tomorrow evening I'll give 'em a good toothbrushing and then pour the stuff through a filter like you said so I can strip a few more dudes.

It just smells and is an unpleasant thing to do in general, cause one wrong step and the paint gums up like a motherfucker and good luck getting that off.
>>
>>54988860
I'm in the process of stripping >100 Orks using Super Clean. If you're willing to use a 100% SC mix you can just dump them in and give a good swirl every now and again. Filter the paint from the SC using Cheese Cloth and then use it again. When you brush them put them in a tub of hot soapy water and give the models a quick hit with a toothbrush. You don't have to put much to any pressure on too, you just want to get the loose stuff off and scratch the understuff a bit before plopping them back in the SC. takes two dunks to get to primer, and three to four to get to full grey plastic. Metal models only take one dunk, and I usually only leave the models in 24h per dunk.

I've got ~80 Orks in the tub at the moment going through their second dunk with a 3:1 Water to Super Clean.

It was in a white dwarf, I imagine the one where either the Mines of Moria set was released or the Fellowship of the Ring much before. I remember them re-doing the entire Balrog Fight. I'm not sure how great my memory was as I remembered a battle report also from Helms Deep but it could have been Games Day.

>>54989286
Thin white paint with lahmian medium, not water. It won't dry as fast and it also won't clump up. White paint pigments are derived of chalk or lime, which are an ingredient used in cements.

If you don't to buy want lahmian, then consider liquitex drying retarder or flow improver. You will need to add many more layers of paint, but at least you won't get a model that looks like someone dipped it in glue then threw sand at it.
>>
>>54989461
That's a nice Chad on the right, how did you make that hand?
>>
>>54989414
Nope, it doesn't get gunky like Simple Green or Dettol, the SP can only eat so far before before you have to brush that layer off. It's kind of like rusty silver or copper in that sense. The soap and warm water just helps lift the paint when using the toothbrush. You can brush without any water or soap, it will just take more force and passes making you more likely to break details.

The filtering before reuse doesn't actually have to be done either, it just removes the paint particulates floating in the solution.

What would YOU do with a Pocket Duncan, /wipg/?

I got my monthly bitsbag today and the theme was chads. I didn't get enough parts to complete a single chad unfortunately, so all these arms and guns are likely going to be used for ork or general things.

Of note I got a complete chad jump pack. How heretical would it be for an inquisitor to have a remote-controlled gun drone based upon said jump pack?

There is very little you could do that would not be a better use of the pieces than Incepters.

A flying gun drone servitor for his retinue (so long as you explain that it is a servitor and thus moves like infantry) ought to be fine. Like a Servo Skull with more firepower.

Well the Boxset was a pretty good deal.

I don't really intend on getting chads ever, since my marines are chaos boys. All these ChadScout and ChadTact arms are going to be limited use. I also got some of the weapon-halves of the Aggressor combifists.

The gundrone is basically a way to represent the inquisitor's shooting wargear without modeling it directly on them.

If I had to replicate this I would try something like :

- Corax white sprayed

-And after those steps I will paint the black

Heat Bluing follows a gradation from blue to purple/black to orange to coppery tones. Just build stripes of that patter up with thing coats over boltgun metal. Or if you want to something technically simpler/sooty looking, build up black and brown washes to give it a dirty scorched look.
