In my 'medieval' folder I separate humans, humanoïds and other creatures.
In the humans folder I have sub folders for vague 'classes' which have sub folders themselves. Clerics and knights are all in a folder named 'Fighters', Chamans are in the 'Barbarian' folder.
In the humanoids folder I have vague folders for each kind of humanoid race (elves and faes, dwarves, gnomes and halflings, trolls and gobelins etc...) in which there may be sub folders like in the 'Furry shit' folder (for anthro animals, centaurs and all kinds of furry flavor) which contains folders like 'bird people', 'scalies' and 'water based'...
In creatures and monsters I have a 'FUCKING HELL' folder, a 'Dragon' folder, a 'weird animals' folder.

Also in the root I have a 'sci fi' and a 'modern' folder for those time periods which are divided in the same way as the 'medieval' folder.

they did have some, given handguns existed from the 1300 onwards. but they stopped using them for the same reason people were using less armour, they become obsolete. You've got to imagine carrying a thick metal pavise strong enoudh to stop bullets. i'd be expensive and too heavy to lug around.

Look at combat during the American Revolution, men would be in formations, marching to the orders given them by the commander or sergeant marching them, firing in volleys. that is how combat worked.
Sniping was seen as ungentlemanly (America did it anyway) and hiding from the enemy (like a guerilla attack, America also did) equally so.
If you did have a shield it would be built into the fortress or fort you were defending and thus okay.
I'm not saying they didn't use them expressly because it was cowardice, but that is a reason an army of Regulars would give for why the ragtag opponent shouldn't use it.
It was mainly just impractical for how battle worked back then
