Reprint policy is not a binding contract, it's an informal promise. They can break it whenever they fucking want. Proof? THEY HAVE DONE IT BEFORE. Cards have been removed from the reserved list in the past, most notably Demonic Tutor, and the only excuse they offered was "overwhelming public support" (=online poll).

If they said they're going to abolish the reserved list at the end of the year, there would be no grounds to sue them on. All they have to do is point to the fact that the list has already been altered in the past and nobody whined back then.

The important part of this is that, for instance, if you control Sharuum and Phyrexian Metamorph enters the battlefield under your control as a copy of it, you'll put one of them into the graveyard before Metamorph Sharuum's ability is put on the stack, meaning that will be a legal target for the ability. Mox Diamond wasn't the card that got the loophole closed, it was Phyrexian Negator. Yes, though if you are going to be running sharuum as a general, I would recommend moving sharuum to the graveyard and looping that instead. If you get hit by graveyard hate you can always apply the commander replacement effect to sharuum, but Metamorph will be gone

No, not quite. Abilities being put onto the stack are not state-based actions. They're put onto the stack the next time a player would receive priority when a game event or game state matches their trigger event.

The important distinction here is that state-based actions happen before a player would receive priority, and a triggered ability is put onto the stack when a player would receive priority. All SBAs will have been performed before a triggered ability would be put onto the stack, not quite "simultaneously".

Also, an important thing to keep in mind is that triggered abilities can trigger during the resolution of a spell or ability, then they'll patiently wait until it's finished resolving and be put onto the stack after, when a player would receive priority. State-based actions, on the other hand, are not checked or performed during the resolution of spell or ability.

Say for instance you control Force of Savagery and Murkwood Liege. If, for whatever reason, you use Collective Effort to destroy your own Murkwood Liege and put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control, the fact that Force of Savagery will have had 0 toughness between those two actions won't actually matter, because it will have 1 toughness from the counter when State-based actions are actually checked.

Here's more information. The original announcement for reserve list in 1996 said the following:

Right, but you need rings and monolith either untapped with two mana open or tapped with five mana open to combo off (3: Untap Monolith, 2: Duplicate the untap ability, allow copied untap to resolve, tap for 3 in response to original untap. If you cast monolith, tap it to cast rings, then you still need to spend five to untap it and combo off.

I like to use cyclonic rift in tandem with hand cycling, it's expensive, but it hits everything, and you can cast rift right before your turn starts to break the cost up over two turns and it generates more hate than standard field wipes for some reason, which I love

Tempo is more important in this format than many think, and a lot of temporary removal is severely underrated, especially in metas where activated abilities are common on creatures or graveyard interaction is prevalent. It's quite nice to bounce the Predator Ooze the Vorel player's been growing or the germ token a Scythecalw is attached to. Many cards like Assemble the Legion and Gemstone Array are also good targets.

This also helps screw with opposing buildup early on. If your opponent wanted to play it the first time, they'll likely be incentivized to replay it instead of shifting their gameplan over to cut their losses in the wake of the response, slowing them down even further. Might be worth looking into if non-ETB combo/sac combos are present in your meta.

The lawsuit meme is ridiculous.

To prevail in an American Court under contract law, you have to, at the very least, show that you were harmed by the action a company took in breaking the contract. Any damages that you're entitled to would be damages based on that harm.

Empirically, reprints increase prices in the short term, and slightly increase them or keep them the same in the long term, because demand for a format goes up when it appears to have support, and more stock. So if Wizards was to print cards on the reserved list without affecting prices, nobody would be able to successfully sue them in America.

Even if they did affect prices, and lowered them, odds are, store owners wouldn't be overall negatively affected, because they would be selling boosters of Reserved List Masters like crack cocaine. No overall harm=no damages.

Finally, that's all assuming that the reserved list is an enforceable contract. It isn't. The only doctrine of law that would support damages is Promissory Estoppel, but that's a whole issue on its own, and the class of people capable of suing under it is very tiny. And they would still have to prove actual harm. Even if they were capable of proving damages and suing, the cost of the lawsuit would be peanuts compared to the profits wotc stands to make.

There's no valid legal or financial reason to not abolish the reserved list.
