LFG: Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2e!

https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/84999/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-2e

Disregard the time/date -- those are negotiable. I just had to put something down in order to publicly list it on Roll20.

Welcoming to New Players so long as you have a grasp of Warhammer Fantasy (especially the Empire's tone). I'm confident all of you do.

I'd also love if someone else would GM as the main reason I'm coming to Roll20 and /tg/ is I'm the Forever-GM of my group of real life friends and super tired of it.

I've never been able to play my concept of Jeeves and Wooster (Valet and Noble) in a Medieval/Fantasy setting. Or my crazy radiocaster journalist based on Alex Jones in Call of Cthulhu. All my character concepts lost... like tears... in rain.

It can't.

Everqueen legitimacy is by decleration of Isha.

I feel like spamming 'Questing Knight on Waywatcher pls' wouldn't really work out. I'm really just disappointed that a setting with so much variety seems so one-note in what's produced from it. Did people just get bored of humans and elves or something?
>>
>>54625663
They're supposed to be living in swamps and fens in crumbling ruins in the northern and eastern Empire, reclusive and slowly dying out and reluctant to do more than raid for food or slaves.

They've never had any real connection with Norsca, and you know, they're amphibious - the climate must not be good for them. Why else do you think they live in wet swampy places?
>>
>>54625393
>>54625421
I love this whole initial exchange. The 'discordance' thing especially really sells the idea of lizardmen having an alien culture, but you can see how it might work.

>>54625663
It's not lore-unfriendly per se, they're just not particularly associated with Norsca.
>>
>>54625663
It's not against lore per se, just unusual as there's never been mention of Norscan-Fimir relations prior. The Fimir are in a similar situation as Dragon-Ogres where they're bound to the forces of Chaos but don't really associate with any other race.
>>
>>54625737
Northern empire's climate is basically the same as Norsca
>>
>>54625680
They have that anyway, the disloyal nobles need Tyrion, Finubar, and Alarielle to tell them to shut the fuck up constantly.
>>
>>54625757
Technically it seems like they've bound themselves in pacts to daemons, pacts that a skilled wizard might be able to take advantage of.

>>54625769
>kinda cold and forested place that still has summers

>>
>>54625779
Would an high elf noble stoop so low as to hire some dark elf assassins to get rid of tyrion?
>>
>>54625697
People aren't requesting it other than furries.

That's the only problem.

Just go and post once a request for Questing Knight on Waywatcher with an example pic of what both look like per thread, posting to the anchor post each subsequent time.

Any of you wanting to see lewd of something not Skaven or Saurus should do the same.

>>>/aco/1598065
>>
>>54625814
Nordland is the same as Norsca climate-wise. They literally see eachother on opposite sides of the sea of claws
>>
>>54625823
No.

But the Swordmasters and Shadow Warriors spy on the entirety of Elf society and assassinate traitors, so its not likely to succeed since you'd be caught in a sting.

Not to mention that if it were possible it would have already happened.
They already wasted the Manchurian Candidate idea, it won't work again.
>>
>>54625877
What if a high elf noble wants to have a rival noble killed while he's away, like at sea or in the Empire?
Would the swordmasters be able to reach him beyond Ulthuan?
>>
>>54625877
It's not like they're infallible - it'd be risky and unlikely, but if a high elf noble really wanted it they could make it work. Dark Elves have sent over spies and assassins before.
>>
>>54625178
Norsca in Total War has nothing that Chaos Warriors can't already get in real Warhammer except Marauders with different weapons and ice trolls, and even the TWW ice trolls are nothing like the actual Norse snow trolls as described in fluff, just standard chaos trolls.
>>
Dwarfag of /wfbg/ i need to ask, has there been a hold in that one mountain that has the world's only known mine of brynduraz that is now occupied by greenskins?
I sorta want to make the endgame goal for my dwarf to gain permission to lead an expedition there to cleanse it from goblins and build a hold. The first new hold since the time of woes
>>

>>
>>54625823

That or just spread the word that Tyrion fancies a second trip to the shrine of Asuryan and let someone else organise his unfortunate demise. And make sure nobody fucking dares think anything about it anywhere near Saphery incase Teclis catches wind of it.
>>

He's better off hiring a champion to duel.

>>54626022
We don't know enough to say for certain, but most likely if there was an important mine there would be a Hold to be enriched by it.

>>54626101
Shadow Warriors aren't mercs, they act on their own and almost wholly against Dark Elves.

I also doubt they'd care about Tyrion getting the Widowmaker, they're kind of all already there.
>>
So you know how FW did models and rules for Incarnate Elementals (avatars of a Wind summoned by powerful rituals) for Beasts and Fire? What do you think Incarnate Elementals of Light, Shadow, Life, Metal, Heavens, and Death would be like? Could Incarnate Elementals of Dark and High Magic exist?

Bumping my own posts as I think that we could get an interesting discussion going regarding core choice in general for WoC and in particular the usage of Forsaken.

To add something new and fresh I can add that I usually field a maximum of two small units of Forsaken, composed of no more than six minis each. The tactic I use for them is to either set them up on a flank or supporting a Warrior unit by having them plough away any trash unit sent to occupy my Warrior-block after which they would ideally serve as flank chargers for any unit that my warriors attack.
>>
>>54626193
>how is he going to contact dark elves
What if he sends an anonymous message to some dwarf mercenaries saying that particular elf killed their great great great great great uncle andwas bragging in a local tavern of how the dwarf begged in his gibberish tongue and pissed himself
>>
>>54626071
Yes, they have fimirs and skin wolves. I forgot about wyrms, but I'm sure some monster can be proxied as one. Norse berserkers are just marauders with MoK. What sets huscarls apart from marauders?
>>
>>54626308
Prolly bonus vs large or armor pen.
>>
>>54626308
Huscarls are listed as "Marauder Champions" and they form their own unit; basically just high tier infantry as far as a Marauder army goes. Frost-Wyrm is a reskinned Chaos Dragon but it's not so good at fighting, rather it has a one or two major slowing debuffs which lock down units.
>>
>>54626274
1) Elves don't know Khazalid, and Dwarfs have eyes for imperfection. They'll know its an Elf writing it.
2) They keep their own Grudges.
3) No Elf will tell a Dwarf what to do.
4) Tyrion is just below Gotrek in that he soloes armies for lulz. Some random Dwarfs won't kill him. Especially since they won't assassinate unless its a Ranger and Rangers focus on actual enemies and treasure, not random cunts.
>>
Okay, I have a question about the setting of warhammer fantasy as a whole, and that is: What niche do the Greenskins fulfill that the Beastmen do not?
Now I am sure that both races are included in the game because the Greenskins were there first because orcs and goblins are staple fantasy race, and then the Beastmen were added later on, but I just feel like they are too similar in personality as factions.
They are both antagonist factions with "an anarchic, horde of invading barbarians with anti-civilization"-theme, both factions have a caste system based on the various sub-races that make up their ranks (gors/ungors/brays vs. orcs/goblins), they both have shamans as their spell-casters and they worship they evil gods...
The only thing that I see that seperates the factions is that the Greenskins have role as the comic relief, but other than that they seem very similar. What do you others think?
>>
>>54626463

Guys, maybe i'm being naively optimistic... but do you get a sense that GW may start doing at the very least, original novels/stories for the Old World? Wasn't there a newish Gotrek and Felix story released? Plus the Lizardmen flufff for Total War?

I would be satisifed (partially) if GW would still produce fluff and books for the old world. Especially due to the overall success of Total War...

Monstrous Arcanum has rules and a picture for the Incarnate Elemental of Death. It's a two-headed dragon with an hourglass held between its heads.

I find the concept of the Incarnate Elementals quite interesting actually, because GW never really formalised the concept of elemental 'daemons' despite them showing up in a few places: Forest Spirits, Kislevite Spirits, Arabyan Djinn and possibly the K'Daai.
>>
>>54626545
Beastmen existed from the beginning alongside Orcs, but you have to remember both have their origins in the game being closer to an RPG where each player has a warband of random minis instead of a single character and you can fight other players as much as be in a "party" with them.

Also remember Orcs were just D&D minis rebranded, Beastmen were Glorantha minis rebranded.

Finally Beastmen are not supposed to be their own army and weren't until 7e, they were options in a unified Daemons/Warriors/Beastmen army. Its like splitting off Goblins or Trolls into their own army, it works poorly.

>>54626574
Still the problem that its insulting and unlikely to work. We saw in Grudge Of Drong that rare and unsavory Dwarfs can retool or misremember a Grudge for gain, but some random lesser being claiming he knows a Grudge you don't is more likely to get that human some brain damage from a beating.

>>
>>54626545
Orcs are not anti-civilisation
The difference is that beastmen hate life and everything in it, including themselves. They only live to kill and despoil, make everything beautiful ugly and everything good bad.

Orcs don't have any of that drive. They live life. They love to eat and fight and for them death has little meaning as long as it was a good scrap. Their society is simple but well organised, despite looking chaotic from the outside. Orcs don't hate, at least not more than any other race, their philosophy about things is usually "waste not, want not, unless you're in for a fite, in dat case get krumpin' "

They fill different niches because beastmen are the hidden threat of the wild, the monster that lurk in the woods waiting to snag some lone woodsman or a child that wandered too far from the village.

Orcs are a loud and marauding mob that does what it does because they love it. They are barbarians in for loot and war, nothing else. The don't embody the fear of the wild, but the destruction brought by senseless violence

I feel like Beastmen act as some sort of guerrilla force that always keeps the Old World on edge - they're the ones waiting in the shadows, striking when you least expect it, a shadow just waiting for you to turn around so it can clobber you from behind. They also represent a vile, twisted side of nature that helps put Taal and even the Wood Elves in relief and makes them look less bad. Also they're kind of necessary for Boris Todbringer to be interesting.

Orcs have roughly two layers to them - 'civilized' Orcs and savage Orcs, whereas all beastmen are essentially the same. And they're the anarchic horde focused on nothing but battle, where the danger is in them unifying and posing an actual threat rather than them being a constant threat you have to keep an eye on. A bit more important for Dwarves, but there's always a chance a horde will stream over the mountains and fuck over the Empire. and unlike the beastmen, they don't really align with Chaos, so they can act as a third party in what would otherwise generally be a two-way war between order and chaos (and undead, but we're not talking about them right now).

The biggest problem as far as I see it is that both factions suffer as far as how they can make their characters interesting, since generally they're all so one-note.

I know what you mean but I think they're more different than a cursory inspection would suggest, at least in character.

Greenskins are humourous yobbos (sound familiar?). They're happy-go-lucky thugs who don't destroy out of hate necessarily, but because they enjoy it. They would quite happily ally with humans temporarily if it gave them a better chance to drink and loot.

Beastmen are not happy-go-lucky. Beastmen are hate incarnate. They're the reason you don't go into the woods. They destroy because they despise civilisation and all its trappings. They are envious of the society that shuns them, of the freedom men have over their own fates.

The Greenskins have it pretty good, in their own way. They live to fight and die, and despite their fundamental cowardly nature, they don't fear death as anything beyond a bit of bad luck.
Beastmen are perhaps to be pitied. Albeit from a safe distance.

Aside from being an excuse for a different miniature range, beastmen are the dark fate of humanity should they succumb to chaos. They're much like all the "evil" races. They will roll in and wholesale slaughter and pillage everything in their path. What makes them different is the aesthetic and the theme. While a man will never be a goblin or an orc, he's only a few mutations and goat fucking away from being a beastman. They are humanities dark reflection if they succumb to chaos, the thing every man not mighty enough to become a chaos warrior will eventually turn to, a slave to violence and destruction more at home naked and rolling in the mud than farming some crops and raising a family.
>>
>>54627047
I think there's an assumption that the Empire views Orcs in the same way as the Imperium views Orks. But in fantasy there isn't quite the same state-mandated xenophobia towards other races, just towards Chaos.

That said, most Imperials still hate greenskins because they are traditional enemies. It's just not heresy to deal with them.

Already happening. Since Total War: Warhammer did so well they gave CA license to write new continuity and units rather than strictly adhere to existing, and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is getting a new edition.

It's also stated in Warhammer World.

Basically in old Warhammer lore when Sigmar left the Empire his first stop was to return Ghal Maraz to the Dwarfs. The hammer was a gift to him - not to all humans, so Sigmar respected that by returning it. Sigmar understood how dwarfs think.

Anyway, fast forward a few years and the dwarfs and empire are making gifts of friendship. The dwarfs gift them with 'A Hammer Named Skullbreaker (Ghal-Maraz)'.

The problems are:
1. They never say this was Sigmar's hammer. Silly anons will cry and say dwarfs aren't underhanded lkke that, but they have never made a deal with a dwarf - they openly state that it was simply a hammer named Ghal Maraz.

2. Whilst that Hammer is still top notch, it isn't 'Sigmar wrecking armies' top notch. Some of the attributes attributed to the hammer are no longer present. You can debate that some of the power - or even most - really came from Sigmar himself.

That is basically the root of the theory. Again the biggest argument is the letter on the wall at Warhammer World.
>>
>>54630662
you do realize that sigmar was based off conan the barbarian and one of the key themes of the movie was that it was the warrior that makes the weapon, not the weapon that makes the warrior.

It's worth noting that: (spoilers for the Enemy Within)
In Empire in Flames, the player characters are tasked with retrieving Sigmar's Hammer. Apparently he was on his way to Karaz a Karak when he found some dwarfs that needed his help with a daemon. The daemon fled through a portal into the warp and Sigmar followed, leaving Ghal Maraz behind. When Sigmar didn't return, the dwarfs sealed up the hold.
Also, the original Ghal Maraz was supposedly forged by the Ancestor Gods.

In any case, I figure it doesn't exactly matter if Ghal Maraz is a fake. As far as the Empire and the Cult of Sigmar is concerned, that is the real hammer, and as such it has a whole nation's power of belief behind it. It probably manifests the power everyone thinks it has just by virtue of faith.

An interesting theory. Are there any other examples of that in lore? I mean, at worse you could just say it was a miracle and Sigmar turned it into the legit thing.

Pic related spells it out fairly explicitly. I believe the general principles are discussed in the Realms of Chaos books and probably in Liber Chaotica too.

>>54631976
Both the primary characteristics and the secondary characteristics in the career are maximums rather than increases. So a Soldier takes an advance to get 2 attacks (base 1, +1 from the career). He then becomes a Veteran, but since he already has +1 attack and the career gives +1, he can't take any more advances. The Veteran then becomes a Champion. Since Champion has +2 attacks, he takes an advance to gain another attack and now has 3 attacks (1 base, +2 that he bought from careers).
>>

That was literally a background detail in a WFRP game I ran, a semi-popular play running the playhouse circuit in the Empire. Basically a romantic tragedy/drama about a knight and a wood elf waywatcher. Bretonnian knights found it downright offensive and elves found it hysterical. Were stacks, just like the picture states.

Career progressions are an upper cap that you can reach by spending xp. New careers don't stack, but if you unlock a higher progrssion option (going from +10 to +20) you replace it with the higher value - letting you spend more xp to go further up the ladder.

>Can a magical weapon become MORE magical through circumstance? I thought there was a hard limit to how much magic an item could contain?
God knows. I don't think I've ever seen a limit mentioned. Faith doesn't necessarily need to change the item itself though. It could just cause miraculous events focused on the item in question.
Consider the short story at the end of the 6th edition Empire book. Pic related.
It's obvious that incarnating the spirit of Sigmar isn't part of Ghal Maraz' magic - it was created long before Sigmar was born. So the manifestation of Sigmar is either a miracle or an effect of the belief focused on Ghal Maraz.
Although if you believe Liber Chaotica, those are the same thing - all divine power being manifest belief.

You have to remember that the Warhammer world has humans who rarely interact with people of other provinces and duchies, let alone other races and nations. The most multiculturalism you'll probably see will be in cities, or in certain parts of the Empire or Bretonnia where other races are more common - Marienburg and L'Anguille see a good few elves, Wissenland and Parravon have a lot of interaction with the Dwarves, etc.

That said, and noting that banging other races doesn't seem to happen often, to be uncomfortably frank I think it would be seen as people of a few centuries ago in our world would've seen banging other races - vulgar, unholy, but in some places accepted or possibly even respected (or maybe just understood, because yellow fever or civilizing the natives or whatever). Only in WFB, you'd have some races never wanting to fuck (elves and dwarves), and some races probably considering others more attractive (humans towards elves). Some Marienburg families would be overjoyed at the idea that their son might be a boytoy for a High Elf lady, who could hopefully give them a good word on trade deals.

That might be a limitation on the item or a limitation on the maker.
Realms of Sorcery for WFRP 2e says under the Rule of Three that 'a single item can contain only so much power', but Realms of Sorcery and Dwarfs: Stone and Steel for WFRP 1e say that 'any attempt to violate the aforementioned rules of Runic magic will inevitably fail, as no living runesmith is capable of weaving so much magical power into a single item'.
Speaking of Dwarfs: Stone and Steel, there's a decent passage spelling out the Ghal Maraz situation.

>Is that what the realm of chaos is? Just percolating emotions that eventually leaks back into the world as magic?
I believe the idea is that the Realm of Chaos is a sea of magic that would usually be placid, but is agitated by the emotions of living entities. Like... that pink goo in Ghostbusters 2. Maybe.

First Edition almost always makes for better Empire lore -- except their handling of Karl-Franz and his dynasty. I prefer the Storm of Chaos-era "Karl-Franz is a political maneuverer, not a warrior" than 1st Edition: "Karl-Franz is a dying old man who gives mutants rights and makes mutant-killing illegal."

My personal fix for when I run The Enemy Within (((SPOILERS AHEAD))):

The dying emperor is Luitpold II,
Karl-Franz's canon father. Also Karl-Franz had an older brother, Wolfgang von Holswig-Schliestein -- the corrupted mutant prince who is revealed as the villain at the end of the campaign.

>>54633807

I'm not passing any judgement, I'm just saying that feelings about racial mixing used to be a lot stronger not even a century ago. And since Warhammer is (loosely) based on a historical version of our world, it's not unfair to try and keep our own past ideas in mind when looking at it.

That is something I actually like about Warhammer - a lot of it is comfortably based on the known and understandable. How cities and governments work, the fact that there are craftsmen and pawnshops and even factories, people just living their lives.

People say Sigmar = Charlemagne but he's more Charles Martell. Martell was more of a hammer-wielding barbarian who solidified his status as King of the Franks by defeating the Muslim invasion of Western Europe at Tours. Hey fa/tg/uys.

A few weeks ago I posted a battle report for my Tears of Isha campaign. I completed scenario number 2 last week, an ambush played between a band of assassins assaulting a secret Shadow Warrior camp. I just completed the battle report today:

Ambush!

A flock of Assassins –
Kaladath, 2 hand weapons, repeater hand bow, dodge (4+)
Assassin - 2 hand weapons
Assassin- manbane, 2 hand weapons
5 dark riders with xbows/shields
5 dark riders with xbows/shields
8 shades with additional hand weapons
8 shades with additional hand weapons
20 witch elves with command
14 xbows with musician

Shadow warriors-
Alatar, prince of shadows: shield, light armor, Jade bow
6 shadow warriors with champion
6 shadow warriors
12 sword masters full command
5 ellyrian reavers
5 ellyrian reavers
3 great eagles

Hoping to maintain the initiative after the overwhelming success of his raid on the shore beacon, Kaldor the cruel sent his assassins out to exterminate the shadows warriors watching the paths inland, hoping to blind his opponent to the coming march. Kaladath the black, using the intelligence provided by Kaldor, took a flock of his assassins and initiates, along with a mob of witch elves to strike their mainland cousins while they gathered in their hidden camp.

This battle was an ambush fought between a 1250 point army of dark elf assassins and shades, vs a smaller 1000 point army of shadow warriors and allies. The shadow warriors had an 8' radius circle to deploy in the center of the board, while the dark elves were able to deploy 2nd up to 8 inches from all but the east table edge. The high elves objectives would be to save the shadow warriors- every one that escaped off the east table edge will grant an advantage in the final battle. The druchii assassins goal would be to exterminate the shadow warriors, and thus prevent them from having a presence in the final battle.

The high elves deployed in a tight ring, with the shadow warrior as east as possible, the sword masters in the center facing south, and the reavers taking the rear of this formation. The eagles were deployed in the center as well, prepared to use Their flight to reach whatever location needed them the most.

The dark elves deployed for a hooked pincer maneuver. In the south were a unit of shades with the assassin T'mas disguised among them, the witches led by Kaladath, and the dark riders, primed to close the trap. In the north were the xbows, more shades containing the hidden assassin Ati, and the other dark riders, forming the top tooth of the trap.

Turn 1
With an ear piercing screech, the eagles warned the high elves of their approaching enemies, and the assassins launched their ambush. The dark riders marched around the woods to block off anyone attempting to break out of the trap. In the north, Ati revealed herself and led the shades through the trees hoping to unleash a volley of barbed bolts at point blank range into their surprised foes. The crossbow regiment casually strode forward into the woods to mop up any survivors. To the south, the shades ran around the hut to threaten the rear of the high elf formation and goad them into the waiting blades of the witch elves who marched through the trees, panting and bloodthirsty with murderous intent. When first volley of bolts came, it was devastating. While the dark riders found themselves unable to hit their foes, the shades killed 2 of the shadow warriors in the north and the southern regiment killed 5 swordmasters, nearly cutting their number in half, but the grim warriors resisted the urge to panic. The crossbow unit in the north fired their first volley, slaying one of the northern ellyrian reavers.

Realizing that to stay and fight would be nothing but a pointless death, Alatar rallied his warriors and urged them to the east to escape the brutal attack. The shadow warriors marched up the middle, while 2 eagles flew south and one north to cover their flanks from the dark elves on either side. The sword master turn to face the shades, hoping to stop them from completely surrounding the high elderly column and the reavers follow up at a slow pace to cover the rear of the shadow warriors. The shadow warriors unleash a return volley against the dark riders, hoping to clear a path to escape, but the riders armor and shields prove out against the shafts. The reavers also try to shoot down their mounted counterparts, but only succeed in felling one in the north. Alatar himself drew back his mighty bow, but the chaos of the ambush must have disrupted his concentration and his shot flew wild into the night.

Turn 2

Wailing a terrible prayer to Khaine as a battlecry, the dark elf assassins sprung towards the high elves. The witches leap upon the brave eagle blocking their path to the elves behind. The shades to the south charge the depleted sword masters, who hold their long blades ready to receive them. In the north, the shades and their assassin charge the ellyrian reavers from a close position before they can no k arrows. The southern dark riders raise their shields to catch a potentially deadly volley of shadow warrior arrows as they charge the southern unit. In the north, the other dark riders charge Alatar and his unit; Alatar takes a moment to judge their charge and one after another fires 3 arrows, that strike down all but one of the vicious raiders. The last rider, shocked at the deadly accuracy of the grim warrior immediately turned her steed and fled!
The crossbow unit continued their methodically plodding pace and fires a dark cloud of death from their crossbows at the unengaged ellyrians, but only killed one of the horsemen.

Against the reavers in the north, Ati drew 2 wicked blades and cut down one of the riders horses. As he was crushed underneath, she used the animal as a springboard, killing two more in the air and finally landing on the last horse and kicking the rider off with a broken neck. Have witnessed the ferocity of her attack, the great eagle who was flying with them fled from her as swiftly as possible. The dark riders in the south lowered their spears and cut down 4 of the shadow warriors, but losing 3 of their number to the smoke blackened blades. Nevertheless the shadow warriors knew they were outmatched and fled, only to be cut down by the dark riders, whose momentum carried them on into the remaining ellyrian reavers.
In the rear, T'mas revealed himself to the swordmasters, each of his strikes felling one of the brave agents of the tower. The shades kill another of their complement. Seeing himself outnumber and surrounded, their champion fled as swiftly as he could. The shades let him run and turned to face the remnant of the high elves.
Out of the woods, Kaladath personally leapt onto the back of the great eagle in front of him, lopping the beasts head off in an instant. The witches, bloodlust in full control, threw themselves onto the corpse, rending it apart in their fury instead of running towards their living foes.

Alatar was struggling to keep his escape organized, with more than half his forces gone or fled, it was swiftly becoming a rout. It was the sacrifice of the great eagles which allowed him to marshal what remained of his shadow warriors. The southern eagle flew to block the witches for another moment, while the eagle in the north rallied his senses.
Shooting on the run, the shadow warriors kill one of Ati's shades, but Alatar struggles to find his mark again and misses.
The remaining cavalry find themselves evenly matched, and at the end of the stamping melee, only one reaver remained on the field.

Turn 3

Knowing victory was near, the druchii pressed the attack. The witch elves continues to give themselves over to frenzy, rushing the remaining eagle. Everyone else turns to give chase to the fleeing shadow warriors. T'mas's shades shred the wings of the unengaged eagle with the crossbows, with T'mas himself finishing the wounded creature with a poisoned bolt. Ati herself aims at Alatar and wounds him grievously, but he still stood, while 2 more of his warriors died around him as the relentless crossbows continued their downpour of death.
The witches hurtled into a brutal, stabbing frenzy on the last, doomed eagle, rushing over and across, tearing it apart on their mad rush towards the last few high elves.
Alatar continued dashing towards the eastern woods and safety, just shy of escape before he had to face one last assault by his evil cousins. What few arrows his warriors had left continued to find no purchase amongst the dark elves. As shades and witches raced towards him with deadly intentions, he gave a final order to his band and they scattered into the woods, fleeing the charging assassins.

For a WHFRP 2e campaign I'm running, I thought it'd be interesting if I had objects and barriers in fight locations and rooms randomly generated, similar to Kingdom Death:Monster. I thought that the best way to do this is create decks of cards for the differing enviroments, as well as their differing scales.

>What else should I add to this list of objects I've made so far and each card's rate of occurrence in a deck?

Also, I'm not considering every miscellaneous object under the sun for this list -- this is primarily for objects that can affect combat. Like a cliff is not immediately traverseable, or
while a fence isn't immediately traverseable but melee combat is still possible.

The major difference there is that the Mongols sort of didn't care if they had one big empire. I mean it took them years to actually settle down in Nanjing rather then roam around in tents.
Most weren't really that interesting in ruling an empire, just conquering it.
>>
>>54636902
Different Khanates had different approaches - some went 'fuck you we're going to just roam around the wilderness and hunt shit, who needs your civilization,' others only cared about tribute but realized that keeping trade open and making sure cities prospered meant more tribute, and some just replaced the ruling class and forgot their Mongol roots.

It's actually rather fascinating, and I'd recommend people stealing the idea for their fantasy settings if they want to explain a sudden amount of variety after a unified horde sweeps through.
>>
>>54636963
It partially has to due with the Mongolians barely being "unified" at all in the way most cultures consider the term; they were all agreeing to follow Temujin as the Khaghan, but the position wasn't the same thing as being a king, just "supreme military leader" more or less.

No, the Chaos creator guy said that everyone gonna be nommed by Chaos. It's not in everyone is dead and Chaos rolled over anyway. It's Chaos grinding the races and the world to dust through unending invasions. He has a point in his powerpoint presentation where it's said that Chaos has this paradox about it where if you fight back against them you only make them stronger. So lets break this down. You have an eternal enemy that knows no fear or pain. He has access to infinite resources. The more you fight him the stronger and more intelligent he becomes and the more weaker you become. This enemy is not something you can defeat. This enemy can only be stopped by himself. It's not even the physical threat of Chaos that's the worst part. Chaos gets in the minds of its enemies subverting any effort to combat it and turning even its greatest enemies to its side (see Archaon).

The creator guy presented the Undead as the only faction that was capable of undermining this by creating a static emotionless world of grayness and stasis. This ending is more horrible than the Chaos ending since its boring as fuck. Burning something down is more fun than wrapping it in nylon and putting it in a freezer forever.

Basically, Chaos is the biblical God. The Alpha and the Omega. You cannot defeat God. You live in his world.
>>
>>54638082
Could you run 3e with the dice system from star wars reasonably well or would it require a shitload of overhaul?

>This ending is more horrible than the Chaos ending since its boring as fuck. Burning something down is more fun than wrapping it in nylon and putting it in a freezer forever.

Talk about an edgelord mary sue of an argument.

Had Storm of Chaos continued it was very likely Chaos was done for. Aenarion almost ended them once too. They could lose and lose pretty bad, which is why they needed unity to be strong. This is how the comparatively weaker Law gods could outmatch Chaos. Entropy was more prevalent and stronger, but Law was more determined and unified. Persia vs. Sparta.

The analogy really fails on that last line, since the Chaos Gods had nothing to do with the creation of the Warhammer world. Technically neither did the Old Ones, but it's more as if the Chaos Gods saw a cool sandbox some other kids were playing with and wanted to smash everything in it.

I still generally prefer the idea that Chaos could potentially be eternally beaten off, as long as no one fighting it fucked up and the Chaos gods didn't want any of their siblings to get the upper hand in the mortal world. It's just postponing the inevitable, but without it you might as well be going 'what's the point, let's let them win.' And that knocks the legs out from what's supposed to be a wargame setting.

>Had Storm of Chaos continued it was very likely Chaos was done for.

Nope, Archaon is an Everchosen. Even if he died somebody else will come to take his place. One after another until the world was destroyed.

>Aenarion almost ended them once too.

The lore OUTRIGHT states that Aenarion and Elves were losing the war. Aenarion realized this too late and went to defend the ritual which was the only hope for the world. There he was mortally wounded by four greater daemons (The Great Unclean One nearly outright killed him if it wasn't for his dragon).

Why can't I just kill myself instead of giving you and your burly friends the pleasure? If I don't have a chance of even driving you off, let alone actually achieving some sort of victory, there's no real point in fighting. I can't even protect my pets/family members by my self-sacrifice, at best it's an emotional gesture rather than anything meaningful. You have to at least give me some actual reason to fight beyond 'oooh something bad's gonna happen to people you care about that you can't prevent anyway!'

And I think you're ignoring the part of the setting where, by almost superhuman effort, lots of sacrifice, and the powers of the greatest minds and the grandest warriors, Chaos can actually be driven off, even if only for a few centuries or even just a few decades. The family members and pets can be saved to quarrel among themselves for another day.

>And I think you're ignoring the part of the setting where, by almost superhuman effort, lots of sacrifice, and the powers of the greatest minds and the grandest warriors, Chaos can actually be driven off

Actually, it's YOU who ignored a crucial part in Chaos's writing. It's not by the efforts of these heroes and sacrifice that the world endures. It's by Chaos's whim and infighting nature that the world continues to exist. The issue here is about egotism. You want your self inserts to matter when in the grand scale of things they don't.

>Why can't I just kill myself instead of giving you and your burly friends the pleasure?

You can. There are people who choose self destruction rather than being forced to endure the horror.

So i'm organising a WFRP game for my friends and i'm coming up with a possible setting taking place shortly after the Storm of Chaos. Tell me if it makes sense/is interesting enough:

>Valten BTFO archaon, but unfortunately died in mysterious circumstances
>Archaon survived, but fled with his army and his reputation in shambles
>this has thrown the hordes of chaos in complete disarray, because until now no Everchosen survived his failings
>the chaos gods themselves are tripping balls, fighting among themselves like never before
>nurgle and slaanesh want to keep supporting archaon, khorne and tzeentch want to search for a new Everchosen.
>down South, Louen declares an Erranty War against the chaos wastes, calling all bretonnian knights to his side
>literally ALL bretonnian knights
>Kislev ison its knees, the Tzarina has disappeared during the invasion, some say she died, other that she's currently prisoner among the kurgan
>KF is busy rebuilding. Openlysays that Louen's idea is borderline idiotic, but is not stopping imperial volunteers to follow him
>the dwarfs retreated to their mountains and for once decided to ride the wave and start the "crusades against the greenskins". Ungrim decided it's time for him to die and is marching straight for the north pole at the head of the largest slayer host the world has ever seen. Apparently he plans to "kill himself a god"

The end should see the PCs close the chaos gate. It's not a permanent solution but will effectively reset the doomsday clock like how grimnir did, stemming the tide of chaos and making it surge out less frequently, like at the time of morkar and asavar kul and buy the world a millenia or so of relative peace where common folks will have time to die at the tip of an orc's spear.

Archaon should show up to "help" the PCs in killing the new Everchosen and let them close the gate, because he wants to be the only Everchosen but figured it will take time for him to regain the gods' favour

>>
>>54638729 #
Ignoring a whiny cunt with no physical presence in a a debate it DOES though.
If you hid every post he made and then stopped responding to him entirely he would literally no longer exist for the purpose of this board because nobody could see him, nobody would talk to him, and nobody would care what he thought. Eventually he'd leave or stop posting because he'd effectively not exist for the purposes of this board.

It's easy as fuck; I've got ten threads straight managing to not reply to him even once and hiding his posts when they show up. I couldn't even tell you what he argues about anymore beyond "something something Chaos something Everchosen" because he's just not there anymore for my viewing of the board.
Meanwhile all you've ever done was fail on every conceivable level to actually change his mind or influence him in any way.

Man the fuck up, it's not like it's a hard exercise regimen I'm suggesting or something. It's one button press and then doing NOTHING.
>>
>>54638811
I don't think there's ever been any indications of that, since as far as I recall the Cult of Ulric has no particular presence in Kislev where ice magic works the way it's supposed to.
Ulricans have magic the way most priests do, but it doesn't seem to work the same way or anything.
>>
>>54638817
>Is the quality for warhammer fantasy novels as spotty as the 40k ones?

It's one of the basic drawbacks of licensed setting novel writing; quality control will be pretty shoddy at best.

>>
>>54638912
Actually, Ice Magic does have an excuse that works akin to the way Rune Magic does; by filtering the magic through something else you are changing it from a form more susceptible to Chaos to something more predictable and stable.
Runes are a far stabler thing of course since it basically just locks the magic into a permanent shape with no variation, but ice magic "filters" it through ley lines in Kislev itself.
It's still basically altering reality to make it do what you want, but it's two steps removed from pure Chaos instead of just one step like regular sorcery is.

The Bruner omnibus.

Genevieve Undead, but specifically Drachenfels (for history value) and Beasts in Velvet (for actual quality).

The Ulrika omnibus, but mostly just the first and maybe the second novel.

The Malus Darkblade omnibus.

The Elves pushed the greenskins out, according to the Elves Grom died in the waves because he was too fat to swim, according to greenskins and some Elves he escaped to the Anulii mountains which contain portals to the Warp and supreme magical power to return and lead another WAAAGH someday.

Eltharion burned the spores off Ulthuan and gave all other Elves the middle finger for not helping him, then went to the Old World to wipe out all greenskins. He saved fucktons of Dwarfs by liberating Holds and destroying thousand year old WAAAGHs, then realized greenskins will take forever to kill and sent a message for all of them to come to Yvressse for a final showdown, and they are obliging him.

In End Times it was revealed Grom really is dead, Eltharion who is known for refusing to help anyone else tries to save Aliathra for some reason and dies, returns as a ghost to give his gear to his niece and nephew then Malekith kills them. The end.

Fuck End Times.

he gave up because he found out that Greenskins from all over the world were pouring to fight him, since he was so badass and put up so much of a fight

>Krell was originally killed by Dwarfs way before Sigmar was born

No, that's how his idea of letting the seas take care of most of them came about.

The fact he could kill and kill and kill and more would just show up like he did nothing is why he stopped.

Wait, was that his first death? I've lost track of how many times that cunt has died. Even fucking Gotrek couldn't make him die and stay dead.

Wight's retain their individuality, even if their bound to their lords. According to the Roleplaying game's bestiary, and Total War Warhammer.

>And China
Chinese atheists are anything but. Sure they aren't Christians or Muslims, and they profess to be atheists rather than Buddhists or Taoists, but then they turn around and make sure that their beds are aligned North to South and that they sleep in a room with an East facing window to keep their humors balanced and talk about how they strive to keep their dead ancestors proud. And it's not just one, I've know a dozen or so of these "atheists" and all of them cling to these old superstitions "just in case" or because their grandmother's fortune telling advised danger if they didn't feng shui their living room.

I've heard more spiritual mumbo-jumbo come out of the mouth of a Chinese "atheist" than all the Christians and Muslims I've known put together.

The good job is that the chink won't suddenly start durking to Allah and blow up a children's concert or put your kid in a reeducation camp for sucking dick like the other two will.

Atheism is the rejection of belief that any deities exist.

Atheism =/= lack of belief in the supernatural

So you could be an atheist and still ancestor worship/ venerate

I hate agnostic religious people.
