Do we got the Total War novels in the mega archive?

Fun fact, that Norscan didn't die of injury, but all the blood rushed to his penis into a mega erection upon seeing Katarina. He died of being unconcious in the snow in a battle.

You know, you have a point there even if you're joking - there's no blood splatter, no hint of crimson on the blade. She must have done some sort of ice attack if not a physical one.

Too bad they probably won't include her in Total Warhammer - they have a unique voice for Kislev on the diplomacy panel already.

Are you sure? I mean, I know it's not set in stone and voice lines can be changed out, but it still feels like a waste. I kind of like listening to an angry Russian man go on about cold Kislev winters (I haven't played a game yet where there's been positive interaction or an alliance with Kislev).

So does Norsca DLC mean that Kislev/Tilea/Estalia/Border Prince DLC is no longer out of the realm of possibility? Think they'll even go as far Araby when they get around to Tomb Kangz?

Kislev is massively in demand. It had a full army in Warmaster and IIRC in regular Warhammer and the devs actually had to say 'no, it's not Kislev' officially before revealing Norsca, since people wouldn't stop asking.
>>
>>54598778
Apparently they had to announce that the norsca DLC was NOT kislev so they're aware there's a sizable amount of demand.
As for border princes/estalia/tilea, the real question there is if there's an army list worth caring about there
>>
>>54598809
There's also multiple mods that add in kislev as it's own unique faction. Other than brettonnia, I can't think of anyone else having such mods

It probably doesn't hurt that, not only did Kislev have its own model range, but unlike Araby there are a lot of things already in the game that work well for slapping together Kislev-like models already - most of the Empire units look close enough, and you take the hats off of some of the Goblins and add some other bits from Bretonnia and call it good.

The guy who said he had a WFRP game starting tonight unlisted his thing on Roll20. I'm thinking of just saying Fuck It and starting my own and seeing if one of the recruits wants to GM.

For the anons here -- I'll say that I generally prefer campaigns out of the book (with some of the necessary modifications that happen in an RPG). Prior, I've run The Enemy Within, a first edition campaign, which I modified for second edition, and it was fantastic. If anyone wanted to do that, all the better.

I'm also looking for 2e, something that works with East Coast US time, and weekends, preferably, though I can probably do weekday evenings.

I usually try to take roleplaying seriously and know a lot about the world (as I'm sure all of you do).
>>
>>54598926
Didn't Araby have some models for Warmaster, and I think Man'O War? They also had a model in Dreadfleet. Which is more than what Cathay, Nippon, Ind, and Khuresh have gotten.

Actually, Fimir present an interesting experiment.

They're monsters of rape...but matriarchal, not overtly racist in any way, and tumblr fucking loves them sum cyclops.

Oh yeah, they had all that. It'd be just a lot harder to mod them in with what's in Total Warhammer now. Maybe take the Men-at-Arms robes, color them black, give them some two-handed swords...I don't know. But right now there isn't even a place for them in the game.

Technically Nippon did get an Ogre. Well, an Ogre Maneater dressed like a samurai, but it was something. And Cathay got a kitbashed army featured in White Dwarf.
>>
>>54599553
Nippon did have a model range, but just for the early lore-light skirmish RPG days of Warhammer and for Warhammer RPG after that.

The old Citadel range is actually ridiculously expansive in ways most people wouldn't guess at. Like pic related, a non-Chaos ordinary circus.

If you considered each of these to be faction...

All I can guess is that they don't want anything getting fucked up if they chose to have an expansion or add a new faction, since a lot of that stuff just gets stuck right into the game as it is, far as I'm aware.

Or maybe they're afraid of what the modding community can do, and if they can't retain some official control there will be modders doing the equivalent of whole expansions that they think will take away business from them. Pretty sure it's just some business decision though.
>>
>>54599872
Maybe it's a GW stipulation? Like how I heard naval battles won't be expanded because GW doesn't want TW to conflict with Man'O War.

I'd really do wonder what the GW take on India, China, Indochina, and Japan would've been like. But then again, maybe one reason they chose not to was because they weren't intimately familiar with those regions history and culture to do something interesting with it like they were able to combine Tolkien and Moorcock with the real life cultures they had chances to learn about (Norse, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Celtic, Slavic, French, German, etc)
>>
>>54600351
Something more than racist pygmy tribes and junk from proto-Warhammer I hope.
>>
>>54599727
To get ultra heretical I just headcanon (see: fanfiction) that some chaos boys from the north attacked Cathay and were driven east were they met a small colony of elves they proceeded to rape. And that's how the nobles were born.
As the years wore on the elves in between being slaves and used for r34 slowly weaned the men out of full chaos worship, which since most of them only did out of convenience it only took a couple generations, and then made them worship a bunch of random fucking things (yes human, that rock is a spirit. Everything has a soul!).
Parts of their former religion is still in the culture, such as red being the color of war, green of pestilence, blue for guile, and violet for the courtesans.
Since only the female elves weren't butchered and eaten they became the shrine maidens and all the noble houses can claim descent from them and swear loyalty to them and their gods.
The elves themselves don't want to see any other elves because the fact they were used for various ducked up hentai with humans is still a sore point.
They're a full empire with clans in constant competition for the grace of their spirit mother.
>>
>>54600155
So I take it his getting kicked in the ass by Tzeench is canon?
>>
>>54600394
I mean it was racist because it was a shallow interpretation of the culture it was based on right? And that's boring. So maybe they phased them out not just because of the racist aspects, but because it lead to something that was not particularly interesting. And that's why they never expanded upon what happened east past Ogre Kingdom's because of that. Warhammer was made by British nerds in the 80s, which meant they would've been more likely to have exposure to not just the various Western European mythology and folklore to draw upon, but also a good amount of Egyptian and Mesopotamian, and the Huns and various other Turkic invaders Europe had to deal with. How many of them would've had exposure to Oriental mythologies that they could add them to the Moorcock/Tolkien/Historical Fantasy mixing pot that Warhammer? Probably not many.

And I guess it did work from a narrative point of view, because it really does make the world seem bigger to not really have a clear picture of what goes on in Cathay, Ind, Nippon, and Khuresh.

How would a Vampire Count bloodline inspired by the Pillar Men be like?

What would their background be? And how would you explain their powers in a way that does not go too much against the general fluff of the Vampire Counts and the setting itself?
>>
>>54601012
>How would a Vampire Count bloodline inspired by the Pillar Men be like?
I don't know anything about Jojo, so I'm going off their wiki.

The body-manipulation power is something that some Vampire Counts can do already, just make shapeshifting a more common Bloodline trait and represent it with constant Regeneration and the ability to take one upgrade like Flying or whatever for free.
Advanced Intelligence, just give them a roll to dispel a miscast.
Absorption would probably just improve their ability to regain a Wound after dealing damage, say that they get back one Wound at the end of very turn they are in base contact with an enemy.
"Elemental Battle Mode" is just magic and doesn't need its own rules.
"Ultimate Being" is more of a magic item than an innate power.

To balance that they become a more expensive Bloodline to be.

>What would their background be?
They came from the Americas. Its suspected based on cocaine found in ancient mummies as well as coins discovered on top of the basic idea of pyramid designs that Egyptians somehow had contact with South America. Given the real life connection between Egypt and China is why Neferata is tied to Cathay, just say that Nehekhara was raiding the coastlines of Lustria before their fall and after the vampirism she sent one of the first vampires to there to establish a permanent colony.

>And how would you explain their powers in a way that does not go too much against the general fluff of the Vampire Counts and the setting itself?
They found some Old One shit and altered themselves, then made a Bloodline using Norscan colonists. Dwarfs mostly wiped them out so there's only a few left.

Jojo Pillar Men made the Stone Masks originally to try and become the ultimate beings and go past their vulnerability to sunlight and Hamon. Unable to do so without a greater power source, however, they found that it made vampires, lesser beings of their own nature. Pillar Men are unique in that they're the top predators in the vampiric food chain and they feed on the vampires. They have decent shapeshifting abilities similar to other vampires but they can absorb a being not powered by Hamon with a mere touch.
>>
>>54601171
Interesting, so I assume they battled with the Dwarfs of Karak Zorn?

I imagine that they may have also had some interactions with the Vampire Coast (if those guys were around at that time), and maybe the remnants of their Bloodline could make an appearance in a campaign set in Lustria where the plot involves exploring and discovering what happened to Karak Zorn.
>>
>>54601335
Can't think of any way to make that work without shitting on lore.

Dark Elves invented Dark Magic, in older continuity because Slaanesh taught them and otherwise because they're assholes.

Nagash learned Dark Magic, then created Necromancy.

Neferata learned Necromancy, then with Arkhan's help created Vampirism.

That's a direct chain of events where nothing can be inserted.

Now you can say that they were possibly inspired by Abhorash curing his Vampiric weaknesses by being some of the first Blood Dragons, or were maybe inspired by hearing of the Blood Dragons. But you can't make them the first of anything but another Bloodline from one of Neferata's court without stepping on lore and cutting in.

Then again, Rick Priestley said the only canon is your own so do what you feel you want.

Oh no, i'm not saying change anything, i'm just detailing jojo just because you'll see it a decent amount around here.
>>
>>54601412
That's an idea.

Maybe they end up the third faction fighting for control in the Southlands. Maybe all three want the same thing, some kind of mystical giant golden McGuffin from the Old Ones.

Warhammer ties into real world history/modern events and literary/pop culture work best, and Johannesburg in real life South Africa was founded specifically because of a gold rush in the 1880's. Maybe you can tie that in alongside Jojo?

I still want someone to make a Brexit/King Lear story.

Why do you think that Witch Hunters of WFB aren't as popular as the Inquisitors of 40k?
>>
>>54601847
40k got vidya, and they got a meme character in the form of The Redeemer as well as the wonderfully mematic HERESYBLAM and EXTERMINATUS which was posted just about everywhere for quite a while.
I don't say meme in a bad way mind you, rather things that become popular through mematic expression across mediums to the point that people unaware of the source are aware of the meme, and people discovering the source are thus more likely to give it a chance.

So since the 40k setting was more popular via widespread social media, the 40k meme faction became more popular.

Had some form of Vermintide come out around 2005 maybe the Witch Hunters would be more popular. Or maybe if The Redeemer was in a series of Mordheim comics instead of Necromunda ones. Or if Exterminatus referred to a village being torched instead. Or if Greatswords killing furfags had been shitspammed during the golden age of /b/ instead of Space Marines.

This is a very late game quest, probably in their third career or so. I reason that Volkmar doesn't spend all his time at the cathedral or even in the Emperor's court (who is deathly ill in our timeline), but wooing other men's wives and breaking the hearts of young girls all over Altdorf. Ideally they shouldn't kill him, but convince him that something is terribly wrong with him and try to exorcise the daemon within him.

Although they could use it to their advantage as my group tends to pick a patron for their characters and dutifully takes part in the religious power-gaps of the Empire, specifically between Sigmar and Ulric.

they could probably just find and support someone high ranking enough to try to take him out
>>
>>54602275
I've taken that into account. While his behaviour isn't exactly saintly, he's the 'hammer' of Chaos. He may be an adulterer, but his success in rooting out cults, leading troops in battle and stifling civil unrest speaks for itself. He's just too popular to replace. There may be elements that want a return to the Esmer way of things, but it just wouldn't fly unless they knew what was really wrong with him. Basically it isn't what you know, it's what you can prove, and at that point nobody can prove anything that would deter him from his holy mission.

As far as I know there are no rules that prevent Sigmarite priests from taking wives and having children, even out of wedlock, at least in the WFRP books unless I missed it. I adhere to the Black Plague trilogy idea that Sigmar's priesthood don't have families because it can give an enemy power over them. Volkmar bedding thirsty Altdorf women doesn't break the rules, if only because of a technicality.

Just re-reading through Realm of Sorcery 2ed and I realised a few things that had never really leapt out at me before:

>Magisters don't actually own anything. Each Order is functionally it's own barony that the Magister serves and to whom all their worldly possessions belong.
>Wizards that you can play as in WFRP - even the high end guys - are not even close to being on the same level as guys you'd see in WFB. And that's intentional. They're a different order of mage that you can't even level up as.
>>
>>54603346
The first line I tend to agree with. The second one, not so much.

Realm of Sorcery flat out spells it out. Battle Wizards are stronger than the wizards you can play as, and they don't include a career for it.

Makes sense though - none of the spells you can learn are really 'army' level. They also specify that Battle Wizards tend to have a short lifespan.
>>
>>54599859
I hope they include Finubar as one of the High Elves remaining LL's alongside the queen.

His leader bonuses would be havily economic and other based around running the kingdom instead of for battle, also he would have an oh so slight reputation bonus with the dorfs.

Well the fact they consume other vampires would have to be included.
Also their many body-modification abilities are a side-effect of trying to surpass normal vampire limits and become truly 'perfect' beings.

>Phoenix Scepter
>+1S, ArP(1), Flaming Attacks

>can ride a barded elven steed or a chariot

>Glory of Ulthuan
>Radius of Finubar's Inspiring Presence and his Battle Standard Bearer's Hold Your Ground! are increased by 6".

>Colours of Ulthuan
>If units Finubar and his BSB can have a standard bearers, those Standard Bearers may purchase magical banners (50 pts per unit max)

>Calm Ruler
>Calming political influence Finubar exerts on the nations of the world is felt even on the battlefield. Enemy units within 18" of Finubar lose Frenzy and may not gain Frenzy as long as they remain within 18" of him.
>In addition, enemy Dwarfs count as having rolled 1 on Ancestral Grudge table. No unit in Finubar's army may take Beard Banner.

>King's Retinue
>As long as there are any White Lions, White Lion Chariot or Korhil models within 6" or in the same unit as Finubar, no wounds can be allocated to Finubar. Instead, wounds are allocated to White Lion models. They gain 6+ Regeneration save against them, as they refuse to fail their sacred charge to protect their king.

Witch hunters weren't really a thing in fantasy until recently, and then it was just the inquisitor/heresy! mindset transplanted from 40k, which doesnt really work for the setting.

Inquisitors work in 40k because they can wipe out a planet just to be sure and no one bats an eye because the empireum is so vast it doesn't matter.

Yes, but a witch hunter is just a specialized servant to the empire who knows how to fight that shit, versus inquisitors wiping out a whole planet because they rediscovered 8 spoked wheels. They work on an adventuring level, but not on a "I have my own private army and no one will give a shit if I wipe out a whole city." Its the difference between van helsing and Frolo if Frolo had raped the girl and burned down Paris and for him it was Tuesday.

A story about an inquisitor is inevitably about the power he wields and/or his fall from grace, while a which hunter's story is inevitably about the monster he's hunting. That or he's so shit at his job he's killing innocents in a world where better-safe-than-sorry isn't justification for wholesale slaughter.

> [...] but for making a Slaaneshi warband, what would be a good substitute for Chaos Warriors? [...]

You could base them on a box of Kairic Acolytes if you want to go the fabulous beefcake-route. All you'd really need to change would be to give them new heads and perhaps slaneeshi-themed shields.
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Kairic-Acolytes

Depending on the theme of your army, basing your warriors on Empire Greatswords might look really good. I could certainly see how an Empire Lord and his retinue could fall into Slaaneshi worship.
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Empire-Greatswords
This little fella' here would make a great leader for an imperial Slaanesh-unit. The whole model just screams pompousness.
http://www.avatars-of-war.com/eng/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&prodcode=63&prodname=Imperial+Marshal+with+shield&id=118&Itemid=53

If you want something a bit more bdsm-loving-that-leather-look then I'd suggest checking out AoW's barbarian-unit: http://www.avatars-of-war.com/eng/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&prodcode=pl12&prodname=Barbarians+with+shields&id=118&Itemid=53

A more elegantly uniform idea would be to make your warriors out of Delves' Black Guards. I would presume that they would look great with Warriors of Chaos helmets.
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Dark-Elves-Black-Guard-of-Naggarond

If you want a more feral, dionysian theme then I think that Bestigors would fit the bill, particularly if you added some Slaaneshi icons and a barrel or two of wine to the unit.

This was one of many 'greater picture' background details in my last game, and still technically is in this one. The Cult of Sigmar is in a crisis due to Volkmar's strange and miraculous return, and some disturbing details despite his apparent immunity to the Jade Griffin. Some of these elements are genuinely people who are afraid he's fucky and tainted, but others are just corrupt or less militant Sigmarites who want Volkmar to go and stay gone, prefering exiled Esmer's rule. With Valten dead at a murderer's hands, Volkmar's administration is also on unsteady ground, since he gets proxied into arguments over Valten's divinity - some argue that, if he WAS the incarnation of Sigmar, it should have been impossible to kill him (in our game, he actually defeated Archaon, albeit while being nearly mortally wounded).

For his part, Esmer is being given the evil eye since it's been alleged that it was his Church-in-exile that had Valten murdered, an accusation he denies. And after all, torture someone enough and they'll say anything. Esmer for his part is furious at an attempted assassination on HIS person by - he alleges - the Cult in the Empire. Seeing as Sigmar is still a very popular god in Marienburg, it has people there riled, as they see the Empire as meddling in their and religious affairs.

The powers that be in Marienburg are presently very much regretting giving Esmer sanctuary, but right now they can't afford to kick him out and look weak. The elves are a dubious defensive quantity just now, what with another chapter in their civil war calling most of their forces to battle. They're acting tough and aloof and praying that Karl-Franz is sane and canny enough to keep from being forced into a revenge war or trying to absorb Marienburg for pure profit.
>>
>>54602862
>>54602918

Some of the powers detailed in Night's Dark Masters for vampires, especially unaligned ones, are heavily themed around vermin. The bloodline in Araby, while never officially published, would have literally crawled with flesh-eating and blood-sucking insect life.

AENARION72dpik.jpg

Imagine if you will that when Aenarion took up the Sword of Khaine, he wasn't damned to die by it. Imagine if Khaine had said "You know what, you're doing good, you can live", and Aenarion continued his warpath on Chaos.

Now, 7th ed explicitly says daemon and god alike were trembling at the face of Aenarion's wrath. When he fights the most powerful daemon in existence, Khorne's Bloodthirster, it's said the Bloodthirster didn't stand a chance again Khaine's blade and gets cloven in two.

7th ed tells us that Aenarion is not to be fucked with, and that the Dark Gods themselves were nervous about him. After all, even before his rage on the Greater Daemons it was said that with Khaine's sword he was killing thousands upon thousands of other daemons singlehandedly. Well, with his dragon pal.

Aenarion is one of the most proficient fuckers-over of Chaos in history, and one of the only mortals (even if he had the help of two Elven gods) they've been scared of. Alright, that's established.

So now picture, if you will, Aenarion continues. He's got the power of Asuryan and Khaine with him, and he survives the curse. He lives, and he goes all the way north. Not even just north, no, he goes into the realm of Chaos itself.

I don't believe that any of the Dark Gods would want to challenge him one-to-one.

Except Khorne.

So now, at the end of all things, Aenarion, burning with the flame of Asuryan and brandishing the god-killing sword of Khorne's own (speculative) brother, duels the God of Blood himself at the Brass Citadel.

Even if Khorne was among those worried by Aenarion, he wouldn't dare refuse the challenge.

How would it go? Who would win between the greatest warrior in Fantasy's history and the strongest of all the Dark Gods?
>>

>>
>>54609043
*stand a chance against

Anyway, my idea is

Aenarion loses, but it'll go very similar to the duel of Morgoth and Fingolfin in the Tolkien legendarium. Khorne will be far more powerful overall, but Aenarion will be full of righteous rage and speed. He'll wound Khorne multiple times, fill the skulls of the Skull Throne with the Dark God's blood, but he will tire out, Khaine's damnation will kick in, and to preserve the balance of Chaos and its enemies, he won't be allowed to win. Khorne will strike him down, but only after Aenarion leaves one last grievous wound on the Blood God that sends his howls of pain echoing throughout the world.

The daemons will not boast nor brag of that duel, and the permanently-scarred Khorne will become incensed whenever it is mentioned, slaying follower and enemy alike should they bring it up.

In a mano y mano showdown I think he could probably defeat Slaanesh and Nurgle. Tzeentch would do some magic shit or make Aenarion go ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN, and Khorne would probably end in the way >>54609081 is described.

Aenarion was literally a super saiyan that beat the shit out of daemons with his bare hands and skullfucked them afterwards, but gods aren't entities that you can kill. Perhaps, but the only way to truly defeat the Chaos Gods, or any god, would be to kill everybody. If Nagash ruled over a dead world where nothing changes, nobody feels, they'd have nothing empowering them. No war, no ambition, no fear of death, no excessive behaviour. It's just how deities work in the setting.

for the best results I'd recommend finding skullreapers torsos, liberators legs and one pauldron and make heads and weapons from the hellstriders

for shields either the hellstriders or the curcular ones for stormcasts that get sold separately, filing off the symbol on it if needed.

>Gav: Regarding Archaon and spawn, it’s time for me to wheel out a well-worn rant! People need to stop attributing human notions of success and failure to the Chaos Gods. Players have focussed on a very specific rules incident that’s been around a while – a fleeing Champion gets turned into a Spawn – and created an entirely warped (ha ha!) idea around what the Chaos Gods think of mortals. A Spawn is a Champion that has been given too many gifts! It is not a punishment… Archaon in particular has survived a long time without any significant mutation at all, and for all we know the Chaos Gods don’t really care about him one way or another.

It's possible that, gasp, GW did it to make more money.

Fantasy's gods are weaker, have different origins, and different personalities from their counterparts in 40k. They don't blend well.

GW could come out and say the universes are connected and I can't argue and can't believe anything else, but I'd still believe otherwise, because I like Fantasy and I like 40k, but I do not like Fantasy with 40k.

As optional as anything else in the lore like the Or(c/ks) being green. The Chaos Gods origins were never discussed in detail in fantasy when 40K came into the picture. They just came as the portals exploded.

If you want to ignore stuff and form your own headcanon, then stick to your corner. You don't get to lecture us about the setting's history and what was dropped or not. Leave the talking to the actual scholars and loremasters of warhammer.

Here's a theory I've thought of: Hashut is actually an amalgamation of dragon souls twisted by Chaos and surviving by the worship of Chaos Dwarves.

The Chaos Dwarves live very close to the Plain of Bones, where the dragons used to fly to die. But with the Coming of Chaos, some of the bones were reanimated as undead dragons. What if some souls were also roused from their rest, tainted by Chaos and at risk of losing themselves to the Warp? When the ancestors of the Chaos Dwarves called for help, they could have easily been answered by the soul of a dragon or group of dragons, who demanded worship and sacrifice in order to keep themselves tied to the mortal plane.

It explains why Hashut is considered a Chaos god, if these souls were twisted by Chaos as much as the Chaos Dwarves were. It explains why he's so strongly associated with fire and greed, things dragons are known for. The only thing it doesn't explain is all the bull imagery, and that could just be the souls losing their identity over time or something.

Not convinced

If chaos went into the world after these dragons have died, their spirit had plenty of time to find rest or ascend or whatever dragon souls do. As far as i know, chaos cannot corrupt something that already reached peace beyond the scope of mortality.

I do like the idea of a spirit that got corrupted and turned into a demon.
That, or Hashut actually came from the moon, like moonclaw, but was a much more powerful entity

Chaos really are the most boring part of the setting.
>>
>>54610466
Okay, you got me curious, why are they talking about undead in what I assume is a seminary about physics?
>>

Too bad somewhere along the line it became chaos=destruction
Which not only it's boring as shit, it's also completely ASININE
>>
>>54610495
That is a flaw in the idea, but there could have been dragons or a group of dragons that only recently died, or maybe the Plain of Bones was the equivalent of a Garden of Morr for the dragons, where their souls were free to rest. It's not really talked about if they have a proper afterlife.

Chaos is entropy. Everything changing and breaking down. Chaos will consume everything.

The Undead are the opposite. They are stasis. The Undead will create an unchanging universe that's sterile and boring.

>how do you figure that?

>assumption that chaos being itself is a victory for it
chaos naturally has no agenda, it can't claim nor desire a victory not even the purposeful perpetuation of itself or it wouldn't spawn its own limits
>implication that chaos is a destructive entity for the world, not just one of change
whatever doom he's talking about is subjectively considered as such
>says that something spawned by chaos is the opposite of chaos
nothing can be the opposite of chaos, literally
>call a paradox what's not a paradox

it reads as an autist's middle school project where he hamfisted the piece of fiction he's obsessed with thinking it would somehow be intelligent, interesting or cool.

>>
>>54611546
The two are interlinked.
No, Chaos is not a 100% accurate version of real chaos, it's a Fantasy army of evil monsters, inspired in part by the various concepts of chaos.
>>
>>54611231
This is the later concept dredged up by idiot add-ons who had no idea how to handle "Chaos" and come up with shit like the spiritual liege. It is to be ignored with extreme prejudice.

If the universe is annihilated, where will Khorne find his blood-drenched battlefields? Where will Nurgle find bodies fertile for his diseases? Where will Slaanesh find vibrant, cavorting, and oh-so-willing fools to indulge in his excess? Where will Tzeentch find the ambitious and the scheming; the traitors to do his bidding?

The Chaos Gods grow in power the more their central concepts are indulged in. Nurgle shouldn't want the destruction of the universe. He should want population-rich human farms which he can infect.
>>

Chaos can feed on itself.

Warhammer Fantasy is at the heart of it about a real world - people are living their lives, having recognizable problems and stresses, and then there's supernatural forces on top of it. 40k is hard to get invested in unless someone actually drags you down onto one of the millions of planets and spins you a story, and even then it never matters if someone wins or loses in the end.
>>
>>54611846
40k is too far on the "no hope" side, which kills the enjoyment. In Fantasy, it's actually possible for the good guys to win.

Well, it was.

I find that the lore past 6th ed or so started to make things a little too 40k-like derpy. Stuff like the Brets going full bore "worst feudal overlords" stereotypes, etc.

For me it's because of the scale. You can blow up entire star systems in 40k and it doesn't have any impact, but Chaos or undead or greenskins advancing into the Old World is a pretty big deal. It's a struggle you can believe.
>>
>>54611895
>40k is too far on the "no hope" side, which kills the enjoyment. In Fantasy, it's actually possible for the good guys to win.

It was actually the opposite.
Fantasy had Chaos being destined to win.
40k had hope that it could be defeated.
>>
>>54611927
That was the intent with Storm of Chaos and onward, yeah. Not necessarily before that.
>>
>>54611846
the main difference I see is that the factions are not as isolated and hostile to each other as 40k

also, way less superhumans
>>
>>54609043
>How would it go? Who would win between the greatest warrior in Fantasy's history and the strongest of all the Dark Gods?

Who, you mean Grimnir? He was still trying to stem the tide of infinite daemons to get to the Chaos Gods and kill them.
>>
>>54611948
Nope, before that Chaos was very specifically destined to win.
In 40k the Imperium had a chance to defeat Chaos.
>>
>>54611988
Go away Carnac; Chaoswankery killed the setting.
>>
>>54612024
I'm not Carnac and I'm not wanking Chaos.
I'm telling you simply that if you believe that Chaos inevitably winning started with Storm of Chaos you're wrong and don't know the setting as well as you think you do.
>>
>>54610529
>>54608361
>>
>>54611881
It doesn't really matter all that much in warhammer fantasy either though. Considering the gods that are running around there really isn't a chance to win.
>>
Who are the top 5 melee lords/duelists of Warhammer? (Mounts and magic not allowed, magic weapons are fine)
>>
>>54612656
Sure, all you can do is resist the darkness and hope you can hold it off from overwhelming you, not defeat it. But the world is real enough we can actually care when characters fail, because there's some weight to what happens, even if it's only in terms of vague towns sacked or people killed.
