Is it time to have add a section for alternative rulesets like we have miniatures? I think most people don't see T9A as the spiritual successor to Fantasy anymore.

Not a bad idea, but think of how many alternative rulesets there could be. Easier to let people keep track of them themselves, and applaud when people post stories of their games here no matter the system.

>>54543231
Hard to say - most elves seem to be pale, but sometimes Wood Elves tend towards the tan side. If nothing else you might argue some of the High Elf colonies at the southern tip of the Southlands and Lustria might have some darker-skinned elves, sort of like how Karak Zorn might have dark-skinned dwarves, but that's a big maybe. GW tends to just avoid depictions of other races for reasons.

Lady of grace and beauty, I set down my lance, symbol of duty, upon your shrine. I spurn those whom I love. I relinquish all, and take upon the tools of my journey. No obstacle will stand before me. No plea for help shall find me wanting. No moon will look upon me twice lest I be judged idle. I give my body, heart and soul to you, oh Lady, and I shall seek wherever thou might be found. Which edition?
I made this cheat sheet for 2nd edition. It's a bit shitty, but it does the job.

Otherwise, when planning adventures I suggest keeping the characters' careers in mind. There should be opportunities for the characters to do their actual jobs occasionally and maybe be the star of the show for a bit when their speciality comes up.
Also make sure you give the players access to the facilities they need to carry on their career progression. Whether that means a mentor that can teach them, invitation to a certain guild or access to tools.
You can kill two birds with one stone by inserting possible mentors into adventures as friendly NPCs.

So what sort of defenses besides traps and cultists might we expect a Cult of Khaine in the Old Wolrd to have on their lair? Let's assume they have their shit together relatively well, maybe even an actual bona fide magical artifact an elven worshiper lost, or something similar. Don't druchii Khaine worshipers raise spirits and even corpses to fight temporarily on their behalf?

2nd Edition, so this cheat sheet helps.

>>54545053

I've got four players with two characters made so far.

One is an Altdorf born Bounty Hunter who wishes he hadn't chosen bounty hunting as a career, and is incredibly suspicious of people from Middenheim

And a Middenheim-born squire from Middenheim with no preference to sex with a peculiar understanding of how to speak with nobles, as well as a knack for mimicry.

Previously, I've had ideas of having a campaign be around either Middenheim or Nordland, where the players primarily deal with Greenskins, Beastmen, Wood Elves, Marienburgers/Wastelanders, Norscans, and the respective residents of whatever territory it may take place it.

I had no plans for a grand final boss initially, as I'd rather come up with a main antagonist as my players are questing, so I can see what they're interested in facing or doing.

What the campaign will really be dealing with will also depend on the next two characters my players get, so I can get a better idea on what to do with them.

I like the idea that Karak Zorn holds the truth on the origins of the Dwarf Species as an uplifted race and if the dwarfs rediscovered the hold it would cause a religious schism.
>>
>>54547132
It wasn't just the isolation, it was the fact that Chaos was doing some fucked up shit to the world, and the Ancestor gods weren't answering and Hashut did - they went over to him to save themselves, not just because he happened to be there and making an offer.

That would be because they're absurdly powerful. Working as intended.

That said, as a DM that used a powerful vampire as a foe, the lack of Fate points is a huge Achilles heel, especially since it also means no Fortune points.

So I'm currently working on a Norsca army book for 6th Edition, based on the TW:W roster, and I'm onto the Bestiary. I'm a little stuck on the subject of Chaos Marks; at the moment, only combat Lords/Heroes, the elite Marauder unit and Skin Wolves are able to take them.

The rationale is it'd helped make the book distinct from the Hordes of Chaos list, which would represent more northern and corrupted tribes. Do you think all Marauder stuff should be able to have them instead, like in Hordes? What about Shamans/Seers - I wanted to give them their own lore, but should they have the option for Marks and the Chaos Lores too?

Hordes of chaos already are the option for chaos aligned marauders.

If your really want to undergo the futile attempt to make an homebrew faction, make Norsca a faction not allied with chaos and more on a grey area.
Have them be followers of a cult of ancestors mixed with ulric and taal worship and indirect chaos worship.

They can only take the chaos unaligned mark, their wizards have access to the lore of beasts and lore of chaos. Their priests have some spells similar to those used by priests of ulric (if there are any, maybe you can find something in storm of chaos content)

Evil people can do good things and stil be evil. Just like good people can do evil things and still be good. Morality is subjective to the viewer. The closest you'll ever get to a concise and logical morality system is the one you make up for yourself - and you'll still find holes in it.

I had an idea for a pair of travelers to be encountered in Warhammer, an older wandering Morr priest and his bodyguard taking the form of a big strapping lad in dark robes wielding a war scythe enchanted with abilities to better cut down undread and return them to their proper rest.
Originally was the idea for the bodyguard having an actual scythe like that but it seems a bit too much, what do you think?

2nd edition is best, but there's nothing like D&D. 3rd is higher power, but it's s terrible system requiring proprietary dice and cards; it's basically just a bad board game rather than an RPG.

As for quick and fun modules, A Brutal Finish from the end of the Realms of Sorcery splat comes recommended.

I usually field one or two units of them in the sizes of 5-6 minis but

Gut reaction is that the 'wandering pair' duo is done to death. Change it to a small caravan of Morr priests, initiates and devotees who travel the Empire going from village to village - visiting homesteads that don't have a resident priest. They go around burying the dead, tending to graves and dealing with the undead as they pop up.

Your players could encounter them gypsy style, camped out in a graveyard, re-engraving worn headstones and getting their drink on.

Extremely poor! Tileans and Estalian are famously at each others' throats over issues on...everything, from wine tastes to navy quality to art to who Myrmidia was originally from. Speaking the 'wrong' language may be acceptable in major ports and cities, where trade rules over all, though certainly it wouldn't be smart in rougher areas. In rural areas, you might be beaten, run out of the village, or yes, even murdered (Arabyans can expect similar). Even if you're from neither, answering a question in the 'wrong' way is a major faux past and may provoke a brawl.
>>
>>54553331
Yes, and it's a much stronger feed and high. This happens in the Ulrika novels, in fact, and is apparently also ho vampires have sex (back and forth feeding) and muddy their bloodlines (same).
>>
>>54553377

This is good to know, our group is heading to Estalia and no one speaks the language, closest is Tilean but if you have common knowledge Tilea you probably should know Tilea and Estalia don't get along and would probably incite trouble if vice versa were spoken in as said rougher areas.

Definitely makes sense to me. Of course, you may want them to make the check (with adjusted difficulty to taste) to recall this particular fact if none of them are actually Tileans or have known an actual Tilean or Estalian for very long (because if you have, you'll hear about their dislike for the other).
>>
>>54553437
Yes, apparently. They'll fuck and feed simultaneously too. They don't have to to get their high, though, and a bite high is apparently fierce even for the victim (particularly from lahmians).

I've been playing around with the idea since last week, mainly as an idea to give the CD more options to interact with the other armies, as well as doing the same for Bretonnia and Araby.

Instead of being 100% based on Babylonian & Persian culture, the Southern Chaos Dwarfs would have more traits from African cultures, like the Songhai, Mali, Ethiopia and the Masai (well, only for the cattle culture for the last one). The tall hats covered by turbans, robes instead of long coats. Their capital could be Karak Zorn, and they'd have an underground empire with a couple of citadels that go all the way to the mountain range in Araby (no idea what the name of that range is, only that it's like the Atlas mountains).

Instead of Lammasu, their bull centaurs would resemble the catoblepas, which were said to live south of Ethiopia. I had searched for any kind of flying bull monster in African mythos, but no luck so far. Maybe the catoplebas would have different special rules, or not. They would still worship Hastut, but with their own regional twist, like how the Southland Lizardmen are different from the main group in Lustria.

Instead of Hobgoblins, they could field locals as slaves, such as Arabyan grave robbers or janissaries, Pygmies or even Skinks and the undead. The last two might be stretching it, and I don't know if minor necromancers could be free from Nagash's influence so close to Kemrhi.

Also found out about an African vampire called the asanbosam, with iron hooks for feet. Could be forest ambush unit.

Warhammer used to have small two-player campaigns back in the older editions. Each used different factions amd had a story that fit not into the present, but the past.

My challenge to you is...create some ideas for campaigns for the factions that did not end up with one.

These are Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, Beastmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Chaos Dwarfs, Daemons, Kislev, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Ogre Kingdoms, Dogs Of War, Amazons.

The ones already covered and should be avoided if possible are
>Dwarfs, High Elves (Grudge Of Drong)
>Orcs & Goblins, Empire/Border Princes (Idol Of Gork)
>Vampire Counts, Bretonnia (Circle Of Blood)
>Albion (Tragedy Of McDeath)

Each scenario consists of 3-5 smaller battles over a certain objective, and the conditions of the final battle are affected by which player won the preceding battles.

>Would a vampire trying to feed off of a Grail Knight explode?

Grail Knights throb with divine energy, so it's likely that the vampire wouldn't try. If they had the weakness to holy things that very many vampires do, it would probably be as if he drank burning cesium.

Vampires HAVE been noted to feed on Chaos champions, though, and they count as 'holy' too. It doesn't seem to be common or safe, though; when Ulrika feed on a Chaos shitter, it nauseated her and caused auditory hallucinations.
>>
>>54554059
Karak Zorn as alway be hyped as "Mythical Lost hold who remember the treasure of the golden age that have been lost by other Hold" tough, they would have resisted the corruption. The Dawi-Zar only bowed to Hashut because they where dying, starving, being corrupted by chaos energy despite their resistance and hopeless.

Dhar and Chaos are pretty close to each other, since Dhar is intentionally taking all the winds of magic and making their pattern more chaotic which is the opposite of 'high' magic.

Ah. It's theorized (in setting) that vampire souls are destroyed when they're made and replaced with an 'engine' of dark magic. Necharchs have tried to harness this and outside black magic to feed and mostly succeeded, but it hideously twists their bodies.

Note that if you trap and starve a vampire, it doesn't die, only goes mad and gradually twists into a completely bestiary monster. So it would seem all vampires can do this, but as far as I know only the Necharchs do so deliberately and understand the process much.

I've never heard of a vampire doing so, no. Most who try to not feed at all end up having frantic blood orgies before long, and some are driven irrevocably insane in the doing. Some material notes that Kattarina the Bloody, a Kislevite vampire who openly ruled as tsarina foe quite some time, was driven mad by attempting to cease feeding.

Novice DM-anon here. Just flipping through the Realms of Sorcery book and Brutal Finish scenario, being pretty magic focused and all, is it a good entry point for new players getting introduced to WHRP? I'm basically the only one with previous Warhammer lore & tabletop experience and while two are pretty seasoned D&D-types, the other two are fairly new to p&p (basically only played 1½ Pathfinder campaigns). I guess you could make the new players support characters following one or two wizards though...
>>
>>54554233
Lizardmen wouldn't bother them too much tough, as long as they don't try to expand. Orcs from this part of the world are mostly savage, and anyway, if the legends on Karak Zorn is true, they have knowledge (especially runic) from the golden age, they can probably protect themselve, but are too secluded to try and reach their northen kin.

>Lizardmen sit in crumbling ruins and go to war only when someone stole their plate, High Elves and Empire take Chaos threat on their own while joke toads think centuries to ask what happened.

It's more complicated than that. And as much as I love the Lizards, I have come to the conclusion that their role in the story was never to be The Heroes. They think too rigidly, and are too dedicated to carrying out the Old Ones plans to come up with a crazy idea like creating the magic sucking vortex like the High Elves did. They're there to hold the line, but Chaos understands them enough to know that for all their power, their rigidity means they can 'simply' defeat them with a war of attrition, like they were doing when the Gates originally collapsed. The fact that they were losing daemons by the millions over hundreds of years demonstrates both those facts quite well I think.

But that doesn't mean they aren't defending the world from Chaos constantly. They work to shore up their magical energy grid and dedicate its powers to reinforcing the Vortex's job, and the Slann spend a LOT of time in the Warp/Aethyr itself, fighting daemons directly (and very rarely do they die because of it). Then there's the fact that most large Chaos invasions of the Old World also coincide with attacks on Lustria of a similar size, since while they are isolated, the raw might of the Lizardmen armies and magic is a huge threat to the forces of Chaos.

And while many of their cities are in 'ruins', that doesn't mean they're totally depopulated and unused, with many housing structures and spawning pools still intact and in-use by the Lizardmen, with the last Army Books even talking about a 4th city that was being rebuilt because The Plan said so (and I should also note, the books say that the Lizardmen flat out abandon cities because The Plan says so too).

If I had to pick a race who was in the absolute Worst shape, without going for someone like the Giants who had their whole race turned into drunken violent inbreds by the Ogres, then I would have to say Beastmen. Because they don't do anything other than shit all over everyone else's stuff, until someone defeats them the survivors limp back to the forests. With Dwarves and Chaos Dwarves tied for 2nd, if we assume Thorgrim's attempts to 'modernize' his people don't do much in the long-term.

Wood Elves take a distant 3rd place, but only because they largely don't give a fuck about anything aside from their forest. But assuming Chaos never conquers the world, they're still fucked in the long-term. If/when Brettonia starts to industrialize, it's going to want to cut down those trees for fuel, the same way everyone else wants to. And short of genociding all their neighbors, there's not much they can do to stop that. Though their manipulations of Bretonnia were certainly doing a good job of slowing things down. But depending on how seriously you considered the fluff about the looming peasant revolt, it probably wasn't going to work forever.

I can explain it. So vampires are dead. They are animated by Dhar as much as any undead being. Their exceptions to normal undead rules are multitudinous, but this is not one of them.

Some of them are able to hide their 'Dhar signature' a lot better than others, namely the Von Carsteins as they need to move among humans. Blood helps maintain their ability to drain Dhar from the environment. All vampires naturally draw Dhar to themselves to stay animated, they apparently cannot stop doing this, as if Dhar stops, they would 'die' but we've never heard of a vampire 'starving' for lack of blood. What we have heard is that they devolve and eventually go insane, but turning into vargheists and other horrible things.

The dhar vortex is thus present in all vampires, but is very powerful in a particular bloodline, namely the necrarches. They absorb FAR more dhar into their bodies than other vampires, which makes them both excellent spellcasters and allows them to survive for much longer periods of time without blood. They still need it, just less so than other vampires.

You may also be thinking about the Dhar Well, namely Sylvania. That has to do with the fucktons of warpstone in the soil and that the place is absolutely saturated with Dhar, making it a popular place for necromancers and vampires alike.

I think GW was a little too proud of the ideas they came up with for 40k, and thought that WFB needed a little more of that grimdark factor that seemed to make 40k so popular. Maybe they also were worried about copyright or standing out, so adding things like that would make them unique from other fantasy settings.

Problem is the 'Slaanesh eats their souls' thing means nothing when it's not their fault Slaanesh exists like with the Eldar. And the fact that we know it's directly copy pasted from 40k makes it lame - at least when 40k took elves from WFB, it tried to make them a bit different.

Retconned in 6e.

Morathi was Slaanesh's high priestess and all Champions were announted by her. She wanted to summon Slaanesh directly into the world without his brothers to become her husband.

Gav Thorpe didn't like it, so he said they worship a goddess with no power that is functionally the same and Slaanesh eats all elf souls. Then he forgot to remove the references to elf ghosts who disregarded their own death as unimportant.
