Ghave is just gross, man. I was just fucking around with Undying stuff

I felt kinda bad since my group isn't super-Spiky and usually just turns creatures sideways

>MTGO
No one really cares about MTGO 1v1 commander, but since 1 person in this thread might actually give a shit, I'll chime in with this: WotC is terrible at managing it and are making bannings based on a poor knowledge of the format.

>Rules Committee
Unsurprising, in every way that matters. Of course they weren't gonna re-ban Hulk, since it is clear no one in their playgroup abuses it like it can be abused. Sheldon's group needs one or two really serious commander tryhards to come along and just shit on them for months to get them to reevaluate the banlist appropriately.

I'm actually wanting to play an infect deck. Of course, it would be more of a bored control based deck

BEHOLD, the ultimate in boros technology.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/depala-wheels/

or at least it would be if I wanted to throw more money at it, but keeping it around $400 is ideal.

for an even cheaper version, are there some spicy tutors/wheels I may be forgetting?

Also, stax cards are surprisingly expensive, so it would be interesting to find some very low cmc blow out cards like silence, and then beat all the combo decks with midrange after they run out of steam.

I swear to fuck.

Anyways, a pertinent question for /edhg/: how many cards of one type do you put in before considering cards that only work well with that card type (Affinity, Convoke, Constellation, etc.)?
>>
>>54257312
no, play what you want

It's a backup Umbral Mantle. As long as you actually have something to do with that mana then it's fine.

If you're running wheels, Bruna, The Fading Light can pull some good shit out of your yard alongside her. Greenwarden of Murasa is a bigger E-Wit and Woodland Bellower can grab a smaller utility creature like Khenra Charioteer or Archetype of Courage to make your fatties hit a lot harder.

JUST
>>
>>54257538
Keep in mind Bruna is a cast trigger, so hitting off Mayael doesn't work

>>54257574
I was disappointed too. I haven't tried it, but I think with a bit of filing work you could probably squeeze it in.
>>
>>54257452
How is this secret tech?

If you want some real secret tech, check out dragon arch, elvish piper, that green exert guy who does the same thing, mirrowood tree folk, where ancients tread, changeling colossus, ogre battledriver, garruk wildspeaker, pathbreaker ibex, and overwhelming stampede.

I also really like Harrow and Primal whatever where you sac a creature and get to fish two basics. Tragic Arrogance is also fantastic in that deck.
>>
>>54257575
True, but you can't always rely on Mayael. Bruna's a good option if she gets plinked off the board. Nobody ever expects an OG Gisela out of the yard without access to black.

>>54257483
...Ehhh, I'm already in Mardu, so his casting cost is a bit restrictive, even with black being my main color. Thanks though.

Daretti is really bad if you're behind on board. Monored artifacts aren't very good at keeping a planeswalker alive.
That said; the worst case scenario single activation Desperation-Daretti is still not bad. Better than alternative monored artifact commanders. Never quite understood the appeal of Slobad. I feel like Daretti is an engine while Slobad is a piece of an engine.

And then there's the best case scenario: T2-4 Daretti, opponents play no pressure and you can dig several turns until you've assembled other artifact value engines and you're golden. Draw, discard 2, draw 2 per turn really activates your almonds, lemme tell ya.

Karn definitely has nice synergies. Creature matters specific artifact tap-untap stuff mostly but can also be geared toward land destruction if you so desire.

Am I just seeing a concentrated hate for it in places or is it genuinly unliked? I'm not going to any revolutionary concepts as I'm pretty new to building decks and this sounded fun enough to build from scratch.

Also, when does a deck become "competitive"? Money isn't really a huge issue for low end value and I can justify some of $20-30 cards like mystical/demonic tutor but not cards that get $50+. Are those $20-30 cards "tryhard" or is there some magical thing I'm not picking up on that separates casual fun decks from competitive tryhard decks?

Competitive is a buzzword used by people who don't understand the difference between high power and tuning. Actual competitive EDH refers to a subsect of Commander focused around max-power play, which is overwhelmingly combo/stax and reviled by most of the community for being completely alien when compared to the rest of the playerbase (not that comp EDH is inherently bad for the format or anything). Generally speaking, it's considered prudent to have decks at all power levels, with most residing at the "75%" bar (strong manabases, a smattering of tutors, strong individual pieces, etc.)

>>
>>54258086

>>
>>54259749
Mill is probably the least competitive strategy in EDH and anyone who bitches about it is a shitter. More importantly, talk with your group to see if they have any taboo strats and just try to build to their power level.
>>
>>54260028
Unless you are talking Oona, but that's more of a combo.
>>
>>54259749
it's not the cost of the cards oits the intent of the deck.
competitive decks come in a few flavors. stacks, LD, control and ramp and combo/the machine. aggro is midrange good stuff.
this decks are focused on winning using a times deck that gets consistent results and achieving victory asap.

most non competitive decks try to do other things like playing an aurocs tribal or playing out the story of the weatherlight. focusing on silly interactions drawing the game doing something funny or playing pet cards etc.

I think of not competitive games as a grudgy talent show where you show what you can do while shoving shit at the other competitors.

there is a mid ground to be had when a person is in similar wavelengths and build similarly powerful decks that are not optimised but still do crazy stuff. I build many decks that are very similarly powerful. I let people pilot them and we usually have a blast. it converts good people to the format.
>>
Has anyone ever played Bang! with EDH? My group is fucking obsessed with it as of late. My decks all suck for it and I might have to bring a deck out of retirement to keep up

1RR
Krark, the Nine Fingered

When Krark, the Nine Fingered enters the battlefield you may search your library for a card called Krark's Thumb and put it into play.
Whenever you would flip a coin you may flip two instead and ignore one.
Whenever you lose a coin flip you lose half you life rounded up.

>107.1b Most of the time, the Magic game uses only positive numbers and zero. You can’t choose a negative number, deal negative damage, gain negative life, and so on. However, it’s possible for a game value, such as a creature’s power, to be less than zero. If a calculation or comparison needs to use a negative value, it does so. If a calculation that would determine the result of an effect yields a negative number, zero is used instead, unless that effect sets a player’s life total to a specific value, doubles a player’s life total, sets a creature’s power or toughness to a specific value, or otherwise modifies a creature’s power or toughness.
Yes. It "modifies a creature's power or toughness."

>>54261569
Thats not a magic mechanic.
>>
>>54261608
>If your life total is less than 0 and an effect (such as the one from an opponent’s Abyssal Persecutor) is keeping you from losing the game, Death’s Shadow’s ability will actually increase its power and toughness. For example, if your life total is -2, Death’s Shadow gets +2/+2.

You could make a player steal all of their own lands, have a Zedruu player give you Zedruu, destroy/tap/untap/bounce/flicker/force to attack or block anything. Reroute is hella fun and one of the biggest "didn't see that coming" cards of red.
That said, it floats dead in the water against Stax and most aggro. But combo? Oh, it makes short work of combo.
>>
>>54261657
>"mechanic"

as usual, the one moron using words without understanding what they mean is wrong.

Anyway, >>54261502 is a legit combo. Ichor Explosion checking the creature's power will get a negative number and the negative of a negative is positive. Good job.
>>
>>54261830
actually, all cards like Wild Beastmaster and Electostatic Pumeller has just received an update in Gatherer:

27/06/2017 If this creature’s power is negative as its ability resolves, X is considered to be 0. (This is a change from previous rulings.)

So yeah, maybe it used to work like that but not anymore. Maybe. I'm too tired to piece together info from comprehensive rules.

I never see anyone else ise Blood Oath from Masques, can hit people for huge amounts of damage whenever their deck does something good, like green drawing cards or searching up lands, or a pillowfort deck running mostly enchantments probably having more in hand. Point is in EDH everyone is trying to keep their hand stuffed at all times, and you can copy it.

What is everyone thinking about the new dinosaur cards? Will they be a playable tribe or will they be way too expensive cost wise?
>>
>>54263382
They won't be playable like most tribe of the set tribes, like dwarves or spirits, because there just won't be enough of them. In standard a tribe just needs half a dozen good cards to be playable, which is a number they might reach. In EDH you just aren't going to get 30+ playable cards for the tribe unless they go really wild and errata a bunch of cool cards into dinosaurs.

Im really excited what cards they will errata.
>>
>>54263382

>>
>>54263642

I'm determined to harness this card's power.

Creatures that sac themselves like Sakura-Tribe Elder and Wheel of Sun and Moon are a decent enough loop.

Bow of Nylea/Battlefield Scrounger are kinda okay with instant speed sac outlets, you can recur bunch at once, once per turn.

Epitaph Golem is one of the better repeatable effects. Reito Lantern works but is more expensive. Also Epitaph Golem has a retarded little brother in Junktroller.

Grazing Kelpie is very underwhelming but could have some interaction I haven't figured yet.

Scrounger, Golem and Kelpie are all decent wearers of Illusionist's Bracers.

Gurzigost and Anurid Scavenger have upkeep trigger which is something with instant speed sac outlets.

>>54266654
that was me m8
>>
>>54266656
Yeah it does count tokens even though it says "cards". I think wotc has been a little inconsistent in their errata and sometimes "card" gets errata to say "nontoken" but Asmira counts tokens now. You've got to check the errata.
>>
>>54266698
pretty much
only "cards" remain in the graveyard

For example, this card from the exact same set has errata'd "card" as "nontoken".
>>
>>54266868
To be fair that one says "summon card" which implies a nontoken creature card

Do rules override this? I thought of building a B deck around this, but is the effect repeatable?

Is there any way to make a creature attack alone multiple times through any weird bullshit spicy tech?

It's not important to how the deck functions, but it'd be an extra rude way to win the game.
>>
>>54266957
You can choose to return him to the command zone instead.

Aurelia, the warleader is the only card I remember right now.

Leaves the game is an archaic term for exile. You can put him in the command zone instead and still get his effect.

This is the worst mtg art trope
REEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>54266868
Well, that's probably because that one would be useless for tokens.

Seize the Day is a cheap way that works if you only want the one attacker.

Tokens aren't summon cards

They aren't cards at all.

It also literally wouldn't work with tokens anyway.

This card would be better if it could sacrifice tokens. It's kind of an unknown but decent (in a slow game) card.
>>
>>54266978
You'll need GWUR to make this work properly, but...
>Have Finest Hour, Aurelia the Warleader and plenty of creatures with Exalted on the battlefield since you're attacking alone and will need the buffs
>Attack with any one creature except Aurelia
>Finest Hour triggers, giving you an extra combat phase
>Now attack with Aurelia, preferably alone for the Exalted triggers, you thanks to her ability you get a third combat phase since this is the first time she's attacking this turn
>For some extra spicy tech, play Seize the Day or Waves of Aggression in your second main phase

ive always wondered what those stone tablets near the name meant. is it something related to the graveyard due to flashback?

How does the new Neheb work with this card? Do you get mana after both post-combat main phases or just the first?
>>
>>54267278
It was just a visual reminder for Flashback, yeah.
>>
>>54267278
Those were a short-lived way of reminding players that the card had an effect from the graveyard. It's supposed to function like the new aftermath cards are supposed to, where if you arrange your graveyard in a certain way you can see that part of the card and know it has some effect or could be played from the graveyard. I think they were really cool but they are a relic now.

I opened Scarab as my promo. The art is a bit too dark to be a good foil, in my opinion. They put foiling on the background too, so the khopesh just kind of blends into that rather than "popping" like you'd hope.

Aynone know what cards I could put in a Braids, conjurer adept deck?

It's not terrible. It's playable in monored or Boros, where you have artifact synergy already and people are worried about being domed by blasphemous act.

When I go to look for promo cards I use tcg player and use the gameday promo category, judge promo and player rewards promo
>>
>>54267955
Well I don't think you will find any of those things that are not on edhrec already. Obviously most of the eldrazi (despite missing cast triggers they are still better than krakens and shit like that), tidespout tyrant, stormtide leviathan, blightsteel colossus etc. Blatant thievery, treachery and most of the decent mind control effects would fit.
>>
>>54267299
I think the problem with this one is that it's fucking enormous in the art, yet it's only a 2/2
>>
>>54268018
>only a 2/2
just like sandstorm in pokemon
doesnt actually do a lot of damage
>>
>>54267964
Yep. And not to mention you may have "deal damage" synergies and are starving for card advantage so both modes might be suprisingly good.
>>
>>54267955
ETB effects are your friend I would think
bounce what they play back
>artifact, creature, or land
well Big artifacts.dek seems good
you get access to a lot of artifact tutors and such
I would look into some stax effects to keep from dying before being able to set up some sort of combo like darksteel forge + nev's disk.
There are so many cool artifacts too if you dont want to go full combo I would also think about getting some sac outlets for getting rid of her, flicker effects to dodge upkeeps, i think theres a card that gives you a second upkeep
flash so that you get advantage of it first

you need to make it asymmetrical in some fashion, if not dropping bigger stuff then at least controlling when the trigger goes off
>>
>>54268037
That could explain the power but not the toughness. As is this giant village devouring monstrosity can get rekt by grisly bears.

To be fair though power and toughness never make sense for this game. Like who would win in a fight? A literal god or 6 fucking bears.

Somehow the bears always turn up on top.

I'll never understand people who write posts like yours. When confronted with something you require additional information on you'd rather post than search. Takes same amount of time and same amount of effort to beg someone to explain and to search up whether or not there's a new Magic: The Gathering set and whether or not there are God creature cards without indestructibility in them that would provide me with the full context of the case the other guy was making earlier about 3 bears being able to kill a god in combat.
I mean in casual conversation I can see that happening but online? What on earth is going in their heads I wonder.
>>
>>54268009
>>54268099
Thanks! I wasn't really looking for a combo win, but thanks for the advice! I will definitely be looking into some flicker and sac outlets.
>>
>>54267955
I built a blue Braids deck that also ran Show and a tell and Gate to the Aether with Paradox Haze to play 6 things for free a turn. I ran mana doublers and plenty of draw engines with a control shell. It was artifact.dec but it would ruin people's day.
