Curio Shoppe

Library of Knowing still requires me to find, self teach, and then apply whatever I want to know, and I know l'd end up not working at it enough. Kingdom of the Air doesn't tell me if I can learn magic too, or if the people there are friendly or hostile.

Admittedly, the Curio Shoppe could be a trap too, but all it requires is I go for a walk one night, and I'll at least see some manifestation of my heart's desire whether or not I can afford whatever the price may be.

Fate - Marriage.
Recruitment - Exchange resources for extra companions to serve as base staff
Remodel - Exchange resources to replace your squad leader with one of these
Civilian contract - Exchange resources for extra city buildings
Dreadnaught - Replace your base with a mobile base, unlocking Heavy hangar.

Iron mind - 1 girl is hellbent on revenge, can't take any gadgets
Iron heart - 1 of your girls was a boss in the past, take a negative personality, take any weapon, regardless of hull size, as inbuilt. Limited to 1 slot, requires Fate
Iron blood - 1+ girl per offense mission cleared, 1 girl max at start.
Iron abyss - If a girl is defeated, add a second boss to your next mission

Missions
Hulls, some combat companions and transports give mission points that are needed to start them. Each stage drains x points, weapons and some gadgets reduce the drain.
Supply escort
Enemy transport - Take an item for free after clearing a mission. Can equip it instead of any current item

Defense
Base buildings receive damage instead of girls

Offense - Enemy has been located, we must eliminate it.
Multiple stages with diff. reqs, can have 1+ bosses. 2-3 stages is short, 4-5 medium, 6-7 long.

Examples of stages:
Landing - Enemy guard towers and scouts
Patrol - A few scouts and a light enemy
Vanguard - Several lights and scouts
Road to base - A medium and a light.
Breakthrough - Several mediums
Bodyguard - A Heavy and several scouts
Boss appearance - Final boss.
Enemy ambush - Halfway boss.
Reinforcements - Heavy with lights
Flagship - S.Hvy and mediums
Assault - Many lights

Also, fair warning, I might not be able to balance the mission points system well.

I'll try to add a stage for that too, but you'll able to create your own missions by combining separate stages. If you find presets not good enough.

Well, iron mind can change infantry gadget slots into weapon slots. Heart, basically, gives you a S.Heavy weapon without needing a S.Heavy hull. Blood gives you cosmetic changes, I guess. Abyss gives you 'rogue like' missions and whatever corruption/redemption narrative you have in mind.

As much as I enjoy reading, I'm no genius, so I'm probably not intelligent enough to make proper use of the secrets held within. I would pass on the Library unless there's some way to harness the vast knowledge, since my brain certainly isn't up to doing so. I might be more interested if there is some sort of librarian or teacher who can guide and accompany me.

The chance to learn magic is very, very tempting. I'm sure there are many wonders that I'd enjoy, but the knowledge that magic cannot be used outside of the Kingdom limits the appeal. I'd have to permanently move there, and there's no guarantee they would teach me. Might reconsider it if there is a guarantee of a good teacher and the means to support myself.

I enjoy looking around antique shops or other oddities, so the new shop would definitely interest me. When we arrive at the pedestal, the giggling shopkeeper would give me a smug look and ask if I would like to become her live-in companion and learn from her. Yes, a comfy eternal life spent living and working at a curio shop with an ancient eldritch entity in the shape of a cute female mentor/companion is pretty spot on to the true desire within my heart.

Its not so much my motivation as it is the quality of these threads. I've made lots of OC for lots of communities over the years and nothing kills my motivation harder than seeing all the intelligent people replaced with or outspoken by drooling retards.

I don't think thats a big problem for a lot of CYOAs; it only really comes up on the ones with a lot of small text which tend to be long enough to warrant PDFs anyway.

I can't say I do, when I make them I typically use Illustrator, which is really good and easy to use.

As for selectable text in images, or any fancy shit in PDFs, it's more than likely done in Acrobat or something like that. I was working on updating the Other's Gift CYOA with fancy PDF shit like this before other CYOAs called me away.
If it doesn't work in your browser, try another PDF viewing program like Acrobat.

Try exporting as png and then combine all 3 pages into 1 in photoshop or something and save for web as a png and see how big it is, then try one of those png compression programs/sites or save for web as a jpg with like 98% uncompressed to drop the size with little loss in quality, assuming 100% is too big to post on 4chan.

Wanted to make a sorta Fire Emblem Fates type Kingdom Waifu in the same vein of Zodiac.

Egypt Kingdom, China Kingdom, Greece Kingdom.

9 Waifus, 3 Rulers, 3 Combat, 3 Specialists

Wasn't sure how to approach each character in terms of writing, but you'd only pick ONE; with a sorta epilogue on how the two of you would have a happy ending and influence the kingdom for better or worse.

*Bad Writer- I haven't tried writing in anything but my dumbass voice.

*Poor Quality Art- Effort and time would be required to pick out a few good pics and learn layout and design from scratch

*Motivation- GoT is coming out, and I've got video games

*No Ideas/Esteem- Personality defect

Weird stats aside, I actually do like your CYOA. You may not think there's much interest due to lack of builds but it's because some of your stuff tends to be the kind where you choose something without it becoming actual build stimulating imagination but more like "yeah, I'd like options x and y". I am pretty sure that people still enjoy it, though.

I have only one suggestion, similar to one in case of horesemen CYOA - don't divide artifically the caracters between roles like this if you plan to add waifus. Just add shitload of characters with varied skills, flaws and advantages of various kind and let the player assign the roles as they seem fit. On top of that include in descriptions some romantic/sexual traits and mention that the player can try to waifu them, with all consequences involved.

Eh, you misunderstood me. What I am saying is that your CYOA are pretty nice and I suspect quite some anons will/are enjoying them (certainly I can say I do in majority of cases) but it's often not the kind of stuff for which you make builds for sharing with others.

So, assuming you do it for fun and enjoyment of others rather than generating buzz - you don't really have to change much. Though certainly branching off and playing with different themes and ideas would be to benefit of nearly all.

Also, a note to the author. You should spoiler the second page. I started reading the character cards before I realized that the information on whether you win or lose is right there. It kinda makes the rock-paper-scissors nature pointless if someone starts reading it and just picks the exact right opponents to win. I guess it could be intentional, but it just seems to make the whole thing a little less fun. At least put a note at the bottom of the first page.

Reminder that Well of Dragons author thought that making his cyoa look like Sweden's flag was great. I feel like the final 'parchment on stone' color set is a bit overdone but it does look good and it works, as opposed to some other color combinations that just seared the eyes.

On other hand, I think that the text is the most important part of cyoas so as long as your design isn't so terrible that it makes it unreadable, whatever.

I don't like washing my hands unless I have too. Cum smells great, it has this chlorine smell to it which I find really nice to smell. It also reminds me of swimming pools, I liked to swim a lot when I was little and I would always push my crotch against these streams of water in the swimming pool and I didn't know what I was doing really, I just knew it feelt great and I liked to watch girls in bathing suits when I was doing it. But now In hindsight I realize what was going on and every time I smell cum it reminds me of that and my heart fills up with this fondness for bathing suits and a nostalgic feeling of simpler times.

Wrong place wrong time is the most sensible motivation. While Waifu Wish makes sense, I wouldn't bother fighting for something I can't win.

Randall helped me outta that crazy fight. Fucking San Fose. I was getting pummeled by the time he bailed me outta that one. I'm surprised he thought I was worth the time.

The Feral Red River style fit me better than his wrecking ball. I'm not bulky enough for it, but I have some SPEED required for the river style.

Wait. I'm naming this attack?

ROCKET-FIRE-BOMB. It's my trademark, an UNSTOPPABLE jump kick aimed at the enemy's... vitals.

As little sense as it makes. I learned the STRONG wrecking ball style. I can position myself with the river style and maximize my weight by increasing the pressure of my attacks. It's not perfect, but it helps.

According to Randall, I've 3 ki bars. He's a funny guy. Next he'll be giving me senzu beans.

Marcus Bachman is a lazy fat NEET who has coasted by on luck, lovably pathetic charm, herculean drug tollerance, and encyclopedic knowledge of Kung-Fu movies and wrestling until he sold weed to a client: some musclebound beefcake type. Somehow playing stoned smash-brothers turned into sparring.... and long story short Marcus is a natural kung-fu genius who could have been a shoe-in for champion of the tournament if he weren't a lazy loser all these years. So far he's only learned to turn his massive weight problem into heavy blows. If he knocks out his opponent in one strike, his total lack of endurance doesn't matter. If he actually gets drunk/high during the fight, he can begin to emulate the unpredictable speed of the drunken masters, but he only has so many tricks and it gets predictable after the first time.

Preliminary-Ryo: It was an honor to fight the detective. (Speed/Relentless). Regrettably for him, I had him outmatched. Somehow. (Power-Speed/Unstoppable). His quick attacks were no match for the wrecking ball technique taught my bossman. But he's a good guy. I'll stay in touch.

Quarterfinal-Lisia: Lisia's technique was intimidating, but I was surprised. My feral red river had her completely outmatched. I wonder if she was innately weak to me, or if boss really thought I had potential.

Semifinals-Donna: Things got serious with Donna. I could overpower her with my wrecking ball, but her EXECUTIONERS AXE KICK met my ROCKET FIREBOMB pound for pound. I'm surprised I won. Barely.

FINALS-MAXIMUS STYLES: My final opponent was STYLES. It was a real honor to face him. Oddly enough, his *style* was inferior to my feral speed. Though once again his FLAYVA TOWN SMACKDOWN met my ROCKET FIREBOMB head on. It was a true tour de force as we faced off. But in the end, only one of us was standing.

Somehow. It was me...

What?
The ceremony was a blur. I remember cheering, and bossman heaving me away after my 4th drink. "You're not learning drunken boxing from me kid."

Once sobered up, I had a choice.

From that moment on, I was a new master. I could shift to a plane of peace, and hone the bodies and minds of new pupils. There, I opened a dojo, and life thrived.

I was surprised by the versatility of the Red River/Wrecking Ball technique. The only person who would've beaten me outright was the Diamond King, who lost to Lisia of all people.

Thankfully, I never faced anyone powerful, or with instant death strikes.

I'm too lazy to design a world, create 9 divergent characters with 9 divergent endings and tie it all together.

It would be significantly different in design to 4 horsemen. Instead of say, a river with a series of branches that come back to the source, it would be a delta that splits into 3, then three more paths. There would only be one choice.

But I ain't writing this shit until I'm motivated. Which is likely never.

The intent was that the Second Style and Secret Technique perks had the tradeoff of possibly not coming into play at all, depending on who you fought, where as Energy is the safe choice.
I don't mind people picking their opponents based on who they think they could be though, I even tried to have at least a hint or two in most of their descriptions to help on that front.
Mostly the perks are there to help out in case you choose opponents who just destroy you in the first two rounds in any case.

They're the hardy pioneer stereotype - they live there because goddamn its their place but beside that it is a shithole - literally every specie of animal and plant is deadly to humans so you cannot even enjoy things you'd normally do in a forest - fresh air, some nice plants, sight of the wildlife. On catachan, due to some suspicious reasons everything that's alive is built to kill humans. Every specimen of native fauna and flora. That's not even half of the crap that's on Catachan. Most people who know WH40K only from some computer games, movies etc don't understand how over the top it's meant to be not only in regards to grimdark but power levels. Even Space Marines who seem like a regular humanity's fighting force to average person and certainly not as OP as many other things in-universe are actually demigods in stats - bioengineered and augmented that they can do the physical feats of superheroes or Jedi (just without the use of actual psychic abilities unless they're psykers, too), able to due guard shifts while asleep, regenerating any kind of non-immediately-lethal damage with time provided they'd get any through their dense muscles and bones infused with some tank-armor shit (if you'd use IRL 45 or 9mm handguns you could empty whole magazine into a naked astartes and as long as you wouldn't penetrate an eyeball straight to the brain, he would just take it and sigh with boredom), poison and disease resistant, able to function in worlds with almost no oxygen without any suits, superstrong and huge and still superquick despite their mass due to optimized biology and years of hypnotic conditioning, fearless, with full control of their internal body working (hormones, adrenaline etc) and so on and so on.

Warhammer 40K is grimdark power fantasy that was meant to be over the top so much that it achieved a new top of over the top.

You know, I was just thinking about that. I'd gone off DLC stuff after doing a couple for Beastmaster, but this seems like it'd be a good one for it, and it should be easy enough to plug and play that section.

To understand all that shit, realize that 40k created the term 'Grimdark' and it was done as a joke. 40k started as just Fantasy Battles in Space and because every other space setting was THE DARK FUTURE and THE GRIM TIMES, 40k would of course be the darkest and grimmest, the grimdark only war.

Got jumped by a whole gang of local toughs, but the half-remembered martial arts of my youth came in handy. Despite giving far better than I received, I was slowly being beat down and was on my last legs.

You'd save the first page with different names and then modify the assets in it to fit your new page layout. At least that's how I usually do it.

Most of the assets are from google searches and then I did a little photomanipulation to them, like copying the cracked ground 3 times or so, flipping and rotating it, overlapping the layers and then blending them together with some judicious erasing/masking and merging them all down to a single layer.

I can toss the images into the folder too and you can get a free copy of photoshop cs2 from Adobe (link is in the pastebin). This file should be compatible with cs2 as I don't think I used any layer effect that cs2 doesn't have.

toss me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll send you a link when it's all uploaded. I have no idea if paint.net can even open a psd file with all the layers, so I'd suggest grabbing that CS2 copy.

Also you'll need to retype/cut&paste your intro text as I just used an overlay setting to make the black go away and that's not the best thing to do for a finished cyoa....but for the sample it was fast.

We should have at least 3 new waifu CYOAs everyday.

Worried as her crumpled form is carried off the field, I ask Vincent to check on her while I prepare for the next fight. To my surprise, Emily and Vincent end up bringing an embarassed Lisia in on a wheelchair to watch my next fight. Lisia watches me with a thoughtful look in her eyes as I warm up, although she turns bright red and sputters wildly when Emily leans over and asks her something. Damnit, Vincent is now giving me TWO thumbs-up.

Vincent rolls on the ground with laughter as I'm given a third female opponent. Donna wrongly assumes I deliberately tried to cripple Lisia, and the young teen tries to overwhelm me with speed. Against the inexperienced youth, I'm forced to use my incomplete mastery of the Hard Road Style to surprise and ultimately crush the speedster. Defeated, Donna is surprised when I offer her a hand up, and is doubly surprised when Emily and Lisia show up to congratulate me. I'm not surprised when Emily, Lisia, and Donna join Vincent to cheer me on for my final match. I feel a cold shiver go down my spine when I overhear Donna asking Vincent if I'm seeing anyone, followed by some very heated discussions going on. Despite my best efforts to ignore them, I swear I can hear Vincent laughing his head off.

I like to browse on my phone, when I open a .pdf it takes me out of my browser and automatically downloads it somewhere. It's a pain and I intentionally avoid opening them because of it. Which doesn't matter when you have such graphic-heavy CYOAs. PDFs were not meant for graphics, they're meant for business documents. It makes sense for things like Traveler but an equivalent PDF with the same levels of JPG compression for an image-heavy CYOA is many times the size, especially because there are multiple pages. That's because PDFs use JPG compression (or FLATE but only if you have no concerns to file sizes) and doing so across multiple pages degrades the documents severely. It looks like ass no matter how you process it unless you render a separate PDF for each page, which defeats the purpose of the format. It handles adobe graphic styles and vectors even worse than images.

AFAIK there are no solutions to multiple-page, graphic-heavy CYOAs, unless you post them off-site.

If I can't take the tomes out of the library, I'll take pictures of the pages. Heading straight for the math section - mathematics is far more concise than natural language. And by head straight for the math section, I mean wandering the halls for half a decade rummaging through bullshit irrelevant details (like an entire library wing dedicated to the anal circumstances of all creatures that have ever existed). Then spend another half decade deciding what mathematical knowledge is worth keeping. If I have the will at this point I'll search for the cosmology section and spare some phone memory for the Idiot Omniscient's Guide to Our Universe, just to get some very basic answers to fundamental and probably, without the Library, unanswerable questions.

And I hope to fucking God that I'm dropped at the English section of this nigh infinite library, because if I have to search through every language ever I'm going to die before seeing the English language again.
