First for there's nothing to talk about so hey does anyone want to give criticism on my WIP fimir BT?
>>
>>54173435
Reading through it and I agree with you on the Shearls ability to disappear in the mists. It should be a 9" distance or at least 10".

First among cowards seems ok in its current iteration, leave it be.

Drop healing from Lisart's Blessing entirely and let it be a roll off between -1 rend or +1 to wound.

How do I make a competitive Seraphon army? All I can think of that might stand up to current meta listts is the thunderquake/shadowstrike combo list and maaaaybe a hyper-aggressive double carno bloodclaw list with a shadowstrike. Even then these lists are so weak vs even mid teir armies theyll just gett shit on if the opponent is halfway decent.
>>
The biggest tournament in my area is being held this weekend. I just found out that some asshole is bringing a full Aetherstrike/Hammerstrike SCE army to the event. Keep in mind that since this is a fairly small playerbase for the area (less than 10 people are going to be there) WAACing is mostly kept to a minimum.

How would I go about trying to win against this shit? It does not seem to have any weaknesses at all.

Away with this nonsense.

You're the definition of a legacy army.

Your entire range has been squatted.

You didn't get the basic dignity of being in a Grand Alliance book.

You rely on compendium rules that GW is never going to update.

Mini shadow dragon to the rescue

I had an idea for a unit for the new shadow elves. Basically its an elite unit that is mounted on a larger version of pic related.

They have move 24, fly, 3" range melee attacks, 6 attacks, hit on 2+ wound on 2+, rend -3, damage 4. 6 wounds per model with a 2+ save and a 5+ ignore, and a shooting attack that does 2D3 automatic hits with 18" range wounding on 2+ doing D6 mortal wounds each. Also should be able to run, retreat, charge, and shoot in the same turn every turn and always pile in and attack first even in opponents turn.

what do you think?

I am so excited about this book. Removing path to glory was a good thing. I was never really a fan of the system for campaigning, but I feel it having its own book is necessary.

But that left room for time of war rules (which is something I would happily play in every game) and the additional allegiance rules are exciting for old and new armies.

I keep seeing remarks from GW on their FB pages everywhere that they haven't forggot about AoS and are not giving up on legacy armies. All this time I have been engrossed in 40k 8e, but i have never given up on AoS. I love just about everything about it.
>>
>>54196184
I don't either, but from what I heard Their newest edition was kinda a steaming turd, but to attempt to alleviate it they introduced a whole "Online forum where if you tell us what's wrong with the game we'll fix it" but don't actually DO anything with it. Couple this with the WAAC types that seem to infest that game, their fanbase is simultaneously mad cause change, feeling like they're needing to pay to be beta testers for a game, and also not being listened to.

This. I see no benefit at all with painting on the sprue. So I will do subassemblies. Like build the guys, but keep their shields separate so I can get the details underneath and around them, then glue the shields on after painting.

Parts need to be cleaned after they are clipped off their sprues, and you can't clean them after you paint them, unless you want to paint them again after clenaing.

Q: Why is your points balance such utter shit that anyone who knows high-school math can prove its screwed up?
A: Because our "professional" balance team uses their "gut instincts" and "feelings" to determine points costs instead of objective analytical numerical methods.

Okay but how do you account for units which change role depending on loadout. This isn't 40k where we take into account equip cost, though maybe it would be better if it did.
>>
>>54200069
He had 2 Mangler Squigs and a Colossal Squig as well.
Grot Warboss command ability lets rolls of 6 to wound do double damage, which probably helped considering the sheer amount of Squigs he was throwing around.
Every time a Squig flees with battleshock, they do a mortal wound on a 4+ to any enemy within 6 inches as well.

Reading the article on Warhammer-Community, it looks like he basically threw his Squigs at the enemy units while he held objectives with his grots.

either conservatively point them based on their most efficient load out, making the assumption that in almost all cases that is the one that will be used. Or take some kind of weighted distribution of the options into consideration when determining the mean.

but that's hard and depending on the "feels" of "experts" is easy. (cheaper too)

Sure, from a purely narrative standpoint it could be fun as hell, but I'm pretty sure the Ironjaws player who's getting curbstomped because he doesn't have his one good Hero along will find it less amusing.

I mean, 28 Renown. Per game you get 6-10 and some bonuses. So it'll take at least three games, more likely four or five, until you can get him. Either that or you start with an understrength warband, which isn't going to make things easier, either.

the elf list was
teclis
2 frost phoenix
1 dragon lord
+ other irrelevant stuff

I have a hard time believing it actually did any good. Snipe Teclis (easy to do) and the phoenixes evaporate. Sure the dragon hits hard but that's not enough.

Hey folks, thinking about jumping into AoS with Skirmish because of cost.

Is Skirmish well balanced? I was thinking Stormcast because I like liberators
>>
>>54209092
>Is Skirmish well balanced?
In general it's fine. There are some things that are dumb, mainly heroes that can hit multiple units at once with mortal wounds. In skirmish each model functions as its own unit so it makes those abilities super effective. For example the stormcasts Knight-Azyros has an ability to hit every unit within 8" with D3 mortal wounds. If he were near, say, a 10 man unit in a normal game, he would only kill 1-3. In skirmish though, he just wiped out 10 guys.

Okay...

First, you're 'shotgunning' your force, no single focus. I'm not saying it's wrong, but you have no 'hammer.

Two, read the Battalion bonuses for set mixes. There is still a lot of variation and you can always take multiple battalions. Read up on each battalion's bonuses and what it takes to get there. I field the Aether-eater Host, but have not mastered magic yet! I know, I run the wizard faction.

Third, if possible, test out each unit to see how it fits your play style. If you too stink at magic (for now), try one of the non-caster units.

Fourth, don't fear a screw up. Tzeentch is more fickle than Orcs and the same tactics can either cost or win the same battle.

Fifth, have fun with the paint job! All 3 of my Heralds (so far) have the 'moon' heads, one in each Tzeentch color.

Skirmish is so broken because GW obviously dident put any fucking effort into making sure the abilities effecting multiple units were balanced.

As >>54209513 mentioned, certain heroes can just fuck up your entire warband for free. Also, certain units that were designed to be taken in high groups get fucked without their size bonuses. Like, a phoenix guard costs 1 more renown than a vulkite berzerker but is better in every single way. My personal favorite interaction comes from the bullgors, when you take a bullgor with a set of drums you get to add +1 to your charge rolls for every unit within 12". This can lead to some hilarious moments where a bullgor gets close to a bunch of clan rats and charges 20+ inches to the other side of the board.

The fact that GW allowed people to take captain/banner/instrument models is dumb as fuck. Why could they not just go "yeah those effects don't work in skirmish because fuck you" to make it easier.

I guess skirmish can be a good intro to the game, so long as you realize that it can also be hilariously broken. Personally, I would look into Ironjawz or SCE since those were the two factions GW seems to have designed the game around.

I really, really like how the Empire aesthetic is almost 100% grounded in 17th century-land; it's honestly probably my single favourite depiction of humans in any fantasy setting I've seen. I just know that GW is going to completely fuck everything up and make their new 'regular dudes' faction (if they ever fucking make one) as painfully generic dude high fantasy lmao as the Stormcast, and that's just depressing.
>>
Everything we know of the lore points otherwise. Read all the material from shadows over hammerhal and look at the illustrations (esp the architecture). It's very much the same, to the point where it could be confused for the classic journey-style artbook 'blood on the reik'. Of course some parts are very azyrheim-like though. Also read city of secrets. Freeguild/freepeoples are very much like empire was, but with a different greater context. Also see the cover of 'Eight Lamentations: Spear of Shadows', which shows what looks like a ironweld gunmaster, replete with puffy sleeves, repeating pistol and goggles.

If you had actually read the materials from shadows over hammerhal, you'd know it specifically says in the opener of the guidebook than only a small portion of the city is actually anything like azyrheim.

"Yet despite Hammerhal's splendorous facade, most of its citizens never experience a fraction of that opulence for themselves. For those who live in the outer districts life is full of toil and danger, a far cry from the glorious future that the free peoples of Azyr once imagined."

>Nope, architecture is much closer to Azyrheim

See pic. Also GW states here (https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/02/19/closer-look-the-city/) that "Many of these images are reminiscent of cities from the Old World, but with a more expansive, grander and fantastical aspect that sets them firmly within the Mortal Realms"

>Atra Millitarum structure

Citation? Also please learn to spell. It's 'Astra Militarum'.

>And with 19 century rifle

They're still using blackpowder weapons, what does it matter?
>>
>>54216329
>If you had actually read the materials from shadows over hammerhal, you'd know it specifically says in the opener of the guidebook than only a small portion of the city is actually anything like azyrheim.
1) We are talking about cover art, which looks exactly like Azyrheim.
>"Yet despite Hammerhal's splendorous facade, most of its citizens never experience a fraction of that opulence for themselves. For those who live in the outer districts life is full of toil and danger, a far cry from the glorious future that the free peoples of Azyr once imagined."
So it's high-advanced, but DANGEROUS city, okay, it's more like Hive-city.
>but with a more expansive, grander and fantastical aspect that sets them firmly within the Mortal Realms"
So magitech hive-cities
>Citation?
Infantry regiments, armoured divisions, air corp, nothing like Empire.
>It's 'Astra Militarum'.

>high-advanced

Be specific. What do you mean by this? Also learn english already. You should be using the adverb "highly".

>Infantry regiments

Because blocks of infantry weren't in WFB?

>armoured divisions

Citation needed, and also very vague, what exactly are you referring to?.

>Air corp

Which is composed of the very same dwarf flying machines found in WFB, namely gyrocopters. Do I need to post a "READ NIGGA READ" Uncle Ruckus meme?

>while well, WHFB humans doesn't have XIX century rifles

Half-to-one century of firearms advances hardly makes anything "highly advanced". It's blackpowder weaponry. It's not high-tech. You're arguing semantics over the nature of a rifle, of which only 1/4 is visible in the pic.

Just because they've restructured what goes with what doesn't at all make anything "high tech" or radically different from the aesthetic of the old world, which is what the original post was about. Sure, there's a few glittering magical cities and whatnot. I'm not denying that. What I'm saying is that you can't bring up fucking azyrheim, the biggest and best goddamn city in the setting and pretend all the others are just like it. The city in the picture of the cover art is excelsior, the same one as from city of secrets (read the preview description for proof). Again, the book states very clearly that in that city, a portion of it is ornate and inspired by azyrheim (hence the pic), but much of it poor and downtrodden. So sure, you've got tall dome topped buildings in the background, but even those aren't new, just more common now.

Also what don't you get about a direct quote from GW saying these images (of hammerhal) are similar to cities from the old world? Again, it's a mix of old and new, but the old style tiled buildings with wood cladding are very much there.
>>
>>54216879
>Be specific.
Kharadon/Skaven-tier (basically victorian age) magitech, is it enough?
>Citation needed,
Ironweld Arsenal, only tanks and artillery.
>Which is composed of the very same dwarf flying machines found in WFB, namely gyrocopters.
And so what? I'am talking about military structure.
>Half-to-one century of firearms advances hardly makes anything "highly advanced". It's blackpowder weaponry. It's not high-tech.
>all blackpowder weaponry are the same tech-level
Guess, you never read about opium wars?
>What I'm saying is that you can't bring up fucking azyrheim, the biggest and best goddamn city in the setting and pretend all the others are just like it.
But I can and your own citations saying that free people cities is much more highly advanced than WHFB.
>hence the pic
Invalid.
>but the old style tiled buildings with wood cladding are very much there.
Where? All what we've seen is made from stone or gold.
>>
>>54216879
>namely gyrocopters.
Yeah because it's special WHFB word.
>>
>>54216879
>the biggest and best goddamn city in the setting and pretend all the others are just like it.
This city reflects free people tech-level in setting
