As I recall the bargain in that book with Nocticula is mostly "no strings attached" the players are allowed to get a boon from her costing up to a certain amount in GP I believe. It's only the profane gift that has risks. To be honest any PC at that point should have enough knowledge planes to know it's a terrible idea. I've got a celestial pact avowed || sphere oracle with life mystery. There's some strong synergy with those. Take damage from life link, heal damage with swift actions from life sphere, gain bonus to attack and damage from martyrdom pact ability, full round aether barrage. It's pretty neat. There are some weaknesses there. The first is Arcane Spell Failure. Paladins like heavy armor, sorcs do not. But you will get CHA to saves and a bigger HD and BAB. You can make an interesting Gish but it will require sinking feats into a meh feat chain or foregoing armor, something you might regret doing.

The first character I played was never destined for godhood, though one of the other PCs (from a player who had played other games before) was meant to eventually complete the Test of the Starstone... Though, that was never a goal that was even on that PC's radar during the campaign.

Hmmm... from my perspective, it's hard to talk about Bethany without bringing up some other apps the person has written. This is going to be tricky, but here goooooeeees...

Bethany feels like the apotheosis of everything Halae has written going all the way back to RotJR; although I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

One of the reoccurring themes in their apps is the idea of being "broken;" wounded beyond repair by circumstances out of their control. Almost always by a parental figure, most often the father. Which Bethany certainly is; she's very clearly broken in both body and spirit. But she breaks from the past in a major way. The other major theme, has been the indomitably of the character's spirit, and their sense of agency. Anja had her coping mechanism, but still stood on her own two feet. Despite the memes, no one could accuse Mouse of needing someone to rescue her. A character that never stops fighting their inner demons, comes off as far stronger, and more developed than one who sits back and waits for rescue.

That's where Bethany stumbles. She feels too passive, and doesn't have that spark of defiance needed to really make this character work.

Superstition, Witch Hunter, Spell Sunder, and Come and Get Me (be sure to pick up Combat Reflexes to milk the most benefit out of CaGM). Sure, it's not pounce, but these powers are a lot of fun. I played a Invulnerable Rager barbarian with them and a +X Furious Vicious weapon, ignored my AC and focused on DR and killing things with an AoO before they get to resolve their attack to stay alive.

Also, not rage powers, but Raging Vitality and Raging Brutality are also great, so much so that I think I might consider them borderline mandatory feats for any barbarians I play in the future.

I think you may be missing something about the way autistic folk work, and the big reason Bethany got picked up by a cult was because of that. Specifically, they don't GET people.

Emotional distance is a huge factor in the way autistic people work. It takes years of socialization to break through that barrier, and Bethany just hasn't had that. Past that, autistic people tend to have a focus they naturally gravitate towards, learning all they can about it; for Bethany, that's magic. She doesn't get "revenge by-proxy" either, because she wouldn't feel catharsis the same way other people would; the emotional disconnection means they won't connect the actions of a specific person to another person, even subconsciously. either you get revenge on the originator of the problem, or you just don't. Taking it out on other people doesn't work.

What you're suggesting is a break from the character. Bethany doesn't really get other people; she gets individual emotions, sure, but thought processes? What they enjoy, find fun? She doesn't - can't - think about that sort of thing. She's not a crusader and never will be, but what she is is a solid individual that, any time she sees someone hurting, will go out of her way to help them. She wouldn't have gone to the worldwound on her own, because the people there were out of sight and thus out of mind.

This doesn't mean she's some amoral fuckhead because she can't see past her own nose; it means that she needs help coming out of her shell, and has yet to have something give her the boot in the ass she needs to become an actual hero. That's why she works for the situation; her story is about being in the wrong place at the right time, and trying to make the best of that situation. she's just trying to keep to herself and enjoy the thing she finds interesting, and the environment keeps throwing her curveballs to connect her more to the world.

the problem, I feel is you're too caught up in my earlier characters.

I can try my best to explain with why guns are better at Commonplace, at least for this campaign.
>They're a cool and interesting aspect of this part of the world that few other locales can justify, much like how the Winter Witch PrC is an icon of Irrisen, or how the Hellknights are connected to Cheliax. Limiting them so much would feel like it is doing a disservice to the area and setting for this game.
>They're way too expensive for anyone to justify trying to specialize in them normally; a basic musket literally takes up half of your allotted money for a 3rd-level start unless you're a Gunslinger, and forcing people to play a single class just to use one variety of weapon is akin to forcing people to play a Ranger just because they want an animal companion.
>By using Commonplace instead of Emerging, early firearms become Martial Weapons, which allows for warrior-types to be able to have an "ace in the hole" for when a situation requires something quick and accurate for solving a problem; they're also less stat-hungry than a thrown weapon or a bow. It also allows for characters with a limited proficiency list (IE Kineticists or Eldritch Archer Magi) to have a cool gimmick that makes them stand out more without being forced to invest into a subpar path

Alright /pfg/, riddle me this:

in Wrath of the Righteous, I'm a paladin of Sarenrae. There's a cleric of Iomadae, and he's just a total cunt. Like, stole my army out from under me, constantly screams about how he's gonna fucking smite the shit out of anything, and now is butting in on the person I'm redeeming/mentoring. He's basically a massive dick right now, and from what I understand, it's only going to get worse from here due to the nature of the AP.

So, /pfg/, how the fuck am I supposed to deal with this guy? He just fucking steamrolls over us because the GM is a pushover, and none of us want to tell him to stop because he's got such frail emotions. I like the guy, don't get me wrong, but the way he's playing is basically "THIS IS MY CAMPAIGN AND I'M GONNA DO EVERYTHING", instead of letting the party do dick for shit. Anyone have any advice for dealing with someone like this?

What bugs me about this is you openly call her autistic, but miss a huge facet of autism - unless they are very high functioning, they don't just randomly help people out of empathy, even when seeing people hurting. A huge part of not understanding how thought processes work is they don't understand the emotions of others, and how those work in other people. You're only playing up the socially awkward facets without the real downsides of being 'autistic' - the lack of empathy. And honestly, it feels like you're dodging it because it would make her less consumable.

You can't have a character with huge empathy who doesn't understand people because understanding people is what empathy is. Just admit she's a normal socially awkward nerd, people will still love her and you won't have to dance around the impact of autism.
