The new version is a bit more complicated. You no longer get credit for your current age and instead get 4 free months to sped in each section. There're no more power limiters, but instead a system of artifacts where you can slot in powers for a reduced cost. Amulet, for example, can support one power at /4 cost, but is only usable when you're genuinely afraid for your life. There's a secondary power drawback system in the form of seals (e.g. -1 year on a power if you are bound to never lie). The third drawback system inflicts apocalyptic conditions on the Earth in exchange for de-aging. Zombie apocalypse, for example, is -10 years. These cannot be taken in conjunction with Portal, which has been somewhat nerfed. Forgotten Realms has been nerfed into oblivion--the setting is watered down and you get basically no points for going there.

There are quite a few more powers, many with built-in "mastery" improvements you can take for multiplied costs. This part, I rather like. Also, you explicitly can no longer grant yourself years with "give longevity". Oh, and there are also options for creating companions and "uplifting" the whole world with powers.

There are definitely good parts to it, but others (rip Forgotten Realms) are pretty debatable.

Prison Tour

Hello there, you must be the hero assigned to survey the facility's safety and security. I'm the Warden here, with Sister Purity serving as the Vice Warden. You may be feeling some faint tingling from the connection into the virtual prison, that's completely normal and will fade in a few moments. If you'll just follow me, I'll show you around the prison's facilities, the genpop, and the rehabilitation area.

If you'll notice, as we walk past, the security cameras located on the sides of the hallway follow us. Our surveillance systems are the best in the known galaxy, and when operated by our Head of Security, the highly acclaimed TAY, nothing that the inmates do escapes our notice. Our staff is primarily real people, a decision that I made myself due to concerns about the efficacy of automated virtual guards when compared to the highly trained personnel that we have on staff here. What you're seeing however, are futanari avatars that they use while inside the prison, and not their actual bodies, and they also use psuedonyms while on shift. This minimizes the risk of inmates identifying guards and potentially targeting them or their families if our rehabilitation program somehow fails. Furthermore, our armory is well stocked with bleeding edge equipment, although due to our innovative rehabilitation program and excellent security, there has been no need as of yet to actually use any of said equipment. Furthermore, we have Ice, the former warden of another maximum security prison, as well as retired hero Stopman on staff. Both of them contribute their invaluable knowledge and experiences with criminals to our team, and I have to say that we're lucky to have them.

Okay, we've reached genpop, or the general population. This is where the majority of our nearly one thousand inmates reside. You may be asking yourself "Warden, this facility is mixed gender, is it not?" and true enough it is. However, we initially experienced severe problems with discipline and infighting when both male and female inmates mingled, and so we decided that it was in the best interests of both the prisoners and the staff that the gender issues be corrected. Using the latest in medical research, all prisoners are turned into futanari, that is to say, hermaphrodites, upon entry into the prison, and then their prison avatar is created based on their new body.

Some heroes that have visited in the past have expressed concerns with this decision, but the prisoners all adapt to their new bodies quickly, and in many cases are happier with their body image than they were prior to the change. Around their necks you may notice what looks like a metal collar. In actuality, that's one of Stark Industries' newest contributions to the world, a small collar that suppresses superpowers so that villains are brought back down to the same level as everyone else, and also allows guards to quickly subdue unruly inmates.

Ahh, it's Treatment time. Please step back, as the cell doors will be opening soon. Once daily, inmates are lined up and travel through our medical center, which is naturally outfitted with the best equipment available, and are given a thorough medical check, several injections that will become more relevant later in the tour, and a quick dip into our Beta Wave Cerebrogram. It's quite bluntly, mind reading technology. Our inmates' frequent dips in them give us detailed information about the inmates' personality, fears, and interests, allowing us to build accurate psych profiles that let us form a plan and chart the inmate's progress along our rehabilitation program.

As you may have noticed from how much I talk about it, our prison is heavily focused on rehabilitating the villains and scum of society, turning them into invaluable assets to society. This program is spearheaded by our Vice warden, who believes that at the core of criminal behavior is a lack of self control and empathy for others. To this end, our program focuses on fostering mastery of the self, as well as instilling a desire to serve in our inmates.

The injections that I mentioned earlier drastically increase the libido and the severity of physical stimuli in recipients, which naturally makes inmates highly aroused and easily brought to orgasm. However, to foster self control, inmates are not allowed to orgasm at all, and are kept from doing so by a series of rings, also provided generously by Stark Industries, that prevent the wearer from orgasming. The rings are quite easily removed if the inmate can't stand being unable to cum, but doing so violates two rules of the prison, one prohibiting the intentional removal of the rings, as well as the rule prohibiting orgasm. In this way, to avoid breaking the rules, inmates must suppress their temptation for immediate gratification, just as how once free, they will need to suppress the temptation to go back to their old ways.

This leads me to my next section, on the rehabilitation area. This is split into three primary sections. On the left, you can see ten of our inmates happily enjoying the lottery system. You see, although the Sister disagrees with me, I believe that when there's a light at the end of the tunnel, people are more likely to follow the rules of their own free will. Thus, the lottery system. Every week, all inmates in Good Standing are entered into a 'random' drawing, secretly weighted towards inmates with good behavior, and 10 inmates are drawn as winners. The winners exempted from the bans on removing the ring or cumming for the day and are allowed the use of these sex machines for up to four hours, which will bring them to orgasm repeatedly.

The latter two are for rulebreakers. On the right is the Re-education Center, which is an ominous name for a relatively benign procedure. At night, rulebreakers are strapped into the machines, and during the roughly 6 hours a night that the human brain spends in Stage 3 sleep, the machine uses hypnotic signals to implant mental associations that can become patterns of behavior if nurtured.

In particular, the machine uses a set of associations we like to call the Good Girl set, which focuses on linking following rules, submission, and altruism to happiness and pleasure. It also links swallowing semen to trust, which is a key component in the next area.

Up ahead is the Arcade, where the associations are cemented into consistent sets of values and behaviors. In it, members of the community outside of the prison use randomized avatars and sexually use the rulebreakers, instilling a strong desire to serve the community to the best of their ability in them. This also improves the reputation of the villains in the public eye, so that when they leave the prison, they're not forced back into the arms of other villains by negative public opinion. After their daily shift in the Arcade, rulebreakers are provided with meals consisting entirely of semen with additional nutrients added by the guards, and their diet is restricted to such for the duration of their two week long punishment period, taking advantage of the mental association to firmly cement a trust of the guards and similar authority figures. In fact, many inmates request permission to service the guards and swallow their cum outside of punishment, proof that this trust in the guards is both strong and lasting.

So, as you can clearly see, the security here is unquestionable, and our innovative rehabilitation system is putting our inmates on track to become invaluable superheroes, putting their dark pasts behind them. I'm kind of amazed that Fate's Yarn in Moderate Conveniences is only worth one point. Any fate you desire guaranteed as long as you can spend at least a minute describing it while tying the yarn around the person is insanely powerful, especially considering my initial thought was to use the yarn to give myself the fate of ascending to godhood, uplifting all of my loved ones so they can join me, and being powerful enough that the other gods can't or don't want to bother threatening any of us in any way. Which those turned out to be surprisingly relevant concerns when I got to Major Changes and Minor Troubles.

Haha! I wrote that one forever ago, and didn't really pay much attention to it when I came back and finished it. I guess it IS really overpowered, but I thought of it more like the red string of fate, something people would probably do to tie bonds between people, or maybe just manipulate others maliciously. None of the items that were made by her were really ever described as though they had the potential to surpass beings like herself in how they could be used, although the reason her Mentor wanted the Toolbox destroyed was because it actually can cause some serious trouble for him. The yarn, if used in the way you describe, would probably just railroad you harder towards accepting the Mystery Box at the end of Major Changes and Minor Troubles, with added assurance that you would get the good ending.

Inka worries me a bit to be honest; I like a good sub, and an brown elf sub is even better, but I'm not sure I wouldn't go too easy on her. I'm hoping the Flawed Virility booster will help with that, as well as making sure I use her regularly. The Intelligence booster is to make sure I can make plans for humilating and punishing her without doing lasting damage (mental or physical) as well as hopefully thinking of a few ways to let her experience at least a little bit of a normal life. Endurance is just quality of life health stuff, and Perpetuity is there so she doesn't outlive me (I'm assuming Elviran life spans are like elf ones), as I'd worry even more about what would happen to her without me.

Already planning on it, and already very thankful for my particular wording for the yarn. It'd be some very heavy railroading to get me to kill the girl and her friends, since I basically have her to thank for my ascension (as the option likely never would've been given had I not met her) and I'd be inclined to essentially NEET it up as a deity, letting others do their political thing while I just enjoy the powers I've been given/earned and do my godly thing with my bros.

Makes me think of all the forum roleplaying I did growing up. Tons of amazing and interesting stories, none of which ever had a conclusion. Sometimes I'll get really nostalgic, and it drives me mad the amazing tales that just died off, and I still cringe at the ones that died right after an especially cringy post was made by me, or the ones I just got too busy for and let die.

I stopped forum roleplaying due to the build up of stress from unfinished stories, and because I wanted to channel my writing into actual novels. Unfortunately, all of that self-inserting led to my being unable to make characters that aren't cardboard cut-outs of me, and making people sound different from one another is nearly impossible.

Making CYOAs with different character narrations is a good way to try and practice getting around that. Also a great way to procrastinate, as writing is much more difficult without constant feedback to motivate me.

The Yarn, like most of the more high-potential items in that list, works as follows:

1. Fulfill the task with as little effort/expended energy as possible, while still remaining completely faithful to the letter of the law in regards to the assigned task.

Ultimately, they, and you, need to either Ascend, or Fade, with the only other exception being an even worse fate that's a bit of spoiler territory. Making you powerful enough that you and yours absolutely can't be effected negatively by the combined efforts of the girl and her friends would be a far more difficult task than simply making it so that you'd instead desire to stop their Ascension. A bit of paranoia here, some hesitation in their critical moments there, and before you know it you'd be the only one left.

Yeah, not exactly the path I had in mind. Something more along the lines of "work hard so you hardly have to work." kind of NEET, assuming it's possible. If the girl and her friends are my friends, and they need help with something or they're in danger, I'd be all over that. Mortal followers are can-do too, but I imagined eventually things would progress to the point that we all wouldn't need to micromanage and pick every individual follower, since the girl, her friends, and now myself and those I bring with me, are all essentially baby gods just entering what equates to our teens. The feeling I got so far is that mortals that received their boons are meant to eventually be prophets, either intentionally or unintentionally, and they'd likely grow followers naturally just by others noticing amazing things about them and wanting some of that for themselves.

Huh, you bring up some points I hadn't really considered. What exactly having this power does for you as a mortal is something I've tried to avoid addressing, in terms of how it can be used to acquire ridiculous amounts of power or shown off as a miracle of sorts. As far as needing a connection to mortals, that's nearly constant, though I suppose it could be considered something similar to how faith works for most deities in some stories. You might not need to directly have people drawing power from you as long as enough people genuinely believe in you.

I'm actually noticing quite a few things I hadn't thought to address in terms of how this world works. Originally reality-warper was a more accurate term than god, but I felt god made a good shorthand, and in doing so sort of lost some of the clarification, and now there are ideas I like and ideas I feel won't work out too well, and I'm still getting it all sorted out in my head.

I can say that giving power to mortals has less to do with them being prophets, or meant to gain you followers (though they can certainly be used in that way) more than they are meant to be power sources for the gods themselves. The type of being they are that allows them to wield their powers and such requires a connection to the souls of mortals. Fading is not dying, or moving on, it's nothingness, as by becoming this type of 'god' the nature of your soul warps so that it cannot sustain itself on its own. You need to draw a bit of power from the souls of mortals to keep yourself alive, and to enhance your powers, otherwise you become something like a very sleepy ghost in a world where there aren't any ghosts. Unable to interact and barely able to even be aware of the world around you.

Yeah, I like that idea, so I'll be going with that, everything else I still need to hammer out, and a lot of lore isn't really relevant to the CYOA proper, but thanks for shining a light on important parts of this CYOA I had been blind to.

Abilities: Increased speed, natural weaponry, projectile attacks, venom. My feathers are razor sharp, barbed, and poisoned, and I can fire them like darts from my body and regrow them.
Drawbacks and missions: Budget Rangers, Magical Girl Team, Great Devourer (+6 boss tokens)
Boss perks: Enhanced speed, true fade, enhanced regeneration, absorption.

Final stats: Final boss speed, moderate strength, low defense. Venomous razor darts should bump up my damage a bit from "moderate", but I'm assuming I won't be able to scuff the paint on anything with massive defense.

I am an assassin, a parasite that operates in the shadows. I track my targets, wait until they're isolated and vulnerable, and silently strike. Perhaps I stand over them and watch as the poison takes effect and the life drains from their eyes. Then I swallow their cooling corpse and replace them.

If I don't get the drop on my mark, I am lightning fast in a fight, and despite my weak defense, I can afford to trade blows with a stronger opponent. I can avoid taking a killing blow with my speed, and I regrow anything that gets lopped off. Eventually the poison will weaken them and slow them so I can close for a killing strike. Anyone with truly epic defenses I can evade and choose to approach when their guard is down.

I would destroy the budget rangers and the magical girl team in the same way: from within. Study the team, target the most careless, overpower them in a moment of weakness. Then replace them and worm my way through the team one by one, consuming each in turn until they do not have their unified strength to rely on.

I am not a nice person, apparently.

Nothing's ever wrong with more lore. You're certainly welcome, and go as in depth as you'd like. I did remember that those of us that got boons were just a means to increase the girl's power, kind of like grinding it out in an MMO, I just thought eventually there'd be more use gained from those lucky few. Probably as the direct returns on investment diminish.

I actually had a lot more to that post initially, but I scrapped it since I'm tired and wasn't sure how much sense it made. Mostly it was all around how gods could sustain themselves "passively" and a bit on true immortality, if you wanted that to be a thing. They all basically boil down to forms of parasitism/symbiosis which is what I suspect the old man of doing in uplifting the girl, her friends, and me, cannibalism hello antagonists, unless you've got something else in mind, or just making such a large enough mark on the world that nobody can deny your existence. I read something a few years back about there still being tiny pockets of believers in Odin and the like still today, but for most people they're deities you just learn about in history class. Even without the pockets, the fact his name is still passed around and everyone knows at least a little lore about the Allfather could be enough to count. Or say some god had a hand in the creation of one of the laws of reality, or actually made some of the constellations, and used that as a way to draw sustenance from mortals.

Feel free to outright ignore all of that. Hopefully there's at least one tiny thing in my post that sparks your creativity.

Honestly, I feel like this cyoa would make a great comedy series. "This Harem Protagonist is a Dense, Paranoid Edgelord." Since there's progress on page 4, I decided to start preparing page 5 that has a list of companions and transports. Maybe you can suggest more of them.
