I think screamers are cool, but you don't really need them. You have your searching troops and then units like destroyers, to fight CQBs. If you need to. With them I can do multiple role, where the screamer just really fills one.

>>
>>53997032
God corsairs are shit.

Why can't their accuracy just be improved one step? It would be a huge fix.

Tormentors aren't so bad. They're still not great, but the biggest reason they aren't picked is that people don't recognize the value of area denial, assuming a unit that doesn't get to shoot is worthless.
>>
>>54009339
Tormentors just don't offer that much to the faction, especially nowadays. They're not a bad unit in a vacuum though armour 9 wouldn't go amiss but a flame unit that isn't super speedy and doesn't do anything else can't have that much of a place in the faction with the best CQB in the game.
Compare it to Fireblades. Almost the same unit, yet Fireblades are well loved while Tormentors are ignored. That's because UCM takes to CQB like a fish takes to an oil spill, so they need a flame unit to offset that. Whereas Scourge can just shoot a few Razorworms through a wall and fly in some Destroyers/Eviscerators.

But you can't have a discussion about shitty Scourge units without Vampires and Invaders. Old Ones can come too.

Does anyone have suggestions for setting up a DZC demonstration game? I've got sufficient PHR, Shaltari, and UCM to host something, but I feel like the base starter scenario is a bit too limited on battlegroup variety.
>>
>>54020167
I'd say bring the starter set then an equally priced 'big' unit to show differences between the factions. A Hades for PHR, perhaps a unit of heavy tanks in an albatross for the UCM, a big swarm of prowlers for Scourge, and a warstrider of your choice for Shaltari. Something to let each faction's different tastes show through. I definitely wouldn't bring command cards, just a suggestion.

Sure, $1100 sounds like a lot, but the listing offers you financing for an easy monthly payment of $52/mo! You'd be crazy not to jump on that deal!

All that and I don't even think it's one New Orleans worth of soldiers.
>>
>>54025709
I assume he got a lot for real cheap, or otherwise he's actually an insane person. 6 Seraphim and 42 Legionnaire bases is more than anyone needs.
>>
I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation but it's funnier to imagine someone throwing down four figures on every possible component for a game with no rhyme or reason and then never bothering to touch it again.

Are either of the Menchits useful for anything these days?
Those spud rockets have got me curious.
>>
>>54028289
A1 is still fucking terrible.

A2 is good. You can get away with being a slow flame unit when you double as an AT shitkicker and aren't stuck in a squad with long range units. They're perfect for going after big multi-wound things like Shaltari heavies and Resistance hovercraft.
>>
>>54020214
Looking at UCM, PHR, and Shaltari, I have:

Kodiak in a Condor with Missiles
3x Sabres in a Condor with Missiles
3x Rapiers in a Condor with Missiles
2x3 bases of Legionnaires in 2x Bears in a Condor

2x Ares in a Neptune
2x Phobos in a Neptune
2x Immortals in 2x Triton A1s
Hades

Gharial
3x Eden
2x Haven
3x Tomahawks
3x Kukri
2x Braves

Would the Tritons or added "cool" models skew things particularly hard in one faction's favor?
>>
>>54029483
Triton's aren't all that great to begin with so...
>>
>>54029774
Last I heard they were a lot better than Junos.
>>
>>54029483
That UCM is a bit shit desu. Kodiak doesn't need transport and is pretty useless without spotters anyway, and Bears are a generally poor choice unless you're using heavy weapons teams.
Raven-As would be a good investment, and perhaps some Wolverines and Raven-Bs to spot for the Kodiak as well.

PHR on the other hand has Tritons and a Hades. Light dropships are just plain better than APCs, so that's a definite advantage they have over UCM (Havens are a bit of a weird outlier with their Shaltari warp fuckery, so they should be fine).
I'm not sure either rival faction really has the tools to deal with a Hades, especially a walk on Hades. At 900pts with a more concrete force, sure. But not at 700 with forces focused around the starter. And the big guy is going to be mostly demo and area denial anyway, since he wasn't designed as a walk on unit. Consider replacing it with Zeus+Odin in a Neptune.

You nailed it with Shaltari imo. Gharial is a solid centerpiece that is very powerful and flashy, but can still be effectively engaged by Sabres and Ares.

Maybe try:
>Kodiak
>4x Wolverine B in 2x Raven B with missiles
>3x Sabre in a Condor
>3x Rapier in a Condor
>4x Legionnaire bases in 2x Raven A

>Zeus+Odin in a Neptune
>2x Ares in a Neptune
>2x Phobos in a Neptune
>4x Immortal bases in 2x Triton A1

>3x Eden
>2x Haven
>Gharial
>3x Tomahawk
>3x Kukri
>4x Brave bases
>>
>>54030464
My bad, the Triton's aren't the apcs. They're actually pretty good.

But aside from looking speedier, I'm still not sure I like it more than the burly simplicity of the Leonidas hull.
>>
>>54095746
I like how both the Scourge and PHR battlecruisers make use of elements from their respective battleships.

The Scourge use the same fins as the space trilobite does.

The PHR use the same Boeing 747 wings (albeit just one), as well as the same little front wings.
Also, the same upper fins as the KS exclusive BC.

They're still not great. The launch buff helped but torpedoes themselves haven't been touched.

Minos is good despite torpedoes though, it's got nice close action and is a whole lot more likely to use its broadsides than a Herc.

BASILISK-CHAN TIME, BOYS
>>
>>54098081
I'm torn on this. On the one hand the oculus phalanxes on that thing make it ugly as sin imo. On the other hand that huge wizard hat would be amazing on a shipgirl.
>>
>>54098150
>Ugly as sin
I disagree; the overall shape is great, it's just the bulbous oculus pods that ruin it.
>>
>>54098599
Eh, I much prefer the manticore's thin front end, makes it look like a blade. The way those bits stick out the side doesn't really fit the hat. If they went more into making them look like mandibles or something it would probably be better.

The big pods are by far the worst offender though. I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't for those.
>>
>>54098150
Its a huge wizard hat on an older shipgirl that was a testbed for her younger sisters to fly safely. I think there's plenty of potential in a design based on the basilisk and while I would have preferred another ship I'll take scourge getting a design done for them. Hell, the first two shipgirls were heavy cruisers and battlecruisers. feels only right our first round maintains the theme.
>>
>>54098081

That could work for the Scipio and possibly the Atlantis, but this is the Scourge fleet we're talking about here. Flying safely means taking time away from calibrating those eyelaser batteries.

A good rule of thumb for furries is "if it's got a snout, it's out". Shaltari don't even have a nose, and they're not really based on an animal either. They're just aliens.

Sexualising those lizard people might be more furry (or scalie or whatever), but even then they don't have have much of a human torso going on so it might be a different thing. I dunno, I'm no expert, but furries tend to be pretty specific.

Man, Panthers are some fucked up shit. There's a bunch of ways they could have made an infinite range AA unit fit in and the Panther isn't any of them. I never gave that armor a look before. What the fuck is up with that helmet? Don't you want smooth curves to encourage deflection on armor like a helmet, since the metal is so thin? Or have I completely misunderstood how engineers have approached personal armor protection?
>>
>>54113036
I mean, they spent several centuries planning to fight an opponent that used bottled plasma as their primary firearm. Could be that it's built to withstand heat... though no helmet is going to save you from the direct impact of a miniature sun.
>>
>>54113036
Not sure about the front bit, but the flat top is probably for storage purposes. UCM is all about logistics, and a design that can be efficiently stacked to fit 10 more in a box means more than a very occasional avoidable death. Not like a plasma rifle or shard cannon is going to give half a fuck about your well designed helmet anyway, plasma doesn't deflect and the shard guns we've seen would rip off a chunk of your head even if they deflected.
>>
>>54113036
UCM strikes a fine balance between "cheapest and most efficient manufacturing possible" and "not making their gear too cheap because they only have a few billion soldiers to throw at the Scourge, not a few dozen billion"

The two player starter is almost nothing you'll use model-wise. The resistance starter is a solid pick.

Since you're a resistance player, Reconquest: Phase 1 is gonna be needed too, as the rules for Resistance aren't in the main rulebook.

Look into FFOR or SCOLDZAP for building lists.

FFOR has up-to-date stats for all units. Make a list with the unit you want to see included and then print preview.
Only thing you'd need the book for is the new rules like barrage, but even those are pretty easy to find out online.

Nice, though I think painting the turret (not the guns but the turret itself) white would look better, the dark metal and dark grey hull blends in too much, making the center of the ship look like a dark blob a bit, lating the turret a different color would make details stand out better.

What does the bloodthirsty rule of aged ones do?
>>

If they're occupying a building and enemy infantry shows up then they must be chosen to join the CQB fight. It's in page 34 of the rulebook where CQB is explained.

Don't use Aged Ones though, they're fucking terrible. You're paying 30 points to actively make a unit worse.

If they are garrisoned in a building when hostile infantry enter and initiate CQB, all Bloodthirsty units have to engage them and thus never get the option to retreat from the building instead.

That's the weird thing. You'd think the trade off between plasma shots and CQB would be more 1-1 value-wise.

Although that could be me over-valuing combined plasma hits.

Nah, the plasma is great. SA is situational but valuable, and the E11 shots are crazy good. It's more like Hawk overvalued having 1 extra CQB. Aged Ones still struggle to keep up with Braves or Immortals and get crushed by mid level CQB like Praetorian Snipers or Valkyries. Bloodthirsty and good fortitude aren't something you really want in a unit that can't fight for shit. The accuracy penalty is just the final nail in the coffin.

If they were cheaper and came with a dodge value maybe they'd be better, but even then Destroyers exist and Razorworms have a convenient deployment option now, so there isn't much of a point.

Was lowering Hazard Suit railgun damage really necessary? They were essentially longer ranged Warriors before with E11 and that was really useful, at E10 I'm finding them kind of underwhelming. They definitely don't seem worth giving up a turn of objective searching.

They were OP in tournaments - no one took legionnaires since they were an auto take

Has there been any mention of proper ground asset models in the future? It's jarring to have nice resin/plastic for everything else and then out comes paper tokens for your troops.

I've been thinking of making some myself out of Dropzone models on bases with a slot for a die, (using the scout units for armor due to their smaller size and more models/$) but that's hardly the cheapest method.
>>
>>54175592
Plastic ground asset tokens were a pledge option on the Kickstarter but they're presumably stuck in development hell along with the 4'x4' orbital maps and other "delayed wave" stuff.
I hope Hawk announces something about that stuff sooner rather than later, it's been a pain trying to discuss DFC (or DZC) on social media, because seeing the words "Hawk Wargames" still drives certain people into a butthurt frenzy.
>>
>>54175717
(((certain people)))
>>
>>54166113
Not really a choice there since Hazards are exotics. The price increase was entirely justified, but I'm not sure they needed the damage nerf too. They still do the thing that made them effectively replace Legionnaires (look for objectives without being crushed by rocks) but now that's all they do.

And it's not like anybody takes Legionnaires unless they really need cheap budget dudes in Ravens anyway. Flak and mortar teams are just better.

Has Dave ever mentioned licensing out the DC setting for some books? I like what he has in the rulebooks, but I want more.
>>
>>54179246
Don't think so. DZC is his baby and I'm not sure he'd have the time to proofread a whole book to make sure it fits the lore.
>>
>>54179246
Pretty much what >>54179759 said.

D*C is Dave's autismbaby, and considering how he's the primar rules-writer, loremaster, and modeler, do you really think he'd outsourcing the IP for a not!blacklibrary?

While I too would love reading a saga of some schmuck legionnaire on Eden Prime, or PHR/Shaltari subterfuge shenanigans, I feel like the system can't really afford anything more than short stories or excerpts.
>>
>>54179246
I've been debating writing a story myself. Three pronged UCM: a commander with his Phoenix, a tank crew in a Broadsword and then the last character would be the leader of the a fighter wing(probably Archangels). All their stories would intertwine during this big battle while giving different perapectives
>>
>>54180091
Might as well add (or replace) in someone up in orbit.
>>
>>54180091
Do we even know how many people fit in a Broadsword? There's only one hatch, but there's enough room for 2 people and it's a pretty huge tank.
We definitely don't know the crew numbers of a Phoenix, but I'd assume around half a dozen.
>>
>>54180636
Most UCM vehicles are single-man-crew because of their insane population-to-military-size problems. I know Sabre-size and down are, but I'm not certain above that.
>>
>>54180730
Sabre, Longbow, Wolverine, Gladius and I think Condor/Raven hull aircraft are single-man, Albatrosses are 2 man (there's a picture of the cockpit interior). Seraphim are probably 2 man since they have the twin cockpits.

Technically, the Seattle's doors aren't open; there's a closed door in the back of the bays, if you look closely.

I think it's just a rapid launch bay to quickly get squadrons out.

Why they didn't remain in a dorsal position is beyond me; I simply can't understand why Dave would suddenly go against one of the UCM's established design motifs, especially when those turrets could have easily been placed on slightly extended nacelles, rather than being on the ventral surface.
>>
>>54192358
Well yeah. That's always been the case. It's almost as cancerous as our own Indonesian finger painting forum.

Balance still needs some tweaking though. I can fucking tell what those top tourney winning lists are. The Scourge one is double Basilisk, maybe single Basilisk if you really want to shake things up. PHR spammed troopships. Shaltari is a bit more up in the air now that Diamonds aren't quite the autoinclude they used to be, but Voidgate spam is how that faction operates.

Basilisk nerf when
>>
>>54208957
desu The Scourge BC's should have the Phalanx as their central weapon, with arrays as their side weapons.
>>
>>54209031
That might help but the problem goes deeper. Akumalisk is so ridiculously well optimised for full cloak that the rule itself needs to be changed. Switching up the weapons just means instead of doing 8 average damage every turn with no consequences it'll do 7.

If only it just had a couple of furnace cannons or something instead. It wouldn't be anywhere near as op since narrow arcs mean you can't just spam weapons free every single turn like you can with oculus guns. Hawk evidently understood how to make an overpowered ability balanced with the Manticore, since it has to get close and invalidate its cloak to unleash its firepower, but they apparently chose not to do it with the other BC for some reason.
>>
How are Shaltari battlecruisers? The other faction's BCs are pretty clear on value depending on their specializations, but the Ruby is just an extra-heavy gun cruiser at a premium and the Sapphire is a multi-utility weirdo.
>>
>>54212975
Ruby is pretty solid. The double lances are an excellent single profile weapon for picking off damage ships or frigates and having a reasonably high chance of nicking them.
The disintegrator batteries are just icing on the cake; Solid firepower in any arc but the rear if you just can't get the lances lined up, and excellent weapons free, even if you can't get the lances lined up.
Nothing special about it, it's just a solid, efficient ship.

Sapphire is just weird, but useful weird. The Shaltari CAW/Bombardment is decent at both, and the gravity coils might be okay for fucking with stuff like Saint Petes and other beam heavy ships.
Personally, I'd always take a Jet or a Turquoise instead; especially the former, since it doesn't need weapons free to put out all of its non-bombardment firepower.

I'd say PHR. Broadsides require smart positioning but you're tough so fucking up is harder for your opponent to punish. Scourge need to know when to be sneaky and when to charge, and if they get it wrong they tend to eat shit.
